Title: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: rebo99 on July 27, 2007, 04:58 PM
Well, I was looking around and reading some updates on ComicCon San Diego.

Then I came across this Newly Mighty Muggs by Hasbro that will be out in 2008. I really think they look very cute and cool. Might be competing with kubricks???? what you think?

check them out:

No contest.
Kubricks win.
Playskool stuff is cool as well.
The Mugs are neat, but I'm not sure I'll get any.
Have to see one close up, hold it in my hands.

They are cute... this is for sure !!!

I know I will try and track down the Maul for my collection at least.

Not going to any of the rest though...

Cute, but not cute enough. With Kubricks, Galactic Heroes and TAC it would really have to be something special for me to add another line to collect.

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait. Sometimes the pictures won't help until you see it and touch it, and play with it.

I thought they were smaller, i read somewhere they were six inches.

I like Chewie and C3PO, but six inches? That's big. I guess collecting a whole series is out of the question then. Ah well... perhaps in 2008 I might change my mind.

By the way, you can see the 2nd wave (with C3PO) and more Hasbro toys here: jeditemplearchives (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/swexperience/sdcc07/july27/hasbroqa/)

Title: Re: Kubricks Vs Mighty Muggs
Post by: nitro on August 4, 2007, 12:16 AM
6 inches huh...Well, I'm out on this line before it even gets started. The thing is that I like Kubricks because they are a great space saver. I could understand if the SW Mighty Muggs were about the same size as something like Munny's...but 6 inches of plastic doesn't scream "buy me".

This line is pretty cool and I dig 'em. They look to be competing more with vinyl stuff like the Dunnys and Qees than with actual Kubricks. I'll definitely be getting Chewie and maybe a few more...

They're kind of cute but I really don't know why manufacturers keep dicking around with these obscure "morphed"/huge-headed side-lines like the Chubbies and Deformed and Medicom and bobbleheads and so on. ???

These are still available, instead of putting all 8 figures in a case and selling it that way they just split it into two assortments.

Found these silly things at one of my local WMs tonight, for $9.96 a pop.  They had Han, Chewie, and Boba, and possibly more prior to my arrival.  I passed on 'em, since the last thing in the world I need right now is to delve into another new line of crap.  But they're out there finally, if you're interested...
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Brian on January 2, 2008, 03:25 PM
I've seen those same three at Target here as well (Han, Chewie, Boba), and actually got the Han and Chewie as a Christmas gift.  They are definitely a bit different, but kind of neat at the same time.  I have to say that the packaging was kind of spiffy, with the character's "face" as the top of the box.  I'm not sure how well they will sell at mass retail though, with the size (around 6" probably) and price ($10).  Seems more like a specialty market/online store type of thing, but I guess we'll see.  I don't intend to get anymore, but I kind of like the Han and Chewie just for something "different" in the collection I guess - since I can't afford a lot of the overseas stuff.

I'll be getting the Maul at least. They truly are a niche' market. But one that is nice at a price that is pleasing. Be good to see how this goes. I wish it luck.

I saw these things today for the first time.  I gotta say, you guys are welcome to them.  I can't help but think in about six months you're going to regret it though.  As a gift, I'd probably keep one but I won't be paying for any.

Yeah, I'm not into the line Brent...  Just wanting one or two for the desk, kind of a thing.  THe line, as far as I'm concerned, isn't much better than Choppers or anything else.  It can go away and I'm content.  I think at this point I may be content with only Chewbacca...  He's freaky looking like that cake, so I'm cool with that.  Fett and Vader aren't quite as "cute" looking.

The line is not bad... it appeals to those who are into the Urban Vinyl scene... the price is way right as most vinyl pieces are $30 and more...

I personally only want a Maul... And I am done.  ;)

Picked up the Stormie a few weeks back as a gift to myself for Christmas (using my Christmas gift card). That was the only time I spotted them. I debated whether or not to open him up, since the packaging itself is nice, but finally busted him out today. Pretty kitschy and cool.

I figured I'd start a thread for the people who actually like these, since the only other thread out there related to them is for people to bitch about how they're a 'waste of money.' ::)

So far I've had trouble finding these at retail, I've only managed to get Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, See Threepio, and Mace Windu.

Anyone else out there who loves Mighty Muggs?  :)

I saw a whole mess of "Wave 2" of these this weekend at Target and Wal-Mart.  Luke, Mace, 3PO, and Obi-Wan I believe, although I didn't look really close.  However, I haven't seen much of the Wave 1 figures around, so they may be selling ok if that is any indication.
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: David on February 27, 2008, 11:15 PM
So far out of Wave 2 I've only found Mace (my favorite so far :)) and Threepio. So at this point I've got half of each wave.

As obssessed with these as I am, I'm not worried about not finding them immediately. After all, there is that huge six month drought this year for these to be shipped again and again and for me to catch up.

Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Jeff on March 10, 2008, 09:56 AM
According to the info at Toy Fair, there will be 25+ Muggs in 2008 (including SDCC exclusives), with more to come next year.  And that number is just Star Wars, not counting Indy or Marvel-themed Muggs which are also coming.

It is definitely not "two waves and done", these buggers will be around for a year at least...

I've been noticing, at least at our Target stores, these things must really be selling.  They were stocked full last week when I was there, and today there was a lone Bespin Tatooine Luke left on the shelves.  Someone must be buying these up, at least at our stores.  I do have the Han and Chewie, courtesy of a Christmas giftcard, but haven't bought any others.

Our stores too seem to go through them rather steadily.  :(  I almost hate to admit that, but if these things are funding some cool basic figure...  eh, I can live with that I guess.

I got Chewbacca and it's surprisingly cool looking on the old PC tower.  No more for me though.

Darth Maul
Han Solo
Chewie
Obi-Wan Kenobi (PT)
Mace Windu
C-3PO
Luke Skywalker
Jango Fett
Lando Calrissian
Commander Cody
Princess Leia

While out looking for Indy stuff yesterday, I saw a couple of the newest ones at TRU (Cody and Leia).  I picked up the Leia for our daughter's room.  For some reason, I still get slightly tempted by these (the OT ones in particular).  If that big pricey Falcon (and other stuff) wasn't coming later this summer, I'd probably pick some more up, but I really need to start saving for the July push.  I've got the Han and Chewie from the line, and I'm happy with those.

Also, I noticed that HTS has pretty much everything released so far, as well as the next couple waves (Leia wave and Yoda wave) up for order or preorder on their site.  Some of the stuff doesn't ship until later this summer, but I just thought I'd give the heads up for anyone interested.

The space issue is another big reason for me too - I'm really at the point now where I'm running out of room, and I'm trying to figure out what to get rid of/pack away so I can clear out room for the Falcon, the new Indy stuff, and other miscellaneous crap.

Not that I'm collecting this line, but what does Hasbro's answer mean here?

Are there any plans of releasing blank Mighty Muggs through the Hasbro site?

Answer: The Mighty Muggs team is right in line with your thinking. Look for both black and white blank versions at HasbroToyShop.com this Fall!

Is there a b/w varient for every figure they're releasing or is it just a solid white/solid black MM   ???    How utterly unexciting if it's the latter.
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: David on May 12, 2008, 10:00 PM
It sounds like they're releasing plain, all-white/black Muggs through HTS.com. That's kinda surprising that they're doing that but it's actually a pretty cool idea because that means a 'blank slate' for Mugg customization. :)

I would like to talk about variants. I have seen alot of talk and some listings of variant stormtrooper and vader. There seems to be some disagreement. As far as I know, the vader variant has two dots for eyes not four, and the stripe on his helmet is more pronounced. However, I have seen the four dot vader listed as a variant! I am not even sure there is a stormie variant. The story with these seems to be that the variant has the pronounced grey shading on his face whereas the normal one has either very light shading or none at all. Does anyone have any insight into this that constitutes more than rumor? Mebbe we can ask hasbro?

I posted this over on RS about a month ago, but have gotten zero help.  I am wanting the SDCC exclusive Mighty Muggs Commander Gree.  I am unable to attend SDCC because my job's busiest time is from June-August, plus I don't think my wife would understand why I need to fly to the west coast for a "toy show."   Anyway, if anybody is planning on attending and could pick me up one of these, I would really appreciate it.  I can pay you for the item and for shipping to Texas.  Shoot me a pm if you're able to help...

If it's a Hasbro exclusive item, I wouldn't sweat it all that much.  The trend recently has been for these things to go up for sale at HTS.com a couple of weeks after the show.  Even without attending I don't think you'll have a very hard time finding this.  I know I don't worry about anything Hasbro makes as an exclusive anymore.

My Star Wars Mighty Muggs (so far)

I would like to talk about variants. I have seen alot of talk and some listings of variant stormtrooper and vader. There seems to be some disagreement. As far as I know, the vader variant has two dots for eyes not four, and the stripe on his helmet is more pronounced. However, I have seen the four dot vader listed as a variant! I am not even sure there is a stormie variant. The story with these seems to be that the variant has the pronounced grey shading on his face whereas the normal one has either very light shading or none at all. Does anyone have any insight into this that constitutes more than rumor? Mebbe we can ask hasbro?

I'm not so sure it's actually a variant on the Vader. I think the first one had the extra set of eye dots that made it confusing to look at. So the way I see it is the 4 dots is an error and the 2 dots is the correction. Not exactly an intentional variant in my opinon.

This may be the answer to the variant question courtesy or our friends at rebelscum. (http://www.rebelscum.com/MMuggsVader.asp) According to this, punkinhead is correct, and the four dotter is the error/variant. Furthermore, no mention of a stormie variant.

The next clone wars wave looks really great. pretty hyped for dooku and ventress.

My wish list for the next wave would be

-Tusken Raider
-Old Ben Kenobi
-bossk
-ig-88

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. After reading the last post on potf2 about grabbing up 4 dotters, I ran down to where I knew there were two available and grabbed em up. Probably won't ever get a chance at a 3 dotter will I? Oh well, I was satisfied for about an hour. That's fine, as satisfaction kills my inner collector. I must always be on the hunt in order for my skills to remain so finely honed.

Here is another thought. The packaging on all of the other muggs matches the figure, do you reckon they will release any future vaders with a new box to match? That would make a fourth variation wouldn't it? I mean, it seems like the two dot version is the final design, and they are either using up all of the boxes or whatever. Does that seem like a decent theory? If I am right, then all of the ones with four dot packaging will be somewhat rare if they continue producing them. Right?

I am staring at TWENTY ONE of these things right now!!! LOL

I only have the 4-dot Vader, but from the pictures the 2-dot one looks a lot better color-wise, so I may attempt to track that one down. For now, I'm still looking for Stormtrooper, Obi-Wan, Jango, and Wave 4 so I can be caught up and able to worry about these variations.  ::)

Thanks guys for helping clear this up, I had little idea what was going on with Mugg variations up till now. :)

My wife found a Chewie for me today, so that puts me up to 3 now.  (Vader, 3PO, Chewie)  I'd be interested in Boba, Maul, and the Stormtrooper, but I haven't seen those for many moons.  Maybe I'll grab Han and Luke if I come across them again, and keep my eye out for Lando and Leia since I haven't seen wave 3 yet.  But I won't even worry about wave 4 (Yoda?  Palpatine?) at this point.

Wave 1
  Boba Fett
  Chewbacca
  Darth Maul
  Darth Vader
  Han Solo
  Stormtrooper

Wave 2
  C-3PO
  Luke Skywalker
  Mace Windu
  Obi-Wan Kenobi

Wave 3
  Commander Cody
  Jango Fett
  Lando Calrissian
  Princess Leia

Wave 4
  Emperor Palpatine
  General Grievous
  Luke Skywalker (Bespin)
  Yoda

Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: pwee05 on June 2, 2008, 09:03 AM
Yes, the Maul is selling well. But the Stormie and Vader seem to be selling for the most $ right now, driven by the rumored variant on the Stormie and verified Vader variant/design change we've discussed. The more I look at the supposed stormtrooper variant the more I think the difference in coloration is due to variances in photography making the grey look more pronounced in certain photos. The one I bought was advertised as a variant, but I am far from sure. I have another one on the way. Fingers crossed that it is different from the one that I have. Either way, I think the stormtrooper is the coolest one so far!

I'm not familiar with something that is a "PX" exclusive.  What does that mean?  Are there chain stores that get PX exclusives, or is this limited to something like conventions or something?  Can anyone share what it means?
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Jeff on June 16, 2008, 11:04 AM
"Previews" is the catalog put out by Diamond Comics Distributors (http://www.diamondcomics.com/public/).

At the moment, it is unknown whether this exclusive will be sold at a convention (like SDCC) or through the catalog like other previous exclusives (Death Star Briefing set, Republic Commandos ets, etc).  If it is sold through the catalog, then any local comic book shop and all the big on-line shops (BBTS, EE, etc) should have it...

Shadow Stormtrooper...not so much. It's not that he's not neat or anything, it's just that they have so many more characters to choose from that they could've made before him. Can I be the first to say that Hasbro's new line of Ultra-Shadow Might Muggs is a bit too far?  Actually this seems like kind of a neat idea, since it costs Hasbro no extra money it terms of development, and gives customizers a great outlet.  Not that there seems to be a shortage of C-3POs that people who were interested could paint over, but still an interesting idea.

How come we don't have a Padme?  Sure she wore about 200 outfits in the the PT, but shouldn't we have one by now?  She sure is more central of a character than Plo Koon (as awesome as he is) or Ackbar (again awesome, but not a core character) or Darth Raven.  The only other central characters I can think of that we don't have are R2-D2 (kind of hard to paint onto this shape) and Old Ben Kenobi (Alec Guiness).

I didn't order Gree, but my order showed partially shipped for 3-5 days until it shipped yesterday.  The "fully shipped" status makes me feel just a tad better especially with all of the problems I had trying to get my order in.

I think having different versions of Muggs that have already been done is a little puzzling on Hasbro's part.  I can think of a few characters it would seem should be done before no-shirt Maul and no-Mask Vader.  How about Padme, Qui-Gon, R2-D2, Wicket, Jar-Jar, old Ben Kenobi (I'd also be more interested in Wedge, Ki-Adi Mundi and Kit Fisto).

I'm thankfull I decided to stick with my OT rule only for these cause there are some nice ones there but if I got one I know i'd want more, so only Tarkin and the new Solo willbe added from those waves.
Oh and for anyone thats wanting the Ackbar one, www.casefresh.com has him for sale at the moment.
Prices are in aussie dollars but if anyone from overseas was getting them you'd take off the 10% gst from the price too.

I wasn't finding Chewie or Darth Maul anywhere, so I broke down and bought them on eBay, then I've seen them each a couple times since, last night both at KMart, KMART!  Just had to shake my head.  Still, even with shipping, the prices off ebay were only three or four bucks more than a lot of stores charge...

The next wave is supposed to show up in September, right?  Anyone in California find them yet?

DK2K4, no, I was saying I hadn't seen the first Maul in stores, so I bought it on eBay.  As for the new wave, I don't think it contains the new Maul, I think that's due in November.

Still no sign of Wave 5 in my area.

I'm really bored and I was just looking at my Mighty Muggs, thinking about what other characters I'd like to see made. Here's my 'dream year' for 2009. I'm listing seven waves of four like we had this year.

Wave 1:
Vader's Secret Apprentice
Juno Eclipse
Han Solo (Bespin)
Zuckuss

Wave 2:
Lando Calrissian in Skiff Guard Disguise
Zam Wessell
Walrusman
Saesee Tiin

Wave 3:
Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)
Padme Amidala (Ilum)
Dengar
Emperor's Royal Guard

Wave 4:
Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot)
Princess Leia in Boushh Disguise
Ahsoka Tano
Clone Trooper (Attack of the Clones)

Wave 5:
Anakin Skywalker (The Phantom Menace)
Princess Leia in Slave Outfit
Nute Gunray (The Phantom Menace)
Lobot

Wave 6:
Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope)
Aayla Secura
2-1B
Wuher

Wave 7:
Qui-Gon Jinn
Aurra Sing
Greedo
Sand People

I've got way too much time on my hands. ::)

I've said it before - but I would have been all over this line if they were half the size.  I REALLY want the Emperor, but if I pick up one - then I must collect them all.  POKEMON!!   Especially considering that Hasbro is branching out to Transformers and Joes.

oh well...Hasbro lost a few bucks on me.

If they were half the size they'd essentially be the same size as the 3 3/4" figures, right?  Is that part of the draw?  Oh in good news, I've seen Palpatine all over, and usually as a the only figure on the shelf, so if that's the only one you do buy, iFett, then you should have no trouble finding him.

I bought my first two Muggs last weekend- a Stormtrooper and Mola Ram. I initially bought Mola Ram because I loved how he looked positively insane. I bought the Stormtrooper because I thought he looked awesome.

I think I picked the wrong time to get into these, since the cool characters are pretty much all sold out everywhere, leaving scads of Palpatines everywhere.

Ya that's my point - he's the only one I ever see on the shelves so he's pretty much the only SW Mugg that I've been able to look at.

I've seen the CW wave at a local WM recently, but everywhere else seems to be packed with Palpy.  I haven't picked up many of these (Han/Chewie/Lando/Indy), but I was ordering some other stuff from HTS so I put a Hoth Han in there as well to go in my Han/Chewie collection.  I have to admit, I've been tempted to grab the other Original Trilogy ones (we bought a Leia for our daughter's room) - if they would have been smaller/cheaper I probably would have gotten more.  But, I'm supposed to be trying to cut back on things, not add more ;).

I was just looking over which ones were in stock at HTS, and I guess I didn't realize that the newer "removable mask" Vader had a full mask feature as well.  In the description it mentions that you can turn his head for "full helmet mode".  Maybe that was common knowledge, but that's kind of cool.  A good option for those who missed the earlier Vader as well I guess (I'm half tempted to order one....must resist).

I think i'm going to hold off on the head turning Vader and the Shirtless Maul, even though they kick butt, because these are such expensive suckers, for me anyway.  Plus its the one line of Star Wars my Wife really likes and actively encourages me to buy.  She doesn't get buying a character you already have though.  (You shuold have heard me try and explain buying stormies).

Now thru November 12th, Mighty Muggs are on sale at KB for $9.99, and if you spend $30, you get a $10 gift card to apply to your next purchase of $30 (at least that's what I think the promotion says).  Galactic Heroes are also $5.99.  Don't know if its worth checking, just thought I'd share this sale I saw....

I stopped into KB hoping they would have something new in conjunction with their sale on MM, but nothing  :P  Though if I needed a C3PO or Ben Kenobi, I'd be all set.  I don't know why the C3PO sits so long.  In the 3 3/4 line C3PO usually isn't all that exciting, but the MM version is really pretty neat looking, to me anyway....

Haven't seen that these would found by anyone on JD, but I saw that two faced Vader, Darth Revan, Hoth Han and Shirtless Maul this am at a Wal-Mart.  They were in a cart with some other various toys (it was during the time the section is stocked) so I'm thinking they were being restocked.  I really wanted to get them, but didn't have the money to do it, so I had to put them back.  :'(

In particular I wanted the Hoth Han and maybe the Revan.  I've got the first Maul and Vader, so those two are less exciting for me.  No sign of Tarkin or Plo Koon, and there were only those four, no where in the Star Wars section, or Marvel, or Indiana Jones section were there any other of the new MMs.

I got Hoth Han, the new Vader, Plo Koon, and Tarkin the other day. I like the new Vader a lot more than I thought I would. The helmetless head is great, and he's actually a totally different design from the other Vader I have. Plus you can remove his hand like with Bespin Luke. Yeah, I was really disappointed that they killed the Indy Muggs. You'd think they could release them as Hasbrotoyship exclusives or something, considering they were already designed. I was going through my Muggs today while I was rearranging the shelves, and I gotta say, I'm really considering parting with my PT Muggs and just keeping an OT focus. As much as I love them, these are just way too big to keep buying them all without running out of space, so something's gotta go sooner or later. :-\
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: icruise on January 10, 2009, 09:42 PM
I have to agree that I like the OT ones a lot better. I wish they would come out with some more major characters from the PT, like Qui-Gon, young Anakin/Obi-wan, etc. It might make me more enthusiastic. I can do without all of the clone variations personally (although I'll admit that I've bought them all up until now...)

The OT ones are the only ones I really have out on display at the moment, but I don't think I can get rid of the PT ones -- at least not all of them. Might think about scaling back a bit.

I did get the shirtless Maul and Darth Revan the other day at Walmart. They're both very nice. The new Maul is a lot more impressive looking than the old one I think.
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Keonobi on January 12, 2009, 09:11 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't the two most central characters not current in MM form Padme and R2?  I know they can't/won't do an R2 because of making the character fit the shape, but why no Padme?  Sure she had about 1300 costumes in the PT, but still, pic one of the iconic ones (I'm thinking the red dress she wears when she says "I won't condone a course of action that will lead us to war", or maybe the painted on white outfit from Geonosis).

I do feel your pain David, Muggs are really neat looking, but they are pretty big.  I've heard a few people comment they might've considered them if they were about half the size...

From the pics online it looked like the first commander wouldn't and they would have a caped one in the 3rd wave. I went ahead and got duke too because all the muggs are still only $8.99 at target. I figure i better pick them up now before they go back to the shelf price of $12.99

And they had Rex, C3PO, and Cody with "only at Target" stickers even though they have been released before. I compared the "new" Rex with the old one and it looked like it had very small paint variations.

Anyone seen the Ackbar and ShadowStormie lately?  The comic shops that I've been to lately don't have Mighty Muggs (they aren't high enough volume for the little shops).  Just wondering if I should order them online, or if they can be had @ a reasonable price from a brick and motor store.

General theory about modern toys:  nothing is rare.

Waiting will benefit you 99 times out of 100.  You'll still spend less when that one item goes through the roof.  If it made it to target, it'll be half its retail price on ebay within 2 years. ;)

Per EE the Wampa, Wicket, Imperial Guard and Qui-Gon wave is going to be a shared exlusive.

EDIT: Actually, what does shared exclusive even mean? ???

David, I had the same reaction, I think its like Jumbo shrimp.

I'm hoping the apparently Target only wave we've just started to see, and this wave which I guess will only be available at a few internet retailers, are the only two exclusive waves.  I'm really hoping that one whole wave isn't exclusive to Walmart, and another to TRU, etc.  If they are going to do that, they should just make the waves exclusive to eBay.... :P

After making a few phone calls I was able track this wave down at a Target I don't usually go to. Picked up Bossk (cute beyond all reason), Shocktrooper, and Snowtrooper. ;D The other two (Biggs Darklighter and Teebo) will have to wait since I'm kinda poor at the moment.

I noticed that the back of the box shows pictures of Wicket (part of that Entertainment Earth wave), Old Obi-Wan, and an awesome looking Jabba's Pig Guard. I have never heard anywhere that those two will be released. I really think this should be cleared up in the Q&A session with Hasbro, because between waves of online 'shared' exclusives and random Target exclusives showing up out of nowhere with these new pics on the back of the boxes, this line's getting a little confusing. ???

I saw a pic of that Scout mentioned earlier over at RS, it looks pretty cool.  I might have to pick that one up if possible.  It says in the ad that the other three are from the OT as well (one from each movie I believe?).  No sign of the Target exclusives around here, mainly Hoth Hans and older Emperors.  I still just have a handful (the two Hans, Chewie, and Lando), as well as a couple Marvel ones and Indy, but I have to admit that the OT ones are sort of tempting.  If they were a little cheaper, and I had the space, I would maybe pick up more of them.  Something about them is kind of cool in a way.  Since they are currently price cut at Target, I did pick up a Snake Eyes one from the Joe line.  Just like the regular figures, that version of Snake Eyes (v2) was probably the action figure I remember wanting the most as a kid - and it was such a big deal when I finally found one at a store.  Anyways, it seems like the Muggs are really expanding - even if it is via exclusives.  Around here, the Marvel ones seem to be the fastest sellers - and some of the Star Wars ones.

I saw some WWE or whatever vinyl figs at WM yesterday and they were about 1/4 the size as MM's and they were $9.99 a pop.  Couldn't beleive the price.

I saw a handful of the Target exclusive Muggs today, including the repacked Cody, the Shocktrooper, Biggs, and the Snowtrooper.  I wonder if this line will mainly continue as exclusives from now on, at least in the SW lineup?

I'm going to be seriously disappointed if that's the case.  I could see them doing a few figures as exclusives, but whole waves?  I was fine with Gree as a convention/online exclusive, Shocktrooper @ Target, maybe WM getting a 501st trooper, TRU could have someone.  But to have one wave be only at target, another only online, etc. makes it tough.  Kind of makes me wonder how heavily this line skews towards collectors and away from kids.

Um... they are already doing whole waves as exclusives.  In fact, pretty much everything that's been announced recently is an "exclusive" of some sort...

- Target Exclusive Wave
- "shared exclusive" wave 8 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=HA-807301583&number=HS78016H)
- "shared exclusive" wave 9 (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhst0QM2lBk/SYqRD0mwkeI/AAAAAAAACbY/TsV2L_V6U2s/s1600-h/ee_muggs.jpg)

Both Waves 8 and 9 are being advertised as "shared exclusives" meaning not available at the big box stores (Target, Walmart, TRU) but available on-line.

Sorry, I know that's how they are doing it.  I wasn't unaware, just a little puzzled by Hasbro's actions.  It seems, to me, that the higher volume that could be generated at the big box retail outlets would be sufficient to keep this line moving along.  For the most part they don't sit around store shelves too long (the only one that seems to sit very long is the Emp Palp.).  I'm sure the "shared exclusive" outlets will do a brisk business, but I can't see them coming close to the volume that Walmart, Target, TRU, etc. generate.

It seems weird to me to not have them in stores too. They sell really well from what I can tell in my area and making them online only means I won't ever get another one. I don't get it, but apparently someone who gets paid to make those decisions thinks it makes sense.

Are they trying to kill this line?!?! People aren't gonna want to go online and spend $50 plus shipping on their Muggs! I know I don't I'd rather not. If this keeps up, I'll probably have to quit this line too. >:(

It is annoying, but I can only assume that they have information that we aren't privvy to. Maybe the Muggs aren't doing quite as well as they appear to be. I'd certainly rather have these dumb exclusives than nothing (as happened with the Indiana Jones line).
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Brian on February 13, 2009, 09:08 AM
Yeah, its tough to say how the Muggs are doing.  Most of them (aside from the Emperor) seem to sell pretty well around here.  I do see the Hoth Han and Clone Wars ones from time to time, but much of everything else (the OT ones in particular) seem to disappear fairly quickly.  Marvel seems to be pretty popular as well, with the Iron Man ones that seem to be the ones that sit a bit.  I haven't seen the Joe or Indy ones move overly quickly though.

If the Muggs go to essentially exclusive only waves, doesn't that kind of mirror the urban-vinyl type of figures these are based on?  You know, essentially exclusive, low production volume items?

Not sure if these are exactly it or not, but since the Biker Scout is with them I'm wondering if this group (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=11551) is the EE/shared exclusive wave (it fits the one from each of the OT movies clue):

Biker Scout
Ben Kenobi
Hoth Luke Skywalker
Gamorrean Guard

Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: icruise on February 15, 2009, 09:17 PM
Well, there will be fewer places where you can get them, obviously, but more serious is the fact that once something like this becomes exclusive to a single chain, it is pretty much guaranteed that they will eventually die out.
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Brian on February 16, 2009, 09:49 AM
Yeah, it probably doesn't bode well for the line's future - but you never know I guess.  Mattel's JLU line has been "Target only" for over a year now, and seems to be doing ok.  I wonder if this is just the SW ones, or if all of them will be "TRU only".  The Marvel ones seem to sell the best of this line overall, so maybe those will continue everywhere with a new movie or two out each year.  It may just be another example of Hasbro putting out too many lines at once with SW, although I see they are finally sticking a fork in the Unleashed Battle Packs.
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs
Post by: Keonobi on February 17, 2009, 10:37 AM
Well, this will make a little bit harder for me to collect all these.  There is a TRU not too far from my house, about 30 mins, but I don't frequent it, there are 3 Targets and 4 Walmarts closer.  So Muggs going to a TRU exclusive will make it tougher.  But if they more or less keep the same volume of output, a Wave every 2-3 months, I don't think it'll make me quit the line.  Plus there's always the internet to pick up any I miss.

Disappointing, a little, but not fatal to my collecting.  Whats interesting is that Target just did an exclusive wave.  Why would they want an exclusive wave only to essentially drop the line?  Or is it that when a line goes to a single retailer exclusive like this, it is Hasbro's call, meaning TRU really wanted this as their exclusive?  Just seems odd that a volume based retailer would want an exclusive part of a line that appears to be dying....  If it is in fact dying....
Title: Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs

TRUs aren't nearly as easy to hit on a regular basis with there being so many less than Targets and WMs. And just like others have said, its hard to believe anything that goes one store exclusive can't have a super long life left.

I won't die with this line going away, but I'd rather it stay that go.

Was at Target last night and they have Muggs on sale for $9.99 until March 16th or something.  Didn't have much on the shelf in the toy section, but had a display near the registers full of the newest wave (Biggs, Snowie, Shockie, etc).  I only needed Bossk so he's the only one I picked up.

I've actually been avoiding going to Target since I broke down and bought the exclusive wave on ebay after half a dozen fruitless trips to Target. Now that I have them, I'm sure they will have dozens of the damn exclusives. Luckily, I actually paid a little less than retail if you include tax and don't include the shipping, but I did have to buy the whole wave including some ones I already had. Anybody want any of the clone commanders?

So after Padme and Jar-Jar Binks (plus R2 and Jabba which essentially can't be done in the Mighty Muggs format), what are the next characters that Hasbro-TRU should do?  I guess the best of rest (for me) would include AOTC Clone Trooper, Rebel Fleet Trooper, a Jawa, ROTJ Luke, AT-AT Driver, (would a TIE Pilot be too close to the Shadow Stormie?), and maybe Ki Adi Mundi.

Wish they could do an R2 and a Jabba though...

I'd really like a Jawa, a Tusken Raider, and Wuher. Nien Nunb and Lando in his general outfit would be cool too.

If/when we do get a Padme, I think it would be cool to get the Ilum version. It seems like a very Muggable outfit.

Is that because you're from the Desert planet too David?  I hadn't considered the Tusken, but they do appear in 3 of the 6 movies IIRC.  If they do Wuher we'll probably see Greedo too.

I hadn't seen this yet!

From the Yoda's News Q&A:

YN: A lot of people were sad to hear that the Mighty Muggs will be TRU Exclusives this fall, can you give us any more information on this? We heard from e-stores and Hasbro direct dealers that MM were a great seller. With a lot of collectors and kids not able to get to TRU in all areas will these also be sold on Hasbro's Website or TRU's site? Any chance they will come back to a broader release in 2010?

H: Despite fans of the format, Mighty Muggs seemed to appeal to a small but passionate minority of the overall Star Wars collecting audience compared to all our other Star Wars sub lines. There is no chance that Mighty Muggs, at least in the current size or format, will come back as a broader or national release. It is unknown whether TRU.com will be selling Mighty Muggs, but we'll pass on the encouragement. It will not be sold through HasbroToyShop.com.

I haven't picked up a ton of these, but did order the Scout Trooper (for me) and Wicket (for my daughter) via HTS and got those this week.  Although I couldn't really go all out with this line, I have to say it is too bad it is likely ending.  Both of these are pretty cool.  I think it may have been better at a smaller scale though.  I know a lot of the reason I didn't get a whole lot of them was due to the display space they take up, and the $10 pricetag.  Really liking the Scout Trooper though, but I've always liked that design.
