Has anyone every seen a kubrick prototype before? One that's for sale (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Star-Wars-Medicom-x-Tomy-Kubrick-LUKE-SKYWALKER-YODA-IN-DAGOBAH-Prototype-/190885606604?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2c71ab34cc&_uhb=1)?
I haven't. And it just happens to be the prototype for one of the harder to come by and most sought after Star Wars kubricks around.

This has got to go for big dollars, right? Or am I making too big of a deal about this?
This is pretty unique.

Glad someone mentioned this....it looks genuine but I have no idea what a genuine prototype looks like!
-
I saw it too, but when I realized he had another 70 prototypes for sale, and many more sold, I started thinking 3D printer in my head. Probably completely wrong, but that seems a strange thing to have hundreds of for sale-
All that said, I will probably be bidding.

Slimer from the unreleased Ghostbusters set was sold on ebay.
-
God, I want that.
-
i wont be touching that. ITS GOT FAKE FAKE WRITTEN all over it. No one could possibly own and sell so many Prototypes. Just not possible. Ill pass.
-
What if its the closest any of us will get to that sought after Kubrick though?? Maybe - even if its fake - it'd be kind of fun to own?

Oh dont get me wrong. If its the only way to get one then sure. My opinion is most are going to feel its RARE and real and it will probably go for a bit. Or maybe not. But seeing how the box sets have been dropping in price dramatically, you may get that set for 120.00 or so. I got mine for that price last month.
-
That is a great price for that set.. Very good!

All this stuff is from a big trash bin from the Chinese factory. Thousands of them on ebay....
Looks more liek a mock-up to me but then again I could make this in about 20 minutes...
No provenance so resale is not going to happen but with all the big nothing coming from Medicom it's a "fun" buy.
Some crazy Swed will over pay for it I'm sure... ::)

Please elaborate on this. I'd be curious to hear any info about this thing really being from a Medicom factory.
-
i think its probably a legit test shot that was stolen from the factory or the person works at the factory and did some dumpster diving.
-
I confess I was the runner-up :-[ did anyone here win it? I'm hoping we learn more about it-
-
I won it!
I will let you know more once I get it.
-
Congrats! Be sure to post a bunch of pics. This was the first test-shot or prototype that I think any of us had seen, so i think you got it for a good price!
-
Sure will.
Hope it's not just a regular Luke/Yoda dipped in grey paint. :-\
Had a chat with the seller before and he said:
"Yes, I am very sure that this figure is a genuine prototype figure by Medicom. It is made of high quality plastic, detailed sculpture with even edge and shape while the knockoff doesn't. This Luke & Yoda Kubrick prototype is an extremely rare item and it is the only one I've ever came across!"
He also mentioned he had some other Kube prototypes, but no more SW.
-
Well I hope my opinion is wrong but wouldn't you think Medicom would have destroyed or taken better care of the prototypes at the very least? To think someone possibly dug thru the dumpster to get these sounds far fetched. Although these could have come from an employee. But i think that would be dangerous to sell for that person. Prototypes (genuine) are rarely seen on Ebay and fetch for a lot of money. Although there are lots and lots of so called prototypes on Ebay, one can assume most are fake. With technology the way it is, im sure it's quite possible to make or simply repaint over one. The common collector including myself, would have no clue if it was real or fake but throw in the word prototype and waalaa. I hope i'm wrong just think not practical for this seller to have that many and it really didnt fetch all that much. Do they only make 1 prototype? or more?
-
To the winner - please post pics. I bid on this early on, but knew I'd never end up in the running. I would love to see what you get!
-
how much did it end up going for?
-
I got it for $140

Those are some terrific comparison shots man. In your first photo you have a third Luke Dagobah - is that just a custom?

It is the first one I bought, thinking it was the real one from the box set.
Later, after reading a post about fakes and scams, I realized it had the wrong hair and lightsaber.
Then I got the real one, and now the Prototype.
