Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Custom Works By Jedi_Master_Ben
« on: April 6, 2006, 06:04 PM »
Hi everyone,

I would like to thank everyone who has provided some information about the Bothan size. According to "The Essential Guide to Alien Species" and the official Star Wars web site, Bothans average height is 1.5 meters (4.9 ft). According to the SWG WIKI (http://www.atombender.de/swgwiki/index.php/Homepage), the Bothan species average Height: 1.3 to 1.54 meters (4.26 ft to 5.05 ft). According to the Star Wars web site, Zett is 1.57 meters (5.15 ft). So in short, a Zett body would be the ideal height to do the Bothan Jedi. And it will be the bases for customize figures to match the anatomy of the Bothan.

Thanks again everyone, I have a Zett figure coming to me on loan for a teen age Twi'lek project, I can also do a Bothan head now as well. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks,

Chewie,

I found this group picture of almost all the aliens in Star Wars Galaxies game.

Notice how short the bothan is to the rest of the party. At the moment, I was thinking that a Zett body would fit the hight of a bothan. What do you think?

Chewie,

Consider it done ;D. As soon as Bantha5 wax gets here, the sooner I can start the finnal process for casting. This project has been great for me, I just wish I had more loose figures arround so I am not using the same bodies over and over again when it is time to show the WIP. I don't know how many more female senators, female jedi, or male smuggler I can come up with (rouge 99 ;D). I am currently bidding on a loose lot of Jedis including the Obi Wan #55. I will know by tommarrow If I won it. Wish me luck ;D.

On a side note, I was looking up the Bothan and according to the Galaxey game, they are dwarf compared to humans. Is this right? If so, what body types would customizers use to fit the head with? Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks again Chewie,

Thanks Gregorbian for the compliment. I takes me 2-8 hours per head the lesser if I do a press clay base head to sculpt to. I have a silicon mold of verious gi joe heads that I used to have and press clay into each side and bring the halves together. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I do this only for my back ground charaters and I so much detail work on them like hats and facial hair, by the time I am done, there is no resemblence of the joe head there. It was a great tool for me as a sculptor starting out. It taught me how to place the eyes and mouth and ears correctly in this scale. Now, I rarely use it anymore. The only problem is that the joe female heads were not proportiant to the SW females, to big. Besides, when I made this mold, there were only Leia heads available.

Again, thanks for the comment.

Hi everyone,

I got another sculpt head for you today. This is the third generic male Twi'lek sculpt with the head tails swept back. This one was another  quick one. I started this sculpt out by doing a clay impression of another gi joe head that I had made a mold of long ago. Nothing really speacal about this head, that is why he made a great generic head. I cut the peg and hollowed out the head and stuck it on a han solo body. From this point on, I sculpted the rest. The only thing left of the joe is the eyes and mouth. everything else had to be modified for the Twi'lek.  This is what I came up with, the Twi'lek Rouge 2

I hope you will  enjoy.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I just posted detailed pics of male Twi'lek head sculpt. This one with the head tail sweeped back. I have been asked to do a teenage Twi'lek to go on a Zett body. So that gave me an idea to do youngling male and female heads. Once I have the third female head done, and I get te Zett body in, I will sculpt the teenagers. After I have them molded and casted, I could offer them up as individual heads or as a Twi'lek set.  I am trying to get some ROTS loose jedi figures including Obi wan #55 so I can sculpt the Qui-Gon Jin and Cin Drallig, and I have a body comming to me on loan to sculpt the Luxan head on. So then the next head will be the Bothans. Acording to the Galaxey game, Bothans are like Hobits, shorter than humans. I will figure something out. Any input on how to treat the Bothans would be of help.

Thanks for stopping by,

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Fodder Alert!
« on: April 5, 2006, 06:11 PM »
OK, who's got them, where do we go pay for them, what does the container look like, what old lady do I need to run over to get these? ;D ;D ;D

All kidding a side, these lookl to cool. If only Hasbro sculpted the well. They did a toy line back in the '90s that no where look as good as those. And these are considered prizes from a vending machine, like you see at wal-marts (with crappy toys)? I need to move to Japan, who'w with me. ;D ;D ;D

Great find there, budy!!!

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: casting halves
« on: April 5, 2006, 05:40 PM »
Hi there,

OK, here is the run down on the torsol casting... you have to seperate the original torsol apart in order to cast both halves. You are actually making two molds, on for each half of the body. Almost nobody does this because the way that the halves are sealed. They are sonicly welded together, so the only way to seperate them is to cut them apart which in most cases destroys the body. What Glassman6, Bantha5 and my self do is make a two part mold of the body halves together. Now for those who do want to cast two halves, there are at least two safe ways to go about it. One way is to brush in the plastice resin into the mold in stages, causing a shell. The more palstic you put in, the thicker the shell. Once you have the desired thickness, clean the halves, place the limbs and head and glue the halves together. The other method is to pour liquid wax into the mold all the way to the edge. Let it cool and then put the two halves together. If they do not fit, shave off the excess until they fit. Now with a wax pen, start carving out the wax to hollow it out. Using old model kits, find a male and female peg that would make the locking mechanism. Fit the two halves again for one last alignment check and then make a new mold of the wax casting. From here you will make the plastic cast and then reassemble the  figure. In either case, you are looking at a very labor intensive project and you probable only want to do a few important customs to venture into such a costly and time consumming project. This is a professional level stage of toy production and is normally way to advance for the casual hobbiest. But, if you have the time and money to invest into this area of toy production, you could turn out professional looking customs.

I hope this will help you and any others out there that maybe thinking about doing this.

Hey Chewie,

Well I got to tell yah, WOW!!!

REPUBLIC HOVER TANK:  That Imperial APC is the bomb, man. You did not load down the vehicle with too much trinkets and parts that would over power the vissual effect of the vehicle. Nice paint job, as ussual. I like the use of the R2 dome on the  roof.

CLONE URBAN TROOPERS:  A great way to use extra fodder to creat something new. A little back story and bam, you have something new that all the little kidies (and the big ones too) will want to run out and buy it off the shelf. ;D

JUNK DROIDS:  As the old saying goes, "one mans junk is another mans treasure." Another fine example what you can do with praticlely nothing. They look great, enough so that they need to worry about wondering jawas. ;D

JEDI MASTER ROULIS TELLSTEN: Very interesting looking character. Very catlike in his apperance. Another Jedi Master ready to fall on Darth Vaders' saber. ;D

I was looking over your photonovel again and I remembered another customizer over at RS, Hank5, who had these dead jedi customs that I thought would look good in your photo novel.   Here is the link.

Anyways, great update, Chewie. I can't wait to see more.

Hi Darth Nirvana,

I am not sure if it is the pictures or just me, these figures have a sence of realism going on here. They look more like the 21st century soldiers than star wars figures. It is a very interesting approach to doing a repaint, suttle and effective. Good job.

Hi Commander_Miseria,

Nice repaint. That bike looks like it would have been part of the troopers unit. Also, nice weathering too.

 Hi Fritzkrieg,

Well, from hot chicks to the undead troopers and now the box art rendering of the republic commando, you deffently have a large palet to work from. I enjoy looking at your stuff, mainly because I do not know what to expect next from you. The commando looks great. I can't wait to see more.
