Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Are You a Star Wars Packrat?
« on: May 11, 2004, 11:27 AM »
Well, I took another small step towards getting rid of the "packrat" stuff in our house.  We are packing things up, preparing for the move, and it was time to get rid of some more boxes.  I didn't want to do it at first, but when I dug them out and looked at them, I asked myself why I'm actually keeping them...this was the first time I had looked at them since I put them in there.  Anyways, my Episode I, POTJ, and most of my POTF2 cardbacks are now history.  I saved things such as Force Files, Commtech Chips, and JMPs, but the rest of the stuff got ditched in the trash bin this morning.  For now, the Saga, Unleashed, and Playskool cardbacks are being saved, but I might end up getting rid of those and only keeping the upcoming OTC backs since they are so spiff-tastic.  In a way, it did feel kind of good to just pitch the stuff...a lot of room taken up for cardboard :).  When my wife told me she thought we should get rid of that stuff, I asked her "what, we don't want to move boxes of boxes?".  I was kidding, but it did make me realize how stupid that did sound :).

Wow, great house Chris....a beautiful home.  I hope that it all works out for you guys, good luck!  We're actually moving in a couple weeks as well to a new house, although ours could probably fit inside yours :P.  It is an exciting time for sure, best of luck.

Yeah, that sure was a heck of a game last night....I actually managed to stay up for all of it.  The Kings made a heck of a comeback (could Peja miss in the 4th quarter?), but luckily the Wolves were able to pull it out...even without Sam Cassell.  KG was huge again.  I agree Scott, hopefully this swings momentum Minny's way and they can win the next one and finish it out at home.  Tough series so far though...and some great games.

In the other game, nice to see the Heat get a win.  I didn't watch the entire game, but most of the second half.  Did anyone catch Dwayne Wade's dunk on Jermaine O'Neal?  Ouch....quite nice.  The Pacers will likely end up winning the series, but the Heat are the type of underdog you kind of like to root for I think.  Lakers-Spurs battle is back on tonight.

Like many of the rest of you, I have kind of been holding out for the DVD release as well.  I'm really looking forward to seeing them in that format.  I used to watch Empire almost once a month, but it has been a few months since I last did now.  Thanks for the replies so far everyone.

I didn't mean for this to be a "feeling bad" thread.  Obviously I hope no one here ever has to experience some sort of a disaster where they lose their collection, or anything else.  I have just been working on packing up the collection here for our upcoming move, and just starting thinking "what would I do if I lost all of this".  It looks like many people, like myself, wouldn't want the trouble of backtracking and picking everything up again.  I almost think I would focus only on OT, maybe as small as getting the VOTC figures, or just the OTC collection in general, along with a few ships here and there.  Right, once I started I'd probably end up getting more.  Thanks for the replies though everyone, it has been interesting to see everyone's opinions on this.

Yeah, the Lakers certainly did some crushing yesterday.  It is funny (as Matt has mentioned several times) how inconsistent this team is.  Its not like anyone thought the Spurs were going to sweep it anyways, this will be one of the best series of the entire playoffs I'm sure.  I missed most of the game as well, but from what I saw it was a total rout.  Glad to see the Wolves even the series over the weekend as well, what a comeback.  Nets also with a blowout over the 'Stons last night, and it looks like the Pacers are well on their way to the next round as well.

Wasn't online this weekend, so sorry this is a little late....but hope everything is going great with you Matt (with both your appendectomy, as well as your father-in-law).  Best wishes and God bless.

Watto's Junk Yard / How Often Do You Watch the SW Movies?
« on: May 7, 2004, 05:17 PM »
Just curious, how often do you think you actually pop in the tape, DVD, laserdisc, or whatever form of the various movies you might have.  Do you watch one more than the other?  Which one do you watch most...or do you watch them at all?  Personally, I can honestly say I don't really watch Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones all that often....although I watched AOTC a few times right after we got the DVD.  I tend to watch the OT much, much more.  I haven't watched any of them for awhile, but I think I tend to watch Empire Strikes Back the most, followed by Return of the Jedi.  I watch Star Wars (or A New Hope) once in awhile too, but not as much since it is on TV every now and then.  Anyways, how often do you watch the movies...which do you enjoy watching the most?

Other Toy Lines / Re: Muppets
« on: May 7, 2004, 03:11 PM »
Congrats Padawan....nice score.  I received my first and only Muppets figure a couple of weeks ago, the Adventure Kermit courtesy of SWShop.com.  I was fortunate enough to not have any problems with my order, and got it a week after I ordered it (I wish everyone else would have had as good of luck).  Part of me still wants to get into this line further, but due to space/budget/and now moving, I'm putting it off.  I would like to get a Rowlf figure of some sort before its all said and done, he was my favorite as a kid.  I'd like to get a regular Rowlf, but unfortunately its just with the playset the way it sounds.  I thought I had read a rumor that there might be a "Dr. Bob" Rowlf in the future, I always enjoyed those skits...so hopefully that is true.  The Sweetums pics I've seen make that figure look like a tough one to pass up too.  Anyways, again, nice score there! :)

The insurance issue is actually what first got me thinking of this too Scott.  We are in the process of moving, and talking to companies about homeowners insurance...and that's something I had just been talking about with my wife, insuring the collection.  I've thought like you too, maybe going back and doing the vintage route.  I've always been (very slowly) working towards a loose complete figure collection, with intentions of moving on to vehicles, playsets, or maybe carded figures after that.  I have a feeling I might lean towards OT-only regardless (modern or vintage)...but there would probably be a few PT figures I might want too (some of the main characters at least).  Although, if it was a start over point, it might be easier to stick to OT.  Thanks for the reply.

Watto's Junk Yard / If You Lost Your Collection....
« on: May 7, 2004, 01:33 PM »
I wasn’t sure where to put this, since it doesn’t “specifically” apply to vintage, or Saga, or OTC, but collections in general.  Hopefully this is an ok place to put it, sorry if it isn’t.  I don’t mean for this to be a negative post, just something I was thinking about.  If you ever lost your collection, due to theft, flood, fire, natural disaster, etc…..would you try to get it back?  Would you just go after a certain focus?  Would you try to pick up your favorites from your collection, maybe 10-30 figures, a couple of ships, a couple of beasts and just have one nice little display shelf?  Would you just start collecting from what figures were currently out and in the future?  Or, would you just hang it up and quit?  I guess when I was thinking of this, I was thinking mainly of Star Wars collecting…but it can apply to anything and everything you might collect.  I think honestly, if for some reason I ever lost my collection…I wouldn’t try to replace each and every bit of it.  Not that I don’t enjoy it now, I just don’t know if I would.  I’d probably get a condensed collection using one of a few options….(1) a handful of figures from each movie - favorites (2) focus on Original Trilogy collecting only, or (3) pick up “ultimate” type figures (such as upcoming VOTC figs), and main ships from the OT.  As far as other collecting, I don't have much else...mainly Marvel stuff.  With what little I have, I'd probably try to pick up what I had...or at least a Spidey, and a few X-Men.  I hope no one here ever has to go through anything like this (not just because of collection reasons), this is more just a hypothetical question and I was curious what some of you thought.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Dagobah wave

Exactly the way I've been feeling.  I've never done that before, and don't collect carded (save for a few extras here and there)...but this cardback makes it tempting.  However, budget and space should keep me in line.......it should anyways  :)
