Bill Cosby - Thanks so much for all the info and clarification on the ET DVD stuff.  It helps a lot to know what I'm looking for, and the whole story behind that mess.  Much appreciated..thanks again.

To make it really right, they should have given everyone a copy of this:

I played the Atari E.T. several weeks ago at a friend's house.  And, over twenty years later, it's still just as awful as it ever was.  And for an "experienced" gamer like myself, you'd think maybe it would have gotten a little easier for me.  But nope, I was still running around like a fool, hardly having any semblance of an idea on where I was supposed to go next.  Around the sixth or seventh time I fell in a pit, I said to hell with it, and moved onto the next.

Anyone care to go spelunking in New Mexico?

No reason to go looking for that treasure...

Quote
In this case the rumor was accurate, although it wasn't the first time Atari had destroyed cartridges, nor was E.T. the only game dumped in New Mexico. (Rumor had it that Atari's Borregas Street warehouse sat atop crushed and buried game cartridges as well.) Some other video game manufacturers attempted to rid themselves of excess inventory by selling it at sharply reduced prices, but Atari, stuck with millions of games and consoles that were largely unsellable at any price, sent fourteen truckloads of merchandise from their plant in El Paso, Texas, to be dumped in a city landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico in late September 1983. In order to keep the site from being looted, steamrollers crushed and flattened the games, and a concrete slab was poured over the remains.

Not that it's not fun to talk about how much Atari E.T. sucks, but back on topic for a moment.

Here's an interview the Digital Bits did with the senior Vice-President of Pioneer at CES:

Link

Pretty interesting, if you're following the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war.  He gets into that, as well as why Pioneer went with Blu-Ray over HD-DVD, as well as how Blu-Ray will compare with standard DVD, and how they will coexist together for the next few years.

Good read.

Thanks for the link.  For the first time I feel informed on the Blu Ray transition, and a whole lot less anxious.

Yep, thanks.  This was the critical point I think:

And when you consider that we have seven out of eight major Hollywood studios now supporting Blu-ray Disc... and the other format has three... it's really hard to imagine how a consumer could look at that and say, "You know, I think I want to go with the format with less support."

I remember the VHS vs BETA discussion of yore and BETA was clearly better, but not well supported.  I'm pleased to see the better quality=better support this time around.

Guess I'm waiting on a 1080p projector as well.

Just blew some big bucks on Movies at Deep Discount. Got some things I've wanted for a long time now, and fun stuff too. I'm still surprised at how cheap the Apes movies were though, thats just an excellent buy. $28 dollars I believe.

I think I'll also stand on Kung Pow being an Underrated feature, but that will never make it a great movie either. hehe. I just found it very funny in the theatre, so said why not, I'll toss that into my purchase.

I'd try and cancel the POTA set, being that it's the old edition. The new release, with all the movies in Anamorphic widescreen is being released 3/28 for about $37.. Click me..

..or if you've got $125 to blow, there's always this...
