Kubricks / Re: Custom Star Wars Kubricks
« on: November 25, 2010, 10:11 PM »
Thanks guys! I'll probably start with the jedi Luke version-- i don't mind experimenting with him as there are no shortage of cheap extras floating around. My plan is to draw the face really clean in illustrator and then print it out on waterslide decal paper, then just turn the kub's head around backwards and transfer the decal to the blank side. For the lightning, I don't know if it would be easier to hand paint the bolts or make decals. I'd want it to look as clean as possible. Guess I'll just try it and see.

A good head to use is the Kane face hugger kub. If you remove the face hugger the head has a good pained expression on it.

Cool, thanks. I was looking at the chest burster Kane face as a reference. Is face hugger Kane's expression different? MAybe I could just use that and tweak it a bit. I wanted Luke's yell to be more on the whiny side, not too gritty.

Also noticed that the hair on Dagobah Luke would be perfect for these.

Had a couple of ideas for custom kubs. Not sure if I'll actually go through with buying the decal paper/paints and probably ruining my Lukes in the process, so I thought I'd post my mock ups here for fun. Happy Thanksgiving!

And yet the common figs from DX2 are flowing like wine on ebay. Seems like we should've seen a lot more of the chases by now. Actually, this is the first set since I started collecting that I've watched ebay for..Anyone know if DX2 regular sets/boxes/common singles are as prevalent on ebay as they were for previous releases?

Maybe this wave has been bought less by retailers and people planning to resell, due to its high wholesale cost?

To my great shock, I find myself in possession of 6 new chase figures via an eBay auction.

I saw that auction and wondered if  people from here were bidding on it. Nice score!

Collector's Tips / Re: What happened to the Bertby?

No prob!

And both of those options lack the "class" of the Bertby, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, the Bertby has so much more style. Dunno why Ikea stopped making it. Maybe the recall gave it a bad buzz.

Hey Morgbug, have you seen these?

"Akurum"     http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19811863

"Billy Kiaby"  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70166723

"Billy Nyckelby" http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69838049

Some kinda cool alternatives, since the Bertby has apparently been wiped out of existence. :-\

The colors on the right one are richer, but the seams on the left one look cleaner. I'll guess the right one's the original, but nice job either way. And good idea on possibly resizing them--these things are real shelf hogs. :)

What kind of glue did you use to mount them to the card stock? I've been wanting to make a custom kub diorama in photoshop/illustrator and print it out. Was thinking the ewok village nighttime scene. I'll be sure to post if I ever get around to it.  ;D

Kubricks / Re: Carded Kubricks
« on: November 3, 2010, 12:38 PM »
I have a feeling that they're not all the same size, especially in depth/bubble size. Others will know better than me.

The only carded kub I have is Droids R2; his card is 5.5 inches wide by 7.75 inches tall by about 1.75 inches deep with the bubble, if that's any help.
