Customizing Tips and Tricks / Custom Clones - Clean or Dirty?

This is a two part question for all of you customizers and non-customizers alike.

a) When you see (or make) custom Clones, do you prefer clean ones or battle worn, dirty armor ones?

b) Is there such a thing as too much battle wear or weathering? Can it be overdone?

a) Me personally, I prefer looking at and making battle worn, dragged through the mud, haven't seen a refresher in weeks Clones. It just adds to the level of "realism" (if that's even possible, given that they are not real in any way, shape, or form). I just think it makes a figure look 10x better - if not more - to add some wash and weathering to it.

b) This is a tuff question to answer. I just did a quick wash on one of my #6 Clones as a "test" and I'm wondering if it's not too much. It looks like he's been in battle for weeks without cleaning his armor, and on the one hand I like it. But on the other hand, it almost looks like I tried to paint the armor a Gray color, and just did a bad job of it. I'll post a pic later tonight if I can, if not tomorrow.

What do you guys think?

Star Wars Action Figures / jokabofe's customs updated 5/10 - Ultimate Vader and Anakin

Unfortunately, I don't have much time for customizing anymore. I used to work on projects constantly, but then "real life" just got in the way. Nowadays, I sit around and talk about figures that I want to make, and come up with loads of ideas, but just never get the time to sit down and actually work on any of them.

Today, I found the Jedi vs Sith Battle Pack, and was excited because it contained a figure that I had wanted for the longest time - General Obi Wan in Clone Wars Armor. But when I took the figure and the parts out of the pack, and tried to put him together, it was just... crap. Horrible. I remember seeing the figure at C3 and thinking it was ****, but hoping that when I actually got it in my hands, it would be better. But - it was worse.

So I decided to make my own, out of the parts that I could salvage from this crappy version (pretty much the head, helmet, cape, and lightsaber) and an extra ROTS #38 Tank Gunner body that I happened to have lying there. I dremeled out the inside of Obi's head a bit since the AT TE Gunner has a looong neck peg, then cut the "armor" from the cape. Put the head on the body, and put the cape over the top - done. The only thing I don't like about it, and I'm trying to figure out a way around it, is the belt that is molded onto the cape part. I'd like to get rid of it, but it would mean breaking the cape ends off, and then trying to fix that would take me another 18 months  ;)




Oh, and just BTW - the last custom I made was back in March of 2004, I made this Clone Wars Animated Yoda.

Well, it looks like the time has come to start thinning out the collection - basically, I'm just desperate for some cash. So i'll be listing some stuff I want to get rid of here. All items come directly from me, a non-smoking adult collector with no pets and no kids.

MARVEL FIGURE FACTORY - highly detailed little statues that I found at TRU the other day.... was very intrigued by them, so I bought one.

Daredevil "Mystery Figure" - Red version - $6 (1 of 12 "Mystery Figures" that come blind packed. Comes in unopened plastic bag, with 4 trading cards/stickers: #1) Lizard, #22)Juggernaut, #45) Human torch, #58) Falcon - packaging included).

Prices do not include shipping. I'd like to ship only within the U.S. only because shipping outside the U.S. can get costly. But as long as you're willing to pay for it, I guess it's fine by me. I can only accept payment in the form of Money Orders at this time. No Paypal, no personal checks.

I'll be adding more stuff - lots more stuff - in the coming days/weeks. This stuff has to go, so I'll leave it here for a week or two before I go to ebay with it. So if you want it, ask now.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / FREE Moldmaking DVD by mail

I just got a DVD in the mail today that I signed up for. It was sent to me free of charge. I haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it just yet, but it is still available for free by mail to anyone who wants one. Just check out http://www.hobbycast.net/amazing.htm - fill out the form, and that's it. Your DVD should arrive in a few days/weeks.

Just an FYI - this is not some scheme where I make any money from people who sign up for this free DVD. I saw an offer for the DVD in the latest issue of Amazing Figure Modeler magazine (which is a great magazine, by the way. If you've never seen it, you should check it out. While it's not a customizing magazine per se, there are always plenty of great articles that can easily be used in our hobby as well). I just thought that some of you guys here would find it interesting. That website also sells all the supplies you'll need to start making your own molds and casting your own parts. Again, I've never ordered anything from them, so I don't know how good their products are, and I'm not getting paid for advertising for them  :P

Anybody else out there watching 'Lost' on ABC? I just finished watching the season finale, and quite frankly, I'm a little pissed. What the hell did I spend my last few months watching this show for? What was revealed by this episode? I think I'm even more lost now then I was before, if that's possible.

Can anybody make heads or tails out of what just transpired?

Revenge of the Sith / Does Army Building make me a bad person?

Does going out and buying up all the Army Building Clones that I can get my hands, even though I know they are hard to find and that I have friends (both local and online) that need them, make me a bad person?

Let's just say for the sake of argument that I have 20 AT-TE Tank Gunners - is that wrong?

Don't get me wrong - if I go to Target or Wal*Mart and find 20 Clone Commanders, I'm not going to buy them all. I might buy like 15 of them, but I will leave a few. However, if I find 4 or 5, I'll buy them all.

Am I no better than a scalper for doing this, even though they are all for me and I'm not going to turn around and sell them?

Episode 1 / Hardest Episode 1 figure to find?

I'm in the process of packing up my collection room for the time being ( :'( ) and was looking at some of my figures... and I was just wondering, what Episode 1 figure did you have the hardest time finding?

For me, since I'm a variation collector, I would have to say the Yoda w/Episode 1 Text was by far the hardest figure for me to find. Even though I am still trying to find an affordable loose Amidala Ascension and Pit Droid 2 pack, I could have had 20 of each back in the day, but didn't feel like paying the $10 each price at FAO Schwartz (if I only knew then what I know now, eh?)....

So what figure was the hardest for you to find?
