RS has said a Bantha has shown up in the TRU computer & soemone over at YF said both a Rancor & Banth are coming out to TRU next year, he said a friend from Hasbro Germany said that. Any speculation? I'd buy both, never got the POTF 2 versions.
-
Depends on the price tag. Both of these were $30 bucks back in the POTF2 days. They'd have to do something really special for it to be any higher.
-
Oh **** yes. (http://cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/a077.gif)
-
For the Bantha...I've got this Army or "Tribe" of VTSC Sand People....so I'd probably snag 2 or 3...yes I know they are $45 a piece. I had the POTF2 one, but sold it in a "Purge"....now that I have these cool Sand People...I need it back and Ebay right now the cheapest is $60.
The Rancor, I might snag too...but less likely since I don't have an Army of Rancor Keepers...
-
I really hope this happens, particularly the Bantha. Even though the rumored price is $45, I never got one in the POTF2 days and I've been hoping to pick one up. I've been holding off waiting for a re-release, so hopefully we'll see this at TRU next year. I picked up some Tuskens on clearance hoping I'd have a Bantha to go with them eventually. I have a hand-me-down Rancor from my brother, so if we saw a new one it would have to be a spiffy repaint or a good price for me to pick it up most likely. I'm kind of glad to see these OT beasts possibly returning to retail though, I always felt the "beasts" were one of the cool drawing points from the OT (even in the vintage days). Big monsters :).
-
The Bantha was one of the best items from the POTF2 line. Not only is this one of the few items that should be re-released, it's long over due.

:o
never got any, want two to put my two vtsc sand people on. ;D
-
I have one and might get a second if I can get it cheap enough. It really had better come with a VTSC Tusken (or two) of course.
-
It should come with a VTSC Tusken w/ ball-joint legs. It'll probally come with the POTJ Tusken. ::)
The Rancor should come with a TSC Luke w/ re-painted hand & a bone or the keeper. It'll probally come with Final Duel Saga 1 Monkey Luke.

And that's pretty much the way it was when it first came out in 1996 or 1997 or whenever it was. The banthas would fly like hot cakes and I'd see a brick wall of rancors left on the bottom shelf of TRU.
-
I did not hear anything about the Rancor but the POTF2 one looks like a grilled sausage. I would really want a resculpt on that one to look more real. That sculpt is too 90's style.
The Bantha is great I always regretted just bying one of them. I hope its refreshed deco, that will be the deciding factor. I blows we get stuck paying the $45 but if its a VOTC tusken x2 then its a good buy.
-

Agreed. The price is high, but this is a good item. One of the best of the modern line period.
Man Toys R Us is gouging the exclusives. Of course Target is setting a new bar with their line of 13.00 figures as well....
-
I bet it'll be packed out like the Luke/Dagobah X-wing. We'll get the Bantha, a VOTC raider with ball jointed legs, and some other little things. Maybe a Tusken female/kid, or one of those "massif" dogs, or whatever they were called.
-
I have several Bantha from the great clearances of 99 and a rancor so I am set. Unless this bantha is cheap, can **** and clean after itself, I am good.
-
I got mine on clearance, too. They sat for a long while and it surpriises me that so many people missed out on them. Maybe it was a distribution thing.
-
I got mine on clearance, too. They sat for a long while and it surpriises me that so many people missed out on them. Maybe it was a distribution thing.
Plus a lot of the people who missed out were probably under 10 when they last were on the shelves. There are probably a number of items like this that would make sense to re-release. I'm not optimistic the big H will pick the right ones, but make no mistake more repacks than figures are on the way.
-
I will also be interesting to see if people who have been sitting on the POTF2 ones will start letting more into the general population.
-
I alreayd have them, but i could see myself picking up another bantha
-
I picked up the Rancor, but I never did get a Bantha.
If the Rancor is rereleased, hopefully the legs will be fixed. My Rancor has to lean on its knuckles to stay in a somewhat-standing position.
-
if you think THAT's bad, try posing the acklay. :P
WOW, my 200th post! ;D
-
The acklay is much simpler to pose than that.
That Rancor stands up as well as a AT-ST does (although small plastic tube/straws fix the vehicle right up).
-
You've had a problem with the AT-ST as well? I thought I was just inept.
I'd go for another Bantha I suppose, if the times were right (i.e. If I had the cash). The Rancor could use a touch up though.
-
At $45 there's no way I'm gonna bite on another Bantha. It's easily the coolest beast made in the line and even something of an army builder that I'd love to have more of, but that price seals that deal for me. Short of there being something fantastic packed in with it, I am out on that.
The Rancor is the same should it be coming... More so really because I've wanted a resculpt on that bad boy. The vintage mold was sturdier of course, but beyond that I miss the opening jaw and all. I'd love a really poseable Rancor with a jabber jaw like the vinty one though. That, I would drop $45-ish on.
-
I picked up a Bantha in a trade. I really like it. However, I'd be hard pressed to swallow a $45 dollar price tag unless there was significant pack-in value.
-
Yeah, I'll agree with others in here...
When this thing was first released, in a fancy window box packaging no less, it was only $30 and managed to see clearance in a few places. To re-release it nearly 10 years later at a 50% price increase is pretty lame.... unless it gets a significant pack-in treatment (a la the Dagobah X-wing). For $45, it should have at least 1-2 Tuskens and a little Tusken tent or something.
-
I would love this!!! :-* :-*
-
I never got the Bantha nor the Rancor, because I was young when They was released and couldn't afford it. Now I can probably only afford one of them, I probably buy the Bantha.
-
I've never been young :'(
But I do have two Banthas so odds are highly unlikely I'd pick this up. If, as Jeff suggested, there are some nifty pack-ins (a couple of VOTC Tusken's with suitable knee/hip joints and something else cool), I could be swayed because as JJ indicates, it can be army-builder-ish.
-
i was pretty young when i got the rancor. never did get the bantha though...
-
i am still young, and poor, but if i had money and had to choose one, it would totally be bantha 1000%, for my VTSC Tusken Raider
s (just customized a really good asharad hett!) check the customs thread for pics soon.
-
I already have both of these and can't really see myself buying them again. I would have much preferred if they had released a Krayt dragon. I would have happily bought that. I guess if they include enough bones of a dragon then maybe i would buy one again. ;)
-
id prefer if they came out with a better tauntaun
-
The Bantha I think is a definate YES
The Rancor I am not so sure
-
Hmmm....
Star Wars 3.75 Bantha with Tusken Raider (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2525497&cp=&view=all&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2254197&sr=1&origkw=star+wars+figure&kw=star+wars+figure&parentPage=search)
Like I said before, for $44.99 it better be more than just a Bantha repaint with a Tusken Raider repack. I need something new and substantial added if they are going to get me to pay 50% more than the last Bantha I bought :-\
-
EDIT: I'm an idiot.
-
Maybe it'll include a couple VTSC Tusken Raiders or a momma with runt Tusken.
-
Yeah, hopefully it will include something special to make it worth that price. I'll probably be picking it up regardless, since I missed the POTF2 version and its one of those OT "holes" I'd like to fill in my collection. I could see it just coming in a spiffy window box, similar to the Dagobah X-Wing.
-

What else can they do? Granted, $44.99 is a rip off, but the Bantha is one of the few POTF2 items that acually was perfect the first time around IMO.
-
What else can they do?
Just to be clear, I have no problem with the Bantha, I think it's a great toy/sculpt. My problem lies solely with the $45 price tag.
The Bantha w/Tusken was $30 ten years ago and I'm not seeing why it should be 50% more expensive now... sure there is a bit of inflation, but nothing else has ever been re-released exactly the same with a 50% price jump, has it?
- They dragged the AT-AT back at pretty much the same price-point.
- They dragged the Shuttle Back at pretty much the same price point (compared to KB, not FAO),
- They keep dragging the Falcon back at pretty much the same price-point.
- They keep dragging the Republic Gunship back at pretty much the same price-point.
Other stuff that was brought back with a substantial $10-$15 price increase (like AT-ST and the X-Wing) were all spiffied up with new pack-ins (Paploo/Speederbike and Retooled Luke/Dragonsnake/Swampgrass respectively).
What else can they do? Give me some extra little pack-ins to make it worth $45, that's what I'm saying. Tusken Tent, Moisture Vaporator, something.
If it turns out to be $45 for just a Bantha repaint with a Tusken Raider repack, I'm not interested. If it turns out to be $45 for a Bantha repaint with a Tusken Raider repack with some new pack-in things added, then maybe I'll be interested...
-
I say pack it in with a tent, VSTC Tusken and a dead Shmi... but I'm sure that's not going to happen.
I'll probably end up passing on this, unless it's a TPM Bantha with parts to a podracer or something beause I have several of the POTF2 version (which yes is excellent as Anton pointed out).
:P
-
I'll pick it up if I see it since I never got the original. I'm hoping for some sort of Tusken tribe to be included, at the very least a VOTC Tusken with the Saga Female/Baby Tuskens. Hopefully we'll see a pic or two at Toy Fair.
-
- They keep dragging the Republic Gunship back at pretty much the same price-point.
The TRU CW Gunship saw a 50% price increase over the previous three versions...
-
- They keep dragging the Republic Gunship back at pretty much the same price-point.
The TRU CW Gunship saw a 50% price increase over the previous three versions...
Yup, I paid $29.99 for my AOTC gunships.
-
TRU trends higher in prices anyway. The basic vehicles are $24.95 compared to $19.99 at Target or $19.96 at WM, so I'm not surprised at TRU charging a premium for an exclusive. It would have to be something totally impressive though to make me buy it.
-
I think the AOTC Gunships originally came out for $40 and it was the later releases (Clone Wars and ROTS) that chimed in at $30. I got my Gunship (AOTC) for $30 but it was on sale when I got it as there was a gross abundance of them that year... The ship skyrocketed in price for the Clone Wars (Shark's mouth) paintjob though for no apparant reason other than to make a little extra on it...
I just hope we see some price relief at some point soon... Things are really sucking considering Titaniums went up at Wal-Mart, figure prices are simply outrageous when compared to almost anything comparable in the toy aisles, and these vehicle/beast prices are really easy passes.
Unless there's something really significant in there like Jeff mentioned, this is something I'm quick to skip myself. I'd dig some Tusken camp gear and a tent shelter... $45 is something I'll be hard pressed to come out of my miserly shell for though. As it is I've seriously curtailed army building, especially non-film stuff, and many others seemingly have as well.
-
Would be nice if they included a Moisture Vaporator.
-
I gottch ya Jeff, it's all about the collectors tax. :(
-
I could see it just coming in a spiffy window box, similar to the Dagobah X-Wing.
Well, the original POTF2 release was pretty much in a spiffy window box, so I don't know how they can really improve on or claim the packaging drove up the price. :-\
I think I'm with everyone else on this one. I already have one and, as amazing a piece as it is (especially given the 9 years that have passed since it was first released), I can't see myself getting another one if it's the same item at a higher price. What realistically could they pack in with it that would make it worth the 45 bucks? The aforementioned Moisture Vaporator? Two extra vintage Tuskens in addition to the rider? A hut? Clone Trooper in Tusken Raider disguise? ;D
-
What realistically could they pack in with it that would make it worth the 45 bucks?
A'Sharad Hett.
...those bastards. ;D
:P
-
Sure, today y'all're advocating for a new pack-in to justify the price. But if we do get one, everyone will turn right around and complain that Hasbro is armtwisting them into re-buying the bantha for the new pack-in.
All I'm saying is, you can't have it both ways.
-
well I don't have the Bantha. But $45 American which would be like $50 or more Canadian ( I'm just throwing a guess) is not worth it. They better be packing in a couple of tuskens and tent. But if they did that it would be more like a BP so they will probably just give us the Bantha and 1 tusken to go with it. :-\ Hasbro will find a way to ***** us over.
-
I totally agree that the price is high, so it would be nice to see some extra pack-ins like a tent and gear. I managed to track down one of the POTF2 Banthas a couple years ago and I can't see how they could improve the Bantha itself to "justify" the price increase, so I'd love to see a couple extras to help cushion the blow to my wallet (even though it's normal to see exclusives priced higher).
-
LAME! >:(

-
Wait ... what?
Is that the actual POTF2 Bantha, or is it some squished version to fit into a $19.99 Battlepack? ???
-
From the top it looks like the box is wider.
-
Yeah, that is the $45 set and not a $20 Battle Pack. The box is much wider than the Ilum/Felucia packs boxes like Rune said. Here's another pic:
Nice to see they added in a few more Tuskens to get more for your $45... Looks like the redeco is mainly the saddle being repainted with some new curlier fur. Since they all seem to be figures I already have though, it's a pass for me.

Actually, you can have it both ways - they are two separate gripes. Stop trying to ruin our fun, spoilsport. >:(
-
I don't think the new fur is an improvement.

Movie still: http://www.starwars.com/databank/creature/bantha/img/eu_bg.jpg
The new stuff is the wrong color and is too short, making that seam around the eyes very noticeable and very odd looking.
http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/potf2/potf2dlxbanthahead.jpg
*crosses fingers that this is just a prototype and it will be tweaked a bit before production, or at least ends up looking better in person than in the photos*
Anyway, besides that I think it is a fine set. I think the Tusken choices were good ones--a female, a SA rider, and a less articulated one to just kind of stand there, plus a massiff and the kid. Not to mention the figures on their own originally retailed for upwards of $20, which essentially means you're getting the bantha for just under $25. Not a bad deal really.
--Pooping parties since 1985
-
At first I wasn't too excited, but this thing looks awesome! Never expected multiple Tuskens...
-
Hmm, looks a bit too curly, but I like it. I'll pick one up.
-
Old fur is better... but still a nice set.
:P
-
Great set if you don't have any of those. Decent value, too, I guess. I got my Bantha for $15 back in the day so I'll be passing.
-
It's not a horrible value really. The Bantha plus three figures? One Tusken with presumably articulated knees and what looks to be the VOTC cloak. The price is still steep, but at least they tucked more figures in. Since I have two I'll only be after this if it hits clearance.
-
Yeah I'm debating on this one too now that photos arrived. The Bantha got a haircut and redeco it seems... I have 3 Banthas though. Tuskens are cool but we've also all got lots of those I figure. I could handle another one but only if I've got no other expenses to consider that month as far as collecting goes.
-
It's not a bad value. Considering everything is a repack, one would think it could be sold for a lower price point like the Target BP's.
-
Nice to see that there is at least something more than the Bantha in there, which helps the price not sting quite as bad. Like I said, I missed the POTF2 version, so I'll be picking this one up if I can find it. Hopefully it looks as good as the initial one did.
-
It's not a bad value. Considering everything is a repack, one would think it could be sold for a lower price point like the Target BP's.
I agree Anthony, there's no tooling costs in this so the figures should be pretty cheap really. And it could be a lower pricepoint, but I think at least they realized they should throw something in there to help justify the price. Mommy, baby (is it in there?), daddy and the puppy offset a little. And hey, maybe that's a VOTC Tusken with knees on the Bantha. Yeah, me neither.
-
Is that supposed to be a deceased Shmi in the baggy?
-
Is that supposed to be a deceased Shmi in the baggy?
So that's what they did with all those Shmi figures that suddenly disappeared from my TRUs. Go figure.
-
It's a very cool set considering it's a box of rehashes, but not worth $45 right now. I have the figures and the Bantha, so really there's no point in buying it again...even though it looks pretty in the box.
-
(http://threads.rebelscum.com/photogallery/data//500/bantha_1_.jpg)
Yeah, I suppose it's a "good value" with the extra Tuskens. Unfortunately, the Bantha itself looks like **** with that curly hair. >:(
-
Unfortunately, the Bantha itself looks like **** with that curly hair. >:(
I'll agree it doesn't look as good as the first but the fact that the hair doesn't cover the eye and it looks a big black hole is what makes it look like ****. It really sticks out like a sore thumb.
-
Maybe it'll include a couple VTSC Tusken Raiders or a momma with runt Tusken.
Looks like I was close on the pack-in dept.
Mommy, baby (is it in there?)
Yep, you can see the little tike over momma's shoulder

-
Anyone know when this is coming out?
-
03/25/2007
-
I like it, 3 figures makes it worth it. The curly hair looks retarded though.
-
So since this is an AOTC set, is that a captured/dead Shmi in the baggy or are those supplies or something?? It sure looks like a body to me.
-
So since this is an AOTC set, is that a captured/dead Shmi in the baggy or are those supplies or something?? It sure looks like a body to me.
A little too small to be a body. It's probably womprat roadkill.
-
>:(The bantha looks like crap :P I do have the older one.I could use another, but I don't know.couldn't they come out with a Tusken hut as well :-\
-
I'm still on the fence on getting this one. I don't have a Bantha, but the question for me is where would I display it. I've got some space issues, and I can't see myself spending $45 and then putting it away. Does the BP come with a brush or something for the hair - it's all over the place :).
-
I might have bough this if they had repainted all of the Tuskens to match. As it is, they are all very different versions of tan, and it's obvious that they are from different years. My old one is fine.
-

It was on the original POTF2 toy (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/potf2/potf2dlxbanthart.jpg), so it obviously isn't Shmi. There's really no reason to assume it's a body at all.
-

My boxed Bantha has been in storage for a few years, so I'm hoping they lay it out on the AOTC packaging that there's actually a dead women hanging in the baggy ;) I'm being thoughtful/morbid
-
I was always under the impression that those bags were filled with water. But dead former slaves? That would smell worse than the banthas. ::)
-
I already have the old one, so i dont really need this one. If it goes on clearance i may pick it up just for the "body bag" ;D

Anyone know when this is coming out?
February 30th.

The only reason I would want this is for my Diorama. The bantha looks like it had a soft curl perm that went haywire and I always can use some extra Tuskens.I don't know about this ::)

Shmi did not die until Anakin showed up.
Why would she be dead, and in a bag?

maybe this is them taking shmi to their camp..in a bag...i dont know. use your imagination :P

My account got hit last night right after I pre-orderded two of these. Is this typical on a pre-order?? I've never even seen my account get hit that quick on in stock orders.

Having just seen the pictures this has gone from a must buy to won't be wasting my money.
Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.

New pics at RebelScum (http://www.rebelscum.com/tacBPbantha.asp)
I dunno, this is looking like a pass. I think I'd be better off going back to find the POTF2 bantha--this one looks like arse, to be honest. He looks like he got a perm. And I can't get over how bad the eye "seams" look.

I just saved myself $50....
and I didn't change Car Insurance !
-
That "fur" does look kind of crappy. I preordered two of these during the TRU "BOGO" sale. I never had the POTF2 one, and always hoped to pick one up, and figured this might be an easier (cheaper) way to get one (or in this case, a couple). Seeing the pics though, I might have to see how much a loose POTF2 one would run me.

Jim Ward planned this re-release.

Jim Ward cleaned himself up and is looking for a fresh start and will absolutely effin' murder you if you slander him like that one more time!

I wonder if the rancor will be ugly and new. it would rock if it was a repack with that new luke skywalker w/bone, the green nikto, oola carcass, and a new sculpt of rancor keeper.
-
:-\ I think you're expecting too much from Hasbro ::)
-
If the Rancor pack has anything in it that isn't a kitbash or a repack, and it costs less than the Bantha did - I'll eat my hat.
-
I'm hoping it's a Force Unleashed Rancor with Shaak Ti and a few other surprises... but then again I'm not holding my breath.
:P
-
In SWAN's (Star Wars Action News) podcast, Hasbro said that there are going to be 2 color versions of this Bantha set.
Hear it for yourself at the 53 minute mark.
::)
-
I guess the other one is going to be the good one?
-
::) Oh Boy!! 2 colors!! I'll try to contain my excietment. They would do better with one permed and not permed.Guess which one we would all pick :-X
-
Why would they do two colors? Am I missing something? ???
-
its just hasbro screwing with us again.
I will be tremendously happy if the bantha has a running change with the old POTF2 one, although thatd make it unneccsessary for them to have released the crappy perm one.
-
I think the Rancor will come with Oola and an Gamorrean Guard. I mean that Oola was originally on the Basic Figure list for the TAC. So maybe they threw her in there.

That is very possible. Would make sense too.

I'm pretty excited about this guy. I've never owned a bantha (except the little Galoob guy), and the pics of this one look pretty sweet so far. I'll wait to see it in person at TRU, but I'm wanting the set at this point. The VTSC Tusken is cool; I only have two. And I don't mind the female and kiddie cos I never bought those. I definitely want to see what these two color variants are before deciding, though. I'm not herd-building these things!
-
A lot of people have gotten conformation that the Bantha is en-route from TRU.com. Does this mean we should be seeing these in the store any day?
-
My two are still showing as "in stock" and I pre-ordered these over a month ago...bastards! >:(

I preordered these as well during the "BOGO" sale TRU had a little while back. It shows as "in stock" for me as well, but it still hasn't shipped. For some reason, they don't show up on my order page when I log in at TRU.com, but I got an e-mail which showed they were in stock. You never know with TRU.com I guess.
-
I just called TRU.com and they said that their shipment came in on 03/26 -BS and that they have to allow an extra day for "?" some crap, but she said that they are shipping out from Ohio this afternoon or tonight so I should have them by Friday or Monday. I almost got her to expedite the shipping, but then she noticed they were pre-sell items. She also said that I would receive a shipping notice.
Now to follow up with a Canadian company (that shall remain nameless) on another package that I'm still waiting on.....
-
According to the Email I got...mine (and Rob's) are on a UPS truck in my neighborhood just waiting to be dropped off.
But Knowing TRU it could be ANYTHING in that box. We'll see this afternoon.
-
I hate to double post....
When I got home, the box was there.
Opened it....2 of the French Poodle Banthas. But the boxes were ROUGH, the plastic view portion of the box was creased and crunched on each one.
Rob and I are both going to open them so it is not an issue, but just beware if you ordered one and have a "keep it carded" type collection.
-
Thanks for the heads up Paul. I pretty much expected shotty boxes from them anyway. :-\ Hopefully I can re-buy a nice minty one once they start hitting stores to exchange with.
-
I got a shipping notice for this this morning as well, sounds like they should be here next Monday or so. I'm a little disappointed that these apparently don't look as nice as the previous version, but I guess this was easy enough to get a hold of, and with the BOGO sale I'll get two for the price of one. Hopefully they won't look too craptastic.
-
I just got my package delivered to my desk and the box looks like it's been through a trash compactor and kicked around by a buncha kids :-\
I'm hoping the contents are at least intact, but I can't really open this at work though. It's embarrassing enough that there's a huge TRU/Babies Rus logo on the sides...
-
The funny thing is, the crushed ones that got to my house were in a PRISTINE shipping box....so good luck.
My daughter (6 years old) has taken my Bantha away from me already and has requested it be the stuffed animal that she gets to take to my parents for a sleep over tomorrow. Guess I'll order another, or snag one at the store.

That's awesome. ;D
:P

My dogs will probably try to hump my Bantha, then try to kill it ;D

Very cute, start them off young. Parents usually pass their addictions over to their children anyway. :P

From the HAsbro Q&A at POTF2 (3/30/07) (http://www.potf2.com/potj/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11536):
What will the variation be on the Bantha & Tusken Raider Battle Pack? (POTF2, 3/30/07)
The variation is a change in coloration of all of the Tuskens to a darker reddish brown hue, the idea being that it is another clan. This was actually our intended original version but due to some difficulties in the schedule we decided to split the run using original colors and the new colors.
So... nothing new on the Bantha, just repaints on the Tuskens. Sounds interesting, but I think I may still just pass on the whole thing. I guess I'll have to see the pics to see how "different" they end up being... :-\
-
It sounds interesting, it all depends on how it looks.
-
The darker hue on the Tuskens sounds okay, but you'd think that this other set would have included a non afro-puff Bantha. I mean how much "tooling" does it take to switch out the "real feel" hair on these things?
-
I don't think the color varient is going to be anough to get me to buy an opener. Nice try though.
-
I am not buying both, I will buy the red, in fact I have 2 on the way right now for me and my friend from TRU.com. I hope one of them is red because thats the one I am keep'n! I always wanted a second Bantha so this is a good compliment to the excellent POTF2 one. If the Banthas were different I might have biten on getting both but they appear the same. I hate that female tusken figure......
-
I received my Banthas this afternoon (I missed the POTF2 version). I ordered them during the BOGO sale as well, so I got two of them. It may be different for everyone, but both of mine were the "regular" versions.
-
So now the Clone Sickness has crept in here too.....
Do they have RED markings? Perhaps "Shock Troop" Tusken Raiders?
The ones I got are more traditional color.
I will want to pick up the VTSC Tusken in the more Rust Color though, just to have a "Squad Leader" for my 2 dozen Sand People...
-
Shock Troop Tuskens?
I'm so there.

RS reported that these have shown up at retail (brick and morter), but I still haven't seen any reports. ???
-
4-inches.de (http://www.4-inches.de/inhalt/news.htm) has small pics of the rust version. Looks deece, but I'll have to see better photos before I'd spring for it.
The POTJ one is the best, though his female counterpart doesn't look much different from the previous version. Also note that the VTSC has the same softgoods robes as before--which, of course, don't match the darker plastic torso. ::)
New bantha still looks like arse. :P
-
Here ya go Nate, found this on some otheR Site
(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4356/1008676zk5.jpg)
-
Gross! Looks like the Tusken took a **** on the Bantha's saddle :P
-
Hmm... different, but still a pass for me. I don't think I need an EU Geonosis Tusken tribe... :P
-
Oh crap, what if Hasbro knows about some Special Edition re-work going on where multiple tribes will be represented and they will have curly haired banthas and star bellies under their robes and we will all regret having passed on this set because it will become "officially" part of the movies.
Oh wait, I still don't care. Nevermind.
-
Mike, thanks for the pic! As I suspected, the only ones that look truly different are the POTJ one and the kid, and that's so not worth $50.
I mean, in general I'm too lazy/uncoordinated to customize, but even I could put a light paint wash over a Tusken or two. Which incidentally, I already plan on doing one of these days.
-
Ok i have officially decide to pass on the dark brown/red version. I dont really need another Bantha.
-
I'm planning to buy one of each variation to open. I don't mind the curly haired Banthas, and I think the different colored Tuskens are pretty cool. I doubt that all of Tatooines Sandpeople used the same exact colored cloth to make their clothes and stuff. I can also use more Tuskens because my Sand Troopers need something/someone to fight.
-
I hope this lands in the store before Sunday, I have a $5 off coupon itching to be used.
-
Got word that the Bantha is finally hitting retail.
-
MY local TRU had both versions out yesterday and after seeing the brown one in person plus, 30 years of seeing Tuskens dressed in the lighter garb I can officially say I'm passing on it.
-
Grabbed one just to be complete. Think I got the non-red version. Anyway, hate the price, but after having one in hand, I appreciate what they tried to do to give us something different with the POTF2 version.
-
Finally saw the "red" version of this thing. Is VOTC Tuscan cape really just a jedi robe?
-

It's definitely not a recolored Tusken robe. It's a lot thicker and not textured like the one with the Tusken.
I got the Bantha today. He's real neat. :) But wasn't the POTF one like, a lot bigger? ???
-
I believe it's the same thing, no changes save for maybe a little less fur in the face. I could be wrong.
-

You're probably right. I haven't seen a POTF one probably since they were out. I just remember it being a lot bigger... I was really surprised when I walked in and saw these little guys on the shelves. I probably just remember wrong.
Anyway, I like him a lot. I much prefer his new 'do to the old one. :)
-
Looking at mine over on a shelf there, the Sand people I have near it come to about it's eyes as far as height goes. I haven't seen the new one at all to give my opinion though, so if that's about as tall as it is compared to your sand people I'd say it's the same with just less fur on the face region. On the old ones you can't really see the face sculpt details at all. Saw some customizers give theirs a trim back in the day though to expose the nice sculpting under there.
-
Yeah, the old straight hair looks really filled-out in the pics. Maybe I just remember more overall bulk because of that.
-
I'm quite dreading seeing the two variations on this, considering I collect boxed and openers of everything. I'm really having a hard time stomaching dropping $180 on four of these things. If the lighter (normal-colored) set is any different than their prior versions, I'll have to grab an opener of it for sure. If not, I may just go boxed on the light set, and openers of the red set, and leave it at that - OCD be damned. It sounds like it'd be a good idea for me to get my old Bantha out to take a look at it for a refresher course, so I can tell if there's any differences.
Is that VTSC Tusken's cape different in both sets, and not just the red one? If so, that's gonna be a potential problem too. Ugh...
-

No. It looks to me like a perfectly normal VTSC Tusken in one set, and in the other, a VTSC with chest repainted red + a thicker Jedi type cloak. If you're looking for all manner of variations and changes, I noticed the Massif is a lot softer and gummier than the one I have from the carded Saga release. :-\
-
The upper legs/waist are more red as well on the one I got as well as the cloak and chest.
-
Pawlus did a nice write-up (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=6425&zoneid=2) on the differences with the Tuskens over at GH, with some good pix showing both versions. Nothing on the Bantha, so I'll assume that thing's identical to it's POTF2 release. I'm still hoping to just go with the beige set for my boxed version, and the redder ones for my openers. It looks like that should suffice... Hopefully.
-

Wha...? The banthas clearly have different fur from the POTF release.
-
Actually he only compares the difference in the figures between the 2 sets. The Bantha and Massif are the same in each box (hence, no variant) so that's why they weren't included in the comparo.
-
Ok, i think i want the red set now. ::)
-
Um, why did they pick...red?
-
Wasn't there a lot of rust red is the Jundland terrain of Ep II? Maybe they went with that influence?
-
I think in a Q&A they described it as a different clan... So, more or less, these are expanded universe.
Neat idea but the price has ruled out me picking up a set. On sale I'd consider it for the Bantha but the figures mean nothing to me save for the VTSC Sandie... Banthas rock, but they rock harder at $20 a pop with a neat figure.
-

Whoops! I mispoke there. Yeah, I recall seeing the differences in fur from the POTF2 release. I meant to type that both the tan and red sets have identical Banthas, which seems to indeed be the case. Good deal. It looks like I should be able to get by with just one (red) opener, and one (tan) boxed set, thank God. Now I just have to find the damned things...
-
I noticed the Massif is a lot softer and gummier than the one I have from the carded Saga release. :-\
I may have to take that back. I was just messing with my old one, and he seems about as soft as this one. Must be the heat.
-
Is anyone coming across an abundance of the red sets? I can't find any.
-

Me too. :-\
-
Is anyone coming across an abundance of the red sets? I can't find any.
Well, I can't attest to an abundance, but the first time I went looking for a bantha, the only 3 my TRU had were red. I had to drive another 10 or 15 minutes to find the regular tan I wanted. There 17 in stock, but most were way up on the shelf. The 4 or 5 I got to see were tan.
-
I actually kinda want one or two of these... 8)

I love mine. But now I want a POTF one for variety. :D
-

I've seen equal amounts so far.
How many are in a case? I ask because the first time I saw these, all I saw was 2 Tan. Next time they hit, there were 4 Red and no Tan.
-
4 in a casebox Anthony
-
Have these gone on clearance anywhere? Anyone willing to pick up a red set if they see it? ;D
-

It will be a cold day in hell before TRU puts anything on clearance. I don't think I've seen anything on clearance at a Toys'R'Us since they dumped all of their POTJ Zutton figures, years ago. I've never seen any of their exclusives clearanced, or even on sale, that I recall. Do you get clearances out your way, Daniel? Absolutely unheard of out here, which is why few people ever shop at TRU anymore (other than to nab their exclusives). That place is a ****hole.
-
Truthfully, the TRU by me has an actual clearance section. Stuff does go on clearance but it has to be sitting there for a while. Not all of them have it so perhaps you are correct in your assumption.
As for the Bantha, I have not seen one, but am so torn on it. I really just want the red clan figures and not the Bantha. I am happy with the original one i have. Terrible situation indeed. ;)

Yup, exactly how I feel.

My TRU is full of these sets at the moment and no sign that they are going to be dropping the price. They still have AT-AT's, X-Wings, and Tin Sets galore. Remembering how long it took for them to drop the price on the Falcon a few years back, I can see these sitting on the shelves until Christmas...
However, if they do clearance out I'm more than willing to get you a red one as long as I get mine first ;D
