Kubricks / Re: Attack of the Kubricks!
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:42 PM »
I'm not normally into Kubricks, but I have to agree, a Red Guard, or even a Blue one would be beyond Kickass. Are they only available by internet or mail, or can you get them retail too? I know TRU had something similar for LOTR...or were those minimates?

<--hates being a NOOB with anything:(

That looks great so far ennis. Don't worry about the arms, they look fine...could use a little more articulation, but they didn't do articulated female arms in uniform...Veers with a Padme head and sculpey boobs would just seem a little....Off somehow :P

78
They both look really great...and that's not a boob joke...seriously, it wasn't :P

Oh man...i would SO love to try this at 12 inch scale...but i don't have the sewing skills or the knowhow to change the hair.

And in any event, Daala in her flightsuit.....(droools, despite what having read the books she's in. What can i say? i'm a sucker for redheads, especially loopy ones :D )

i'm surprised no one's tried to make a 3 3/4 scale jedi dooku, especially since the ROTS and EVO dookus have balljointed heads...just a quick headswap with a pilot obiwan or Agen Kolar, and a Dr Doom cape, and Voila! That's more or less what i did, but on a 12 inch scale. I may just try that anyway LOL

Actually people have made jedi dookus before in the 3 3/4 scale.

I like your customs!  ;D
Does the troopers helmet fit?
It is a very nice clone, awesome customs!  ;D

Thanks for the compliments Clone Commander. I haven't tried hollowing out the clone helmet, but i did some eyeball measuring, and it looks like it would fit almost perfectly over the Hit Team Don head that i used for the Clone. It wouldn't fit on Obiwan's head tho (at least not without a haircut) Now if only i could find an old obiwan (ANH) lightsaber hilt that i could paint for my jedi luke. I could have just bought a jedi luke off ebay, but where's the fun in that? :P

Also I've got a question for the people that use dragon bodies regularly for 12 inch figures. Do they make them in different sizes to represent different heights? I want to swap the bodies, but don't want luke to be the same height as Dooku, who's the same height as the Obiwan in Clone armor. The original Dooku body i'm using was almost perfect, except he was too broad across the shoulders. It's just a minor complaint on a kitbash, but to me it ruins the look of the figure. (perfectionist, Moi!?! :P )

Now since I haven't updated for awhile, I figured it was time for a lil update. I finished both of these over a month ago, but because of one thing or another, i never got around to taking pictures. WELL NO LONGER! I finally got off my lazy duff and took some pix.

First off: I finalized and finished my idea of what Count Dooku looked like before he left the Jedi Order. Thanks to my buddy Brent who confirmed that Dooku did INDEED have a green saber.

The "recipe"
Saga Count Dooku for the head, saber, cape and belt
Saga Obiwan for most of the outfit
Dragon body and boots
scrap cloth for the brown undertunic
Green plastic drink stir stick for the saber blade

other pics are here: http://photobucket.com/albums/b174/Richardthebloody/12in%20Jedi%20Dooku/

And my personal favorite, though i only made it for myself: Jedi Luke. I know it's been done by hasbro, sideshow, and of course Medicom, but hey, i was bored, and i've been wanting to do this since i got a loose dooku last fall (thanks Chris...you rawk man! :) )  I had to replace the inner neck post with a wooden pull bead from a ceiling fan. It doesn't stay on that well, but it's nothing a little glue won't fix, and besides, it's not that noticeable on account of the collar of dooku's uniform being so high. One downside to using the POTF Hoth Luke head...it has no neck of it's own like Dooku and most figures from after Episode I. I tried the neck post from Dooku, but it still sat low and didn't look right on account of the collar height. (sighs)

Anyway, onto the pix!

Your hate has made you powerful...

The "recipe"
POTF Hoth Luke head, lightsaber and gunbelt
Saga Count Dooku for the Body, boots and uniform top
ROTS Bariss Offee for the pants (because Dooku's pants were too poofy around the thighs to look right, unless i used a different body)
Green plastic drink stir stick for the saber blade

I was kind of agonizing over a few things, particularly do i use the spare body from the AOTC obiwan, which was narrower across the shoulders than the Dooku body, but which lacked ball jointed knees, as well as articulated fingers, in addition to being taller. I was trying to make as accurate a luke as i could. I didn't trim Dooku's uniform at all either, i just folded the "skirt" of the tunic up under itself and tucked it down the pants. Since the entire outfit is black, you can't really tell, even if you look at it in person. The belt covers it nicely as well. At the time i was hoping to use one of my own lightsabers for this figure, but it just didn't work out. The hilt i made was too narrow for the hands to hold, so i just used the Anakin hilt the figure came with. I had a little trouble with the belt as well, because it was originally brown, but thanks to a black sharpie, you can't even tell the difference! LOL Eventually i'll probably cut off the holster and set it aside, but for now i'm going to leave it. As i said, i didn't do it for any competition, just for my own amusement (plus i thought it would look really b*tchin :) )

So, enjoy. Sorry i took so long to get pictures up, but everything's been crazy around here of late. (folks i chat with on MSN know why)

That's what you could use the balloons for! I would imagine you'd have to get those long thin ones they use for balloon animals (or even a condom if the paint wouldn't adhere to the latex properly LOL) But i'm still not sure how well the paint would adhere to the latex. If i was able to get my hands on the 12 inch Aurra Sing, I'd just head swap her with Bariss Offee's Body. Paint the hands and the body white, and voila! Of course, I wanted to do the same thing to make her into Ventress, but at this point it's all theory.

Who would win in a wrestling match? Slave Leia or Aayla?  :o

I dunno, but i'd LOVE to watch...just as long as Carrie Fisher doesn't try wearing the bikini now...<shudder>
Don't even go there buddy.

Hey, i can hope they decide to do an Aurra Sing/Aayla Secura Catfight at some point in one of the new TV series, can't I? I wouldn't complain if they used the original actresses either :D

Here it is with the gauze. It definately has texture but I think too much blue is showing thru. That is basically an olive green with a dry brush of black. I think I need to dry brush olive green again. The shoes also need to be painted and the belt needs to be fashioned.

Man that looks incredible! At first glance, even at this stage it looks perfect. I can't wait to see her finished. :o

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Favorite/Worst 12" Figure
« on: March 16, 2006, 11:17 PM »
For me, Dooku is #1 for the best, out of the 12 inch that i have, opened and MOC. Best Likeness, Best Articulation (more or less the #41 clone of 12 inch bodies...best body EVER from hasbro) And it's Dooku! The guy is just cool IMO.

For articulation alone, i'd have to say Hoth Luke/Han/ ANY POTF "Action collection". Maybe i was spoiled by Saga Obiwan and Dooku, but i like ball jointed necks, or at least heads with a bit of a neck to them, instead of simply having the neckpost end on the body at the base of the skull. Heck even Dragon heads are better than that. For general Sculpt, I would have to give the nod to ROTS Lobster Claw Vader. Is he a Lord of the Sith, or a Goalie for the Edmonton Oilers? Saga Mace looks funky, but not in a good way...I'd just take his saber and give it to the Episode I version. In the "stupid ideas for 12 inch figures" category, ROTS Bariss Offee/Shaak Ti tie for first with their "empty boot glued to the leg" routine. That's my only gripe with them though...they're surprisingly well articulated. Pretty much a female version of the Dooku body (again, best 12 inch Body hasbro ever came out with...i think you'd have to go for a dragon body to do better, and even then the dragon body feels flimsier somehow, at least to me)
Sorry for the "War and Peace" version of my answer to a simple question :D

Finally got it fixed once and for all...it's not entirely perfect, but for a repair, i don't think i did TOO bad. I had a spare pull bead from a ceiling fan lying around. It was kind of oblong, tapered at one end, wide at the other. I managed to wedge it into a Hoth Luke head, and using most of Dooku's original uniform, i made myself a Jedi Luke! :D

Now that it's <almost> too late to suggest stuff...why not use a latex balloon for the sleeve/shirt? I would imagine the paint you used wouldn't harm it too much, then again i've never worked with latex and paint. I saw on a 1/6th forum someone used a balloon for a tube top or something...tho your mileage may vary. Otherwise an awesome job man :)

Ok, here is a movie styled Roron Cobb I finished tonight.  I figure most of the time he would have a robe on.  I know it's not 100% accurate to what he looks like the Clone Wars.

 :P

that looks awesome as always chewie...one thing tho...is he using the force to keep warm, cause i think he'd feel a draft otherwise...unless you know more about Ithorian plumbing than i do :P
