I was going to say... didn't they just release this same pack?  But man... I will have to go for the R2 and Luke.  Hopefully they don't end up using a different R2.

Yes, that's the first thing I noticed, the hologram of Leia is bent. I want it just for that and Luke's head.  :-\

I'm in for this set. MOstly for the holo Leia, but it will be a nice set to have altogether. I wonder if there will be a cardboard diorama with this packaging as well.

At first glance, I was like "didn't we just get these?" - but this really is an amazing set.  The Luke alone probably would have sold me, but the fact that they are finally using that body for R2 is the topper.  Toss in a nice accessory along with nice figures of both 3PO and Obi-Wan, it makes for a nice set.  I always like seeing more OT-based battle packs too.  Hopefully we'll see a re-release of that Luke on a single card as well, as it looks like the best version of Tatooine Luke yet.

I really want this for the Luke!  Why could they not just release that carded.  Although I am sure they will at some point.  Anyway nice!

So what could possibly be the ultimate ANH Luke is going to be released first in a battle pack? Really? This should be in the TLC ANH Wave AND Saga Legends. I know many of us our still burnt out on Tatooine Lukes from the 90's, but I so want this figure!

If they keep this headsculpt exactly how it looks, this could be the GREATEST Luke we've ever gotten. I seriously wouldn't mind 30 rereleases of it like we've gotten of the crappy POTF2 ones. R2 is awesome too, and I guess I wouldn't mind having another Obi-Wan. Great set, but I'd rather see the Luke as a single carded figure.

Count me in for this set. For a set that is mostly just repaints and one newish figure I'm actually very excited about it. I may even buy a couple to fill out a few dioramas/displays. :)

in for 1 of these, never would've thought we'd see this and actually want to buy it. The only thing I'd change would be to add in the removable belt from the VOTC version of Luke.

A surprise (amazing how many surprises there are so far...  Makes me think to rumors, and how many things have been missed) set for sure, and I'm down for one.  Love the Holo Leia, love the Luke (finally!), love R2...  3PO and Ben look good.  I'm excited for this.

The Luke is the highlight to me.  A GOOD Tatooine Luke.  Finally.  I mean, how many have been out now?  This one finally seems to make this figure "done".

Awesome , finally a Luke, we all can call good. It looks to me that they took TAC Luke Torso and simply add VOTC Luke's Legs with a new head. I am surprise that they didn't put him on the card ?  ???

I have a feeling that the 2010 ANH wave will have him with the Falcon headset.
Title: Re: Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack
Post by: Darby on July 24, 2009, 09:38 AM
I actually think Luke is mostly new.  The arms probably not.  The torso seems a little more detailed and different in proportion than the ones we've gotten recently.

I never considered buying this battle pack the first time around.  This time when I see it on the shelf, I'll take a peak at it.  If you ask me, the Luke is still a poor likeness.  The Hologram is nice.  But that's not going to get me to fork over $25 or 30.

Definitely like this set. Although Battle Packs are pretty expensive these days in some stores ($27 plus tax at my local Target), this set is definitely worth it. Just look at that new SA Farmboy Luke!

An addition to everry OT collector wishlist. :)

I'm excited for a Farmboy Luke with all the articulation of a SA mainline character that you'd think we would get single-carded.  The holograph is secondary in the set...

My only complaints are 3PO should, I think, be "dirty" and have a restraining bolt, no?  R2 looks sharp.

Ben is Ben.  Some updates to the paint so his "patches" on his outfit stood out some would be nice but not necessary.

Yeah it appeared from the SDCC pics those paint ops were there but now they are gone. I was looking forward to a dirty C-3P0 with the restraining bolt updated finally. Hopefully these details will be back in the production sets. It's a long shot but like some figures have shown the press pics are sometimes outdated.

This could be a good Q&A question.

I'm just wondering - the R2-D2 in this set is mostly described as using a superior body mold - how? Does anyone care to elaborate?  ::)
Title: Re: Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack
Post by: Jayson on August 18, 2009, 09:11 PM
It's the R4-G9 mold. R2 hasn't been released in plain movie coloration with this mold yet. The TAC version (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tac/04.html) used the R4-G9 body but had piss stains/scorch marks all over it and the Marvel comic pack version (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tac/comicpacks/06.html) didn't have the proper "movie" deco either.

The biggest gripe most people have with the Early Bird one is the shiny dome.  R2 really has a brushed metal finished dome and not the vac metal they keep pumping out.  Plus the cool way the 3rd leg retracts is enough for me.  I can't wait to get this set because it is the bees knees.  Although the Luke is starting to look a lot wonky
Title: Re: Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack
Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on August 18, 2009, 10:45 PM
Right now the Luke and Leia part are the only things I find really worth it from the set. I really hope the C-3P0 gets that dirty job from SDCC. According to the official write up this set is geared towards collectors. I do not see how a straight repack of 3P0 fits that bill. No matter what I am buying 3 of these sets for the Luke, I want to update my Ceremonial & X-Wing Lukes with that head.

Wowee wow wow!  I really wish I could buy about 8 of these bad boys...the Luke headsculpt a true work of art...and I don't think these pictures actually do it justice

Of course the first thing I did was pop ole Lukes head off and tried it on Ceremonial Luke and Stormtrooper Luke.  The best fit for Stormtrooper Luke is a Spacetrooper...

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/4639_a065ac7e923ca51a6d2836658fff02e2a8bb40c2)(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/4637_3c0782f5c98da9c3188dda98926ecdedf0cea838)(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/4635_2a75adbd96821f146d802f92d859ed7a14906d21)

R2 uses the R4 mold as promised and has the brushed dome...it is about time

Obi-Wan is the same as the Evolutions/EpIV Wave mold with a little more wash on his inner cloak

C-3PO is the Ewok God version with smudges of black stuff all over...I supposed that is scene specific, it has been a while since I actually paid that much attention

And BTW...it is about frickin TIME that Hasbro put their A game on to a Mark Hammil head.  I seriously have a box full of crap heads that are absolutely atrocious.  I think the last few have been really great but this one takes the absolute cake.  Which brings up a good Q&A question...why do they keep retooling and making new heads when they have really good likenesses already?

Damnit Scott now you make me want to buy a bunch of these now.  I was just going to bite the bullet and pay $25 for the Luke and be happy with one.   I hope they re-release Luke via single pack.  I am not to sure they will.
Title: Re: Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack
Post by: Brian on December 4, 2009, 11:55 AM
I received one of these via EE this week as well, and after opening it up, I wished I had ordered at least one more.  Like Scott mentioned, the Luke is really nicely done and it is good to finally have that R2 that we've been asking for.  I hope both get single carded releases in the future, because I'd like more.  Obi-Wan and 3PO aren't changed much, but at least they are using the "best" versions of each character for this pack.  I like seeing the OT battle packs, and don't even mind repacked figures if they use really well done ones.  I'd really like to see the VOTC Han and Leia get re-released somehow, and if they had to put them in a battle pack with some retooled/tweaked figures, that would be ok too.

Agreed, I'd really like to get a few more of the Luke (and R2 for that matter), but really should wait for if/when they single card them (hopefully soon).  I still wish I would have ordered an extra one of these when I placed the order at EE, as they now seem to be sold out.  Also, they seem to be the only online retailer I've seen that has these for order at all (and I don't believe there have been any retailer sightings either) - I wonder if these are somewhat limited, or if it is just taking a little bit for some reason for other e-tailers/retailers to get these.  I hope they make it out there in good numbers, I'd like to pick up at least one more.  Good stuff.

I got one over the weekend at Toys R Us...  Has anyone seen this at retail yet in the wild?

I think my opinions are largely like Scott's on it.  I think 3PO's a disappointment though.  He looks like he has blaster burns and I'd love to see Hasbro figure a way out to make his right foot gold, as it should be, rather than just silver like the rest of his lower leg.

Luke looks fantastic, Ben's a nice extra Ben, and R2's as good an R2-D2 as anyone can ever expect I believe.

I got mine at TRU and it wasn't in their computer system.  They rang me up then at $21 something which I'm not sure what TRU's battlepack prices are but I felt pleased with that price considering what they cost elsewhere anymore.  It was also, oddly, the only battlepack on the shelves that I noticed.

I got to open this tonight...  Some expanded thoughts now...

-C-3PO really kinda blows.  I don't know what Hasbro was going for with the large flat black marks, but they look like severe burning to him.  Dirty I get...  He's dirty at this point.  The Purchase of the Droids 3-pack 3PO was really dirty, and that would've looked 10x better on this figure, and besides the restraining bolt would've doubled well for that figure.  Color me disappointed in this 3PO though, he really doesn't look too swift.

-R2-D2...  Very cool.  A little rubbery at the legs I thought, but very cool.  I'd buy this figure probably 3 or 4 more times as just companions to X-Wing and Snowspeeder Luke, and one to go with Bespin Luke as well.  I'd take him grimed up a bit as a Dagobah R2 as well.  One sort of with a black wash for a just generally dirty looking R2 would be neat too.  Sort of "battle worn" but not blown apart.  Hasbro would do well to give us more R2-D2 with this figure as a base.

-Obi-Wan...  He's cool.  Nothing too flashy besides his darker pants.  He's cool.

-Luke...  I like him, but I do have one gripe.  He's the ultimate ANH Luke in just about any way imaginable except 2 flaws.  First, his skirt piece is pretty rigid which limits poseability of otherwise super-duper poseable legs.  But the second thing really stands out more.  Luke's sporting a fairly white shirt throughout, but this figure's sporting a pretty dingey variation of what we're used to.  So while I love the figure still, and I'm retiring a number of ANH Lukes now, this isn't perfect.  A white version in Legends?  You bet I'm buying probably 3 or 4 of those as well to custom up a bit.

I could also add that it'd be nice to have a way to hook his father's saber on his belt too.  It didn't happen, but eh...  That's why I have tiny drill bits I guess.

Overall, a nice set.  Better than expected in a way...  Not without flaw, but great stuff where it needed to be for the most part.

Oh, and the table is cool too...  The Leia's little lines etched into her make for that cool wavy effect of the holographs, similar to the holo of Obi-Wan that Bail Organa came with.  Kudos to Hasbro for that neat little effect.  It'd be neat to see it employed on holographic versions of full-size figures, but that won't be happening ever, methinks.

I haven't got mine from Jeff yet, but from the photos I've seen I largely agree with this. I think a repack of the Purchase of the Droids (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/potf2/cinemascenes/03.html) or Flashback (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/potf2/flashback/c3po/lf.html) C-3PO might have been a better choice in terms of accuracy. But I'll reserve final judgement 'til I have this in hand.

I scored this set this morning.  But I very nearly left it in the store because of the black on C-3PO.  But then I looked at the back of the box, and the photo of the figures showed those marks.

The only reason this set has any kind of appeal is for the nice sculpt of Tatooine Luke.  Hardly worth the $25 price point.
Title: Re: Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack
Post by: Jesse James on December 14, 2009, 04:10 PM
The R2's an equal figure IMO, and I could use the other Obi-Wan and the holo Leia on the table's a bonus...  I wouldn't say it's only good for Luke then FG, but he's the highlight.  He'd have made a fantastic carded figure I think.

3PO's the only throw-away and every battlepack has at least one anymore it seems.

Well, just to defend 3PO, the one I got doesn't have too much of the black stuff and he can be cleaned up with a little effort.  It's a nice 3PO sculpt at least, with all the joints and everything.  Could have been worse I guess is what I'm saying (looking at you, VOTC 3PO  >:().

The C-3PO has the oil marks from the oil bath scene? COOL! :D Even more reason for me to pick up this set - I originally didn't notice the black paint.

The R2's an equal figure IMO

I'm sure he is, but I'm pretty good in the R2 department.  Know what I mean?  I don't have any need whatsoever for another one, especially given the fact that his appearance doesn't really change throughout the saga.

Quote

Obi-Wan is cool if you don't already have him.  Personally, I have no need for another.

Quote
I wouldn't say it's only good for Luke then FG, but he's the highlight.

Given that I have no need for another 3PO (which is craptacular), R2, or Obi-Wan, for me, the only appeal would be Luke.  Besides, aren't we all stuffed to the gills with 3POs & R2s?  Does anyone really need another?

He'd have made a fantastic carded figure I think.

I agree, so hopefully, Hasbro will release him again by himself.  At that point, I'll bite.

Send me you info I will give you the Leia from the set.

I bought four of this set, I love it. I needed some extra R2's, Obi's and 3Pos for my displays. I want to get one more to make a jacketless Yavin Luke. The C-3Po is great for a Sandcrawler scene as he is cruddy with the modern sculpt. The r2 is sweet, the Luke is awesome and you get a great Obi figure that you can keep in the Falcon or hang out in the Cantina. I really do not get some people complaining about this set. It sounds like a case of being cheap. As far as I can tell this is the last of the Battlepacks without straight repacks with no new details at all.

I would be happy if future battle packs can offer something similar with some newish parts & paint. I hope to see some like this at TF but I am not holding out much hope.

That's good news Anton.  I've seen this only once at TRU and I'd like another one I think, so it's good to hear it's turning up in better numbers.

I haven't seen this set around (:() - only the Endor and gelagrub sets. I really want to pick this set up, mostly since I don't have the Obi-Wan or Tatooine Luke.

Ugh, these things are everywhere around here...you can't swing a dead cat without hitting TLC swag languishing on the shelves.

I've seen two in the wild... one at a Slackers video game store (bought it for $24.99) and one at Target.

This set is decent in the sense that you get the best ANH Luke yet, and the Obi Wan is fine... the accessory of the new Leia really is cool too.  R2 is... well, another R2.

But, I think they missed the boat with C-3PO.  If they had used the B-A-D protocol droid sculpt for 3-PO, this set would have been spectacular.

I'd like to get a holo Leia, but that's about it.

Is it true that this BP is packed one per case in one revision case?  :(

Oh. No. Finding this thing will be hard.

Maybe not as hard as you might think.  I've seen & heard reports of these hitting multiple nearby Target stores, so that's a good place to start.

The Tatooine and Vader ones? They are supposed to hit e-tailers this month.

There were a bunch of these packs at a TRU in my are the past 2 weeks along with Gelagrub/Clonetrooper and Endor pack.  They really have not moved that much.  I had to get this pack for Luke.  The R2 repaint of (can't remember that astromech droid's number from a few year's back?) is pretty nice.  I even like the C-3PO and the different posed Leia hologram.  Kenobi is a cool figure that I can pose in another scene.

Yeah, I guess in the end I bought 3 figures I already have and the table.  Hell I have bought the same figures in one way or another for almost 30 years nows.  So for me it was still worth it.  I am happy with all the figures at least.

I finally opened mine. Probably the last really nice pack, almost worth it's value, we're ever going to get.
