Do you have Volume 1 already, Scott?  Or are you buying it tomorrow and then returning it?

Nope.

From the ad:

Kill Bill Volume 2, $15.99
Kill Bill Volume 1, $19.99

Plus, Get a DVD Kill Bill Slipsleeve
instantly, with purchase of Kill Bill Vol. 1 or 2.  Holds both DVD volumes.  Minimum 50 per store.  No rainchecks.

========================================

So no, you don't have to buy both to get the case.

They've also got a 2/$25 deal with KBV2 and Jackie Brown--which means that JB comes out to about nine bucks, if you're buying KBV2.  Great deal for a great, underrated flick (and nice DVD set, too).

Well, by all accounts, this is just the beginning in a series of Kill Bill releases, so I have no doubt that we'll see some similar releases, with elaborate packaging like that, here in the U.S. over the next couple of years.

And with the exception of the silly Bearbrick, Kubrick, gaywad stuff, those sets look pretty nifty.

By the way, here's the page for tomorrow's Best Buy deal:

Isn't there a collectors, directors, super duper, version you didn't see in theaters, etc. edition of both Kill Bills coming?  Or is that just a rumor and nothing's definitive?  I want these but not if a better version is coming.  I should probably buy them and just wait and see.

Lots of good stuff coming:

Lost Boys
Predator
Goodfellas
Shawshank Redemption
Aladdin
Harry Potter and PoA

And I'm debating if I want to upgrade my Clerks, Dazed and Confused and Hellboy.  Most likely on the Clerks and Hellboy and probably not on Dazed and Confused.

Sort of like why I haven't bought any of the Matrix movies yet, I just know there will be some box set type thing coming out soon

There's something happening with Kill Bill--nobody seems to know exactly what or when, just that something's happening.

As for the Matrix trilogy--rumor has it that a ten-disc box set (!) called The Matrix Trilogy (natch) could be in U.S. stores by this Christmas.

There is definitely a ton of great stuff coming out between now and then--I'll post my shortlist of purchases here in a few.

I read an interview with Tarantino and he said that Kill Bill would play out as one long story with another 1 hour + footage worked back in.

There's been a lot of back and forth on the "Whole Bloody Affair" edit. Right now it's basically V1 + V2 back together, minus the cliffhanger "does she know her daughter is still alive" dialog and recap at the beginning of V2, plus all the edits and color House of Blue Leaves sequences back in. There's not much else to add back in, really. Whatever is left doesn't seem critical to the plot, as there's nothing really missing from the shooting script besides some significant sequence order changes. It looks like they'll hang their SE justification on the edit giving people an "unrated" version (really just the Japanese V1) and pour on supplements and commentaries.

That Matrix set is coming, that's for sure. They've apparently requested the 1080p files of the game footage about 6 weeks ago. So Reloaded can be even more bloated and useless than it already is, with the recast Oracle in it as well, to really confuse viewers. Hurray! As this seems like the only way to get a better transfer of the first movie, I'll be buying it.  ::)

Maybe Tarantino will foresake special editions of each KB volume for a super duper deluxe edition featuring the Whole Bloody Affair.

In any case, I'm all over Best Buy tomorrow, since I don't have Jackie Brown yet, and I want that slipcase.
