Rewarded? I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, whatever you like.  Beedo's been a good friend of mine for a while now, and for what it's worth, I can personally vouch for his integrity on this issue.  If he says he'll reward the three most creative suggestions, he'll do it.  He's done it before.  I've never had any occasion to doubt his integrity on this sort of thing -- nor has anyone he's every traded or transacted with on the various forums.  So let's at least give the guy a chance, eh?

I just happen to have a Shadow Trooper I wanted to customise into a commander and thought it might be fun for others to join in, since there are so many possibilities to explore.  And have a chance at a prize while they're at it.

... And think about it, guys and gals -- how often in our hobby do we have a chance to be REWARDED for our fine ideas and artistic efforts?  As in, actually tangibly REWARDED?  This is one of the few such chances I've ever seen.  And if it's a clone, well, they are some of the more versatile types of custom figure out there, as far as sheer number of customizing possibilities.  Which only increases the number of suggestions for which one can be REWARDED!

So let's have a moratorium on the Negative Nelly-ism, shall we?  After all, no one's holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to participate.

To reiterate my own suggestion: the lighter gray bits might be repainted a darker color -- doesn't have to be black like the rest of the armor, but just a darker gunmetal type gray.  (Do what you need to do to avoid trouble with the ball joints, however.)  I like VF/501's suggestions of spy gear, too.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Female Figures List
« on: May 29, 2006, 12:05 AM »

Findswoman, I'm surprised you don't know these figures.  I could have sworn that the arms used in your Isnard figure were from that line.

Oh my gosh, yes, you're right!  In fact, now that I've seen this link, I realize I have a few parts from these Action Girl figures kicking around my fodder box: the jockey outfit, arms and body from the sports bra outfit, & a few of the heads.  And I think the arms I used for Isard came from the jockey girl.  I just never knew before what line they were from!  Thanks so much for shooting that along and helping put a name to the face, so to speak!  Gosh, I'd love to find more of those, but they don't seem so easy to come by any more...

There is also the WOW Action Girl line of figures, but they're a trifle cartoonish looking.

Sounds nifty, Quazar!  I'm not familiar with that line -- have you ever used these figures or parts in your own work? And could you send me a link, by any chance?  Searching "Action Girl" and even "Action girl figure" didn't give me anything looking like li'l plastic toys!  :o

Again -- any volunteers to maintain the vintage femfig list?  Let's keep this thing alive, folks!  :)

Well, how about having a whole separate list for vintage-type customs, including the 80s figures you mentioned and the available vintage SW femmes?  But I'd rather someone other than me managed that particular list, since I don't know anything about the vintage figures whatsoever!  What sayest thou, Rolla?  :)

Thanks, all, for the suggestions!  I've just added a bunch of your suggestions to the fodder list.  Now, I don't want to be a negative Nellie either, but for the reasons stated by Quazar, I am sticking to figures and lines from the '90s and later -- better availability as well as compatibility with modern SW figures.

(Notice I haven't put any vintage SW figures on the list, either.  Vintage customizing is a world into which I have not yet ventured!  Tho' who's to say that the vintage fgures folks have mentioned wouldn't work famously with vintage SW ones?...)

Now, Yaddle... Yes, definitely female, but... not very customizable, I'd think.  I left out Ashla from the Bear Clan two-pack for the same reason.  Though on second thought... Any thoughts, folks?

All right.  Here's a list I threw together today of all the compatible SW-sized female figures I could think of.  If I have left anything out, especially in the non-SW list, please do let me know, and chime in with anything else you think would work!

Of course, some of these femmes are less suitable for customizing than others.  Some of the big-dress Amidalas, for example, aren't really useable as fodder.  I've tried to point this out along the way.  Your comments here are appreciated, too.

And without further ado, here's the list as it stands right now!  Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Female Figures List

This is an excellent idea, and I would be glad to help out on it -- in fact, I was just going to say I wouldn't mind having it on my own site, www.findswoman.net, either!  :)

FFURG has a list of female heads usable with SW parts, but it's by no means either exhaustive or up-to-date, and there are no pictures.  Still, it does gives us something to start with.

So let's start just by listing things, why don't we?  Starting with the Leias, perhaps, most all of which are good for fodder:

POTF2:
"Monkey" Leia (torso + arms are EXCELLENT fodder, even if head isn't)
"New Likeness" Leia (white bun outfit)
Leia with Sporting Blaster (also white bun outfit)
Hoth Leia
Slave Leia
Leia as Boushh
Ewok Celebration Leia
Flashback Ceremonial Leia
Expanded Universe Leia
Leia from the speederbike
Leia from the Mynock Hunt scene

Princess Leia Collection
ANH Leia (with R2-D2)
Ceremonial Leia (with Luke)
Bespin Gown Leia (with Han)
Pink-dress Ewok Celebration Leia (with Wicket)

POTJ:
General Leia
Bespin Escape Leia (tiny!)
Deluxe Slave Leia

Saga and OTC:
Imperial Captive Leia (white outfit, buns)
Bespin Gown Leia
Slave Leia (same as Deluxe from POTJ line)
Leia as Boushh
VOTC Leia

Leias that may or may not be fodder-able:
Early Bird Leia
Swing to Freedom Leia

Anyone care to start on the Padmés?  :)

Tee hee!  Great way to get our attention, Brent!  :D

As far as colors go... I would say that most Hutts are closer to green in back, fading to a light yellowish tan in front.  Gardulla's front definitely seems to be a lighter yellowish tan than Jabbas.  Some other distinguishing characteristics: she's got a sort of "widow's peak" of the green between her eyes, her nostrils seem to be bigger than Jabba's, and her eyes seem to be more of a golden yellow in color, while Jabba's are more orange.

Gosh, that's a lot of colors, I know!  Hope that helps -- and best of luck with this foxy lady!  :D

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Mitsukara's customs
« on: May 26, 2006, 11:19 AM »
Looks like your 1:18 career is off to a great start, Mitsukara!  I especially like the Hans -- the head you've chosen for the Stormie Han really captures how he is in that particular scene of SW.  And I like all the articulation on the New Republic Han.  (Since he does look a good bit older than the Stormie Han, this seems like a good thing to call him! :) )

Keep up the fine work -- looking forward to seeing more.  And don't let anyone make you feel bad about using POTF2 fodder -- it's still great for many things.  (Aliens, for example.) Happy customizing!

Phruby, ya know i almost got going last night, i had the house to myself, but i opted to finish my wifes garden for her. So, i'll get started tomorrow!

You are a very good husband, Glassman.  ;)

Wow, Pen, that IS a Depa head, isn't it?  It works surprisingly well for Isard.  I don't think you have to add a rank badge -- there are plenty of reference pictures where she doesn't even have one.  If you're looking for things to do, though, you might paint the "riding crop" black, too -- might match her Imperial look better that way, and be distinguished from Mon Mothma's swizzle stick.

Paul, your finished product looks great!   The balloon clothes work great on the MicroLady body.  And I'm glad Elizabeth worked out well for you -- she sounds like great fodder, but alas, I have yet to find one.  The only thing is... her face seems awfully eager and wide-eyed, or something to that effect, in a way that's not quite in character for Iceheart.

And Glassman, I can't wait to see yours!  I know it'll be super cool, too.  :)

Happy customizing, all!

Thanks for posting, Phruby and Ennis, and for bearing with me on my obscure & esoteric source material!

Ennis, I agree, it is nice to take a break from SW from  time to time.  Besides, it's a fun challenge to try to use SW fodder to make completely non-SW characters!  It always surprises me how much potential there is in that direction.

Phruby, I'd be glad to make The Doctor if I'd ever seen any Dr. Who!  I've been meaning to, bt haven't had much time.  Could you or anyone else perhaps shoot a few reference pictures my way?

Here's the premise behind the Jeeves and Wooster stories, in case anyone is wondering.  They're not sci-fi at all, but they are completely escapist in their own way.  Bertie Wooster is an independently wealthy young dandy, very good natured & has lots of friends, but not very smart.  He's always getting into sticky situations (being engaged to the wrong girl, having any number of silly tasks to perform for his aunts or friends), and every time his rear is saved by the intelligence and cunning of his valet, Jeeves.  P.G. Wodehouse wrote the stories between the 1900s and the 1970s, but they all take place in the Jazz Age, and Bertie is perpetually about 28 years old.  They're just about the funniest things written in English, &  highly recommend them to all!

Thanks again, guys!

Thanks for the comments, everyone, and for coming to visit!

Today's update, I'm afraid to say, is not SW-related.  Do we have any aficionados of P. G. Wodehouse out there?  If so, then this'll be right up your alley.  Here's my 4" custom figure renditions of Bertie Wooster and his manservant Jeeves, Wodehouse's two most famous characters. (Wodehouse's Jeeves is the namesake of AskJeeves.com.)

Jeeves and Wooster

And Bertie Wooster may not be a SW character, but he is made 100% of SW parts (except for props like his hat).

Do enjoy, everyone!  Star Wars-related stuff coming soon, I promise...  :o
