Post by: Jayson on September 10, 2007, 09:24 AM
Concept Grievous at SWshop.com (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=414198;category_id=;pcid1=;pcid2=) Even though it says "out of stock" I was able to add it to my cart place the order and I received confirmation.

I was able to order too... strange, we'll see if the orders last.

At $16.99 plus shipping, I think I'll draw the line at this one and pass.  This is a tad out of control.  That's a $6.99 figure.

Exactly.  That's a single basic carded 3.75" figure.  It should sell for $6-7.

I'm just wondering, is there any price that collectors won't pay for a figure?

If it were $19.99, would there be any fewer orders than a $16.99?  How about $24.99?  Don't worry, it's not too far off.

At this price, I'm out.  I've reached my limit on what I'm willing to pay for a single star wars figure.  I'm not willing to be ripped off at these levels.

Hey now to be fair it's only a 240% mark up... that Shadow Scout Speederbike was around 250% mark-up, so this is a deal in comparison!   :P

Of course I'll buy a pair, but what about the "pre" cyborg Grievous??  Is he going to be an exclusive as well?

Nope he's part of Wave 5

Guys, don't forget we are getting a shiny new star case with each figure  :P  That's got to be worth the extra $10 they are charging us, right?!
Title: Re: SWShop Concept General Grievous

I thought in the past some figures were able to be purchased either way :-\

I don't see why they don't make it an option to purchase with or without the star case. Or, for those who are Hyperspace members, throw the case in for free and/or charge a lower price for the figures themselves.

I guess that would required customer service and recognition of customer loyalty.

I don't think there used to be an option??  All I know is every figure I received from them came with a creased/stressed card and a dented bubble on EVERY order.  Even if you're an opener - does it not make you feel better that you're opening a pristine piece?  Maybe not, but I would.

If it was a normal $6.50 Target/Wally/TRU release I'd seriously consider it since the design looks cool ... but $17 + shipping is just ******* dumb. Pass.

On the bright side, it's an original sculpt, not a glorified repaint like the recent Shadow Troopers or the Lava figures and Target Trooper of yore.

What's strange to think is that I got my V-Wing at Target for $17.99.  A price around there is a bargain... for a vehicle.

I think they're taking advantage of folks like me who are trying to get all the concept figures or all of the coins.  The exclusives have already been pricey this year, but now $17 + shipping for one figure?  And it's just Grievous, at that?  What really blows my mind is that I've seen people express happiness that it's just $17 instead of $20, as though it's some great savings.

Consider this - for just a few dollars more you could get three more figures and two comics.

How ****** up is that?

I like the figure, but hate the price obviously...  I need the coin/figure to be complete, so I'll put an order in I guess.  Sucks that the supposed "Fan store" dicks over the fans so much though.

I think that's the real gripe about anything fan-involved with this hobby...  The Fan Club, the Fan Club Store, Hypersnatch...  Whatever it is, it seems like it's usually a rip in terms of value.  It's a shame LFL is everything Lucas claims he hated.

Like Jesse (and others), I like the figure - and I'd like the coin to stay somewhat complete there, but I haven't pulled the trigger quite yet.  The price just seems steep to me too.  It isn't like we haven't seen it before (and this year), but I guess the spending has been heavy enough lately where a $17 EU Grievous doesn't sound that spiffy to me right now.  Now, if it was an OT character (McQuarrie) I'd be all over it - but as it stands, I'm on the fence with this one right now.

I felt bad enough paying $20 for the McJedi 2 pack.  I just can't bring myself to pay it again for Grievous.  I gave up on getting all the coins to.  That gold coin crap ended that for me.

I vowed to buy every McQuarrie figure because they're so damn cool, but I draw the line here. If it were OT, I'd pick it up but at this point it doesn't fit in with the rest of the McFigures. Besides, I bet it gets rereleased when Hasbro starts the PT McQuarrie line.

In short: **** SWS.com and their ridiculous pricing.

Yeah, it looks like more people are coming around to see this point of view.  Unfortunately, this should have started with Target and their $12.99 basic figure exclusives during EIII, because that was a major stepping stone to getting to this point where SWS.com is charging $16.99 for a figure.

I wish I saw this kind of outrage back then because we probably would have never gotten to this point if we all left that **** on the pegs where it belonged.

I completely agree, Dressel. Had I known that those $13 figures would lead to $7-8 basic figures (with less articulation/accessories) and $20 exclusive figures then I wouldn't have gone crazy for them back in 05. And now that I'm in college with little money to spend on anything other than food, I have to be very selective of what I buy. If this were $10, maybe even $15 I'd consider it. But this kind of price for one figure... it ain't happening.

I hate dealing with starwarsshop.com they are impossible to contact and take days to get back to you. I even got charged for stuff I canceled on my credit car had to fight it out. so it always pains me to have any dealings with them. I bought 2 at the ridiculous price sometimes, make that most of the time I hate exclusives.

While I have no problem with concept prequel stuff I feel he did not deserve the McQuarrie package style. But that just my opinion. Hu did not earn that kind of status yet. Anyone else agree in some regard?

Ditto.

And the only reason this figure wound up on SWS.com as an "exclusive" for $17 plus shipping is that someone decided that we'd all be ripe for the picking to be gouged and ripped off.

Glad to see so many of you refusing to pay the $17 dollar ransom for this figure, that may help keep costs down the next time they try it.

And remember, this is an all new mold.  We'll probably see this figure again sometime now that the mold is made.  And the same goes for all of the McQuarrie figures for that matter.  And next time, they won't be such a ripoff.

Since it's not a McQuarrie concept, it's an easy pass for me.  Hell, I'm thinking of stopping once I get a vader and Starkiller Hero.  I like the Snowtrooper and Fleet Trooper, but not sure I want to go outside the "main character" realm.

I know, this is my last time paying that much for a figure. And no more 12.99 for Target "exclusives" I figures this my last year being a completest, I really only want to concentrate on EU figures, Jabba's palace, and Cantiana creatures..the rest..maybe some Ewoks..STOP ME! LOL

FYI if you read Hasbro Q&A they will not be doing any Vinatge figures..there goes a really great Dengar to round out the bounty hunters.

Opened this guy up last night. While it's pretty decent, I'd have to say it's one of my least favorite concepts. The articulation is fine, but I just think the sculpt is kind of blah.

Putting all the $17 talk aside, I have to say that this Grievous is actually a really nice figure.

- He's got ball jointed ankles, knees, elbows, shoulders, head; plus swivel hips and torso.
- He's got a great soft goods cape, a removable chest panel, and some unique weapons.
- He's the best scaled Grievous so far

Yeah, he cost way more than he should, but he's definitely a nice figure once you get him open.  He makes for a nice transition display between that Wave 5 Pre-Cyborg Grievous figure and the more "robot" RotS Grievous figures.

Wish I could say I regret spending the $40 to get 2 of them, but honestly I don't.

I like this look better than the final version too, it is more vader-esque, like they were using stock parts to rebuild total body blowouts back at the time of the clone wars- The 4 arms was a very cool feature of the final design- but the nagging cough?

Does anyone know what the spoilers on his head are supposed to be good for? Did he need to be aerodynamic for some reason?

And thanks for the cool pic, because that is as close as I will get to a $17 single carded figure

My two Grievious's are more of a creamy light grey.  I prefer the one in that pic much better.
