Watto's Junk Yard / Any green thumbs out there? Go plants!
« on: November 24, 2004, 03:14 PM »
I've always loved having lots of plants in my homes.  Really seems calming to surround yourself with fresh, green plant life.  Pain in the ass having to water them all the time, but it's really worth it as they provide a breath of fresh air around your living environment, literally and figuratively.

But I have a question for any other green thumbs out there, which I've never really been able to figure out.  What does it mean when the tips of the leaves turn brown or start dying?  Does that mean I'm overwatering, underwatering they're not getting enough sun, or getting too much sun?  I've tried to remedy it any number of ways, but several of my plants just don't seem to want to cooperate.  Oddly enough, the rest of those plants aside from their leave's tips seem to be doing just fine.  Any insight would be appreciated!

Not a big fan of dealing with outdoor plantlife though, like flowers and such.  I leave that up to my fiancee to pretty up the front and back yards.  So who else loves their plants?  Or am I just a freak?   :P

Original Trilogy Collection / "Transition" figures. You buying?
« on: October 14, 2004, 08:33 PM »

So we've finally seen what the new "transition" figures are going to look like, bridging the gap between the OTC and ROTS figures (excluding the all-new Coruscant, Naboo and Cantina figures).  Many more rehashes, as usual.  I guess this is the usual blow to the carded completists, and an additional kick to the nuts to have to buy yet another Commtech Han.   ::)

Like I mentioned in another thread, I'm glad to see them getting more Imperial army builders out, in the Stormtrooper, Biker Scout and the spiffy looking "all new" Sandtrooper (to this transition).  Don't know why they couldn't just continue using the OTC card designs though (except on the prequel figures).  I'm not crazy completist, so I'll only be buying the new Sandtrooper on this transition card.  But it sucks that the real completists now have to buy all of these again:

Dagobah Luke
Commtech Han
Vader
Yoda
Chewbacca
Stormtrooper
Biker Scout

I think that's all of them that we know of so far.  But considering how early all of the "2005" figures are coming out and likely these transition figures too, I wonder if there's going to be even more transition figures coming down the pipeline.  If so, I hope they're "new" ones like the Sandtrooper was in this case.  Still love this card style, so the more figures released on it, the merrier!

So how many of these rehash transition figures do you guys plan on buying?

LEGO / Upset about the packaging change?
« on: September 21, 2004, 11:27 PM »
I've already picked up the previous Lego sets, but now they're rehashing the last few into the OTC packaging design, which looks 100x better than that circus blue crap they had before.  But now I'm stuck with 3 sets that I want to upgrade to the superior OTC packaging.  I'm thinking about just marching into my local Walmart, and telling them I want an exchange, since I haven't opened my older sets up yet.  I already price checked the old and new sets, and they're identical, so maybe I could get away with it.  Is that unethical though?  What do you guys think?  Wouldn't you rather have your Snowspeeder, X-Wing and Cantina set in the OTC packaging instead?

Are any other sets getting upgraded, or is it just those 3?

Original Trilogy Collection / How are the OTC card conditions near you?
« on: September 21, 2004, 11:14 PM »
I've been seeing a lot of really messed up cards for the OTC figures, and wondered if that was just isolated to my few local stores, or if that was more of a widespread issue?  The damage is all over the place too.  Some have crushed bubbles, severely warped/curled sides, smashed corners, etc.  The problem seems to be most noticeable at my Target.  WM and TRU don't seem to be quite as bad.  But it's unfortunately preventing me from finding the last several mint carded figures that I need to get my OTC collection up to date.

So how are the cards and bubbles looking in your areas?

I sporadically collect the 12" line, and was wondering if there was any Episode 3 news on it lately (Comic Con, etc)?  It seems like the 12" line has really been fizzling out of late, aside from the three VOTC figures, so I've been growing a little concerned over the fate of this line.  I figured an Episode 3 release would give it enough of a shot in the arm that perhaps they'd pump out some new OT figures as well.

What would you guys want to see in an ROTS 12" line?  Obviously a new Vader goes without saying.  Grievous would certainly be interesting, and potentially cool if he was done well.  What else?

6
I'm sure this must've been covered somewhere already and I just missed it, but was there any word at Comic Con or elsewhere, that Action Fleet would finally be making a return for Episode 3?  I hope so, since I'd really like them to revisit those last several OT ships/sets that they had on tap a long time ago, like the Death Star and Star Destroyer.  I'm going to be mighty pissed if those never get released, after they flaunted them in front of us at Toyfair a few years ago!   >:(

Honestly though, I could care less about any Ep. 3 Action Fleet ships.  I just figured if they restarted the line to put some of those out, my M.I.A. OT ones would have a better chance at seeing the light of day.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Animated Wave 3 - Anakin/Grievous/ARC
« on: February 27, 2004, 05:48 AM »
So with the Clone Wars mini series making a come back next month, for the next (and last?) 10 episodes, do you think there will be any more animated figures to go along with it, to support it's release?  With a number of new characters that they're likely to introduce in the second half, I think we'll see more of these figures, if but only one wave this time (hopefully two though).

What do you think?  More on the way?  I haven't followed the teases on the next round, but I'm sure others have a clue as to what else is on tap.  So with that in mind, what figures do you think they could use in Series 3 of the animated figure line?  The only one that pops into my mind at the moment is that character that was just announced at the official site - the half alien half droid Jedi killer thing.  I suppose a Padme would be a solid and obvious choice as well.  Which others though?

Watto's Junk Yard / What magazines do you subscribe to?
« on: January 31, 2004, 03:37 AM »
Just curious about everyone's weekly/monthly reading habits, and what all magazines everyone out there subscribes to.  I currently subscribe to Sports Illustrated, Star Wars Insider, Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide.  That's it.  I used to have several other subscriptions, but found myself not getting as much use out of those magazines, so I cut them loose and now I just browse through them at the local bookstore when I have the time.

My girlfriend enjoys reading all those crap chick magazines, like Vogue, Cosmo, etc. and they all really screw with her head!   ::)

What do you guys read on a regular basis?

Watto's Junk Yard / WTF?!
« on: January 31, 2004, 03:05 AM »
This is totally bizarre, and not to start a huge scalper debate, but check out what the hell has popped up over at Amazon.com today:  WTF?!   :o

Wow.  Looks like someone's moving up in the world.  Pretty crazy to see that little partnership pop up there!  I'm sure Amazon will enjoy some of the complaints they're going to be getting about this!   ;)  A few of those prices are decent, while a couple others aren't.  I'm surprised about the cheap price on that Acklay to be honest.  Should be interesting to see what else pops up there, and what the prices will be.  I'm sure part of the reason TRU's doing this is to be able expand into the vintage market, but it's still pretty weird!

So what do you think of this move on Amazon.com's part?

I was excited to see LOTR take home best movie (drama), director, and the score and song awards.  The more hardware for this flick, the better.  Well deserved, and hopefully it'll repeat, along with Jackson as Director, at the Oscars.

I was also glad to see Charlize and Renee win their actress awards.  Charlize was amazing in that Monster role!  Good to see Sofia Coppola get the Screenplay too (not listed here).

My only disappointment last night was Johnny Depp not winning best actor for a Comedy film (comedy?).  Hopefully Johnny will get another shot when the Oscar nods roll out tomorrow.  But Bill Murray has always been insanely funny throughout his career, so I was excited to see him recognized with a GG award.

Should be interesting to see what surprises and disappointments the always interesting Oscar nominations have in store for us tomorrow morning!

Watto's Junk Yard / Cellular Telephones
« on: January 9, 2004, 03:19 PM »
I'm finally going to rid myself of my ancient and crappy old Nokia cell phone that I've had for about 4 years now, but don't know jack about cell phones.  I'd like to find something mid-range ($50-$100) that doesn't necessarily have all the bells and whistles like some of the higher end phones these days (cameras, etc).  Just want something that's reliable, gets a great signal, and hopefully has a few decent games on it for when I'm sitting around waiting for something and bored.

Also, what do you guys (and gals) prefer more - the flip phone types, or just a regular/non-opening phone?  Any benefits to one over the other?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Saga '02-'04 / Target and Walmart sales
« on: November 5, 2003, 06:06 PM »
I'm sure most people caught the Sunday Target ad for Clone Wars figures marked down to only $3.99, but in case you haven't tested the new prices out, they seem to work on ALL basic carded SW figures, Collection 1 & 2 of Saga included!   8)  Sure, it's only a buck, but saving money is always a good thing.

My local Walmart seems to have taken notice of Target's sale, and have marked all of their Star Wars figures down even lower.  Can't recall what the price was now, but it was in the mid $3 range.  Even better!

So if you've been holding off on buying that less than stellar figure that's been eyeing you for months, maybe now's the time!  I just hope it (or the actual cartoon debut) encourages some people to remove some of the hundreds of Clone Wars Anakin and Yoda figures filling all of our local pegs right now!  Getting really bored seeing nothing but those while out hunting.   >:(

Saga '02-'04 / Hall of Fame assortment
« on: November 5, 2003, 05:48 PM »
No one's talked much about the recently announced Hall of Fame assortment here from what I've seen.  Just curious what people's thoughts on it were.  Here's the current listing for this assortment from Entertainment Earth:

Quote
Star Wars 3 3/4 inch Hall of Fame action figure assortment. This assortment features previously released figures with all-new packaging. Contains 12 individually packaged figures: 1x HOF Chewbacca Mechanic (NEW), 1x HOF R2-D2 (NEW), 1x HOF C-3P0 (NEW), 1x HOF Obi-Wan, Coruscant (NEW), 1x HOF Anakin Skywalker Hangar Duel (NEW), 1x HOF Stormtrooper (NEW), 1x HOF Yoda (NEW), 1x HOF Darth Maul, Theed Hangar Duel (NEW), 1x HOF Princess Leia, Imperial Captive (NEW), 1x HOF Hans Solo, Flight To Alderaan (NEW), 1x HOF Luke Skywalker (NEW), 1x HOF Darth Vader Throne Room (NEW) (subject to change).

I understand Hasbro's need to do this, that being keeping the main characters fresh on the pegs for the supposed kiddies that are buying the line (yeah right).  But if these cases are released in any decent sized quantity, I'd imagine 10 of the 12 becoming big time pegwarmers once the carded completists have had their fill.  Other than those folks, will anyone actually be buying these things?

I'd guess that if the Stormtrooper and R2 turn out to be the HTF Commtech versions, that they'll be in pretty high demand, but other than that, I don't see much else moving.  The only other three figures not specifically identified above are 3PO, Yoda, and Luke.  If the C-3PO turns out to be the Millenium Minted Coin version, which I still say is by far the best of the bunch, then that would be cool.  Yoda?  No idea.  I'm guessing the Flashback version, though there haven't really been any good OT versions of him in the modern line.  Maybe the vintage version?   :P  As for Luke, Hasbro loves the Tattooine outfit, so I'd imagine it'd be the Floppy Hat or T-16 figure.  Maybe they'll surprise us with the Bespin one though.

What bothers me is that it would appear that this assortment has already begun, with the recent Han and Leia figures on the new gold bar cards, which are the same exact figures that will be shipping in the HOF assortment, for the THIRD time no less.  Same might hold true for the C-3PO if they pick the TA version.  At least re-release a figure that wasn't just re-released several months earlier.  Absolutely moronic.

Maybe Hasbro could put together an Unsung Hero assortment, of the figures that really should be re-released, like Ephant Mon, Motti, the tail end of the Ep. 1 line, etc.  If rereleased in limited quantities, I think those would do much better personally.

What I was really hoping for when I first saw the HOF news, was for the "definitive" figures for each character to finally get made, like some people on this board have talked about a while back.  Now that would've been cool!   :-\

So what do you guys think of this HOF assortment?

LEGO / Lego Shop at Home exclusives, or what?!
« on: October 21, 2003, 08:46 PM »
I've been collecting most of the Lego line, including the nicer high end UCS items, but only at retail stores and usually for a good sales price.

But I'm growing concerned that Lego is changing it's selling strategies on some of the more expensive sets now, as they appear to really be "Lego shop at home" exclusives so far.  This list would include the UCS Star Destroyer, Cloud City playset and now the UCS Snowspeeder.

So does anyone know if these will ever hit retail stores, or am I just going to have to suck it up and pay full price for these through their website?  I'd hate to have to resort to that, since I'm generally a pretty crafty bargain hunter.

Watto's Junk Yard / Do you eat your fruits and vegetables?
« on: September 29, 2003, 08:31 PM »
I've been hearing an add on the radio a lot lately, from the FDA, blabbering on about the 5-9 recommended fruits and vegetables that we're supposed to be eating daily.

Damn.  I'm nowhere even close to that amount!  Aside from the lettuce and tomatoes in my various sandwiches and burgers, I'm lucky if I ever eat any fruits or vegies.  I'm probably way overboard on my breads and cheeses intake as well, that's for sure!  Does this mean I'm doomed?

Does anyone really eat that much "good" stuff on a daily basis, or am I just the most unhealthy guy on the planet?
