Watto's Junk Yard / Bikini waxes.....for pre-teens?!?!
« on: October 9, 2008, 04:09 PM »
WTF?!

Waxing body hair — from the simple shaping of an eyebrow arch to the painful transformation of the bikini line — has long been a rite of passage for adult women. But now, more mothers around the U.S. are taking their tweens — kids 10 to 12 years old and some even younger — to salons to get body hair removed.

“For waxing, 12 years old is the ‘new normal,’ ” Engle said.

The International Spa Association reports that 16 percent of teens who have visited a spa have had a hair removal procedure done, but the organization has no numbers for younger children because they aren’t allowed to survey them. Several salon owners around the country told TODAYshow.com that the number of kids 12 and under coming in for waxing services has increased dramatically over the past three years.

Watto's Junk Yard / Gift cards: gift or not?
« on: December 9, 2007, 06:54 PM »
With the holiday season upon us, just thought I'd see what you thought about gift cards.  Whether it's someone's birthday, wedding, etc., do you believe in them?  Have you ever given a gift card as a gift?  Or do you believe that it's way too impersonal?  Do you enjoy receiving gift cards?  Thoughts?

Watto's Junk Yard / Facial hair and YOU: what's your preference?
« on: October 24, 2007, 06:07 PM »
So what's your preference?  Do you have any facial hair, or do you prefer the clean shaven look?  Are you able to grow any or if you can, does it grow all splotchy?  And women, you're included, too.  How often do you have to wax the 'stache?  Do you like it when a man has facial hair?

As it turns a year old, how do you feel about Revenge of the Sith?  Did it meet your expectations?  Do you feel jipped that Anakin turned to the dark side over a woman?  How does it hold up (to the OT)?

Watto's Junk Yard / What are the worst sequels?
« on: August 15, 2004, 12:06 AM »
Which sequels do you feel are inferior to their original counterparts?  I don't think many people here will agree with my choices, but here goes:

- Batman Returns (GNT might disagree)
- Jeepers Creepers 2
- Predator 2 (the Predator goes urban. lame.)
- Matrix sequels (were they really necessary?)
- Terminator sequels (were they really necessary?)
- Superman 2 (I didn't care much for the trio of villians, especially Ursa and Non)
- Spider-Man 2 (yep. I felt it was inferior to the first.  Flame away!)

And despite the fact that I despise most Disney sequels, they always end up in my collection.  Somehow my daughter always manages to convince grandma she needs them.   :-\

Watto's Junk Yard / Real Time with Bill Maher returns!
« on: July 31, 2004, 12:15 AM »
Did anyone watch "Real Time with Bill Maher" tonight?  "Real Time" had been on hiatus since March, but plans call for HBO to air 13 new episodes over the next three months.  Anyway, tonight's guest list included Michael Moore, Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., and former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell. There was also a mini one-on-one interview with Ralph Nader.  Rep. Dreier stormed out before the end of the show.  I guess MM got to him.   ;D

The guest list for future shows includes George Carlin, Michael Eric Dyson, Steve Harvey, Michelle Malkin, Graham Norton, Andrew Sullivan, Cornel West and James Woolsey.  Anyone a fan of the show (or Bill Maher)?

Chupacabra? Strange Animal Found in Elmendorf
Posted By: Walker Robinson
7/29/2004

A rancher in Elmendorf, southeast of San Antonio, found a strange creature attacking his livestock, and local animal experts say identifying it is a tough call.

Devin Macanally says he has lived on his ranch for 15 years and has never seen anything like it.

"It was eating mulberrys under a tree," he said.

It is a strange dog-looking creature with a blue color that he says began a killing spree. Devin first knew something was up when his chickens started disappearing. At one point, 35 were gone in just one day.

Macanally finally shot and killed the creature, and he was blown away at what he saw.

"First thing that came to my mind, is surely everybody's gonna think this is a chupacabra," he laughed. "But it's so odd because it has no hair."

At the nearby Deleon's Grocery and Market, customers come in to check out pictures of it. One woman says it is exactly how her grandmother described the dreaded chupacabra.

People at the San Antonio Zoo say they have not seen anything like it. Terry DeRosa with the zoo says at a feather-light 20 pounds, he thinks it might be a wild mexican dog.

"It may be one of the hairless dogs that perhaps you see in Mexico," he said.

Devin says he would like to know for sure. He says he is hoping someone can help identify it, possibly by DNA.

Sinclair Stations to Boycott 'Nightline' Tribute
Thu Apr 29, 2004 09:07 PM ET

By Steve Gorman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A major television chain, the Sinclair Broadcast Group, will bar its ABC-affiliated stations from airing a planned "Nightline" tribute to fallen U.S. troops in Iraq, saying the program is a political statement disguised as news.

ABC News plans to devote Friday's entire "Nightline" segment to the tribute, with anchor Ted Koppel reading aloud the names of hundreds of fallen American servicemen and women as their photographs are shown.

The network's intentions drew a denunciation from Sinclair, a Baltimore-based owner of 62 television stations in 39 markets reaching roughly 24 percent of U.S. television households.

Sinclair said the "Nightline" segment "appears to be motivated by a political agenda designed to undermine the efforts of the United States in Iraq."

In a statement posted on its Web site, the broadcast group accused Koppel and his show of seeking to "highlight only one aspect of the war effort and in doing so to influence public opinion against the military action in Iraq."

An ABC News spokeswoman said Sinclair's decision to preempt Friday's "Nightline" on its stations would remove the program in at least seven markets -- St. Louis, Missouri; Columbus, Ohio; Charleston, West Virginia; Pensacola, Florida; Springfield, Massachusetts and Asheville and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Sticking to its plans, ABC News issued its own statement defending the planned broadcast as "an expression of respect which simply seeks to honor those who have laid down their lives for this country."

In an interview with Internet media report Poynteronline, Koppel himself rejected the notion that he was out to make a political point.

"Just look at these people. Look at their names. And look at their ages. Consider what they've done for you. Honor them," Koppel said. "I truly believe that people will take away from this program the reflection of what they bring to it."

Sinclair's boycott drew a sharp rebuke from U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, a New York Democrat and leading congressional critic of newly relaxed media ownership regulations adopted last year by the Federal Communications Commission.

"The decision by Sinclair ... to keep this program off its stations is being made by a corporation with a political agenda without regard to the wants or needs of its viewers," Hinchey said. "This move may be providing a chilling look into the future if we allow media ownership to be consolidated into fewer and fewer hands."

The Washington-based liberal think tank the Center for American Progress cited campaign contribution reports showing Sinclair executives have donated more than $130,000 to President Bush and his political allies since 2000.

The network initially said the 30-minute telecast would be limited acknowledging only the 523 U.S. troops killed in combat since the start of the war in March 3002. But on Thursday, ABC said it would expand the program to 40 minutes to include another 200 or more Americans who died as a result of accidents, friendly fire or suicide.

ABC is a unit of the Walt Disney Co.

Are there any strange scents, smells, or odors that you are oddly attracted to?  I like the way chalk dust smells & the scent of a skunk.
