Title: Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide - Must have!

Wow, this one looks like a beauty!  I think this is gonna be one of those real must-haves as far as Star Wars reference books go.  Almost a coffee table type of book, it seems.  Beautiful cover too.  It sounds like it's going to be a giant compendium of all of DK's previous books: Incredible Cross-Sections, Inside the Worlds of... and Visual Dictionary, for the entire Saga.  Wonder what it's gonna cost...  I'm guessing at least $50, probably more.

From the Official Site (http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/ref/news20050620.html):

Quote
This Fall, the time is right for Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide, written by saga expert Ryder Windham. The entire Star Wars experience is explored -- from the films, expanded universe, behind-the-scenes, collecting, Star Wars fandom, and more. It's the perfect introduction for new fans and an invaluable addition to every fan's collection. Here's a preview of some of the spreads in the book, which is due out in October.

Interested?

Absolutely!  I really haven't picked up many SW books the last couple years, but this looks like a must have.  I really enjoy reading books done in this style - full of pictures to dazzle you and interesting points to keep you reading.

I may have to hit Amazon to pre-order.

That is the absolute BEST cover I have seen for one of the coffee table style star wars publications.  Very classy!

Not to mention the fantastic contents, I am so very interested.   ;D

Anyone interested in pre-ordering this book can do so at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0756614201/jedidefender-20) for $16.49US or Amazon.ca (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0756614201/jedidefender-20) for $18.39CDN.  Either way, that's a really good price based on the pictures shown above!

Strangely enough, Amazon.com lists it as being released on Sept 19, but Amazon.ca says Oct 1.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case.  $17 at Amazon and only 40 pages long.  Disappointing.

Something's definitely outta wack.  Amazon.ca (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0756614201/jedidefender-20) says that it's 144 pages.

Barnes and Noble list it with 144 pages and they are usually pretty accurate with their listings and prices...unlike amazon :-\

For $16 to $17 (after discount) this is one book I'll buy. I really enjoy the visual guides. I may pick up a second wih my educator's discount after looking at it in person as I have kids in my class who really like to look at these. Just have to make sure that they don't promote violence too much, or I'll have to stick to one.

I thumbed through this today at my local Barnes & Noble. It's a brand new book...not a compilation of the 4 visual dictionaries.   Overall the book looked quite nice.  The sample pages posted give you a good idea of what to expect.   Basically, the book cycles through all the major events in the saga.  Lots of expanded universe stuff from the comics was covered as well.  Unfortunately, most of the photos I had already seen.  And since I'm only really interested in finding cool reference photos, I didn't have much use for this book.  I'd be very tempted to buy it on sale though.

I forgot to check the page count, but 144 sounds about right.

This is out now?  Awesome!!  I'll have to swing by a book store and pick this up.  Even if I have seen most of the pictures before, I'm a book nut and have been looking forward to this one for awhile.  I'll post a better review once I have this puppy in my hands and can flip through it (which probably won't be until after we move :-\ ).

I flipped thru it at B&N today. It looks nice--but from my point of view, it's more a "starter" reference than the be-all-end-all encyclopedia it first appeared. 90% of what's in there is covered in far more detail in the Essential Guides, Technical Journals, etc. etc.

I got this for Christmas last year from the Mrs., and have just started reading through it a little more closely.  Definitely a very fun book.  I have a quick question, and it might be stupid, but for those of you more familiar with Star Wars comics.....in the "Rogues and Scoundrels" section of the book, where it discusses Han Solo among others, there is a small picture inset of Han and Chewie that looks like its from a comic.  It is discussing when Han saves/rescues Chewbacca while Solo is an Imperial cadet.  Anyways, does anyone know what comic(s) this is from?  I'm always interested in OT-based stories like that, and that one in particular might be a fun read.  I know it is sort of an obscure question, but I was just wondering if anyone knew?

That sounds really familiar.  I've got the full run of Marvel Star Wars comics from the '80s, perhaps it's from one of them.  Does the comic pic look like that style?

...edit... After looking around, it may just be issue #91:
