Title: Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection
Post by: Jeff on April 7, 2015, 10:10 AM
Finally officially announced:
- Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection Announcement (http://www.starwars.com/news/the-star-wars-digital-movie-collection-coming-april-10)
- Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection Trailer and Vendor list (http://www.starwars.com/the-star-wars-digital-movie-collection)

Is anyone else really tired of buying and rebuying these movies?

I bought the VHS trilogy.  Then the SE versions on VHS.  Then Ep1 on VHS.  Then the SE versions on DVD.  Then the prequel DVDs.  Then the SE versions with the original cuts bonus DVD.  Then the Bluray saga set.

Now, they want to milk me for another $90 for digital copies?   I don't think I can do it.  :-\

The bonus features will be ripped easily and posted online. No real benefit other than the convenience of having it everywhere you go.

I agree.  And you can also replace movies with certain figures (and update or whatever) and it's still the same.

It wasn't so bad when those resulpts were better figures and only $5-6 each.  Now that we are approaching $12-15 figures... it's a lot harder to rebuy those resculpts over and over again too.  :-\

Was there any mention of what the new bonus content was?

Check out the first link for a list, Dave.  New stuff seems to be "conversations" with people involved in the saga and "Discoveries From Inside", which appear to be people looking at things in the LFL vaults - costumes, mattes, props, etc.

Sounds like the content may vary a bit by vendor though...  "*Digital bonus offerings may vary by retailer"

While I'm pretty used to the Star Wars franchise milking cash out of fans, this seems... excessive? Especially since the industry standard has moved to Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo packs for $20. I mean, didn't they just drop BR/DVD combo packs last year?

Easy pass either way, since I already have different copies of the films on VHS, DVD, BR. If only more people would pass on these, they wouldn't have to release different versions of the films each year.

The whole rollout of this thing has been bizarre. Hasbro's toy sets spoil the existence of this, for whatever reason, and they announce this a week ahead of what would seem to be the optimum time to announce something like this. The value in buying the movies digitally isn't there for me because like Jeff said, I own every iteration of these films and if I want to watch them anywhere I go,  I guess I can search You Tube or flip on Spike. I saw one of the 'new' featurettes on Collider today, regarding the true color of the Hoth Han parka. This was made out to be some revelation at long last, when the true color (brown, he says, in spite of his Kenner roots) has been acknowledged for years. Decades, really.

I'm debating buying it.  I didn't purchase the Blu Ray sets due to the changes.  I'll probably wait until the price drops a bit though.

Yeah, I'm cheap with memory so that alone would keep me from buying these.  I'd not wanting them hogging space on anything I own, even if I were inclined to buy.  I have the BR's, and that's good enough for me.

If they release the originals in a Blu Ray/Digital format, I'd be the first in line!

If they released the original edits in BR, I'd buy again.  That's all it'd take.

I'll avoid digital download anything as long as possible.

I don't believe in buying non physical items that can be taken away at anytime. I'd rather buy the dvd/bluray and rip it for my own digital streaming. $20 for air is pretty high.

It doesn't work that way on iTunes.  Everything I've purchased there I've been able to re-download through the iTunes store when I've gotten a new computer or iPad.

+1

When I got a new laptop I was setting up my music on iTunes. I had downloaded a few songs from the iTunes Store but couldn't find them in the music I had transferred from my old laptop. I went on the iTunes Store to find the missing songs and was able to download those previously purchased songs for free.  iTunes recognizes your account and gives you access to those files that you've previously bought for another device.  It just takes a while for the concept to come around.

If you wouldn't buy the Blus because of the changes, why would you debate buying these? They're the same versions.

I guess the good part is these will be on netflix or amazon prime for streaming sometime next year in case I feel like watching it via netflix instead of just streaming it from my computer.

Doubtful.  Whatever device you are using to watch Netflix on most likely can handle FLixter, Vudu or any of the other Ultraviolet sources.

My issue with this is the damn pricing.  $50?  I'm on the fence.  $90?  NO WAY.

I thought about buying the Blu Rays and decided against it (although I may get the prequels and hold out for the unaltered OT).  And the same is true with the digital copies.  That way I'll have something to watch on my iPad when I'm in line in December.

What I'd really like is a way to get the Revisited versions on my iPad.

I actually then bought all six Star Wars movies in August of last year.
