Title: Rise of the Empire carries on!
Post by: Outrider on May 6, 2006, 06:26 PM
I'm NOT through with my Rise of the Empire series by a long shot but I thought I'd mixthings up a little bit with some WIP clone commandos that I'm working on.  NONE of these dudes are finished yet but they're getting close.  They all need decals, and finish detail painting and weathering.  I hope that you enjoy this update of commandos.  I'm having lots of fun making htem.

This first series of pics details the weapon and pack of commando #2.  This figure is named Domi (after my middle name Dominic)  He's really into rockets and he carries a barrage of interchangeable rockets for his modified weapon.  These rockets are all tot ally interchangeale between the rifle and the pack storage area.  I hope that you like this but let me know what you think.

The second set of pics details a grappling hook fitting for Clone #3's rifle.  His name is Tambo...those of you who know me may understand this reference.  This grappling hook attatchment was very difficult.  I wa able to make it so that the line actually rolls off of the spool and throught the hollowed out barrell.  It can wind back up onto the spool by simply rolling the spool in reverse.  Please let me know your thoughts and feedback about this as well.

Here is the #4 commando of the group.  Obviously he's not painted yet but he's at least under way.  His name's LLEO.  I'm not sure what his specialty gear will be just yet but I'll come up with something.  Anyway here's the very early WIP pic of him

O.K. here's the special ops commando within the special ops team.  This dude has a plasma torch to cut through any obstacles in their way.  Also I armed him with a Fett style rocket pack.  What the heck right?  Tell me what you think about the crew so far.  Thanks...

O.K. here's the second member ofthe Republic team nearly complete.  They will all get custom unit decals at the end and so forth but you'll get overall idea of what this crew will look like.  This is #2 of 4.  Please not that the stripes while similar are not exactly the same.  I figure that this is a way that others can identify them.  Let me know what you think

Here's a proposed Republic Commando design basically finished except for detailing the clone head and some more weathering.  This is sort of a break away from many other commando's that I've seen so hopefully it will be a hit with DA.  By the way Steve, if you don't like it I'm totally cool with it.  Let me know and we'll do something else nor prob...Let me know what y'all think of it.

Here's 'n update with a sort of radical paint scheme I was thinking about.  Tell me what you guys think.  Obviously there's a whole load of strap, holsters, gear etc to add but this is the base paint figure minus gear.  Accessories will be either black or grey-to be determined

Here's a few pics of a Republic Commando side project that I'm working on.  These are NOT part of the ROTE line but I'm sure that they were busy at the time of order 66.  I'd like to do some customized gear and here's some pics of the early weapons and gear.

Hello all,
I'm new to this customs forum but I've been around customizing for a while.  I'd like to thank all of you from various other sites for inviting me here to share my custom figures with all of you.   I'm known as slave1jango at rebelscum, legolas77 at thejawa.com, and outrider at my home site galacticarchives.com

Here's a figure that I recently made for a series of figures that I've been working on for a few months.  The figure series is known as Rise of the Empire and its set a between ROTS and ANH.

First up is Imperial trooper.

I've seen your work over at Scum, and was wondering when you'd pop over here. I think all of your work is great, you're especially good at the camoflaug on some of your work. Can't wait to see what you'll do next

Let me be the first second to welcome you here!

That really is a nice looking Custom. It tool me a second to figure out what head that was. You disguise Antillies very nicely. The homemade holster looks great too. And the part choice is excellent, it is nice to see a little variation from any one particular imperial body we have been given. I do have one suggestion, which really doesn't even have to do with the custom, and that is to give him an E-11 as opposed to the Rebel blaster he has.

I look forward to seeing you around the boards!

Thanks so much for the welcome.  Its great to be here.  I can't help myself...I prefer the rebel blaster to the imperial verison.  Its true- it should be the E11 but I tried to sneak my preferred blaster in there.  When his new helmet arrives I'll take pics with the correct blaster! ;D

Thanks again for the warm welcome everybody

Welcome aboard!  I think you'll find the JD crew quite the good customizing family.  Your imperial looks tremendous.  I like what you've done with that head repaint.

I'd like to post more pics of other custom figures.  Is it better to make a single thread for all of my customs or to post individual threads for each custom figure?  I'd like to conform to policy so any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks
Title: Re: New to this site

There's no realy policy but most peole have their own thread just becasue it is nice to see all of someone's work in one location.

Ozzel was the type of Officer who excelled academically but when in the field never lived up to his academic prowess. Known for his brutal treatment of new recruit officer candidates, Ozzel was known to carry a sidearm at all times out of fear. Carida was the planet where all new Imperial recruits were sent to master the art of war. Ozzel loved the posh lifestyle that came from being an Imperial training officer. However the Navy of the galactic Empire had other plans for him. The rebellion against the Empire was growing more powerful every year. The Navy needed all available personnel to combat the growing threat. Ozzel was assigned to the Fleet and brought his bullying tactics to the harsh real world where he proved to be an everage line Officer but attained the rank of admiral due to time in service promoting

Here's the first figure in a custom series that I call:  Rise of the Empire.  Major Veers.  THis figure was inspired by events that take place 0-3 years after ROTS.  Major Veers is in urban Camo for combat on the Twi'lek home world of Ryloth.

Please let me know what you think good, bad or indifferent.  Thanks for looking.

I like all these customs very much, they are fresh and unique. They have a certain "national socialist" look and feel to them ( :o ) , the uniforms looks awesome there is no denying that. Great use of fabrics and leathers to pull of this batch of customs.

As I said, I have loved everyone of your customs, especially the Han. Do you use the covers on those cheap binders for your holsters?

NO but thanks for that tip.  I've never thought of that as a material so thanks.  I use my sons old roloe play power ranger uniform, same type of material.  Dont tell them though :P

lol, yeah its the same vinyl stuff your using, only thing is you just gotta peal it of of the binders, its the ones with the cardboard on the inside, and the vinyl stuff covering it.
They cost like 99 cents, and the trim of the binder works good for the body suit around a persons neck.

I've seen your work at scum before, welcome to this place too, your work is outstanding.  Such great details!

I really like the detention block officer - so professional - what head did you use for it?

And the Han is just amazing.  What a great design and execution - that figure at retail would sell like crazy.  I'd buy a dozen!

I try to stay away from OTC figures, but your designs and paint work would make it very hard, when confronted at retail. An excellent job. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hey Outrider, nice work man and welcome aboard to JediDefender.com...  it's nice to see you post over here.

I like your Rise of the Empire series...  While I don't necesarilly agree with the "style" being true to my impressions of the films, I think they're still outstanding customs.  Good parts mixing, great painting, excellent accessory improvising...  You really excel at a variety of aspects of customizing, not just one or two...  That's some serious talent going.  Even the ability to hollow out hats/helmets and things seems to be a skill you've mastered.

One of the ones I find most interesting is the Detention Officer you made using Capt. Antilles' head.  That is a great paintjob, very realistic, and it completely obscured the head for me...  I had absolutely no clue and thought it was a GI Joe head actually.

What's your method for making web gear and Y-harnesses and such for your troops?  What's the material?  Is it removable on all of them like the belt/holster on a few figures, or are some of them glued down?  I like that a lot and it's something I always consider improvising into my figures...  It's very "in-scale" and realistic too, not bulky or oversized, so you really have a unique look with those accessories there.

The painting to de-age characters like Ozzel is really nicely done.  Simple, but effective...  Also the camo's are really detailed.  I see modern camo patterns mixed in with WW2 German Pea-dot and things...  I see a sort of base in military history on your customs.  Is that what you go for?  Like Ozzel's mustard pants, black top, and of course the striking armband...  Definitely Nazi undertones in that uniform's paint design.

Very nice work man...  Looks really cool, and I'm glad you're here at JD.  Feel free to branch out into the rest of the forums and look around man, join in.

Hey man! Nice to see you here. It's kind of weird calling you by your different handles, though, so I'm gonna keep using "s1j" if ya don't mind, lol. I'm digging the new officer alot. You're going to have to make a tutorial on how to make those little faux leather holsters!

I seem to remember the name but I dont get over to the Scum very often anymore.

Your work is excellent though. I'm really liking the Rise of the Empire series youve got here. The camo peices are top notch. My favorite of the bunch is the cadet Solo. I recognise some of the parts, but where did that torso come from? I'd like to make one of these myself.

Excellent work, I look forward to seeing more of these. Welcome aboard.

To all,

Guys, (and gals if applicable) I'm totally blown away by your kind comments.  Thanks so much for the worm reception and positive feedback.  I'm thrilled to be here.  I've heard so many great things about this site and I can honestly say that they're all true.

I'll try to answer all of your questions so here it goes,

Jesse James -

you asked about the harnesses and belts that I make for the figures.   Basically I cut thin ribbons of my sons old Power Rangers costume into 3/16 inch strips.  The material is similar to vinyl -basically Halloween custume sheet plastic.  Its very rugged, cuts very well, and paints flawlessly.

The y harness is nothing more than a staple bent into a triangle with strips of that vinyl material carefully folded and secured to the staple surface.  Its a bit tricky and ya can't rush this.  I paint all of the straps brown first, both sides.  Then I sharpie both sides black, then paint them black with HOBBY SCALE brand acrylic paint.  Its available at most hobby stores like RC truck and model making shops etc.  That paint lays down better than any other brand that I've ever used.

The holster and belt system ar that vinyl material as well with another staple bent into a "D" or "O" shape with a small notch left open to allow the 2 ends to connect.  I have posted a tutorial about this process at my own site and also at thejawa.com.  I invite all of you to visit the sites and try it out.  PLEASE try to improve, elaborate, and basically put my patterns to shame.  I'd love to somebody to create a superior version and share it with us all.

I pretty much make the harness systems permanent and the holsters and belts removable.  I like the idea of making 1 custom figure but giving him several play values.  Hats, helmets, belts, etc,  you can display 1 figure about 5 different ways.  I like to be able to make some of my imps lefties and some righties, therefore the holster can swing around to either side of the belt.  Its makes for some variation in the troops.

The Solo torso was a POTJ imperial officer torso (but just about any torso can be used) 'cuz the black bib is custom fitted vinyl (just like the straps) and painted and glued etc.  Its not too hard to do, just another time consuming ordeal.  The trick is to make either side of the piece the same size.

Han's head is a redone VOTC Solo head, retooled and refitted slightly.  I obviously gave han a haircut and I had to modify the head to be accepted onto the post.

I really like the military look of the WWII era soldiers, especially the uniforms of the Germans and Japanese.  Many poeple slammed me in private emails thinking that I was some sort of nazi because I made that Ozzel fig.  Let me state that I HATE NAZIS, but I liked some of their uniform styles and I thought that the SW imperials were begging for some of that influence.   Thanks for commentng on the Ozzel figure.  I like it because its so different looking to many other custom figures out there.  Its probably not ever going to be popular with the masses but I was trying to push the limit and connect SW imperials to earthly evil.

That era is a big source for my customs,  Thanks so much for looking and letting me know what you think

hyourittaai- you can call me anything that you like, except late for dinner!

Darth Ennis, thanks so much for looking its the POTJ Imp Officer torso

Great Work!

Love the Rise of the Empire Theme

The Death Star Trooper is Seemless, even better than Hasbro's. You Sould Patend that Removable Holster Desing of Your. Very inovative.

Keep Up the Great Work, and I hope to see your Customs Posted here more often.

Outrider, just because some people called you a Neo Nazi because your customs had a WW2 look and feel to them is just ridiculous. I absolutely love your customs, they really capture a military sense to them. If only I had that kind of perceptive and miniature skill to make those holsters...

I never called him a Neo-Nazi. I just commented on how I liked the Nazi-esque red sash on Ozzel's arm because of the connection between Imperials and Nazis. Chill.

Outrider, just because some people called you a Neo Nazi

I never called him a Neo-Nazi. I just commented on how I liked the Nazi-esque red sash on Ozzel's arm because of the connection between Imperials and Nazis. Chill.

I wasn't blaming you. I love the Nazi tones to his customs, I stated that in the rest of the post.

HOTP Hes refering to emails that Outrider has gotten from people bashing his work and calling him a NEO-Nazi.

Thanks, man, this is what I was referring to.
I really like the military look of the WWII era soldiers, especially the uniforms of the Germans and Japanese.  Many poeple slammed me in private emails thinking that I was some sort of nazi because I made that Ozzel fig.

Relax, HotP, no harm done.

Anyways... I'd like to compliment you again on the great customs.  A lot of the inspiration behind the look and ideals of the Imperials was ispired by the Nazis.   Obviously most if not all of us disagree with their philosphy but understand that there is symbolism in SW that Lucas used when creating the idea of the Empire.

pm sent and I hope that you make many more figures in this style, like the imperial uniforms in the OT were not directly inspired by nazi uniforms! outrider make all the customs you want to make in the style you want to make them, you are talented and insperational. I like your customs, nice to see something other then clones for like the past year ( I am not taking a shot at clone customs either as I like them "a lot" and have made many myself)

Gotta Get the recipe for this one....Or I would be willing to pay for a commission piece...Are the legs articulated?

Also, as far as the NSDAP goes, while the Germans lost the war, morally, stategically, ethically, spiritually and economically...they did win the Fashion war.....anybody who can have 5 different uniforms (basic tunic only) in a period of a 4 year war..you know looking good was more important than winning.

I always saw the Luke and Leia in Poncho as more of a Luke and Leia in Type II Oak B smock....but that is just me.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. PEople fear what they don't understand. And, they are always going to assume the worst, and will only see the things that they want to. Just ignore them and keep doing what youre doing. You've done a great job on these customs.

Hey! I resemble that remark!  :P  ;D

There is some great paint jobs on the customs in this thread. The grey republic commando with the strip is great. Very clean and straight stripping. Very good use of the imperial body with these guys. I really like the camo paint job on the stromtrooper. Good stuff all around.

Its funny every time I read the title of thread I expect to see a custom painted Outrider. You need to do one.

Wowsa, thats a lot of commando's.  They look really good.  I'm curious on the helmets if they are modified (Glassman style) or just dremmel out?   I like the stripe paint schemes.  I also really liked the one backpack with the blaster rifle stuck in it.

For what its worth, I'd rather have the new photos added with the new entry on the thread instead of clicking back to page one.  However, thats really just a personal preference.

Keep 'em coming!

Regarding the Commando helmets, they're right from the package dremeled out helmets.  The work great for me but I have seen some of those awesome glassman casts.  These are just hollow repaints

Wow...just wow. Outrider, I wish I had 1/10th of your skills when it comes to straps, holsters, weapons, and packs. The one with the DC-15 tucked in there has to be the most interesting and creative backpack I've seen in a while.

I can't wait to see all these finished, and when you do, can you put them on this page, so everyone can view them better?

It seems that we both enjoy customs in drab colors...they really capture the military of the Republic.

Keep up the awesome, awesome work.

I saw the progression of these on another board. Excellent work indeed. The paint jobs on these rock!! The removable helmets are just icing on the cake.

I do have a small question about the small Imp logos. Are they decals?

also are the paint jobs based on something ( not HALO obviously ;D) or is it a design of your own. Either way these guys look great.

Post by: Outrider on June 21, 2006, 05:29 PM
As always its your feedback for better or worse that keep me going.  Thanks for all of the input.

Those stickers are custom decals and they're not nearly as glossy as they may appear in the pics.  They were freshly allpied at the time of the pics and now they're a dull matte finish.

The color scheme was al my idea.  As I stated before my goal was to not be influenced by other commando patterns that have been posted around the net.  I gotta check out HALO one of these days.  Honestly I tried to make an original squad.

This was a fun set to make.  Thanks for checking them out

I'm a pretty avid Halo fan (books, heavy campaign player, other references) and I don't really see any resemblance here, Outrider...I like the green-gray with the black and white.

I really love all the original DC attachments you've made...really nice! Do they all work?

As I recall, the original Delta Squad was pretty beat up, but I don't think your squad has seen as much action lately (or they're neat freaks about their armor  ;))...I think a light black would look really cool.

Could we get pics of all the member's backpacks? They all look neat.

Awesome work, one of the most original and creative Commando squads I've seen in a while. Good to see you back doing customs, I wondered where you went at Galactic Archives...

Post by: Outrider on June 23, 2006, 12:15 AM
HEllo again.
I was finally able to finish the last of my imperial trooper style figures for the Rise of the Empire series that I'm working on.

This one is called Fleet Security-Rise of the Empire.  Obviously I've used the vintage Death Squad Commander figure as my inspiration.  Its basically an upated version of that awesome vintage figure with some twists.  This figure is my personal fave from the ROTE line due to its likeness of my all time fave vintage figure.

I hope that you like it and please let me know what you think.

Like I said at TheJawa this addition to your RotE line looks very very nice!

Your attention to detail is stunning... again. Please don't tell me (actually, please do) that that head unit is removable? The holster looks smaller than the others you made. That's excellent work!

Let me guess: Tarkin body (I got 9 now   ;D), cast helmet, Ozzel hands (?) and head (modified)??

Here's a list of the parts used, and INCOM-not bad guesses!  You know me too well, I'll have to mix things up for you ;D

Head- potf2 DS Trooper retooled to fit onto a ball joint post, resculpted chin an d cheeks, sanded off the sculpted chin strap, and soft goods band around back of ear muffs

Body-ROTS Tarkin (of course)

Arms-Saga Derlin

Gloves-Saga Derlin

Helmet-origonal potf2 helmet with custom snug fit strap

custom soft goods holster and belt combo like the rest of the ROTE set

keep up the great work ,

- Joe
Title: Re: Outrider's Customs UPDATE 6/22
Post by: Outrider on June 25, 2006, 04:40 AM
Thanks Joe!

The buckles are hand made by me.  ITs nothing more than a segment of paper clip bent into a rectangle.  The trick is to leave the bottom section of the rectangle open so that the belt loop can slide iinto the notch of the buckle.

Measure properly to ensure that the belt is snug.  Hope it helps

Time for another update.

Hi everybody.  I have been in the process of creating a better version of a soft kama for basic action figures.  You may remember my first attempts at such an item from my Baccara Rise of the EMpire figure and a few others but I was never happy with those attempts.

Thanks to my lovely wife and her extremely cool sewing machine she and I created a brand new kama pattern for clones and other kama sporting figs.

You may also notice the custom soft holsters with this 501st commander.  This is another thing that I wanted to improve.  As you probably know by now my favorite tings to do are to make improved holsters and belt systems for existing action figures.  I'm pretty pleased with these new patterns.

This 501st themed commander is my first prototype for this new kama and holster system.  I hope that you like it and please let me know what you think,

Here's my take on the RED ARC from the clone wars era.

To all who have expressed interest in purchasing soft kamas from me.  I've made a bunch of them and they're ready to go but I'm experiencing more computer trouble.  I should be up and running by mid week again.  I'll fill all of the orders as soon as I can.  Here's another style of soft kama dine in grey with red trim.

Sorry to keep updating this thread but I was still not satisfied with my red ARC.  I think that I can call it complete this time.  I went back and repaint the pauldron's ammo pouch, dry brished the weapons and rehung the right holster.  I HATE being this nit picky but I had to correct it.  For those who care its now COMPLETE.

Also stay tuned for the 3 Blue ARC troopers coming after I complete a few that have been on the shelf.

Wow thanks.  I'd be honored.  Thanks everyone for the comments!

This figure was a ton of fun to create.  Lately I've been learning how to do a couple new camo patterns and I've been experimenting with new materials for pack pouches, holsters belts and such.

This style of camo is one that I saw while in K-mart in the hunting section.  Its a variation on a woodland theme- I changed the colors to make it appear more Star Wars-y.  For anyone who may be interested this new Rise of the Empire base figure will be featured in my next ROTE figure.
The base figure is an AT-AT Driver torso (retooled) and a clone pilot groin and leg set.  It was filled and sanded to make a smoothe transition, then belted with the jump suit belt and buckle to hide any seems once and for all.

Outrider! Where have you been? Well, apparently doing some amazing camo paint job on this one. It's hard to believe, but you've improved the camo pattern of the RotE series again!

The belt and holster are a superb finishing touch, as always. Looking forward to more RotE figs, man!  ;D
Title: AT-AT Crewman- Rise of the Empire
Post by: Outrider on August 23, 2006, 11:50 PM
Hello again.  Here's Rise of the Empire figure #13 of 20, AT-AT Crew member- Rise of the Empire.  As a kid I always loved the AT-AT and their pilots.  Hopefully this figure looks like an early version of that character just a few years after the birth of the Empire.  To me AT-AT walkers always looked like they'd been around for a while-archaic almost.  AT-AT crew members not only piloted the craft but operated mechanical systems, and provided perimeter security when the AT-AT was stationary.  By the way this is my personal favorite of the series to date.  Let me know what you think and thanks for lookin'

Good stuff Outrider.  I like the bridging look to this guy.  My only (minor) complaint is that he looks very "bulky"   I'm not sure how to take care of that though.  I'm wondering is the helmet full removeable?  Can you post a recipe for this guy?  Keep 'em coming.

Great looking Stuff as always.

I realy like your rise of the Empire theme. Captain Jerjerrod looks great very Wermachtesque.

The AT-AT crew looks sweet, it reminds me of some of the Pilots from "Force Commander" The cut away in the helmet looks great.

Great work keep it up.

I love this series. The Jerjodd is excellent. I love the camo scheme.

The At -At crewman is excellent as well. Is there any way we can see it with the helmet off? Which helmet is that BTW.

Post by: Outrider on September 18, 2006, 11:58 PM
Had an extra soft kama and it isn't good enough to sell to anybody but I thought that I could maybe do something cool with it.  I like to think that this is perhaps what Captain Kagi looks like.  Its nothing incredible special but I was inspired by that irregular kama I had...

Hope you like it.

The kama looks great on him, Outrider! But didn't Palpatine address Kagi when he went looking for Anakin? Man, I really gotta watch RotS again. It's been too long!

Is the red Hasbro's or yours? I think it's a bit too much on the bright side. Could be just he pics though.

I don't know how I missed the AT-AT guy, very cool, awsome blend of the 2 eras.  The face looks slightly shiny though, but that may just be the pictutre.
Kagi as really good looking too, your kamas are excelent, and they work well on shocks.
Great work!

Will you be making anymore of those Kamas? I probably could not afford any until next month, but would be interested.
What is the hologram from?

Thanks for the comments everyone.  Incom- thats Hasbro's red believe it or not I didn't even reach forpaint on this guy.  The red of the kama is not an exact match but its close enough for my needs.   ;)  I think thatthe red of the kama and the red of the figure fight against each other a little but it aint bad.

Straxus.  I've sold through my first batch-thanks everyone!  I'll be making more in the extremely near future.  Perhaps we could make some sort of trade- your helmets for my kamas.  PM me and we can got it going fa sho!

UPDATE!  I;ve repainted the holsters red which looks really awesome (well I think so anyway)  I've also added a few small touches to his gear not overblown but I'll post some pics tonight.

Here's the piece finished for now.  I painted the holster assembly red and I like it much better.  I also added one small gear strap to the belt.  Tell me what you think:

Wow! Looks even better with the straps/holsters red. The gear strap is a very nice touch to the character...

I realized what that particular gear strap was used for. I created a little comic to give an example.

Great job matching the reds outrider.  The Holsters look much better in that color.  I like the gear strap too, although I suspect Kentucky Fried Ani dosen't ;).

Straxus, Thats the best comic strip I've ever seen!  Awesome.  How long did it take you to create that?   ;D

I never envisioned that gear strap for that purpose but from now on I'll never see it any other way!  Great job and I'm honored that you'd take the time to create that- cool!

Well the crude outline drawings, editing and cutting pasting images probably by themselves only took 10-15 minutes... The biggest time consumer was locating the appropriate toasted Ani and a suitable Palpatine image. I had fun making it. The scenario was first thing that popped into my mind for use of the gear strap...hehe.
I am glad you liked it. I was a little concerned that you might take the comic the wrong way...
I kinda wanted to make comic-style replies to forums threads for a long time but never got arround to it until this one... I just had the sudden inspiration to do it...so I did.

What did you use for the metal part of the gear strap?

My sense of humor is very much along the same lines as yours.  Its hilarious.  Feel free to make as many comic strips regarding my customs as you see fit!

 ;D

THe metal piece was made from a metal staple.  (Up to my old tricks again.  Simply bent with some small pliers into a square or rectangle.  Easy-peazy

Here's the second member of my ARC team thus far.  You may remember my red ARC captain from about a month ago, well here's  a standard blue version.  I took a few liberties from the classic ARC of the Cartoons and other reference material.  Hopefully you can understand what I was trying to achieve.  My version is for rappelling into tight spaces and shocking would-be enemies by descending from out of gunships.

I chose to sling his weapon so that he can hold onto rappel lines with both hands.  I hope that you like it and please tell me what you think.

I like it, the paint is a really cool color, and I like what you did to the helmet.  The gun sling looks a little unweildy though, I think a holster would be easier.  I also like the kama and the little touches you added to it.  Nice Work!

Post by: Outrider on October 9, 2006, 11:57 PM
Here's something a little different from what I usually make.  This is a 100% hand sculpted jawa figure as seen over at thejawa.com.  I always loved their mascot- that cute little animated jawa seen on every page.  This figure hopefully captures that animated character.

The belts and pouches are made from my usual concoction of belts items.  Hope you like it.

Title: Rise of the Empire carries on!
Post by: Outrider on November 24, 2006, 04:37 PM
Here's my attempt at an Imperial sniper in the early days of the newly formed Empire.  I LOVED making this figure.  I'm pleased with the removable heads and the camo job is more earth based than my usual camo jobs.  My belief is that the empire would use a basic imperial blaster with an augmented sighting system for sniper duties.  I also included another helmetless sniper head because I believe that any sniper would prefer not to wear a bulky helmet when sighting in on their prey.

The visor is hand sculpted over a saga sandtrooper helmet.  Once again I borrowed this idea from the great idea maker Sithfire30.  The backwards kepi is another cast Jerjerrod piece and all of the webbing is hand made vinyl.  PLease tell me what you think

By the way this trooper is stationed on the planet Endor on a scouting mission 23 years before the events of ROTJ.

Awesome work on this custom. Love the paint scheme. It would definitely blend with the Endor environment.

My only critique is that the standard blaster doesn't look appropriate with this figure. Traditionally snipers use long rifles. The sight tube looks a bit bulky for this weapon too. Maybe use a longer rifle and trim down the sight? Just a suggestion.

I really like the straps on the chest and the holster.

Keep them coming.
