Holy crap
Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm not really whining, it's more a tinge of amazement than anything else.
Temperature outside this morning, with the windchill:
-48 C That's just nutty kookoo. It equates out to -54 F. Now without the windchill it's a balmy -38 C, so really not that cold, but consider the following:
When I stepped out the door this morning, the temperature change from my house to outside was 126 degrees, from +72 F in the house to -54 F outside.
The car, parked inside the garage, barely started.
While driving to work at 70 mph, on several occasions the engine RPM
increased because the engine was cooling off.
Exposed skin freezes in under two minutes at this temperature. We're not talking frostbite, we're talking your skin freezes. Period. And that's just not a good thing.
Shrinkage. Seinfeld didn't adequately cover the topic, of that I can assure you. Sucked. Up. Inside. 'Nuff said.
One would think living here you'd be prepared and for the most part I/we are. Extra mitts, goretex overpants, hat, scarf, etc. The funny part is this cold and all I added was a thin fleece vest. It's cold out, so I need an extra layer, otherwise I'm wearing the same stuff I was when it was 40 C warmer. Acclimatization is a beautiful thing.
