Saga '02-'04 / Re: Toys-R-Us finds

Don't mean to split hairs, but when you say "trilogy figures", I hope you mean Star Wars Trilogy.  Because there really is room for only one true "trilogy".

Good to hear that the TRU manager explained why things are taking so long to get back to normal.  It makes you wonder how TRU can cry about being beat by Wal-Mart and Target when they take a month to do invintory, and stock very little new product.  It's like they don't even try during January.

I second the nomination for a new, properly scaled Snowspeeder.  I think it's the only vehicle Hasnro has ever made that was too big!
If you look at the snowspeeder closely, it's not much longer than two guys sitting back to back.  It could be a small, cool little toy.

Original Trilogy Collection?

New "Vinatge" Style Collection?

Saga?

This all sounds like good stuff, but very confusing for retailers.

I wonder if the OTC "Dagobah" wave is taking up where "Saga" leaves off.  But where does that leave the prequels?

Hmmm....Episodes 7, 8, and 9?   I'll believe it when it's official.  I just can't figure out what they would really be about.

However, if they featured Mark Hamill in a big role I think it would be cool.  Honestly, I could do without Han, Leia, Lando even though I love 'em.  Have you seen Hamill lately with the beard?  He kind of looks like a bad azz.

Give me Luke, the Droids, a wookie, and and make the rest new.

To me, the figures represent the visual end of Star Wars.  And while I I do really enjoy the PT, I think the prequels are lacking in character and focus. However, they are everything I ever dreamed of visually.  The designs are top notch.  So, no, I never considered not buying prequel figures.

The other problem with the current shipping practices is that with certain figures showing up in more than one assortment/case it makes it kind of difficult to buy cases without getting stuck with repeats.

Don't get your hopes up for Toy Fair.  Remember, last year we only saw that puny Clone Wars display with 1 or 2 new figures.  It was later, in April, that we saw all of the Saga stuff.  I don't remember where the Saga stuff was revieled.  Was it a Con, or some other Hasbro Trade show?

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode 3 Figures (SPOILERS)
« on: January 1, 2004, 12:57 PM »
I think Grevious is a good choice because he will be introduced in the last episode of the Clone Wars cartoon.

I like the idea above about keeping them in the same package, but with a sticker.  I think retailers had no idea what to do with the preview figs once E2 came out.

Personally, as much as I like droids, I'd prefer anything over a generic R2 unit again.

Oh, and Bruce Spence is actually in the movie in heavy make-up.

Maybe Hasbro will make the Republic Firefighter guy, or one of the new Wookies.  I'd dig some new Wooks.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage Style Figures from Hasbro???

I agree, if it's just rereleased figures from 77-85, big deal.  I've got them, and most people interseted in Vintage have them.  But of Hasbro makes new vinatge style sculpts of OT or PT figures, I'll be in SW heaven.

Hey Nick, you can talk all you want about New Jersey stores and finds at  your NJ site, but I think if you're finding stuff in NY, and NYC, you should share with us too.

It is just so typical of people from NJ to benefit from NYC, and do nothing to support New Yorkers!

(I'm joking.  I grew up in NJ!)

I gotta agree with Nick.  As a Queens, NY, resident I've been seeing lots of Saga and Clone Wars.  In fact, I found Elan and Padme at a K-mart  last weekend, Bail and teh Dignitary at a Target the week beofre.   And I too found an Ultra 3PO tonight at TRU.  He was the last one.

However, I'm sure it will be like this until X-mas, but after that I think things will dry up like last year.
If that happens, I will consider ordering online.

Yeah, the popularity of the Screen Scenes has been surprising.  They are great sets, and Hasbro should be proud of them, but they are clogging shelves at this point.  I would have hoped that Hasbro knew not to over produce them since they are filled with mostly secondary characters.

I had high hopes for the Screen Scene line to continue, but at this point it seems to be a failure.

These look excellent.  I can't complain one bit.

About  R1's scale, it looks like he takes up the entire bubble top to bottem. (Look at the Jedi Luke, you can see his feet in the bubble.) That alone would make the droid very tall.

Mainlando, your idea is pretty accurate, but things have changed over the years.  In 2001, I found most of my POTJ figures at Electronic Boutique and Software ETC.  They were pricey, but reliable.  I found very little POTJ at regualr toy reatil.  The problem is that EB and Software Etc. no longer carry Star Wars.  Next year could be very dicey.
