Celebration V has been confirmed for 2010!
Hasbro launched a new Clone Wars Diorama contest (http://hasbro.promotions.com/starwars/page.do?page=splash.html) and one of the parts of the grand prize is that the winner will ..."have their scene displayed at the 2010 Star Wars Celebration!"
I wonder if LFL is going to be ticked that Hasbro leaked it before they could give it the big announcement treatment at Friday's panel? :P

Fantastic news.
As a side note, I saw the diorama that was put together for CIV by a few JDers. It was awesome. 8)

Almost there, just need the location & then let the games begin. ;D 8)

Internets, it's a wonderful thing. :D

Ah ha! I figured it must have been changed. Anyway, good news all around!

I'll be entering that contest. :)
-
It's been confirmed by LFL, but no location or date release yet.

From the G4 blog:
5:56 Stephen Johnson: The next Star Wars Celebration will be held in....
5:57 Stephen Johnson: oops. there is no exact time or place, but Star Wars Celebration 5 will be held next summer.
Yeah, that narrowed it down. Summer in the US is like what, Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day weekend? (May-September).
How in Sam's hell can you make an announcement on CV if you don't have a place or date yet. Nice blunder! ::)

Perhaps Hasbro jumping the gun forced LFL to make the announcement that it would be happening but couldn't go into detail for contractual reasons such as the paperwork not being set in stone, an agreed upon method for making the announcement (G4 is showing the spectacular tomorrow, perhaps the details are to come there in added bit), or maybe the Lucas gang just likes ******* with us.

From StarWars.com's ComicCon coverage (http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/2009/07/24/report-from-the-star-wars-spectacular-2009/):
Sansweet teased that next year is the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, and that it’s the perfect opportunity for a Star Wars Celebration. “We don’t have yet have an exact date or place, but we are in the planning stage of Star Wars Celebration V, coming to your galaxy next summer.”
-
All said, it's the same **** I knew about last year. Maybe we will get a 5 month notice like what was it, Celebration Japan? ::)

I'm still voting for Minneapolis. I know the MN guys would be bummed, but I could drive that one.

We would be bummed? I would love it if it were here!

I second that! Please have it here in Minneapolis!

I think an East Coast city would be nice. Boston has a nice, big, fairly new convention center (hint, hint).

Really? I guess it's not the same facility that Wizard World tried using a few years ago. That place was a dump.
I think Orlando might be a good choice. It's got pretty good convention facilities, and it's very family friendly. And with all of the theme parks around there's loads of hotel capacity.
Just not LA again, please. The area around the convention center stunk.

Really. WW was held at the Bayside Expo Center (http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2009/07/17/bayside_expo_center_to_reopen_under_new_management/) (and it is a dump, I used to work in the office building there). I'm suggesting the Boston Convention Center (http://www.bostonconventioncenter.com/). Plenty of hotels in the city, plenty of bars, close to public transportation, plenty of bars, quick ride from Logan Airport, plenty of bars, plenty to do for those not interested in a geekfest, excellent restaurants and have I mentioned, plenty of bars?
-
Plenty of bars? I'm in. Need to drag Colman out of hiding though, he has the best Guiness.
-
Yes, but being the 30Anni of Empire, a cold, snowy place like Minnesota would fit right in. ;D
-
Oh I'm definitely in favor of Minnesota, as I've already been thrown out of several bars in your little burg. I know where to go and lots of people there and I'm very familiar with the city. Easy driving distance too. Dale could fly here and drive down with me ;)

Shiny! Sounds like I know who I'm hanging with - especially is you pull Colman out of his own butt.
-
Man, if Colman showed up I'd go just about anywhere. I'm hoping to be back down in San Diego again next year anyway in November/December. He drove down last time I was there, so maybe again. But we did have a blast at CIII.

Rumors that CV will be on the East Coast in May for the 30th Anniv. of ESB

Posted by Galen_Marek on RS:
I just got back from the Panel.
Here are the key points.
Definitely happening next "summer." However, May is usually considered "summer."
They are hammering out a final contract with their convention organization, or whatever they call it. He expects to have the contract finalized within "a couple of weeks." He also made it very clear it will be announced online, NOT at a convention.
Once the contract is signed, they will work out a venue and dates. He wants to have it East of the Mississippi, but it's not like the Olympics with five official "candidate" cities. Any city that has a convention center would be considered.
That's it.
-
If it isn't going to be here in Denver again I think I'm really hoping that CV is in Chicago or Minne. Both are within reasonable driving distance for me and are fairly centrally located. Much further east and it is going to be tough for me to get there.
-
St. Paul is east of the Mississippi
-
So is Pittsburgh. :) Of course there's nowhere to stay and no public transport, but I can dream!
