The Vintage Collection / Re: Recent Vintage Collection Purchases
« on: August 1, 2010, 07:37 PM »

Nah I think he's talking about those regular 4 figure packs.  Isn't there one coming out with a couple snowies and Vader and a winter biker scout and an E-web or something?

I might have just made that up but I think i saw pics of those.

No, that's right. But just one Snowtrooper with tripod laser, one scout with bike and  ::) Vader. I briefly considered it today for $19.99 at Target before just buying one Snowtrooper on Legends card. Compare that battle pack to the 2005 Hoth Imperial set which included 4 figure, the tripod gun and the probe droid.  :(

BTW, Not sure it's known yet but the Snowtrooper no longer has the excessively wide stance the last Saga Legends release had (from those Hoth Scouts, no doubt). Downside, it has the full helmet dust spray over and the other weathering. I'd like them clean someday.

Also, I got the new weapons batch with the sandtrooper rifle. I managed to see it was included. It's hard to make out in the package, but you can see the chunky clone commando gun or the rifle's strap.

It must've started today. Good for those Clone army packs and the Imperial Hoth set...well, maybe. If you'd had your fill of Vader that means 1 Hoth Scout trooper with bike and one Hoth stormtrooper with tripod cannon. You might be better off getting 3 Snowtroopers for $6.99 each. I say that because the Hoth Scout looks odd to me.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: General Vehicle Discussion Thread
« on: July 31, 2010, 07:15 PM »
Is this gonna be the first year since ROTS without a Republic Gunship release?

I'm still not clear why they didn't release the gunship with (or even without) doors in the 2009 deluxe series instead of that Imperial ARC 170. The gunship is something kids and parents would recognize.

The fall 2010 release case packs of the Starfighter series are bit odd in that there's no vehicles currently shipping for the Jedi Fighters or the Clone Tank to fight (Or the Cloud Car, which never really fought, though). I know more repaints are coming, the AAT, Bane's fighter and the new droid bomber.

My Chewbacca got flushed down the toilet. A couple of months later when we open up the septic tank to get it emptied there he was floating at the top. Just his head and one arm sticking up. He spent the next two weeks emerged in a Coolwhip tub full of bleach. He a little green from the neck down but otherwise okay. The headless Sand Person wasn't as lucky.

"Chewie crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to."

Hey man, welcome aboard.  spill a little about your collecting history if you have time...  You're already joining in, so welcome aboard!

Grew up on the Kenner stuff, my older brother and I collected until the end of the run. We didn't get everything, but most of it. Wish our Death Star survived in better shape. We didn't buy all the Droids collection, and none of the Ewoks cartoon toys.

Got into POTF2 reluctantly, since I didn't like the preposed nature and buff sculpts that much. But my other hobby, 3 3/4" GI JOE had ended, so I stuck with POTF2 until the Expanded Universe wave. I never found a single figure of that wave and was frustrated by people online saying "what are you talking about, I've seen them." As more and more stuff became harded to find at retail, my interest tapered off.

Episode 1 rolled around, bought a few figure prior to the film ($7 bucks for Jar Jar  :-[ ). Saw the movie...lost interest again. Did get stuff on clearance later, but mostly skipped POTJ except for a couple of clearance aisle figures.

Episode 2 came out, and after seeing it, I was ready to jump back in. But too many of the figures stank, with preposing and built in action features all over the place. My euthsiasm faded quick. Only got a few figures inbetween AoTC and ROTS, like Tans Spijekk, Dodonna...ones I always wanted in figure form. I missed some, like J'Quille. I passed on the OTC cantina aliens, which I regret.

ROTS pulled me back in, thanks to the clone trooper and clone commander. Figures finally had real articulation. The sandtrooper from 2006's saga line was great, too. I've been casually collecting since then. I usually get obscure aliens and "army builders". I'm unusual among collectors in that I'm not into Jedi or Sith, though I have some . I'm not into Clone Wars toys, but I've got a few of the ones I liked the looks of. I usually skip vehicles entirely due to money, space and the fact I'd never do anything with them. In terms of EU, I'd like to see Marvel characters made, even though I lost my vintage Star Wars comics years ago.

I stilll pick up old Kenner figures if I find them at yard sales or flea markets for cheap.

Never knew that about the post necks, besides 2-1B's who's head would pop off easily.

Rebel Soldier (Hoth Battle Gear) was the first good guy army builder I remember. Staring blankly into the face of overwhelming odds. He's a classic.

A fun Legacy collection Hoth Rebel Trooper head swap is Trinto Duaba; you can make a Rebel that looks like a burn victim.

The vintage Rebel Commander had a lousy gun...thick handled. We had two of them, and 4 troopers. That was an okay force to man the Hoth stuff.  I never gave much thought to the Commander actually being the trooper. I did wonder why his pack was mold on, and others had to use the survival gear packs.

My brother lost Chewie than found him months later, in a bar doing a line of coke with a hooker...his hair was perfect. (Okay, maybe it was a vacant lot by an apartment complex)

We had two at some point, which was good, because the original had loose limbs and a missing weapon.

I don't remember doing much with the 80's version other than her being around. Lost her gun early on.  Never got the POTF2 releases (was their one or two?).

Lack of ankles on the new one is disappointing, considering she did run around a bit in this outfit.

Not sure any of them are great figures.   :-\

My brother and I wound up with six of the original At-At Commander, because our parents got some on clearance and gave them to us for birthday or X-mas. We had one AT-AT, and not having seen ESB enough times to remember he was a specific character (or just not caring), we used them as imperial troops (turns out, not that inaccurate, since this is an Imperial officer's field attire). The darn paint on their noses would rub off.

The 80's one's proportions do seem goofy, tiny helmet being the main thing. I think I like his belt more than the actual movie accurate one. What is that odd decor/symbol in the middle of the movie version, anyway? "Check out my belt buckle!"

The recent versions look more like the movie, that is a person in a dress uniform with plastic junk armor on them. It's not statisfying from a fantasy perspective to me. The POTF2 version is more comic booky (poured into his uniform like POTF2 figures were), in a sense more the true remake of the vintage At-At Commander.

The new "vintage" one's helmet seems off compared to the movie still. And the wide sleeves are wrong. If you feel that isn't supposed to be Veers (going by the face, it's not really) , then you can rationalize it. I'll probably get him since I never got the POTF2 or Saga versions.  I wouldn't mind it if they did a retro repaint in dark grey.

The paintjob on this Super Battle Droid is significantly different from the previous 30AC and Saga Legends versions.  It also doesn't have the holes in the body.

It almost looks to have ankle articulation. Could be my eyes playing tricks on me.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: July 31, 2010, 12:25 AM »
Even though I've little interest in that future era storyline, I got that Krayt and Dare set for $7 something at Target. Also got the Wedge and Borssk pack, too. I don't understand why they made that Wedge. A dress uniform from the Expanded Universe? Was that really something in demand, even by the EU fanbase? Borssk is okay, but I keep wanting to pose the arms like they have ball joints. Many Bothans arms popped out to bring you this post. (Okay, one Bothan's arms almost popped out.)

I did buy 2 more Willrows at that price, leaving the last one for someone else. I'm not sure why I got them. Not sure his head would swap out well with many figures or anything. Maybe all the haters who missed the figure will realize they need one and the prices will skyrocket on the aftermarket.  8)

I allso found Leesub and a Sgt. Eidan. It's a crime to buy Leesub that cheap; she's got a great figure...er...she's a great figure.

My brother and I had this figure back in the day (1980), and the claw arm broke off pretty early. I found a used one in the early 90's that had a softer claw arm. I'm guessing there was a production variant/change at some point.

I post over at the Rebby Scum forums, but they seem kinda uptight there at times. And no one goes to galactic hunter forums anymore.

This place seems to have its own clique I'll quickly be alienated from. Ha.
