Title: 25 pounds in 6 weeks. Can I do it? V 2.0
Post by: Ryan on September 20, 2005, 06:56 PM
Well it's official. I'm going to try and lose weight like Kevin. I had my first hockey game of the season on Sunday and I realized how dreadfully out of shape I am. I decided it is time to get my weight back down to where it was in high school. At the end of my senior football season, I was in the best shape of my life. I was runing and lifting 5 days a week and weighed about 245-250. Which was the most I had ever weighed, but at 6'4" that isn't bad, and I was actually pretty solid. I had plans to walk-on to the Football team here at CSU, and I more than likely would have made it. Once track season started in February I couldn't lift after school any more and no one wanted to lift with me after track practice, so I was only lifting 3 times a week, and only got anything done once a week. By the end of track I wasn't in very good shape. It got worse over the summer because I had work at the time my friends would go and lift and they didn't want to wait for me, so I rarely lifted over the summer, and once I got to school it got worse. I wasn't active at all.

A year and a half later I'm now 273.4 lbs. and in the worst shape of my life. I'm sick of it. Unlike Kevin I only want to lose 20-25 pounds in 6 weeks, which works out to about 3.3 to 4.2 lbs. a week, which I think is very do-able. I don't want to be skinny because I've always been the big kid, I just want to get in shape and be back to my normal size. Right now I have 2 hcokey games a week and I plan on swimming 3 days a week and I want to start lifting again. I'm not going to do any serious dieting, my eating habits haven't changed to much over the last year. I am however going to try to eat more fruits and vegetables and cut down on what little fast food I eat. Like Kevin I'll update here as I progress.  :)

That's a kick ass plan Ryan!  Sounds like you've got some great ideas for doing this - I wish you the best of luck.

But, damn.  6'4", 270?  You must cut one hell of an intimidating shadow.

At 5'8", there's not much intimidation factor.   ::)

Well, if you had made an effort to go to the exhibit hall in Indy, you'd have seen his tall ass.

Good decision. We need a JediDefender weigth loss club, I think.

I suppose, but there is still fat around the edges. :-[ I'd LOVE to be a solid 270 but that would involve hours in the gym everyday and one hell of a diet. Right now I'd be happy with a solid 255ish.

Thanks for the support guys. It really makes me want to pull this off. Anyone want to join me? :)

You know I'm game to match your 25lbs myself. God knows I still need it. Lets do it! Who else?

Tempting.  Very tempting.  I'm getting to this stage, but am still making adjustments at home and in my schedule to improve my activity level.  Maybe in a few months I'll be ready to commit to something like this.   :-\

No time like the present Jesse. Even a simple diet change (switching from white to rye, from Regular to Unleaded-er, diet, and cutting out fattening goodies and so forth) can help. A small goal like 10lbs in a month is nice.

You gotta keep up with us young'uns if your gonna be hitting 30. ;)

I have made a few changes, but I'm not actually watching the scale, yet.

But I'm getting there, still mentally preparing for the work needed.  I don't want to jump in before I know I'm ready in order to put 100% into achieving my goal.  Like I said, I'm getting there...

Kevin

That's why I started now. I figured it will never be easier than now and I gotta stop telling myself I'll do it later.

Like Kevin said even a small change in diet can get results. You could set a small goal like 5-10 pounds a month and once you're ready you can fully commit. :)

I will!  I've put it off long enough.  Not ready for the full tilt boogey of 25lbs in 6 weeks but I'll do 10lbs.  I need to start somewhere and you guys can help give me the extra encouragement I need.  We can cheer each other on! :)

I would love to lose about 10 lbs.  I am 5"7 and weigh 155.  When I was in college, I was 135lbs and could bench 220.  For a guy of that size, that was pretty good.  Plus 4-5 days a week, I would go on an 8-10 mile run.

Now, 5 years later I'm in really bad shape... I just don't have the motivation to get back in shape.

I do wish the best of luck though to all of you that do start doing this.

I just don't have the motivation to get back in shape.

Mens health magazine reports that men who lose more weight experience better lovemaking with their wives, than those who are overweight, or out of shape. Hows that for some motivation?

That's good motivation, and it's damn true too.  Maybe I need to rethink my life.

*bump*
Since it's the New Year I decided to bump this up.  I joined Weight Watchers yesterday and I plan to lose some serious weight and get fit this year.  I think Kevin's a great inspiration for us 8)  Who else is in?

I'd like to lose 40 but not by Weight Watchers method..I'll try to run it off. Would like to get down to 200lbs ::) It's been some years since I've been that low-well not since after 9/11 when we deployed for war. 8)

I've always had a pretty substantial frame and I really carry 200 lbs quite nicely for being 73" but it just gonna be a test to get there. Annually for fitness exams I can get down to 224-226 (enough to pass the tests but..... I could stand to lose more and look better than a sloth)

Didn't mean for others to join Weight Watchers too -- only to join me in an effort to lose the weight and get fit  ;)  Running sounds like a good plan Jon -- don't think my fat ass will be doing that for a while though.......... :P  I did WW before I had my last baby and I lost 50lbs -- worked well for me.

whoa 50! that's awesome :o. Shoot, why even worry about 10 now or is that all you need to lose? Sounds great, though

I run every year from Jan till May/ June..I get to where I'm going 3-4 miles a day(I consider not bad for a 35 year old over 200). After my annual fitness exam(that I pass) I slack(sloth) off-  gotta stop that!

10?  I wish! :P  I'm still carrying the baby weight -- and she was born over a year ago!  I need to lose 40 just to get back where I was on WW before I got pregnant :-[

hell i'll join in.  i figure i need to lose about 20 so while everybody laughs at how pathetic that is, you guys don't know how lazy my ass is to actually do it, or how low my will power is to run to the snack machine.  i hit my 10 years since i graduated H.S. this June so even though i might not even go to a reunion i'd at least like to get back to the weight i was back then.  so is there a definate date as to when we start?

No time like the present -- how about now?  Or for the procrastinators I'll cut you some slack -- say Monday?

I actually put on 10 thanks to holiday eating. In my family, it's like an insult to tell some one you can't have your food. Then they make you eat more than the first serving. It's a vicious cycle. But I've been on the excercise train the entire time. I just needed to get back on the diet horse.

I've been back on my diet again for about a week and I'm already feeling better again.

My next goal is another 50. That seems like much, but I want to be a comfortable 200-210lbs. I'm thinking I'm going to keep the 6 week goal I estableshed the last time I went to war with the bulge!

Good luck gang!

Kevin

Try as I may (which isn't very hard) I can't get under 150 lbs.  I have a bit of a gut.  But I'm just too damn lazy to do anything about it.

How tall are you? If you're 5'-5" or over you're doing fine. Check this out, (http://www.cigna.co.uk/main/individuals/products/tools/weight.asp#form1) and then hit the gym vs. trying to starve it off.

bumping this thread with a late update:

I lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks so far..from 242 to 228.
Could probably be more lost but I can't run still. I've had 'heel spur' plantar fasciatus in my left foot so I can't run like I'd like to. I've just finished physical therapy and after several months I'm now back to 90% on that foot healed. My Doc doesn't want me to run until he gets a chance to fit my foot with a special orthopedic sole. In the mean time I've been exercising 2 times a day for 40 minutes to an hour each time. I can do the eliptical machine, ergo bike, swim or water aerobics. I'm also lifting weights 3 times a week again. So far "It's working --it's working". ahhh, sigh just 28 pounds more to lose I'll bet the last 15 will be real tough :( So for right now...I'm still a fatass but at leasted I don't look like a bloated fatass. :-\
