Collections / Darth_Anton's Imperial Base Update 9/6
« on: June 23, 2006, 10:26 PM »
Using makeshift materials, I constructed this "base" in the corner of my office. If I get a chance I'll take some more detailed photos, there's a lot of little "bits" going on. Also, didn't bother with lighting which helped to contribute to the soft focus, so my apologies. (The soft focus does hide the dust, so I guess that works in my favor. :P )

Basically, what you're looking at is a square table with FedEx boxes, covered in black standing upright, holding up a square mirror that's almost as big as the surface of the table. Cheep, I know, but I just don't have the time to make something more respectable.

I did make the Vader landing platform out of foam core.

Watto's Junk Yard / Star Wars on DVD - the future
« on: June 21, 2006, 09:42 AM »
As some of you may know, I have many friends who work in the DVD industry in various capacities. One of them has passed along an interesting piece of information that has not and will not be released to the public that you'll certainly find interesting:

Lucasfilm is planning to release new Star Wars DVD's every November for the next 10 years.

The content of those DVD's is not known to my contact, however he did confirm that many at Lucasfilm insisted that they take the time to do the anamorphic transfer for this years release. Obviously, they were shot down.

Saga Collection '06 / Your idea of a good year - volume wise.
« on: May 30, 2006, 03:52 PM »
Personally, I think this year is just insane. Two years, back to back, with over 60 basic figures, lots of ships and lots of exclusives. For a movie year, I can see it, but now, it's just too much.

So what would you like to see released in any particular year? Do you like the current volume? would like to see less? a lot less?

I'd definitely like to see less. I think less than 50 basic figures a year, 6-8 VOTC styled, 4-5 ships and no more exclusives! :P

Watto's Junk Yard / CA, IL and VT residents
« on: April 26, 2006, 10:10 AM »
Mods, please read before judging. Please remove if necessary.

I was surprised to learn that state governments have the power to draft presidential impeachment recommendations and submit them to the federal congress. At that point, congress must stop everything they're doing, debate the issue, and I believe put impeachment to a vote before addressing any other issue.

As we speak, CA, IL and VT are drafting such a recommendation based on the several issues that plague the current administration (wire taps, leaking classified information, intelligence manipulation etc....) In my own state of CA, there's a potential hold up because our legislators are considering the personal impact this will have on themselves once this happens. In other-words, it may not be worth their time if the fallout after the official recommendation prevents them for getting state business done.

Now, the reason why I bring this up is because we all have a responsibility to make our voices heard on this very important issue. Do you support impeachment? Are you against it? Call or e-mail your local congressmen (state, not federal) as I did and let them know what you think. Then, tell your friends. Enough people hounding them either way could sway their vote.

Lastly, please do not give your opinion either way. I'm not here to voice my opinion on the subject, just to inform people that they can take part in a historic decision. Whether you support impeachment or not, you're doing a disservice by de-railing this thread as you are preventing others who think the same as you from taking part.

Watto's Junk Yard / Watch Mammoth on Sci-Fi
« on: April 15, 2006, 12:25 PM »
Sorry for the shameless promotion, but I wanted to promote the Sci-Fi original picture "Mammoth" airing on the 22nd. It's a bit of a deal for me because my good friend wrote it and our mutual friend directed it. It was almost my assignment, but for some reason, this premise work out better.

Is it good? I think it's a cut above the normal MOTW fare, but it's still a Sci-fi channel MOTW. It stars Vincent Vantreska, Summer Glau and Tom Skerrit. Enjoy.

Sorry if I'm missing something that answers my question, but is there any particular place we can post comments on the pictures in the image database? I only ask because the pictures Jared just took of the new Obi-wan are just awesome and wanted to find the best place to give kudos where kudos are due.

My suggestion: perhaps they an be tied into Jesse's reviews?

Star Wars Action Figures / Darth_Anton's customs

Sorry if this isn't the proper way to go about asking but...

I have an extra Madine that I would like to customize. Ultimately, I'd like to end up with a Hoth Madine and a fleet uniform Reekin. Reekin is easy enough, the question I have is about making the Hoth Madine. Now, I'm not a sculpter, so I have to stick to simple head swapping and I don't care for the Reekin body, so I'd rather use Derlin's.

Is this what you guys would do?
Also, it looks like the neck is a seperate piece on Derlin. Is this true? Will it pop out using the hot water/plastic softening method so I can put Madine's in and have the joint function?
Finally, what do you suggest for the rank? Scrape off the three pips and paint your own?

Expert advice would be appreciated. Thanks. 8)

Episode 1 / Eopie
« on: January 12, 2006, 09:38 AM »
Tell us your thoughts on the Eopie set. Do you consider this a part of a balanced and complete set? Do you have one? How did you get yours?

Dispite the fact that this was never released in America, I'm still trying to track down a boxed set. I do have a loose one aquired through a trade though. I think it turned out to be the best of the best assortments.

Hey Hasbro! / NO CHASE FIGURES!!!
« on: January 7, 2006, 01:15 PM »
Hasbro, please say the rumored chase figures are not true. This is a bad idea and could kill your brillient line ala Playmates Star Trek. I have been collecting the 3 3/4" figures since 1977 and spending my hard earned money on them since 1995. If the chase program is implimented, I will no longer purchase your product.

Vintage Trading and Classifieds / Need black blaster set
« on: January 5, 2006, 11:21 AM »
I need one of each of the following BLACK blasters to complete my loose set:

Han Trench coat blaster
A-wing/Imperial Gunner blaster
Luke Stormtrooper blaster

I'd entertain buying them, but I'd also be willing to part with a practically mint loose A-wing pilot, coinless, for all three (minus weapon of course.)

For those of you looking at this who are not well versed in vintage, I need the harder to find black blasters, not the common blue/black blasters which often look black. :P

Thanks.

Vintage Kenner / Luke Stormtrooper
« on: December 21, 2005, 06:54 PM »
Please merge if the topic already exists. I have not been able to master the search feature here. :P

I just picked up a loose Luke Stormtrooper. It is the last Vinatge figure I need (not including Vinyl Jawa and the DT's.) Anyway, I'm in need of expert assistance to make sure I got the original helmet and weapon.

First, the helmet. I'm reasonably confident it's real, but never having even held one I new to be %100 complete, I just wanted to make sure. I'm confident it's real because it has slight pait wear and dirt/discolorization seems to have invaded the seams (slightly.) The helmet is also hard, which I wasn't expecting. I kind of thought it might be like Boushh's helmet. Any thoughts or test that I can do? Things I should check to test it's authentisity?

Now the Blaster. I am well aware that Luke's has a unique color tint. However, after comparing his blaster to the many I have, there seems to be several tint variations. Can anyone give me a dead bang comparisson? At first I thought it was the right one, now I'm not so sure. :(

Thanks in advance for your help.

Revenge of the Sith / Christmas and ROTS
« on: December 14, 2005, 12:02 PM »
So, how are your shelves looking? I honestly can't remember seeing SW toys moving this well for the holidays in a long time. Even stores that were packed with pegwarmers and mid-sized vehicles a month ago are down to a few Nemodian Warriors. How are the toys moving in your area?

Toy Reviews / Re: JD Review: Shaak Ti (Jedi Master)

Nice review Jesse. I really can't add anything because I think you nailed everything. Despite any limitations, I wouldn't complain if this figure was not improved upon.
