Title: Cars
Post by: JayDouble on June 7, 2006, 02:53 PM
Anyone collecting this line?

I started with the diecast because they're on sale right now at Target.

I also picked up a few of the Shake-n-Go Cars for my god son.

I haven't collected any of these or anything (or seen the movie yet), but after reading your comments I took a minute to check the displays at our local Targets/Wal-Marts this weekend - not a single car to be found.  They had the other odd stuff, plush style, larger talking things, etc. - but no sign of the basic "cars" on the pegs (the $3 or so ones).  3 Wal-Marts and 2 Targets, all sold out, and at Target all of the "rain check" tags were torn out and gone as well.  This line must be crazy hot right now, just kind of interesting to see.

We got an email update on these at work (Target) and it was giving options for the end cap and how to merchandise it since these are selling so damn well and we can't keep them in stock long enough for the vendor to replenish them.  Our endcap is totally bare right now, no diecast at all.  I opened up 6 cases one day and there was no Chick or Sarge.

Since I started paying attention, I've seen exactly one of these on the pegs - the other day at Target.  It was the (regular) Lightning McQueen - and the only one there.  I'm sure its long gone now.  Its amazing to me how hot these are right now, I feel bad for parents trying to find them for their kids.

Thank you. It really does suck.

We went to the movie yesterday afternoon. I took our two oldest kids (6 & 3) to Target afterward to look for a few cars and they had the tipping tractor and some playset that came with Mator and a build-a-Mator thing. We left the toys they had there.

It's sad, but we've gotten more Cars toys by luck from McDonald's over the last month or so. Both kids got McQueen, and one each of Doc, Sally, Ramone and Mator. If these Happy Meal toys hold up at all, we may just bypass the Hot Wheels type at retail all together.

I actually saw some of these this weekend.  At KB toys they had tons of the red McQueen, and a handful of the tow truck (Mater?) and nothing else.  I stopped to check SW at Wal-Mart this morning (nothing new), and it looked like they were freshly stocked with Cars as well.  I didn't check which ones they had (don't really know the names anyways - haven't seen the movie yet), but the pegs were full for the first time this year.
Title: Re: Cars
Post by: ruiner on June 26, 2006, 02:21 PM
These are sooo hard to find in my area.  All I've seen (and purchased) have been McQueen, Doc and Mater.

The only thing left on the pegs are the friction powered plastic cars.

It doesnt' look like we're getting any more in.  My nephew was lucky enough to get some for his b-day from people, but he's not really that into them.  He may get more into them once he sees the movie.

My Walmart put up a fresh case yesterday. You should've seen the people digging through those things. It's like beanie baby mania all over again  ::). I never realized how popular they were until I saw the poor stock clerk get bombarded by customers. He didn't look too happy when he saw the mess they were creating...

Jeez, did Mattel drop the ball too early on these and stop production?  My Wal-Mart doesn't even have the peg hook tags out anymore.

My son really likes these and I try to get him one every couple weeks when we go grocery shopping but there's nothing left in the CARS section but ****.

And when I say ****, I mean the stuffed cars and overpriced lights n sounds Lightning.  That's it.

That's all I've noticed lately as well, particularly at Wal-Mart.  I haven't looked at Target lately I guess, I don't know what they are carrying.  I was always tempted to pick one or two up (why I don't know), but never did.  It would be strange if they stopped production, it seems like this is one of the hottest toys of the year.

I've been seeing some more of these around the area, but places like Walmart and Target look to be dried up...I saw the 2 packs last week at Target and they only had one of each but sold out when I popped in later the following week. KB Toys seems like the best bet. I wound up getting a Wingo, Dinoco McQueen, and a Sally last Saturday (They had tons of Lightning McQueens and Maters). Another place to add is Advanced Auto Parts. I had to stop in today to pick up some motor oil and a gas cap for my rodeo. Their was a display in the front of the store for the movie Cars, they had a few 2 packs (the ones with Snotrod, etc) priced at $7.99....
Title: Disney/Pixar CARS
Post by: bamaker on November 16, 2006, 05:51 PM
Anybody else here collecting these things.  I remember when they first came out, I would pick them up, look at them, carry them around, but ultimately would just put them down.  For the longest time, I was able to resist.   Then recently a good friend of mine's son became very ill, and as a care-package I bought him some Cars toys, and thought "why not" and bought myself a couple.   Now I can't stop.   I finally completed getting the first 16 cars (Series 1 & 2), and I've been able to find a few of the Series 3 (Supercharged), but I'm still missing Dirt Track McQueen, Radiator Springs McQueen, Blue Mater, and Hamm.  I'm also still on the look for all the new Movie Moments 2-packs.

These things are great, and I'm really enjoying the hunt.   So anybody else out there into these things?
Title: Re: Cars
Post by: ruiner on November 27, 2006, 12:28 PM
Oh yeah, I'm always looking for the newest ones.  I buy them for junior but I kind of wish I would have kept them for myself!  He's plays with them so much that they all have dings and paint rubs.

Still looking for the newest 2 packs and singles (blue Mater, dirt track McQueen, etc.)...especially the Toy Story vehicles.

Title: Re: Cars
Post by: Scott on November 30, 2006, 05:20 PM
My boys are big time in to the movie right now

I've been buying stuff to surprise them at Christmas...right now I have amassed:

2 each

Chick Hicks
Radiator Springs McQueen
Doc
King
Sally and Cruisin McQueen Two Pack
Red and Stanley
Ramone and Flo
Sarge and Fillmore
Sherriff
Dinoco McQueen

1 each

Hudson Hornet Doc
Lizzie
Leak Less

Today I was able to pick up the Buzz and Woody pack for them, I think that should about do it, Grandparents are buying them the Playsets.  They already both have a Mack, McQueen and Mater and they love them to death.  My sister got them some cheap Disney Store plastic versions, many of which have already broken.  So hopefully the die cast ones will last longer.  I'm also going to pass on the Hot Rods, Ramone variants.  I still need to track down the Luigi, Guido and Tractor packs and I should be set

As far as future stuff, I really can't see much they haven't made yet outside some of the bigger cameo stars (Bob Costas, Dale Jr, Darrel Waltrip, Sherryl Crow, Jay Leno, Mrs the King etc)

Grandpa is a sales rep so he's always in the stores before they open and wouldn't you know, he's found all of the new ones including Nitroade and Leakless.

I think we're all caught up with the exception of Buzz and Woody.

I, too, skipped the Ramone variants - we get our share of repaints with the SW junk.

Post by: Mikey D on December 8, 2006, 08:20 AM
Well, I've gone and done it.  I picked up the Woody / Buzz 2 pack, RS McQueen, Leakless and Blue Mater last night.  Aidan's not quite old enough to play with them yet, but he did enjoy watching the movie with me so I'll keep them for later (kind of like the Galactic Heroes stuff).  I'm not too worried about catching up, they seem to be pretty common around here and plus with all the two packs and BJs gift sets, I should be able to get the rest fairly easily.

Just another thing to add to the collection.

You know which ones I can't find (other than Hamm, which I understand being so hard to find) - King, Chick and Dinoco McQueen single packs and the Flo / purple Ramone two pack.  I've seen tons of blue Maters, RS McQueens, DT McQueens, Leaklesses, Nitroades, different colored Ramones, Buzz / Woodys, etc.  The three Piston Cup contenders continue to elude me.

I think they're scheduled to arrive with the Monsters, Inc. cars.  There have been a few sightings on ebay but nothing substantial yet.  I would imagine they will be hitting in mass shortly.

Still need Hamm, Chick, King and Dinoco McQueen to complete my basic set and a few of the Movie Moments sets (Flo / Ramone, Guido / Luigi / Tractor and Red / Stanley) before the new stuff hits.

Yep, that be the one I saw.  A couple of the two packs like that were about as well.  I presume that one is a three pack because they're all so small.

Whilst you guys are prowling the car aisles, remember I need Hot Wheels Classics Camaros or Mustangs (orange cards, $3,99 at TRU).  Series 2 is just wrapping up, Series 3 hitting soon (I know there's a '69 Camaro, but not sure about a Mustang) :P :-*

I didn't see any today Brent, so if you could grab one for me that'll be great.  I also need the purple Ramone and Flo pack if you see it (the only one I haven't seen yet.  I saw the LGT set one time and didn't buy it and haven't seen it since).

Okee dokee, adding purple Ramone (is there another color for it?) and Flo as well.  What do these retail for down south (just want to know so I can justify my insane laughter when I actually check the price on them up here)?
Title: Re: Cars
Post by: Mikey D on January 4, 2007, 03:20 PM
Purple Ramone is the only color that comes with Flo.  There's also a single carded purple Ramone but since Flo doesn't come in a single pack, I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone with that set.

Single packs are anywhere from $3.30 to $3.99 and the two packs average around $7 each.

Thanks.  I was concerned there might be two versions (no idea why they'd do that, musta been thinking of clones).  That set was at the same store as Luigi and friends.  We'll see if they're both still there.  Gimme a couple of days please.

Wow, these have totally dried up around here.  Anything that was left post Christmas is gone.  Talking to a couple of retailers and this was THE toy line for them this year, apparently putting a sizable hit on Hot Wheels even, though those sold well as stocking stuffers in the end.

No help from me for Mikey/Dan at this point, sorry fellas.  I'll keep looking, but lmk if you find what you want before I do.

Our situation is just the opposite here - nothing on the pegs pre-Xmas and now it's quite easy to find almost every character.

They're really nice vehicles - from the detailed tampos (see Chick and Filmore) to the shiny paint jobs, they are quality die cast toys.

Just the right scale too.

I didn't see any Hamms or Dinoco McQueens on ebay looking quickly, but Hamm is the pig from Toy Story done as a car and Dinoco McQueen is Lighting McQueen just in blue (see King's color).

Yeah.  I think Schumacher is scheduled in the next case to hit, which should be shortly.  After that, it's the Toy Fair cars (yeti, Dinoco Chick and the McQueen repaints).  I would think those would be out by the summer.

After that, who knows.  There's rumors of a bunch of new stuff coming - Cartrip and Cutlass, Mia and Tia, Tex, etc, but nothing's been confirmed yet.

Title: Re: Cars

Green, yellow and purple.  Purple is available both as a single pack and in the two pack with Flo.

Upcoming is the above red one and the red and white flashback one.

I think the only other color he was in the movie was from the end race when he was painted red with yellow lightning bolts to support Lightning McQueen.  He was also blue in the short film Mater and the Ghost Light from the DVD, but I don't know if Mattel will produce something not technically seen in the movie.

(As you can probably tell, I've seen this movie way too much.  The boy loves it.)

No kidding :o

I've only seen it a couple of times and only have a passing interest in the cars to help you guys out if I can.  I knew I'd seen Ramone in more than one color, so was curious to see how many.

Anyone else get the feeling that toy lines are a driving factor in movie design issues?  Multi-colored clone troopers, multiple paint jobs for Cars....  Marketing driving a movie?  Nah, not at Disney or LucasFilm.

Folks over on the Spawn board have been talking about the tongue and bug-face McQueen being out very, very recently, so start looking for them now.  Don't know about your other questions though, sorry.

The following are out now, some more readily available than others:

No Fin Cruising McQueen (either in a single pack or two pack with Sally)
Michael Schumacher
Bug Faced McQueen
Bling Bling McQueen - blue with rims
Tongue McQueen
Dinoco Chick Hicks
Hydraulic Ramone (red)
flashback Ramone (red and white)
RPM #64
Tex
Yetti

Other than the above posted listing, the others haven't been officially confirmed yet.  No pics, no word from Mattel, etc.  Maybe something at SDCC?

Did they ever make a Frank Combine die-cast vehicle or Mack (besides those big playsets)?

No Frank, but Mack has been released - although he's not a diecast, but plastic.  His trailer does open to a playset, but I keep it closed and it works pretty well with the rest of the cars.

My son loves this movie.  It's either Cars or Nemo that he wants to watch.  I must have seen this movie at least 20 times already.

Another 80 times and you'll catch up the number of viewings I've had of the Little Mermaid :'(

There's also this version of Mack, which include a car transport trailer vs. the opening playset trailer.

You can make a Frank pretty easy - ERTL makes a 1/64 Case IH Combine that can be modified somewhat easily.

Just an FYI for you Cars collectors, the Supercharged Sarge Car was part of the latest Mattel recall involving lead paint. I've bought a couple of these cars, and some I've given to my little girls. I have a Sarge that has the lead paint problem, but thankfully hadn't yet given it to my girls. I'll follow up to let you know how smooth/unsmooth the recall process is.

Yeah i saw the recall too. I have to check my Sarge. On a side note, i fianlly found Yeti.

My boy got some Cars for his birthday recently.  Sarge was one of them.  I suspected it was a recall one and just confirmed it.  Filled out the required information and will send him back.

Fortunately, he doesn't really put things in his mouth and he really didn't play with Sarge much (he likes McQueen, Mack and for some reason Fillmore), so my concern was kept to a minimal.  Still, better safe than sorry.

I found RPM64, Bling Bling McQ, Dinoco Chick Hicks, Ferarri, Yeti and Red Ramone yesterday.  Still need Tongue McQ, Bug McQ, Red Rims Hudson Hornet, Cruising Ramone and Tex

My boys are super pumped for the Piston Cup Racers and ask to look at the pictures over and over.

I saw a couple of the new 2-packs (Mia & Tia, The King & Mrs. The King) at a local Wal-Mart this afternoon.

Post by: stormie on September 14, 2007, 01:46 PM
It seems like all the stores I've checked lately have none of the diecast at all; not even space for them. I figured it was a result of the Sarge recall, but now that I see others still finding these, I'm suspicious.

It's too bad I can't find any, now, I've got my youngest hooked on them as a reward for potty training. So much so, that she isn't satisfied with the standard Matchbox/Hotwheel anymore.  ::)

Kids.

Well, if you shop at Target they have no way in their inventory to separate Sarge from the rest of the Cars.  Evne though you may buy a Mater, Lightning and Sarge your receipts and the way they stock all fall under the same DPCI# and as such they can't really differentiate in their system.  When the recall came that one part of the whole DPCI needed to be recalled they had to pull all of the single packs from the shelves even though it is only one bad apple in the whole damn bunch.  Wal-Mart and K-Mart around here still have them both since they price and invetory each individual item.  Not sure why Target didn't just go through and pull Sarge but they didn't

Hey guys, I just started picking these up as my 2 and 3 year olds finally saw the movie for the first time last week.  I went on a little spending spree today and ended up 11 total.  I still could have picked up about 10 more...  I did end up seeing the Bug-Faced McQueen, Yeti, Bling-Bling McQueen, Dinoco McQueen and others today so if anyone is still looking for certain ones, shoot me a PM or post which ones you are looking for and I'll keep my eyes open for them.

Does anyone have a checklist of all these?

Picked up 4 of the 8 Wal-Mart exclusives tonight:

Cactus McQueen
Al Oft the Lightyear Blimp
Ghostlight Ramone
TJ Hummer

At Wal-Mart...there was no sign of the other 4 (Kori Turbowitz, Bruiser Bukowski, Piston Cup Pace Car and Barney Stormin) but these were in mass abundance in a Cars display

Well, received my $7 voucher in the mail the other day. It's good for any Mattel/Fisher-Price product. The whole process was pretty smooth and I'm actually surprised at how quickly I received it; I was thinking it would be many, many months.

Too bad they couldn't send you a new Sarge - he'll be pretty tough to track down at retail.

Speaking of retail - what should I be looking for?

I have no clue who's available outside of the eight? WM exclusives.

I just found out about the Michael Schumacher Ferrari (where have I been, right?)... my dad's a big fan of the guy (the actual racer  ;) ) Thought I might pick one up. The local TRU is backlogged with all the older figures, local Target didn't carry the smaller diecasts... Any pointers?

I saw these all over the place out by me over the last month.  The next time I go on a run, I'll take a look for one and let you know if I run across it.

Found a lone Darryl Cartrip (New World of Cars packaging) at Target.  Then at Shopko, they had an entire wall of the new 2 Packs and picked up the last Fred and Dusty Rusteeze and finally got a Mrs and Mr King pack.  Still looking for:

Dale Jr

Is the PT Flea/Flick 2-pack out yet?  My wife collects the Pixar-reference cars, so I look for those while I'm out.  I hated the movie and hate looking at the cars so if I'm searching for no reason it would be nice to know.  :P

I picked up the latest Launchers for my boys from an online vendor this last week (Mood Springs, Easy Idle, Retread and Fiber Fuel).  But what is really whacky is what is happening with the mainline.  As far I can tell, there are lenticular (moving) eyes Cars as well as the old style still going to be shipping.  It may or may not be that the old style will be Target exclusives.  Add to the shift to real rubber tires on some of the newer upcoming Piston Cup racers and other styling changes and it adds up to super confusion across a fairly successful toy line.  I just don't get the shift so late in the game :-\

This might be a bit of old news, but I just saw it for the first time today.  I have to admit, aside from our daughter having a handful of the Cars cars, I didn't get too into hunting these down, but these new Disney exclusives are kind of neat.  I wouldn't mind the R2/3PO pack, or the Leia one for our daughter.
