The Vintage Collection / Re: SDCC 2011

If this is the buzz created for TPM for the 3D release, I'm pretty hyped for the next couple of years for each movie re-release. Each SDCC should be pretty exciting.

However, I'm really disappointed by the lack of figures Hasbro put up for display. They put up figures we all knew were coming. I'm glad they did put up the 2012 TPM figures, but they didn't even put up the whole wave. I'd say I'm looking forward more to NYCC now.

These sets stagnate in my area, and the sets with lightsaber-wielding characters sell a little more, no doubt to kids. I'm surprised that with the mixed reaction to these sets that Hasbro keeps cranking them out. They're a smart idea, but the figures aren't new enough to sell easily.

Luke looks spiffy. Leia looks uh... like we got her in '09 LC. :-\ Although you can argue that there is a new enough "freshness" to the figure, I didn't know there were so many similarities between her Slave Girl outfit and Deleted Scene outfit. It makes sense, though, being they went straight from the Sail Barge to the Falcon.

Man, Hasbro finally makes Aurra Sing and Ric Olie, and they're limited to Walmart?! This is just great. I have absolutely no Walmarts within 2 hours driving distance away from me. :-\

I'm crossing my fingers that Hasbro goes absolutely insane on this Maul figure - ball-jointed hips, elbows, the works. The snarling-looking face looks awesome, too!

Quinlan Vos was definitely an unexpected choice. I'll definitely be picking it up, because I hate the CP versions so much. In the display galleries you can even see that his hair is a separate-molded piece! Kudos on that, Hasbro. ;D

Sidious is a very nice-looking figure. What's that black bundle next to him in the slide picture?

I think the nostalgia of the packaging has swayed a lot of folks, more than the toys themselves.

That's absolutely true. If this were any other line besides TVC, it probably would have been canceled and rebooted a long time ago because of poor sales due to distribution problems.

Is that supposed to be some sort of jetboard Saessee has on his back??

I'm pretty excited for the continuation of the Nightsisters arc. It'll no doubt go out with a bang if Savage's story ends this season. Which I'm hoping it won't. Maybe he has a climatic face-off with Ahsoka as the series finale?

I'm stunned that the panel at SDCC didn't include a new trailer, like last year's! Oh well, the new season is approaching, anyway.

The Phobos looks pretty sick and after playing the game a few days ago I recognized the troopers and they show up pretty frequently... I'm just puzzled about the Starkiller choice. There's so many outfits he wears throughout the game, so I wonder why Hasbro chose the look that he actually didn't wear in the story.

The little card-thing in front of Ponda Baba at SDCC indicates August or September, I think. I would imagine the rest of this wave hits in between that time frame.

I saw pictures of Savage in the Hasbro booth from SDCC. One word. AWESOME.

Ralph Fiennes' interpretation of Voldemort was beyond words. He definitely is one bad-ass villain. With Vader you see a tragic villain and you feel sympathy with him, but you just wanna hate Voldemort. And to top it all of there's many in-depth scenes in the film where see Voldemort at his emotional weakest. You hardly ever see a villain in a movie like this, I thought it was so interesting to see it.

I saw the film twice and I was both awe-struck in many ways and let down in a few ways, as I thought some of the action sequences were lacking. To say that the series went out with a bang is definitely true. I was definitely an emotion wreck that the series was over, more so than when ROTS came out. I grew up with the Prequel Trilogy only, but I grew up with the entire Harry Potter film franchise.

I agree with what Jesse said, the set does seem very uninspired. I was shocked to see Darth Phobos in the picture, considering she only appears in the PS2 version! She's not even essential to the game/story. Isn't that outfit that Starkiller is wearing the outfit that he wears at the very end of the game, when he fights Vader and Palpatine?

The fact that there's already a new packaging sample ready to be used around February when the film is re-released doesn't exactly bode well for TVC. Hasbro said TVC would last until at least 2012. I would think that the last TVC wave hits around late December/early January 2012 and then the line get rebooted in late January/early February.

I think since 2007 we've been getting pretty outstanding stuff myself...  I don't honestly look at the Vintage Collection being superior to Build-A-Droid, or even 30AC in most cases.  Hell, 30AC was such a collector-whore year that I'll forever favor it more...

Whenever I look at the realistic Hasbro Star Wars line, I think TVC is the uppermost tier of quality we've gotten thus far. TLC/LC cut it close, but nearly all of the figures we're getting in TVC these days are flawless. I personally think that Fordo is perhaps the best action figure sculpt we've ever gotten! And figures are starting to include tons more of accessories.

Then again, maybe Hasbro realized that with the crazy prices we're paying, it's time they upped the game a little.
