Hakan's Space Balls
For when you need to have your existence in the universe put into perspective.
Cold, hard perspective.
I've seen this before.
Heh, I've already dealt with the fact that I'm an insignificant speck in the cosmos. If anyone else thinks they are something big, they should take a look at this and come to terms that on the universal scale, they too are nothing.
One of the things that made me deal with the fact that we are insignificant was the movie "The Time Machine." That's the new one mind you. It made me realize that no matter what, time is going to go on regardless. 800, 000 years from now, humanity is going to be much different if it even still exists. Certainly noone from that era will remember any of us. Likely even the most "important" people of our time now, won't be remembered. So how can we think that we would.
It just kind of puts things in perspective that we who are alive now, should enjoy what time we have. That is to say however not just do any old damn thing we please. At least in the short term after we're dead, wouldn't it be better to be remembered by your immediate friends and family for being stand up people?
Sadly 50 years after our own death we will essentially be forgotten, unless we become someone famous for whatever reason. Even then only the ultra famous will be remembered for a scant time longer. Think about who you might know of through history in even the last 200 years. It's mostly politicians. For those of us in the US that means Presidents for the most part. It's unlikely any of us are going to become President, so we can just plod along in the relative comfort that our ever so short existence on the rock won't long be suffered by it's ongoing inhabitants. Depressing isn't it...
