I used the #41 Clone and decorated him using Citadel acryllics.

Much better than the one I made, and looks better than the Hasbro version too.  Really straight clean lines in painting - awesome!

I agree, those lines look great!  The blue looks good too.  Did you mix it yourself?

Hey Errex, cool to see you over here too!
This is probably the busiest customs forum that is still able to maintain a high level of quality with the customs.  Everybody here is great, I'm glad you joined up!

Actually, I just used Citadel's Ultramarine Blue.

The thing about getting the lines straight is using masking tape (I hear there is also  a masking fluid, but I have not tried it yet) and very thin paint to get a basic outline, and later on fill in the rest of the shapes.

The only tricky part was to  cut very thin, straight rectangles of tape to mask the center line of the torso and the space between the leg stripes, and then place the outer edge masks.

It still required a bit of cleaning and touch up's afterwards, but the nice thing about acryllics is that most of the  clean-up could  be done with just a toothpick.

Thank you all for your comments, and Gregorbian, I'm just awed at what you can do with a microman body.  ;D

Interesting I used the Enchanted Blue on my 501st.

Your trooper looks very good - I think the masking was outstanding!!

Wouldn't it be easier to just make custom decal instead of masking everything off?

I personally don't like the look of decals on customs, at least in terms of "straight" lines.  I think decals look fine for emblems and logos, but I think they tend to look "off" for straight lines such as what would be found on Shocktrooper or 501st Clone legs.  At least from what I've seen, the edges of the sticker are usually visible and stand out.

Do you use a kit to print out decals?  When I print out Boba Fett logos I use clear label sheets (they are thin, but they are not totally clear).

First, nice custom work, paint job looks great, I can't get enough of them Clone Customs.

I picked up the Citadel Ultramarine Blue a couple weeks ago & it's a great match for the 501st customs.   I also picked up from Hobby Lobby in the model aisle the Ambroid EZ Mask, I tried it on a few customs this weekend and works like a champ.  You just brush it on, let it dry, and then cut out the area or shape to be painted with the X-Acto.

That looks REALLY good, and believe me...I know a thing or two about painting clones.  ;D

If I had to add anything,  I'd lose the Hasbro "weathering" and add your own, though...it would look a lot more authentic.
