Other Toy Lines / Ever Sell An Item and Later Regret It?
« on: April 8, 2020, 12:18 PM »
Since so many of us have been collecting for a long time, inevitably it seems like you eventually run out of room or change interests - or whatever - and decide to sell something off. Over the years, is there anything you look back on and later think “really wish I would have held onto that”.

Personally I’ve had a few things, although it was for a good reason. Years ago we had one of those stretches where everything was kind of hitting at once with bills, repairs, etc and we needed the extra cash. As much as I regret missing some of that stuff now, it helped us out in a pinch without having to use credit cards and all that. Anyways, here’s a few off the top of my head:

Star Wars Clone Wars (sold most of these actually, kept around 20 of my favorites)

MOTU Classics Scare Glow, Swiftwind, etc. (I kept most of this line, but sold off a lot of the She Ra figures from the subscription, and some of the other high dollar figures. Scare Glow was my biggest regret because I really enjoy toys of that character. Too expensive to reacquire at this point)

Marvel Legends BAF Ronan (A few others as well, but this one is pricey to get a hold of now)

90s Spider-Man TAS Marvel Legends Mysterio!

I lucked out and was able to get the 2018 ML Mysterio for retail, but man, I love the colors on this one. I grew up on the 90s Spidey animated series and the ToyBiz toyline, so I went ahead and preordered.

I’m so in on this 90s retro line. I’ve liked the other releases they have done so far, but this Spidey-centric one really has me excited. I got the previous Mysterio as well (great figure), but already have this preordered. Honestly, these Legends retro lines, and stuff like the 40th Anniversary Star Wars (or OT vintage collection) are really the only things I keep a carded set of. Just love that old school packaging.

I picked up the Sectaurs line from Zica and they are all kinds of awesome.  I'd love to see small 3 & 3/4" articulated, well sculpted runs like that of several animated 80's cartoons.  Silverhawks, G-Force, Super Friends, etc.  I know we have had various offerings in the past, but I think a well done, Thundercats would be at the top of my list.

Honestly, the Zica Sectaurs is what got me thinking oh this topic in the first place. I didn’t have any of the vintage toys, but was at least aware of the cartoon/property. I love all those ‘80s lines, so decided to toss a Dargon in my Pile Of Loot order at BBTS to give it a try. When I got it, I was amazed. Such a great toy, and I instantly ordered Spydrax as well.

Love all the ideas here. I’d be so in for a six inch scale Indiana Jones figure as well. I’d take a whole line, but know Indy’s history at retail, I’d be happy with a nice, photo real Raiders version of Dr. Jones. I like the ‘80s icons line idea. I know it is impossible with different rights holders and licensees, but I’d love to see a line with Indy, Daniel LaRusso, Marty McFly, Rambo, Sloth from Goonies...etc.

A friend of mine and I have talked before about a “Hanna Barbera Legends” type line. Probably something only we would be interested, but having a lineup with Scooby Doo, Fred Flintstone, Yogi Bear, Captain Caveman, Josie, Blue Falcon, and a build a figure Grape Ape or Jabberjaw :D. You could basically plug any character in those slots, just some examples

Although there aren’t a ton of properties still left untouched, is there anything you’d like to see a modern toyline of? We’ve got a number of ongoing properties like Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers, and Turtles.....and other things covered anywhere from Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, the new six inch Joes, all the way down to the recent Zica Toys Sectaurs line.

Of the things that are left untouched, the big two for me would be M.A.S.K. and Silverhawks. I guess Silverhawks was fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, but I was a fan as a kid and would love to see a modern update. It would be great if we could still get some vac metal in there too, but that might be wishful thinking. M.A.S.K. probably has even greater potential with the vehicle aspect. I don’t know whether to stick in the same scale or change. I’d say 6” is out just because of the vehicles being so important. I really love that they did the 3 3/4” Matt Trakker figure in the Joe line years back, and really hoped that would be the start of a spinoff line. I’d be happy to see either or both return.

So Hasbro revealed Destro today (for “Joe” day), and he looks pretty great. Definitely more along the lines of updating the Real American Hero look, similar to Snake Eyes. I know reaction to the other three has been mixed, but this looks pretty good.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2020 TVC Wave 1 (aka New TVC Wave 11)
« on: March 12, 2020, 08:47 PM »
Just when I sort of started to forget how much I enjoy the 3 3/4” figures, TVC reminds me how much I miss it. I received Mando, Cara, and the Troop transport, and all three are just so nice. Honestly it isn’t often that I pick up a non 6” figure these days (because there isn’t much anymore), but so happy with all of these.

I had a “pile of loot” shipping from BBTS, and saw they had these in stock, so I threw a Dargon into my shipment to check them out. From everything I’ve seen about these online, they are very well done. I never had Sectaurs as a kid, but always thought they looked cool.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2020: What Are You Collecting?
« on: February 26, 2020, 07:46 PM »
Time for the post Toy Fair update. Hooo boy, was there a lot of neat stuff shown. I’m usually in for the standard “continuing to cut back, focus on Star Wars and Marvel” line, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted by other stuff. First with the old standbys:

Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series, picking and choosing but likely picking up more than I don’t. Honestly really excited for the Empire stuff even though a lot of them are repacks. The face scan improvements almost make them like new figures. Snowspeeder and Probot too. For TVC, gimme those Mando figures.

Marvel Honestly Legends has probably been the majority of my purchases since the slow release method of Star Wars started. Legends is kind of the opposite as it is almost too much. Luckily, as nice as they look, a lot of the stuff recently shown is stuff I can live without. I mostly gravitate towards classic comic looks or movie versions. Most excited here for the Spidey retro series with Spidey, Pete, and Gwen Stacy (!), with more to come.

And to “the rest”...

GI Joe Classified Already preordered Snake Eyes, likely in on the rest for now too.

MOTU Origins Not until Fall, and then WM exclusive for this year (ugh), but I like what I see and they are supposed to be affordable. Lots of nostalgia for MOTU stuff because honestly I think it was the toy line I had/got the most of as a kid.

Ghostbusters I kind of feel this could be a big year for Ghostbusters with the new movie and lots of products. I already preordered the “Kenner Real Ghostbusters” re-releases, because I always wanted the team as a kid but was only able to get Egon. That first wave of “Plasma Series” is calling me as well.

TMNT Ultimates There is just too much great Turtles stuff these days. I really like what we have seen previewed from Super 7, and I currently have the first two waves preordered and hope to get them unless it becomes cost prohibitive. I’ve also grabbed some of the NECA cartoon figures that are exclusive to Target. Those are pretty great (with more on the way), but I do sort of feel like I should stick to one Turtles line at some point.

Thundercats Ultimates I missed out on the line when they tried it at Matty, so I think I’m in on these at least for the main characters. The others, we will see.

Transformers: Earthrise It has been awhile since I really “collected” Transformers, but Hasbro has really been killing it the past couple years. I don’t get them all, but try to nab the G1 stuff, specifically the original Arc crew (and ones like the upcoming Arcee)

Overall, way too much. It just seems like a new golden age for an ‘80s kid collector with all of these various properties getting big pushes. I’ll likely stick to my basics, and use a sort of “checks and balances” system for the rest. Adding something new here means I pass on something else there. Only so much money and space!

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Rumors

Again stealing from Jayson, he believes all Endor for the big 3

I’m all for that. ROTJ, specifically Endor, has been severely lacking in this line so far. I get it though too, everything kind of gets it’s time. This year, it is Empire and the prequels largely, at least for the first part of 2020. I’d be down for the Endor trio though, and a handful of Ewoks while we are at it.

Same here. I haven’t preordered yet, but plan to. I actually kind of like the kiddo line they showed as well. And definitely in on the Kenner Real Ghostbusters re-releases they have planned (except that they are WM exclusives)

Middle Earth / Re: Lord of the Rings Figures
« on: February 23, 2020, 09:25 AM »
Funny how we were just talking about this line, and at Toy Fair this weekend Diamond Select announces a new line of figures. The first wave has a build a figure of Sauron. Looks like the lineup includes Strider, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo, a Ringwraith, and I believe a Goblin.

Ok, so we’ve seen Snake Eyes, Duke, Scarlett, and Roadblock this weekend so far. To me, these look pretty nice. Snake Eyes is amazing, the others are maybe a little different than I expected, but I still like them. Duke was my very first Joe, so happy to see that. Scarlett was a favorite as well, and Roadblock is cool too. Surprised at no Cobra reveals (yet?)

Hasbro guys love them some X-Men and Spider-Man.

As long as they are in the BAF reissuing mood, how about Annihilus?

Was there really a HasLab Sentinel announced or were people just joking about that on the comments thread?

I did see the HasLab Sentinel thing mentioned on Instagram as well, but nothing concrete.

Overall, another huge convention for Legends. It seems like they show so much new at each of these shows (especially compared to Star Wars). Lots of neat stuff, hopefully a fair amount I can pass on though to afford other things. I am all in on that retro Spidey wave though! Gwen Stacy was at the top of my want list for this line for awhile now. I really like that Hugh Jackman Wolverine figure as well. X-Men movie stuff looks nice. You can tell there isn’t a big Avengers movie this year,as they are trying a lot of different themes (Deadpool again, Age of Apocalypse, Gamerverse, Venomized, etc)

149
Along with the Falcon, the Snowspeeder was the only other Star Wars vehicle I had as a kid, so it has always been one of my favorites. Even with space ever dwindling, I don’t think I can pass on this. It looks great too.

Side note, it really shows the shift in popular scales where - outside of the little TVC we saw - everything else (Black Series, Marvel Legends, Ghostbusters, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers) is 6” scale. It does make me worry a little about the longevity of 3 3/4” stuff. It seems like the rest of the lines generally have a $10 “kid” line, and a $20-25 “collector” line.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2020 TVC Boba Fett's Slave I w/stand
« on: February 22, 2020, 08:41 PM »
$150 for a ship I already have?   I can't believe I am actually considering buying this just for the stand...   :-[

Same issue I’m having. I already have this (for much cheaper), and I’m perfectly happy with it, but dang if I don’t like that stand. Plus, I’m a sucker for that box. I think the mere fact that there is already so much else I’m interested in for the year will help to keep me from buying this again.
