 :o :o :o

I'm all in on this one. Would give my left nut to see what Michonne will look like.

Awesomeness!

Boo, 6" figures...  I'm already out.  ::)

Why can't anyone accept that they can do more in a smaller scale?  If this were articulated 3.75", I'd be all over it.

EE has photos up...they look awesome. They are definitely all based on the comics rather than the TV show, but that's cool. Some pretty good gore there.

Series two will be figures based on the TV show. It's pretty cool that McFarlane is mixing things up by making both comic and TV figures. I would've loved some 3 3/4 TWD figures since I'm not big into larger figures. I might pick up some of the TV figures, but it really depends on how they look.

3.75" scale would've had me hooked too I think.  I really dislike the larger scales and wish companies would abandon 6" figures all together.  I figured with things the way they were in China it might've happened by now where everyone goes to a smaller scale to save on materials and get more production out of the steel they're using, but ultimately it seems like 6" is not going anywhere and 3.75" is the one suffering anymore.

If they did 3-3/4" scale, with similar quality to Star Wars, I'd buy every figure.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: McMetal on June 7, 2011, 09:47 AM
I prefer the larger style figures, despite the space crunch. I find generally the smaller the toy, the crappier the quality. Especially in the sculpts/likenesses.

Yeah. it'd be great if we got the TVC quality 3 3/4 figs, but more likely we would get something more akin to THOR or POTC...ugh. Pass.

The odds are much better that these characters will look superior in a larger size, IMO. I think they did a great job, these are right up there with the Watchmen figures in terms of source accuracy.

I just wonder if I will actually ever see these in a store.

BBTS has pictures of the TV figures. (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=MCF13392&mode=retail)

They look phenomenal.... it will definitely be tempting to get those Zombie figures.

As for the debate on scale, I prefer 3 3/4 inch stuff as a fan of toys. The smaller figures generally seem to be more durable since they are targeted towards kids, plus I can amass a larger collection since they don't take up as much space.

I do think the sculpting on the larger figures is terrific, but in my limited experience I have found Neca and DC select figures to be considerably more fragile than what I get from Hasbro. I haven't gotten anything made by McFarlane toys yet, but I'm sure I'll cave and get the TWD zombie figures.

I see Walking Dead has a big presence at SDCC. Anyone know if the figures are on display? Or for sale? I am wondering which retail outlets will actually carry these when released this Fall...

Finally saw these at TRU, pretty sure I will be unable to resist these. They just look too cool, and it's a small line I can easily accommodate right now. I just wish the pricing was better, $16.99 is a little steep, IMO.

Has anyone spotted these anyplace other than online or at TRU? I guess they are probably too gruesome for Walmart or Target, but I was hoping some comic shops or Hot Topic might carry them.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: CHEWIE on October 28, 2011, 11:23 AM
They've been sitting on the pegs for 2 weeks now at both my local TRU stores.

I still think at 3.75 scale they'd do better, and would appeal to a larger audience, plus they'd be more affordable.  I'm a huge fan of TWD, but I'm not paying $16.99 a pop, especially for figures that don't fit in with the 3.75 theme that I prefer.

I completely agree.  Scaled down and less expensive and I would buy them.

Yeah, I can't disagree, $14.99 is the MSRP but TRU has them for $16.99 and my local comic shop has them for $17.95 each, so not many good options out there.

I did cave and buy the B&W Rick Grimes variant and the exclusive B&W Walker/Lurker 2-pack today. (That last one is not available @ TRU BTW)

After looking them over again I just decided these are too cool to pass up. Detachable limbs? Removable organs? Face splitting action? Oh hell yes.

May try to see if I can pick up the rest on the cheap via eBay. I am actually more interested in the TV versions, but I guess those are the second wave slated for November.

Agree on 3.75", but partially because I'm just more into that range (1:18-ish).

I don't want to buy bigger figures really, so I just don't, even if it's material I'm all into.  You'd think more companies would pounce on that range though, since it is generally less moolah and obviously is able to pack a lot of detail and articulation, as well as accessories and such.

Picked the rest of these up recently around my birthday as I had some money to spend and the lure was just too strong.

Just snagged the NYCC Bloody Rick Grimes variant off TRU.com for $19.99 (free shipping). It's rare to find a con exclusive like that at an online retailer cheaper than it is going for on eBay.

Agreed, just because I love 1:18 stuff, I'd buy several of each figure... some for display, others for customs.  I think it's a shame they went with the bigger scale... they could have made them detailed like the Prince of Persia figures, and really had some awesome stuff.

Picked up both comic zombies yesterday at TRU, and almost pulled the trigger... but at this scale, I just can't do it.  It's a shame because if they were 3.75, I would buy 2-3 of each of those zombies...

Thanks to a tip from a friend, I found a few of the Walking Dead Series 2 figures at TRU this morning. Of course Daryl Dixon was sold out, so God knows how long it will take me to track that #$%^& thing down.

My buddy had stashed the B/W Grimes variant for me too but apparently not well enough as it was nowhere to be found when I got by there. So that's two out of five I still need.

None of the comic shops here have gotten their allotment yet.

Completed Wave 2 by picking up Daryl Dixon and the B/W Grimes variant at a local comic shop Friday. (yay) They were $3 more expensive than TRU...brutal.

You know something is overpriced when it is actually cheaper at a TRU.

Haven't heard whether there are any plans for a third series of these but they certainly have plenty of good figure options left to choose from if the decide to keep it going.

Freaking awesome! I am LOVING all these, although would have preferred Andrea over another Rick, but whateves.

You know that Well Zombie is gonna come apart at the torso with full gut splitting action!

There's also apparently a new Rick/Michonne Bloody/B&W 2-pack coming out.

This line kicks major ass.

I would have loved Andrea, or just about any other human, before another Rick. Hopefully there won't be a Rick in every wave... as cool a character as he is, it would get very tiresome very quickly.

I read that the guts will be soft/squishy, which is great. While the humans are kinda iffy in the line, McFarlane is absolutely nailing the zombies and including some mostly fun (the wind-up guy sucks) play features.

I picked up the new Bloody B&W Rick Grimes/Michonne 2-pack today at the local comic shop. I selected a particularly blood splattered version...another outstanding effort by MacFarlane.  :)

Can't wait for the next series of figures!

That's all the same gear the previous two versions have come with, actually.

I'm definitely down for one of these, guess I will have to pre-order someplace online. Love the new Adlard artwork.

If anyone sees/hears anything out of NYCC in regards to this line, can you please post here?

Things have been really dead (pun intended) for quite awhile now. They've had a long time to get that Shane wave ready too.

Seems like they would want these on shelves now with the show premier this weekend.

I believe Wave 2 should be out very, very soon. BBTS has "late October" as their shipping date. MTV Geek has a review of the wave, and it looks like a mixed bag. Rick seems like a letdown, as does the bicycle zombie. On the bright side, RV Zombie looks good, the well walker is disgusting looking, and surprisingly I like the look of Shane despite the figure being a mini-statue. Here are the reviews:

http://geek-news.mtv.com/2012/10/05/review-mcfarlane-the-walking-dead-series-2/

Also, here's series 3 if you haven't already seen it. I think these are due out in March 2013, and they are up for pre-order at EE and BBTS. All five figures look great (I'm aware they are prototypes, but the in-hand versions can't be too crappy, right?), and it looks like they are putting more articulation and less pre-posing into the human figures. The removable arms and jaws on the pet zombies are nice inclusions.

I managed to pick up remnants of Wave 2 yesterday, all three of the zombies, no Shane or Rick. There wasn't even a space on the shelves for them at TRU, they just threw them up next to the sports figures.

Still, I got them before EE, so that's something.

I saw the Wave 2 figures at TRU yesterday. They were still in their factory shipper on one of the overhead sections, so I had to cut the tape off to take a peek. I didn't buy any since I have a set in the mail, but it was nice to see them a bit early. The figures looked way better than Wave 1, but they are still far from perfect.

McMetal, if you want a Shane and/or Rick I'll be swinging by TRU on Friday and can probably pick them up for ya. Just let me know.

Thanks Greg, I will give it a couple of days and see how it goes. We have a nicer TRU that just opened that I am hoping will get these in this week. I asked at my local comic shop too and they indicated that the official release/ship date was 10/31, so hopefully we'll see more this week. I've never had a problem finding any of these in the past, so fingers crossed that continues to be the case.

I managed to find a fresh case of Wave 2 last week @ TRU and scored a minty Shane and Rick. So I'm all good on that wave now.

Even better, I finally won an ebay auction for the SDCC Michonne exclusive for $30, which was a great price.

Now I'm just waiting on them to release that B&W Zombie 3-pack...should be any day now.

I read some rumors about a month or so back of a second comic wave supposedly consisting of: Glen in Riot Gear, The Governor, one of Michonne's pet zombies, and the Governor's daughter... honestly I hope those rumors are false, as I would much prefer a couple of different zombies. Hopefully we will get some official news about another comic wave at Toy Fair in February.

Aw yeah, I scored the B&W Walker 3-pack tonight at TRU, but the $50 price tag was a tough pill to swallow.

Can't wait!

McFarlane officially announced wave 2 of the comic line of figures, and while there are no pics (Toy Fair perhaps?) they provided lots of juicy details:

Quote
GLENN
Glenn, an original Atlanta survivor, has become crucial to the survival of Rick’s group due to his ability and agility at getting in-and-out of zombie-infested areas in order to search for food and supplies. Glenn, in full riot gear, features 28 points of articulation and is equipped with two pistols, riot shield, baton, gas can, and removable helmet with flip-up visor.

THE GOVERNOR
Zombies are not the only threat to Rick and his band of survivors, the Governor is truly the first human antagonist that the group encounters within the comic series. The Governor features 28 points of articulation and includes a kitchen knife, pistol, and alternate mutilated head & right arm.

MICHONNE’S PET ZOMBIE
It’s not until Mike, Michonne's boyfriend, is bit by a zombie that Michonne discovers the true nature of the zombie epidemic. A bite is a death sentence! Michonne quickly realizes that Zombies don’t attack other Zombies and uses Mike as camouflage and protection against the hordes of the undead awaiting her in this new world. Michonne’s Pet Zombie features 17 points of articulation and includes a neck collar & chain, tear off arms & jaw, and push in/ pull out intestines.

PENNY, THE GOVERNOR’S DAUGHTER ZOMBIE
Nothing is stronger than a father daughter bond, as we see with The Governor and his daughter Penny. Infected early on with the zombie virus, Penny has been cared for and fed by her unconditionally loving father. Penny features 12 points of articulation and includes a bucket of fresh body parts (severed leg, severed foot, severed hand, intestines, heart and Rick’s severed hand) that the Governor feeds to her. Figure also includes a fish tank with trophy heads collected by her father. One of the heads can be used as an alternate head for Michonne’s Pet Zombie Mike, allowing you to build Michonne’s 2nd pet and Mike’s best friend, Terry.

BLOODY BLACK & WHITE THE GOVERNOR
WITH ZOMBIE DAUGHTER 2-PACK
Staying true to the comic, this blood-splattered black & white version of The Governor & Daughter Zombie is the perfect addition to any The Walking Dead collection. This box set still includes all the articulation and gory accessories included with the standard figures.

All of these gruesome The Walking Dead Comic Series 2 figures will be available this June. Hopefully the rest of your toy collection isn’t too squeamish, because some of these figures have a tendency to chew on body parts.

I'm excited to see these figures. They sound really great. I was a bit skeptical when I first heard Penny and one of Michonne's pets would be included, but the above descriptions definitely put my mind at ease. Including the fish tank with Penny is AWESOME! Glenn and the Governor should also be pretty cool.

This whole wave is comic-themed, they alternate between producing separate waves of figures based on the comic and the show. I tend to prefer the TV-based ones, but these newest versions look awesome as well.

Count me in for one of each, no question...thanks for posting the new pics!

Love this show!  One of my all time favs!

Plus just saw the new ad cards at mylocal comic shop for the next season "Eye for and eye"

I just got all th various collectors edition Blu Ray's for Xmas..been watching everthing from the start again.  While the extras are really good, I jus wis there were moreof them.  Plus, I'd love to see more of the comic series in the extras, maybe some exclusve comic book stuff, or digital copies of th originals, or a nice series showing the side by side comparisons of frames in the comic vs. the TV show...characters, places, zombies, etc. etc.

All good stuff!

My friend called me this morning to report he saw two cases of Wave 3 fresh off the truck at TRU this morning. He asked if I wanted him to stash any and I said not, don't worry about it. By the time I got by there this evening, there was one Michonne left.  :(

She looks great, but I had had to pick just one to find, it would have been Merle. This TRU is notoriously suck at restocking WD figures, so my best bet is probably the comic shop route now.

Glad to see they reduced the packaging with this wave, I am starting to get pressed on space for this line already.

Check out Gamestop if you have one around. I found Wave 3 at four local stores, and for only $13 per figure. Unfortunately they are only getting the Autopsy Zombie at 1 per case, but the rest of the figures are at least doubled up so you should be able to have a relatively easy time getting the other three.

Dude, thanks for this great suggestion!

We have like 20 Gamestops around here. The first one I hit up at lunch had all of Wave 3 in a display at the counter, and I was able to pick up everything I needed, and for a sweet $12.99 as you mentioned. =WINNING  ;D

I hope they continue to stock this stuff with future waves, maybe even some of the 2 and 3-packs.

Glad you found what you were looking for! One extremely helpful employee hooked me up with a list of what Gamestop will be offering toy-wise from now until late August, and unfortunately there is no more Walking Dead. Be prepared to go elsewhere (Barnes and Noble?) for the comic Wave 2 and any upcoming multipacks. Hopefully they will be back with Series 4 though.

This was #1 on my list of the remaining TV characters to be made. Good times.

Yep, Andrea is apart of Wave 4 which was announced back at Toy Fair. The other figures in the wave will be Carl, The Governor, and two Riot Gear zombies. Carl was actually on display as an early prototype sample, but the other four figures were merely pictured on a placard. It should be a solid wave though and I'm looking forward to it.

The Series 4 figures are looking good! I can't wait to see the final images of all seven figures. I am especially glad they are re-releasing Daryl. It's great for the people who don't have one (they shouldn't have to pay $200+), and also for those who hated the terrible paint job on the first. While improved paint won't help fix the terrible articulation, it should go a long way in making the face sculpt look good.

or not. My shop had NOTHING yesterday, what a letdown. Even worse, when I asked the guy if there was a revised ship date for the Comic Series Wave 2, he said "December 2013".

Come on, I don't even believe that. EE and BBTS still have these listed as July.

This line takes too fing long between waves I have decided. It's not like there are pegwarmers blocking the way either.

Score! Picked up all of the comic wave today over lunch at Gamestop. I saw last night that these had started popping up last week there so I am glad I was still able to find all the ones I needed. Riot Gear Glenn is the bomb.

Bummer that they raised the price to $14.99 each though.

The clerk also confirmed that they would be getting the Dixons 2-pack, ship date in about 2 months.

I saw the new comic series at TRU last week and they looked pretty good. Riot gear Glen was the best, the Gov/Penny were cool and I liked how the one Pet Walker had interchangeable parts from the extras in Penny's set so you if you bought TWO pet walkers you could use the extra head in Penny's set to make the other one of Michonne's pets. I think they're named Terry and Mike or something like that.
Now if/when the latest TV series figs comes out, I"m gonna HAVE to get me a Maggie ;)

It looks like we will get to enjoy an exclusive Rick Grimes figure this October in addition to the fine TV Series 4 and Dixon Brother 2-pack.

http://www.spawn.com/toys/product.aspx?product=4767

The figure looks to be a pretty simple (possibly boring?) retool: the Series 1 head on the Series 2 body. It doesn't even look like the paint apps have been changed. I can't complain too much because something slightly new is better than a straight repack or repaint, and it's a smart move by McFarlane to get Rick back out on shelves. The crappy part is that the figure is a Hastings and Walgreens (WTF?) exclusive.

Hey man, good timing - I found this today! I can def pick up an extra if you'd like. PM me and we can work out the details.

It's a pretty sweet variant, I think mine was about $13.68 total.

The first store I checked had two on the pegs - did not see any of Series 4 but I can hit a bunch more tomorrow and report back.

I picked up almost all of TV Series 4 at Walgreen's today after work! The only one missing was Andrea.  :(

They had about 3 Carls and I was able to get one with crisp paint apps but the Gov could have been a little sharper around the hairline. They only had 1 of him and the zombies so I couldn't be choosy.

The Riot Gear Zombies are freaking excellent. I could see army building those guys even.

Seems pretty hit or miss as far as finding these though, I only saw them at 1 Walgreen's today out of 5 that I checked. (Yeah, we have a lot of those here) There are 3 more close to work I can check out tomorrow though so we'll see. Fingers crossed I can find Andrea and knock this wave out completely.

Be sure to look along the end caps throughout the store and on the top shelves as well. On Sunday I found a display case on the top shelf of the toy aisle, and last night I almost walked empty-handed out of a store that had a full display case of 12 figures near the front checkouts. It was just luck that I looked down as I was passing the display. And both of these stores had at least 1 Rick on a peg in the toy aisle that had been there for a few days.

Just got back from TRU where I was able to score the new Dixon Brothers 2-pack hot off the truck. Price was $29.99, but I will likely just return it when my local comic shop gets these as they are usually cheaper. They also had the latest TV Series on the pegs (Andrea, Carl, etc) for something crazy like $15.99 I think?

Super psyched to have scored this right before Sunday's premiere!

Just watched the premiere today - I thought it was pretty "meh".

Anyway, I went to Walgreens today to pick up a prescription and I saw these figures were being sold there and the normal price on them was $13.50 which I thought was pretty good.  Then I saw they had them on sale for $9.99 until the 26th - so that is pretty sweet.  Too bad they still aren't cool enough for me to jump in on them.  I guess I just don't like the McFarlane style (especially their articulation) or the scale.

They had the entire Andrea wave at my local store

Totally missed your post McMetal. Negan looks great and it's nice that they are offering another comic character! It's definitely an awesome Black Friday special, but it sucks it isn't more of a deal. I was spoiled by those $10 Series 4 figures this fall. The real killer on the deal might be shipping. I remember back in July when the SDCC Governor was for sale, shipping was only offered $13 or so for a single figure. Hopefully they will have cheaper (or free!) shipping options this time around.

I just bought both of the new Negans - colored and B&W variant, priority USPS shipping for both came to $12. Since this is a new sort of promotion with no alternate retail outlet and a possibly limited run, I didn't want to take a chance and miss out. (Like I did on the Hobbit Azog and Radagast figures that were up on Amazon, still ruing that one)

I didn't spend a dime otherwise on Black Thursday Night so what the hell.

I grabbed a couple of the full color version. I'm anal about paint apps, so I wanted to have a choice. I noticed there was a First Class shipping option for one figure which cost only $2.32, so I placed two separate orders. Shipping on the Skybound/TWD site is totally stupid.

Well-played, Greg. I only had the priority shipping option available but did not think to try placing them as 2 separate orders. I could have saved about $8 right there, rats.

Curious how long these will last before selling out, they were going strong as of today...

I got my Negans yesterday, and they ROCK! What a great figure!

Also, I have to say this was the most well-packed online order I have ever received. Each figure was wrapped carefully in bubble wrap and taped shut, and then both were surrounded by an outer layer of heavy duty bubble wrap to secure them in place inside a perfectly sized box that did not allow for excess movement.

Kudos to Skybound for the great job!

I got my Negans yesterday as well with the same great packing job. Almost a shame I'm an opener. The figure itself is great, and fairly bulky. The only thing I don't like is the gummy plastic used for Lucille.

Today I got the 10-inch Daryl Dixon in the mail. The figure looks fantastic, but the lack of articulation kills it for me. I'm not 100% sure if I'll be keeping Daryl, but I may still pick up other figures in this size/format. Zombies would definitely benefit from the extra detail allowed by the increased size.

Be careful - I have had mixed success with McFarlane stuff - I grabbed the Dixon brothers 2-pack at Toys R Us and the wrist on the right hand of the Daryl figure was completely disassembled. Luckily since I got it at a brick-and-mortar store, I was able to return it, but you'd have to deal with return shipping from Amazon.

yeah, I don't collect these because I don't like the way their articulation even looks - fragile.  Also I don't care for the scale.

but I thought I would through out the deal for those looking - looked like one of the riot gear zombies was super cheap if people want to army build it

I picked up the 10" Daryll action figure at my local comic store today. What a kick ass figure! The likeness is a vast improvement over the smaller scale counterpart, IMO.

I do not have room for a lot of these, and they would be pricey, so part of me kind of hopes they don't do too many more, but this one was impossible to resist.

Also saw they announced the next comic wave today: Rick (one-handed), Andrea, Dwight, and Punk Rock Zombie. Good stuff.

Hot damn! I found TV Glenn tonight at Walgreen's! I swung by there around 9:30pm and the girl at the counter said she had just put them out. They only had 2 Glenns though and no others from the wave. I'm glad I got to choose because one was only so-so in the face but the other one was absolutely spot-on amazing. Best likeness capture yet, IMO.

I checked 2 other stores while I was out but they both only had stuff from the last wave still.

It's only a matter of time now though...happy hunting!

Maggie and Glenn are both part of the same wave - Series 5.  ;)

ToyWiz also has a new pre-listing up for Series 6, check this out:

Rick Grimes
Hershel Greene
Carol Peletier
Abraham Ford
Bungie Guts Zombie

Somewhat surpised to see Abraham on the list since he hasn't even been introduced on the show yet. Great to see Carol and Hershel on there though, was worried we might never see them.

They also mentioned a 10" Rick figure for October I believe.

 :) :) :)

That list for Series 6 sounds almost too good to be true. I wouldn't complain if it ends up being real though. Hershel and Abraham in the same wave would be killer.

As for 10" Rick... I might have to pass on that. I just opened the Daryl figure this evening, and I must say I am extremely disappointed. It was extremely difficult to get the crossbow and poncho into place on the figure, and I have trouble keeping it balanced (possibly due to the poncho). I expected easier display from an unarticulated figure.

Single Glenn at Walgreens by me. Do they only get partial cases?
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: iFett on January 23, 2014, 11:38 AM
Partial cases.  They're (I think) the only retailer still carrying GI Joes and distribution centers just throw a couple/few to each store.  Same with about 9 years ago some PVC tranformer line could only get there and was soooo difficult to track the line down, but there are lots and lots of Walgreens.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: McMetal on January 23, 2014, 10:18 PM
Well, it's an odd deal to be sure. While it's true that Walgreen's does split up cases among stores, the ONLY figure to have shown up so far is Glenn, and always in a pair or pairs. This is how the exclusive Rick showed up at first too, and then later they got a larger selection at each store. But Glenn is not an exclusive figure so hard to say why he is the only one shipping so far.

I do expect the others will show up before too long.

Greg, that's a bummer to hear about the 10" Daryll. I still have mine in the package and constantly debate opening him. Maybe he is better off where he is though.

Heads-up McMetal! I spotted TWD Wave 5 at my local TRU this morning for $16 apiece. They looked great and I was tempted to get a few figures now, but I'll wait for my online pre-order to ship.

That's so awesome...at the exact time you were posting this I was walking out with Tyreese and Maggie from my local TRU!  ;D Both the walkers were gone, but I was super happy just to have found both of the ones I did. (Weird though because this place usually gets trucks on Thursday and they had nothing new yesterday...wished I checked back today earlier I guess)

And then earlier this evening I found another Maggie at Walgreens, where I had originally found my first Glenn. She had better paint apps and was only $13.50 so I grabbed her and will just exchange the other at TRU.

The hunt is on for Walker Merle and Charred Walker!

Anything new shown off at TF? Maybe the next comic wave or at least some nice up close shots of Daryll and motorcycle? I checked AFI but they didn't have anything up as of late last night...

Picked up Zombie Merle and the Charred Walker to complete my Series 5 scores.  ;D

I was surprised to find these at TRU on an off-truck today, wondering if someone had stashed them or what.

I love both figures, they used a cool translucent orange plastic for the charred walker that gives him an eerie gooey appearance. Merle has one atrocious looking elbow joint on the his non-bayonet hand though, yikes.

I think I have a problem:
Passed on these for sooooo long. Which sucks now because I have held wave one in my hands numerous times year or two back when they first came out. Anyway finally caved on the Walgreens Rick a few months back. Then wanted Maggie, but found Glenn first. Then got Maggie. Then bought comic Governor. Then remembered the sports card shop by me had some WD stuff so stopped there and bought Tyreese, wave 3 Michonne and wave 2 Shane all for $13.95 a piece which is an awesome deal for Michonne and Shane. Then stopped into TRU with my 15% coupon and bought the lone Daryl/Merle 2 pack they had. And had to buy a Bicycle Girl off ebay. Good God. My wife is going to kill me.

So what's the problem? ;D You definitely snagged great deals for Michonne and Shane. As long as you don't go full-on completist this line won't be too painful on the wallet. Most of the 2013 figures are relatively cheap, and McFarlane's trend seems to be releasing 3 waves per year which is pretty light. The early figures, exclusives, and variants are where the line gets pricey.

Oh, shameless plug: if you want some cheap Wave 4 figures ($10 a pop) let me know. I have some extras I want gone.  :)

Yeah, it's a pretty manageable line, especially if you just stick with the TV figures. I sort of wish I had done that, I still flirt with the idea of dumping all my comic figures but so far it hasn't come to that yet.

Was surprised and delighted to find the Deluxe Set with Daryl and Motorcycle on the shelves today at my local TRU, hot off the truck. Figured this would be hitting soon but assumed I would read about someone finding it over at 'scum first. They had two out so I grabbed the one that had the best paint apps and was happy to have it, even for the $35 price tag, ouch.

The Daryl sculpt looks much improved over earlier versions. Happy hunting!

I saw a bunch of the newest wave at a comic convention today for $14.99 each, which is pretty terrific for con pricing. They also had the Daryl and motorcycle set for $40. Our TRU never re-stocked that item after they sold the initial case weeks ago.

Skybound SDCC exclusive will be Ezekiel!

Guess they are doing color and B&W versions ala Negan.

I kinda wish they would get off the comic figs and do an TV-based exclusive, but I guess that is a licensing deal.

At least this one should not be too difficult or pricey to obtain. I have always had good luck picking up their exclusives in the past.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Greg on July 1, 2014, 10:06 PM
The Ezekiel figure looks good. Hopefully it will be easy to acquire like the Negan figure.

I can't say I mind getting more comic figures as exclusives since we have only been getting one wave of mass retail figures each year, but I also feel that the exclusive route would be the only way for minor TV characters like T-Dog or Martinez to get made. It probably is a licensing issue though as Skybound is providing the exclusive, not AMC.

McFarlane announces Walking Dead brick building sets...

Quote
TEMPE, Ariz., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Famed artist and award-winning toy designer Todd McFarlane and McFarlane Toys are unveiling a revolutionary evolution in brick building toys based on television's most watched drama, AMC's The Walking Dead. Known as a game-changer for its realistic action figures, including those based on The Walking Dead, McFarlane Toys is adding a new licensed category to the company's portfolio. The new The Walking Dead toys will extend McFarlane's high standards of artistic vision, realistic accuracy and incredible detail into the brick building toy aisle alongside of other leading manufacturers. McFarlane Toys' The Walking Dead building sets and figures will be available this fall only at Toys"R"Us stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com

McFarlane Toys Unveils Revolutionary Brick Building Sets for AMC’s The Walking Dead

The initial McFarlane Toys' The Walking Dead brick building line will feature realistic sculpts, light-up and shaped features, iconic environments, and dozens of your fan-favorite characters and walkers. Both collectors and fans of the cult phenomenon can literally recreate their favorite scenes with this new highly detailed and realistic The Walking Dead product line.

"Twenty years ago I walked into the action figure aisle, saw an artistic void, and asked, can these toys look cooler? The answer was yes, they could, and I've survived twenty years next to the big boys creating those artistic toys," said McFarlane. "Now I'm walking into another aisle with that same question, and the answer is still yes!"

"Will these be the best building sets out there? I'll leave it up to the consumer to decide," said McFarlane. "But, will it look cooler? Yes. Will it be more detailed? Absolutely. Will it be more realistic? I guarantee it!"

The Walking Dead series one product line will feature building sets, expansion packs, and figure blind bags for consumers to build their own The Walking Dead apocalypse:

The Building Sets: MSRP $9.99-64.99 – Daryl Dixon with Chopper, The Governor's Room, and Prison Tower with Gate. Expand your brick building apocalypse with additional figure and accessory packs.

Blind Bag Figures: MSRP $2.99 – Daryl Dixon, Michonne, The Governor, Carl Grimes, Riot Gear Walker, Michonne's Pet Walker, and Herd Walkers.

I'm not so sure about this concept, but I plan to pick up a few blind bagged figures and maybe a smaller set to test the line. The images immediately made me think of gaming miniatures and Christmas village scenes... not sure if that's a good reaction. On the plus side this should be a great way to build a massive zombie horde without breaking the budget or taking over the entire display space.

So THIS is the new scaled WD toy they have been hinting at...are these more like the 2" GOTG figures?

The environments look cool, but I'm not sold on the concept either. I guess it's more like hyper realistic Legos?

Not sure if I have the space or $$$ to jump in on these, but it's an intriguing concept...I applaud them for trying something new at least.

I was surprised and excited to find the Shane with Baseball Cap TV redux figure today at my local comic shop. No other figures, just him, but I was able to pick from 4 so I got one with nice paint apps.

I have no idea what sort of traditional stores might carry these...Walgreen's maybe?

Glad to have this though, I basically decided last night that I am only going to focus on the TV figures going forward, so this seems like a nice unspoken validation of that choice. (Collector logic)

Happy hunting!

No more comic figures? Whhaaaaa? Hopefully you'll quit them after Wave 3 at least. Those figures look spectacular!

As for my recent TWD purchase, I got the SDCC figure... from 2012! I snagged the bloody Michonne with Cloak in a damaged package on eBay for a measly $15. The bubble was crushed and falling off the card, so it was perfect for me as a loose collector. I didn't want to pay the going rates for it as it wasn't "different enough", but for $15 it was a solid purchase. The cloak is a great accessory!

I should have the new Shane figure coming in the mail next week. I can't say I'm terribly excited to add it to the collection, but it's another "different enough" figure that will fit right in.

Apparently there are 3 figures being found at Walgreen's right now as part of a "flashback" wave containing Daryl, Michonne and the RV zombie. I have seen varying reports whether these are just recards of the previously released versions or actual variants. I would love to have a chance to compare up close, but they haven't made their way here yet. My buddy in FL picked up all 3 a couple of weeks ago though.

I picked up all 3 "flashback" figures from Walgreen's today, first time I have seen them here. Daryl is the version from the motorcycle deluxe set, which had not been released single carded before. Michonne comes with new accessories, a walker-quarium with 2 pet heads. The RV Zombie appears to be more or less the same as the previous version.

Would be nice to see the next TV wave hit soon...

LOL, sorry I did drop the ball on that one...chalk it up to my lack of comic focus now. Did you get the color or B&W version?

I picked up the Daryl and Chopper builder set and a 5 figure "starter pack" from TRU yesterday. They had the Governor set too but I didn't want to go all out as I am still sort of undecided on these. Sitting here looking at them right now, they are definitely well done, but will also take up significant stuff to display properly...

I went color. I like the b&w stuff matching the comic look, but in the long run, fitting in with everything else, etc., I went color. My Negan is color too.

I like the pictures I've seen of the Building Sets, but am confident I will stay away from them.

The figures look really nice though! They have a great amount of detail and the paint apps are surprisingly good. They're even poseable/articulated. I really appreciate the extra effort put in here, doubt I would feel the same about something simpler and more stylized.

IMHO, these things are light years better than those cruddy Command SW toys, for instance.
Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Jesse James on November 12, 2014, 09:05 PM
But the point I was bringing up is, they do THOSE figures then do them in a set that in all essence a Lego...  And Lego's format works as it is.  Megablocks mimics it with something I think is more collector-oriented, but Lego is Lego and it works.  A figure that can interact in a lot of ways with the set.  With these, those figures interact one way, and that's it.  It just doesn't make sense.

Like why not just make a scene, and release these figures in those?  They may have articulation points, but they're anything but poseable...  Face it, any articulation they have is pretty much rendered moot.  They're as poseable as a 2002 Star Wars figure was, more or less.  The Governor doesn't look right in anything but his lazy boy recliner for instance.  Rick looks right shooting, but not much else.  Darryl looks right on the chopper and that's it.

If you want nice figures, just buy the 6" line ya know?  They're real figures, poseable, hyper detailed...  The playsets are neat, but what's the point of making it a "Lego" if you're not going to make it something you can really play with, set up differently, and have figures interact with it in ways besides a specific pose?  It's like this is trying real hard to be a detailed McFarlane figure in the realm of a Lego set which doesn't strive for hyper accuracy as much as playability generally.

There was a similar thing with the original LOTR line, and it bombed miserably.  Again, had they been basically TWD Mini-figures ala a Lego or Mega Blocks figure, or a Kreo type figure even (Mega Blocks would be my personal choice, as I think they've done amazing things with HALO, COD, etc.), I'd be all in on these I think.

Hell, Megablocks is even doing Zombies better!  Army builder packs, scenes of dilapidated buildings and things, all from COD's bonus game.

These are trying to be two different things it seems, and it doesn't work right I guess.  I love the TWD 6" line's looks, but I'd have bought into a TWD collectible block figure line of sets and figures, especially if they were a little better/less cute than a Lego figure I guess.  I'm always tempted to get a little pack of COD zombies when I pass them, just because I want a little hoard of zombies on my desk. :)

Yes, been a lot of grousing about that poll aroumnd the internets. When it first went up you could vote as many times as you wanted, and from day to day there would be wild swings in the first place candidate. Just rife with impropriety. They eventually took it off line and tried to clean the thing up a little, but it still seems dubious.

At any rate, I voted for Beth and it looks like she and Lori are the top vote getters. That makes sense because it would be a real long shot to get any of these characters made otherwise going forward. (T-Dog would be nice too, but not as good as Beth. Lori would just be straight up boring. Did she ever even kill a walker? Never liked the actress or her character, so this is not one I am pining for)

Oh, and they also announced a slew of new TV Series and Comic Series figures recently. Dale Horvath (at last!) was confirmed too! Also they have another flashback wave in the works with Plaid Shirt Rick, Flu Walker, and Bandanna Grave-Digging Daryl.  ;D

Man I'm so bummed T-Dog won't be winning that poll. Talk about a character deserving of a figure... if he hadn't saved Carol, the show would have ended at Terminus! ;D

The Flashback figures have me very excited, especially that Flu Walker. I would love to see more "generic" zombies made in a similar manner with retooled human bodies.

I picked up Carl tonight thanks to the Find In Store feature on Gamestop's website. Man, if Target and TRU had inventory updates that accurate on their websites it would change my freaking life.

Toss-up between the can of pudding and the can of Cheez Whiz for Best Accessory of this wave.  ;D

Realize I am probably the only one who cares, but I found Series 2 of the Building Set figures today at Gamestop. There are 8 total in this wave, two humans (Rick and Tyreese) and a bunch of cool zombies, including Merle. Hopefully this means the slew of cool new Building Sets they showed off at Toy Fair will be arriving soon.

Grabbed a comic series gun shot wound Carl at TRU today.

All 3: Pre gun shot. Bandaged post gun shot. And best of all post gun shot gaping wound.

Nice! I had heard those were hitting.

I picked up the 10" Survival Edition Daryl last week at Books A Million.

McMetal, what are the Walking Dead exclusives? Thanks

The current one is the exclusive "Deputy Rick Grimes" kitbash, and the exclusive "Flu Hero Daryl" figure should be showing up soon based on that I heard coming out of SDCC.

The black Ant Man figure was on a separate display away from the toy aisle up front, maybe the WD stuff is tucked away someplace too?

Hi McMetal.

Did you pick up the Building Set of Dale's RV?

Hi McMetal.

Did you pick up the Building Set of Dale's RV? I am tempted, but telling myself I need that money for the 4th............

You know, I was going to but held off initially when I saw it at Walmart for $50. Then by the time I got around to picking it up, I suddenly couldn't find any at ANY Walmart around here. Very odd. I have no interest in paying $10 more for this at TRU either, so it is on the back burner for now.

I did find the brand new Upper and Lower Prison Cells at Walmart last week and bought both of those. They are excellent. I have heard the Boiler Room set is out also but have yet to see that anywhere.

Also, on a slightly different note, I am seeing multiple reports of people finding the Walgreens exclusive Deputy Rick @ Walmart of all places. I have looked all over and only found 1 store that even carried WD figures but they only had the Daryl and Chopper Sets and the last TV wave. I'm going nuts trying to find that stupid thing...it's the only WD figure I've never seen at a store. (yet)

Just an FYI I've seen the RV at some of the Targets around me for $50

Thanks for the tip! I actually found the RV set at a local a Target tonight, along with the Boiler Room set. I ended up only buying the latter, but will definitely be going back for the RV soon.

Picked up Dale's RV from Target Friday night and finished putting it together last night. Fun build. I really need a better space to display these things though.

Still can't find the Walgreens exclusive Deputy Rick figure either.  >:(

Amidst all the hustle and bustle of MM, one of the surprising bright spots for me was finding the oh-so elusive Deputy Rick exclusive at Walmart, finally.

So happy I held out and did not resort to the secondary market. The collection is now complete again.  ;D

I found the exclusive Grave Digger Daryl figure at Walgreens this morning. I had heard he was making his way east, so I'm glad I made the effort to get out. Very nice figure!

Picked up the Prison Catwalk set and a bunch of brand new Series 3 blind bags @ TRU last night. Psyched!

Aw yeah! TV Series 8 in da house!!  ;D

Picked up Rick, Bob, Dale, and Morgan @ TRU over lunch today. No sign of Eugene - I have heard there are case assortments with and without him though so maybe he's more of a "chase" figure at this point.  The other 4 look outstanding though, really the best they have done yet, IMO. Great paint apps, great sculpts.

Also snagged the Deluxe Morgan versus Walker Boxed Set or whatever...$29.99, good stuff in there too.

Great toy day overall today!

A trip to the crosstown TRU paid off and I was lucky enough to find a lone Eugene on the pegs. Hell yeah!

I'm good now til terminus Carol and bloody Tyreese exclusives come out...

I love getting new figures right before the TV season launches!

Picked up the Woodbury Assault Vehicle building set on Friday.  :)

Also read that the exclusive Tyreese figure is starting to hit now at Target. Definitely need to keep an eye out for that!

After quite a bit of cyber and in person stalking, I was finally able to snag the GameStop Exclusive Carol today. What a great figure...amazing likeness too.

Still on the hunt for Tyreese...

I got the Daryl/Merle walker arena building set Friday at a local comic shop. Still no sign of the Hospital Doors set though. I did spy a bunch of the new GoT sets at TRU the other day but had to just walk away.

That Target exclusive Tyreese figure is starting to piss me off too. Our local stores suck.

Looks like all the WD building sets have gone on clearance at Target and Walmart. I picked up a few more prison cells for $6.48, and Dale's RV for an astounding $14.98!

Looking forward to starting a cool diorama with all these next this year.

Yeah, it's a kick in the pants for sure, especially with Walgreens and Gamestop clearancing them out and seemingly unlikely to carry this last wave. I ordered a set online and used some rewards points but it was still a lot.

I've been complaining elsewhere but I'll throw it out here too: I think it SUCKS that McF is dropping the 5" TV series line. After all this time you suddenly decide to switch scales? For a bunch of unarticulated statues? NO THANKS.

I didn't even know that. That does suck. Are we talking 5 POA like the Star Wars stuff or literally statues?

I think they have some very limited articulation, but nowhere near the level they do now.

I received my Wave 9 figures from TRU.com yesterday, fantastic effort all around. At least they went out with a bang.

FYI, some of these guys are starting to show up at ROSS (Dress for Less Success) if you need 'em. I picked up a Flu Walker for $5.99 yesterday. Not quite as good as the $5 Gamestop clearance from awhile back, but not too shabby.

Just in time for the season premiere, I finally found the new Daryl & Motorcycle 5" set at TRU today. Man it seems like forever ago that they first showed this off. It was supposed to be the very last TV style 5" toy until they announced Aaron and Constable Rick-io. Can't wait for those guys!

Found some Woodbury Ricks @ ROSS today for the low, low price of $3.99. I think that's the cheapest I've ever seen for this line. Had to pick up a couple at that price.

Also been seeing a few of the building sets popping up randomly at Ross, Tuesday Morning, etc. I grabbed another Governors Room set for $13.   ;D

Walgreens exclusive Constable Rick and Aaron should be hitting any day now...

For sure, but not having Negan as a TV figure was just such a glaring omission, I'm just relieved they will finally make one. And Sasha too for that matter. Glad to get anything out of this line really.

McFarlane and Skybound announced a cool GI JOE-themed SDCC Exclusive 4 pk ("SHIVA FORCE") with alternately attired/colored comic style figs. (Rick, Michonne. Ezekiel and the Tiger)

I sure hope they do a TV style Ezekiel/Tiger 2-pk. That would be awesome!

Wow, hard to believe it's been seven months since posting in this thread, time to dust this sucker off.

I unexpectedly came upon the long lost 5" Negan at Walgreens after work today. Looks really good too, thus was a welcome surprise. Was supposed to be out last Fall, have seen a few pop up on eBay but there's never been any definitive word from McFarlane one way or the other.

I ended up buying the MIA 3-pack with Rick, Daryl and Michonne off eBay because like Negan, this never showed up in any stores around here, even though it was supposed to be a Walmart exclusive. Then about a month later I actually saw one at a Walmart. Tough line to collect now.

Picked up the Walking Dead Allies 3-Pack at 2nd and Charles today at lunch. Thinking this may be the final release in the TV series 5" line. Jesus was originally supposed to be a Walgreens exclusive, then got converted into this 3-pack, which was supposed to be out months ago. Definitely going out with a whimper. Happy I was able to complete the whole thing though.
