Title: Forum Upgrade
Post by: Chris on August 12, 2004, 05:57 PM
The forums have been upgraded to the latest and greatest software version. This is a huge coding change and many, many new features are now available. Go ahead and look around for yourself, let me know what you think, and tell me if you have any problems.

Looking good so far....

This forum style looks really familiar. Are you using Proboards? vBulletin?

This is Simple Machines. The creators of our previous software, YaBB, discontinued that line of forums and have been working for over a year on this new software. Same people, different name.

Love the Stats! (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?action=stats)

Top 10 Topics (by Views)

(1) Top 5 Hotties  13069
(2) Huge Spoiler!  11592
(3) Return of the Kubricks!  7373

"Top 5 Hotties" has almost as many views as the Saga, Other Toy Lines, and Other Collectibles forums do posts--combined.

Male to Female Ratio: 15.3:1

That would explain it. . .   :D

Looks like a lot more options available to us.

Noticed the "delete yourself" option was still there, though, which I'm sure has two or three members breathing a sigh of relief. . .

I'm still messing with settings. You can no longer delete yourself though.  ;)

Uh...  Is "****" now considered a bad word?   :P

I see over in the **** forum that it's been replaced with "****" everywhere...

EDIT:  Guess so.  That word would be "****", less one "e" there...

Damn, can't even do that.  Let's try this:  F E E D B A C K

Wha'?  I'm talking about the fact that the word "f e e d b a c k" is no longer allowed on the boards here, so take it outta the profanity filter fool!   :-*

Hope you enjoyed that while it lasted, 'cause that's not supposed to be a "public" page.  Sorry!   :-\

Hey, bring back the Stats page!

I dig the stats and stuff, and it's not like there's anything compromised by them being made public.

I'd just prefer to keep those private as some may see them as being intrusive, etc. It's a little issue I have, and would prefer to keep them private.

Woah.  I dig the new Private Messages setup now.  Much more manageable.  Hell, I might even delete a few of my old ones now that I have that option next to each individual one!   8)

Also loads about 200x faster for me now that they (1,000+) don't all get flushed out onto one page.

Lovin' it!

OK, well now that looks silly, 'cause before it was just a bunch of **** everywhere!  All fixed now.  Cool.

Yes, and I should mention that members have a 100 PM limit now to keep server space within reason.

Well, okay, they're your boards, so you can do what you want.  But just remember:  Even these guys have a public stats page:

Virex, are you already over that quota?  'Cause I just sent you a PM and was wondering if you got it, or not...  LMK.

Yes, and I should mention that members have a 100 PM limit now to keep server space within reason.

And another thing about the PMs:  You better click the little checkbox when you're sending someone a PM if you want to keep a copy of it!  It no longer saves you a copy automatically anymore...   :-\

So for those of you over 100 PMs already, it looks like you need to do some spring cleaning in your personal messages area, or you won't be hearing from anyone anymore!   ;)

You can set the "outbox" feature in your profile settings.

How's this? I have enabled users to choose if they want to use the censor or not. You can turn it on and off in your profile. We will see how that works.

i think that idea will work great chris. this way people who want to see people curse like truck drivers can, and those who don't won't have to.

brilliant!

This is truly the greatest day in the history of Star Wars-related web-surfing.

Chris Berry, I want to have your baby.  Just let me know.

(And for the record, I'll be cursing more like a sailor, and less like a truck driver.)

Don't think I've been by since the upgrade, but just wanted to mention it looks nice.  Not too different, but slightly modified and upgraded with a couple new bells and whistles.  Like they say, If it ain't broke, don't fix it!  These forums were far from broke before, so I'm glad the changes weren't drastic, or anything weird like Rebelscum did earlier this year.  I like the revised section titles and descriptions more too!  Thanks for the improvements guys.   8)
