Title: The Official Pixar Thread
Post by: Jango Fettish on May 31, 2003, 07:34 PM
I just got back from seeing "Finding Nemo". As expected, it was full of kids and parents. Not much to say otherthan I laughed a good 75% of the time and it delivered in typical amazing Pixar fashion.

I give at an A, not an A+ just because I had to deal with kids, parents, and a really sticker theatre floor.

Anyone else see this yet?

I saw this movie as well. I thought it was very good.

I like Gill (the fish with the messed up fin).

Dorry was pretty funny at times as well. I give this movie a "A".

I just got home from seeing this movie.  I took my nieces and little cousins.  They (and myself) all enjoyed the movie.  I thought, the movie was really cute.

I didn't see a thread for it here, but there's a new full trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/walle/) up for Pixar's latest (June 27), Wall-E.  As is usually the case with Pixar, it looks pretty spiffy.

A trailer for this ran in front of Jumper and I think it was the first I'd heard of it other than maybe a brief mention somewhere on IMDB or whatnot.  It looks like a fun movie, the trailer was hilarious.  I'm a huge Pixar fan and I'm sure this will continue the tradition.

I'm looking forward to this despite being less than impressed with the last two Pixar offerings.  I more or less couldn't stand Cars and found Ratatouille to be somewhat drab.  Kind of a drag considering everything else by Pixar had been a blast.

Keep up with that desire.  The rat movie was pretty bad IMO.  Looking forward to WALL-E though

My son loves Cars.  I think it was very well done from an animation standpoint.  I've only seen Ratatoullie once and thought it was too far over the heads of your average child to make much sense.  But I just watched the trailer for this movie and it looks really cool.

Did anyone go and see this over the weekend?  Thoughts, impressions?  I'm also trying to figure out if it's appropriate for my 3 and 4 year olds to go see it.  They kind of freak out from time to time when characters get left behind or are taken from family members (think Finding Nemo).  We are thinking about going this coming weekend since we don't have anything going on Saturday, but want to hear from others before we tell them that we are going...

I took my Daughter and her friend to see it yesterday.  They are both 7.

My daughter is very "in tune" to the things you are talking about (separation, sickeness. death) and I'm not sure if that is just from being a girl (sorry if that offends).  She got a little sad and wanted to grab my arm when different robots went "inactive" for whatever reason or when the Bad Guy did stuff.  But she really enjoyed it.  I wouldn't worry about taking the kids.  And it was entertaining for me too.

I can't believe people didn't like rattatulie, I was surprised to find it to be one of Pixar's best.

We took both of my girls to see Wall-E, 8 and 4. There seemed to be nothing too objectionable to either and both liked the movie very much for various reasons (as well as both of their parents.) Over all, I felt the movie was another huge Pixar winner. They just continue to make movies that are a cut above any of the family films offered since the Lion King and Little Mermaid.

We took the boys to see WALL-E today...

It was their first movie going experience and they were both totally into the film.  They've been going crazy for the commercials for weeks and a few weeks ago I picked them up each a Wall-E figure from TRU (which they brought to the theater with them  :D).

From the opening short film to the final credits, both of them were totally enthralled by the film and I thought it was great too!  Definitely another PIXAR classic!

I brought my boyos on Monday, they both were bored to tears through most of it, not sure if it was the lack of dialogue or lack of action. Afterward they both said they liked it and wanted to go again...color me confused.  Until I heard the exact same story on the radio the other day from a local radio host who also brought his two sons, they both kept saying they wanted to leave during it but afterwards said it was great.

I liked it, its not my favorite Pixar film (Toy Story is still the greatest) but it was better than most

My son is like that. If the movie isn't 100% action from start to finish he will get board and want to wander round at the snack bar instead of watch the moviet. He did this during Ironman. He constantly needed to go to the restroom and wouldn't really do anything but was all over it when Ironman started fighting.

I thought it was a pretty decent flick.  Definately better than Ratatouille.  I remember how eerily quiet it got in the theatre when WALL-E said his name (for the first time) and it was almost a packed house full of kiddies.

I was really impressed by this movie.  While it looked interesting, I didn't have high hopes after being disappointed in the last two Pixar flicks.  That, and the trailers had me worried that Wall-E himself was going to be another Number 5 from Short Circuit.   :-\  I was amazed at how captivated the movie seemed to keep everyone in the theater (kids and adults alike) despite the lack of dialogue.  I loved how the robots all had so much more personality than the humans, and there was some good commentary about pollution and technology.

Thank you Pixar for restoring my faith in your movies.  :)

Nope, sure didn't.  Part of it is the subject matter (I can't stand racing), part of it is Larry the Cable Guy and part of it is that I just didn't get into the characters that much.  I've watched it a couple of times, and while I'll admit I liked it better the second time that's not saying much because I *hated* it the first time.  It had its moments and a pretty good message, so I'm sure I'll it another shot.

My wife and I took our daughter to see Up last night.  We say the 3D version as it was at the right timeslot for us.

I have to say that I enjoyed the visuals in the movie but I didn't love the movie itself as much as I thought I would.  I heard nothing but good things about it and I thought it was just alright.  I thought the characters were good, the animation was outstanding, but something about it just didn't set right for me.  Maybe because it had so many sad overtones.  Not sure.

We got the DVD for Christmas last week and I again teared up three times.  I saw Frodo on with Conan a few weeks ago and he talked about crying at animated movies and specifically pointed out Up as being one where he balled his eyes out.   :'(

Anyone see Brave?

We went this afternoon, and it was very good.  Our daughter loved it, and has been pretending to shoot arrows throughout the house since we got home.  I wouldn't say it is something that "transcends" quite the way the Toy Story movies (and others) did, but it was still great.  It always seems to me, at least for the most part, that Pixar's stuff is just a cut above the other animated fare out there these days.  Plus, as a parent of a daughter, it is always nice to see a "girl power" movie like this too.

Brave was really good.  It is stunningly beautiful.  Strong mother-daughter themes, so I'll bet it will resonate with women and girls more than it does men and boys.

What Disney wants, Disney gets.  Nemo is the second-highest grossing Pixar film (and the highest adjusted for inflation).  It makes sense for them to produce a sequel.

Surprisingly Cars never did all that well, and it still spawned two sequels.  I'm guessing it costs a lot less to animate those, though.  And Planes was intended to be direct-to-video, until it tested really well.

I just wish they'd do a sequel to Incredibles.  That's the one I actually want!

Global box office stats for Pixar:

1    Toy Story 3    $1,063.2
2    Finding Nemo    $880.6
3    Up             $731.3
4    The Incredibles    $631.4
5    Ratatouille        $623.7
6    Cars 2        $559.9
7    Brave        $535.4
8    Monsters, Inc.    $528.8
9    WALL-E        $521.3
10    Toy Story 2    $485.0
11    Cars            $462.0
12    A Bug's Life    $363.4
13    Toy Story       $362.0

You and me both!  That was a perfect movie to set up multiple sequels, or even a TV series.  It took several years to get a Nemo sequel, so maybe we just need to be patient for an Incredibles 2.

I don't know that the long-ish break between movies is a big deal for Pixar.  There was quite a gap between Toy Story 2 and 3, as well as the Monsters movies.  My daughter was pretty psyched to hear about another Nemo movie, and we're looking forward to Monsters U this summer as well.

Also, put me on the Incredibles 2 petition.  Love that movie, and it seemed like the most ripe for a sequel of any of the Pixar franchises.

We saw this on Friday and loved it as well. Definitely up there with Pixar's best I think, at least for me. I thought the general premise was pretty clever, and liked the way they portrayed a lot of the memory/emotion stuff as well. Not sure why it would cause anyone to sob, but maybe she had some stuff going on in her life. It does have that bit of emotional punch, similar to other Pixar stuff, but nothing too extreme

+1  Saw it with the family and it was pretty good.  A little complex for younger kids I think and I got bored with the dialogue at times, but its a solid story and good ending.  The scenes in the credits were actually some of the most fun.
