Title: What does your JD forum member name mean?
Post by: JediMAC on March 11, 2003, 11:20 PM
Well, we've gone far too long without handling this staple forum topic...

What's the meaning of your forum member name here?  Where does it come from?  As for me, mine's not too terribly creative.  JediMAC = Jedi (duh) + my initials...

So what about the rest of you...  Explain those crazy forum names out there to the rest of us!

Not much explaining for me, back in the day when I registered on the StarWars.com thing, I wanted the nickname 'TuskenRaider', but it was taken... so, I thought up the next coolest thing....

...Well, here I am.

Mine is simple. There are the initials of my name. Short & simple & easy to remember. Over at Snowtroopers, I am none as Vlix. That's the only site I use with that name. All the rest are DSJ. My avatar is the same all over too.  ;)

Well mne is refernce to my military days. I started using the id on the military sites and instead of trying to remember differnt ones for the other sites I kept it the same or close when it was already taken.

recon is the type of units I was in and Sgt was short for my rank which was sgt-SFC through out the years.

I came up with my name when I was over at the old CSW boards and looking at the EP2 spoilers and some one was saying how it could be possible that the young Kenobi might actually be Darth Vader and Anakin be the older Kenobi that we see in the OT.  So I took decided to use it.

Well.....if you know Zuckuss, you've fought half the battle.

My lucky number is 4, but 4 fours is too much, so I cut it down to two. Seems fine to me, so I kept it.

Half the time, I'm Zuckuss44, other times I'm Pizza the Hutt in honor of Space Balls.

Boba Binks

I came up with Boba Binks around Episode 1. At the time everyone's favorite character seemed to be Boba Fett and everyone seemed to hate Jar Jar Binks. So I put the two together and came up with Boba Binks - The most feared Bounty Hunter on Naboo.  :)

Well, I found myself thinking one day: Chewie is a very intelligent Wookiee, so in adverse, there must also be really dumb wookiees. Wookiees are pretty big creatures as well, so I couldn't help but toss together BigDumbWookiee. There has to be a lot of them in the Star Wars galaxy, and what's funnier than an idiotic animal that can rip your arms off? :)

Post by: Jango Fettish on March 19, 2003, 06:48 PM
Well, for those of you that don't know me from GH, RS, or the OBFFC, I am quite possibly the worlds biggest Jango Fett fan.

My devotion runs deeper than the normal fanboy. It's not the aesthetics of the character so much as it is the raw presence. Temuera Morrison is the embodiment of Jango Fett, and there is no one else that could play the role.

I currently have the worlds largest collection of Jango Fett memorabilia, and I pride myself on that!

I added two new items today as a matter of fact and those can been seen at http://www.angelfire.com/jangosapt/welcome (http://www.angelfire.com/jangosapt/welcome), also known as "Jango's Apartment".  :D

Post by: Mikey D on March 21, 2003, 04:24 PM
Mikey is a variation of Michael and the D stands for Davidson, my last name.  Very simple and to the point.  I was known as davidson over at SSG and the early stages of BHC.  When the option of the name change came, I've decided to change but keep it similar.  I'm known as Mikey D over at RS, GH, here and everywhere else I've registered.  If you see the name, it's most likely me.

The avatar is the number of my favorite Nascar driver, Robby Gordon, driver of the Chevy Monte Carlo Cingular Wireless car.  Now that football season is over and I no longer want to display the Pats logo and Nascar is the predominant sport I'll watch until football season begins, the change has been made.

dustrho...

dust = dusty (a nickname I have with some friends of mine)
rho = rhoads (1st three letters in my last name)

"dustrho" was my old Windows NT login name when I used to work at CDW back in 1998.  It just stuck as a better nickname than "Dusty" so that's my username for just about everything.

Well, 'Thomas' is my first name and 'Grey' is my middle name and I seem to be the only one who hasn't been given his true forum name back! I am totally normal! I am going to have to start rolling some heads around here!!! I get no respect at all!

My chosen and former forum name is 'Rorworr and if you refer to this thread, you can find out why (just cut and paste)...

http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=934;start=0;boardseen=1

The other reason why is that I had an uncanny resemblance to the elusive Sasquatch (and wookiees too I guess: see head-shot photo, circa 1992) and they in my mind are all about Wookiees.

FishEyedLouie, no it's not One Eyed Willie from the Goonies as someone once said...not to mention names *caugh* JediMac *caugh*

I used to play dominoes - often, and it is the slang word used when you get "5" points.

"Tension in the compound" = 10
"Three piece suit" =15

And boys and girls when you get twenty points you can slam the dominoe on the table and look fondly at your compadres across the table and yell...

"I'm going to go down to the Men's Warehouse and get a three piece suit and some shoes!"

Thomas... what can I possibly say about those pictures you showed us.  The first one looks like a picture taken while doing a fraternity prank.  The second picture looks like you just got off your Harley, and you're heading into the local tavern.  The third picture looks like a mugshot.

Obviously, I'm just kidding around, but can you explain where the third picture came from?  It does look like some sort of a mug shot.

My name was actually created by my girlfriend (soon to be fiancee) and is a strange concoction of Star Wars names that melded into this one.  She tries to learn some of the characters names, and was trying to list a few one day several years ago and somehow came up with Snively Bandar as one of them, to which I laughed.  I think she somehow mixed up Sy Snootles, Max Rebo Band, Dash Rendar, Dengar, and I can't remember which others.  We both thought it was such a funny sounding name, that we've used it jokingly ever since!   ;D

I was trying to use a Star Wars character name for my username on another site.  After trying over 10 different ones I realized that would never work.  I got lazy and stuck Darth in front of a nickname that people had been calling me at the time.   The letter B is for my first name Brian.  The Roem is the first 4 letters of my very long last name.  I used to have the nickname "Romeo."  So, I thought it would may be better to use Darth Romeo instead.  I thought about it and decided that it may just be a source for trouble instead :) So, Darth Broem was born and Darth Romeo was never meant to be.

That sounds pretty cool for a character.  Send me some pics for my daughter ;)

Morgbug - Morg is taken from Borg, a mentality some of my fellow moderators and I were accused of having at a site I used to moderate at.  Moderator + Borg = Morg.  Bug is in relation to my career of choice (yes, I said choice) - entomologist, ergo, bug.
Title: Re: What does your JD forum member name mean?
Post by: obi_robz on June 2, 2003, 10:36 AM
Mine is simply a combination of my fav SW character (Obi-Wan, obviously) and my own name (Rob). People often call me “Robs” so I use that as the second part of my name, although why I changed the “s” to a “z”, I’m not really sure.

It’s in lower case so I don’t have to use the shift key so much; basically it’s down to laziness. During my time at RS, I found that people usually insert capitals in the appropriate places and don’t use the underscore (“Obi-Robz”). I don’t mind that, but for me, that would be using the shift key twice instead of just once, so I’m sticking with “obi_robz”.

Taminar is a name I made up for my cat, back in 1980.  It was derived from "Tammany" because I had recently watched the first film version of "The Lathe of Heaven" on PBS, and there was a reference to a racehorse named "Tammany Hall" and I liked the Tammany and I was going to name the cat that, except it turned out to be a boy, and I didn't think Tammany sound masculine, so I reworked it. The cat, sadly, is long gone, although I do have a couple of his nephews (aged 16 and 18).  I use the name Taminar for my e-mail and a lot of different forums/member sites.

I was Slave_531 which was just my favorite Star Wars ship (Slave I), and my birthday (May 31). I changed my name to Diddly Squat, because a lot of the members at RS (Mostly n00bs)don't seem to know diddly squat (Bangs, Durge, etc.). Oh boy, I get to tell my tale again!!

When I was signing up at RS, I was looking for something that didn't really involve a Star Wars character's name or use the word 'Jedi', so my options were quite limited, as you can imagine. So, I initially came up with 'Lucas' Missing Integrity', based on my dislike at the time for the man. But, I didn't like it, and I gave up. A couple of days later I was going through my collection, and I realized I had something like 15 Darth Vader figures, and I noticed a lot of them had features that could easily have been combined, and therefore, less Vader figures. I figured Hasbro knew what they were doing, and had no integrity in the lot of them. (They are a corporation, after all.)

So BAM!!! Hasbro's Missing Integrity.

I shortened to HMI because it's handier and stuff. And it didn't fit anywhere else I tried to sign up at.

i.e. You Damn Guttersnipe.
Maybe it means what it says:
Gutter - Side of road or the lowest one can be (in the gutter)
Snipe - A wading bird (J/K) or, To snipe like sniper.

A carry-over from BHC.

Never joined a forum until then, so to get into the spirit of things, and to be cool in a conformist kinda way   :-*, I used Jedi.  Couldn't think of anything else so I just reversed Jedi into Idej. A palindrome, as Czar of the BHC pointed out a while back.

Turns out I wasn't very original, either. I tried to register Yahoo, Hotmail, and Excite email acounts but variations of Jedi Idej were already taken.

Avatars often go with name changes, so here are the ones I’ve used to far. With 5 days to go, I am currently on the Jackson 5. Since you are all mostly North Americans, I should explain that the last one was a guy hitting a “Six” in a Cricket match.

Funny--I always thought it was the big, weepy, melodramatic "I'm leaving" announcements that were pretty much a staple of the Rebelscum experience.

Huh.

My new name is birthed from three sources:

Last week I found a bag that resembled the tall style of hat that Egyptian Pharos wore, so the entire day at school I was King Hobus, king of the hobos.

Several weeks ago I made up a people called the Haamites (born out of a long running joke about ham)

So I combined the two, plus my patron name and BAM! my new name.

Valin = two Expanded Universe characters: Valin Halcyon (better known as Hal Horn), and Valin Horn, his grandson.

Kenobi = well DUH. ;D

This handle originated at the StarWars.com message boards (I was HuttLord from April 2002 to about August 2002, and Valin since then). I use it at a number of message boards: GalacticSenate.com, DarkHorse.com, TF.N, etc.

Vader - who could that be?  The coolest character in the galaxy?

08 - My favourite hockey player of all time, Cam Neely #8.  Back when I was signing up at AOL, believe it or not, JesseVader8, was already taken.  So naturally, I went to JesseVader08.

From Merrian-Webster Dictionary

Quote
Main Entry: cha·os
Pronunciation: 'kA-"äs
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek -- more at GUM
1 obsolete : CHASM, ABYSS
2 a often capitalized : a state of things in which chance is supreme; especially : the confused unorganized state of primordial matter before the creation of distinct forms -- compare COSMOS b : the inherent unpredictability in the behavior of a natural system (as the atmosphere, boiling water, or the beating heart)
3 a : a state of utter confusion b : a confused mass or mixture <a chaos of television antennas>

I used to always play as Chaos when I played lazer tag and since those days are long gone, I  use it in video games. '

The Sith are bad-ass so it just kinda came together like that and it has stuck.

It's actually really simple although most people read it in a different manner than I intended (but I can see that side too).

There are three stages of Jedi: the Padawan, the Knight, and the Master.  I was finishing up the first stage of my training to be a Doctor at the time I first used the DP screenname on a movie forum, so I just went with DoctorPadawan.

If you want to be literal, I should actually be DoctorKnight right now, since I completed stage two.  I'm still not a doctor (and probably won't be for a while, thanks to student loans) though, and I think DoctorPadawan sounds much better than DoctorKnight, which sounds kind of generic and too close to a theoretical denizen of a Hasselhoff fan forum.  :D

Well, my JD Forum Name was originally the name of my favorite Gundam Mobile Suit design - Gundam Nataku.

I figured with Gundam so closely related to SW, it was a good fit, so I started using the name when I registered with the TradeFederation and it stuck... until now.

I've decided that in honor of Celebration 3, I am going to slowly phase out my "Nataku" moniker and just go by my "regular" name, Jeff.

I figure, most of you guys know my name is Jeff anyway, so why not just step all the way out from behind the curtain and finally join the "Guys Who Use Their 'Real' Name" club?   ;)

Look for "Nataku" to be phased out this week as "Jeff" is phased in. :)

Eh, we all go by our real names around here most of the time anyway, so changing your forum nic won't make all that much of a difference to me really, Natacos.  :-*

A little tidbit about my name, Anton -

Invariably, when I hang out with a new group pf people, I get a nickname. Don't know why, might be because I'm a likable guy. ::). Anyway, my good friend George dubed me Anton because he was to lazy to say Anthony all the time, and I wouldn't accept Tony, so it stuck.

What were some other nicknames you ask? Ant, Squire, Tone (when I was going by Tony,) Swordy (becasue my last name is Sword), and Rusty (again, because of the Sword thing.)

Further trivia, I was strongly leaning toward going by the screen name Blix in honor of the character from Legend.

Post by: Matt_Fury on April 13, 2005, 07:02 PM
Well..I think the Matt part is obvious.  The fury however, I put on when I was first getting online and trying to find a screenname for AOL.  They wouldn't take Just Matt, and there were this group of fighters that came on the bombing range I worked at (my first AF assignment), and were real great when we had our EW (Electronic Warfare) simulators up on them.  They're flight callsign was "fury" so I added that and 13 to get MattFURY13.  Even though I don't use AOL much anymore (my parents use the account so I still have it), I've kept the mattfury in my e-mail for continuity's sake.

Odd thing is, my AF callsign/nickname is Obi-Wan....but I doubt I could get that to go through on any SW forum.  ;D

Post by: Shannon (Princess) on April 13, 2005, 07:53 PM
I chose Princess a long time ago (99), and wish I could change it now, but it's kind of stuck...
When I was 6 and the movie came out, I thought I was a princess (no, really) and therefore liked Leia's character, etc, since we had that in common.  ;)
My father was one of the head guys in a Mardi Gras Krewe in New Orleans and since I was able to walk I would dress in a ball gown every year, complete w/ tiara, as I was one of the "princesses".   At the ball, I would carry the amulets down the middle of the ball to the "coronation" of the King and Queen of the year.  I had this really cool looking plaque in old script w/ a ribbon and medal w/ my name on it in the hallway at home, too- I thought that was the royal papers kind of thing.  It was actually an honorary citizen of N.O. thing.  Kids.
Anyway, after I took the name Princess all the Princess stuff started coming out and all- and it's just irritating, but, hey, I'll deal w/ it...

Oh, and to answer the original question of this thread, Rob means:

rob    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (rb)
v. robbed, rob·bing, robs
v. tr.
Law. To take property from (a person) illegally by using or threatening to use violence or force; commit robbery upon.
To take valuable or desired articles unlawfully from: rob a bank.

To deprive unjustly of something belonging to, desired by, or legally due (someone): robbed her of her professional standing.
To deprive of something injuriously: a parasite that robs a tree of its sap.

Well, whippersnapper, I remember when Prodigy was only in around 5 cities and we were glad to have it!  You didn't even get to choose a name, you were assigned 4 letters, a number and then another letter.  I think I was vxtn28c.  Yeppers.  The C meant I was a kid, since A goes to the primary and B goes to a secondary (like dad and mom). I was actually 18 and going to college at this time.   And we were glad when we actually got colors besides blue, gray, white and black on our screens!  And we were MORE than glad when we finally moved from 1200 bps to 2400 bps... Why, we could leave the room and do something else before the next screen would come up.  And don't even ask how many online divorces I had already been through by the time you were typing in your little "n/name" thing!
tsk tsk tsk... young'uns...

My real name is "Gregory" but on a test (I think it was the "Early Warning Test") there were only enough boxes for "Gregor" and then it had my middle initial, which was "B".  From that point on, I went by "Gregorb" (because there are too many "Gregory's" out there!)
Gregorbian is just what I use for screennames and stuff, I guess it's some sort of reference to Gregorian monks or the Gregorian calendar or whatever  ::)  I just kinda like the ring to it  ;)

Nice to see Famine is back - smart move.

I don't know if there was anything "smart" about it Rob.

I heard that Kevin!

I'm starting to feel like a total dork with my "Star Warsy" name...  Scott started a bad trend.  OCB bit the dust, then Nataku, now Tydirium, rebeltraders, and Zod...  The peer pressure is killing me!

Bah, I originated the first name bandwagon years before those fools.  :P

I've decided to follow suit and go with my given name as well.

The name I chose, Victor_Von_Doom, contrary to popular belief, is actually about the Marvel character Victor_Von_Doom. Discuss amongst yourselves.

I came up with mine because long ago before the forums were very popular people would call me "the guy who makes all those EU customs". So EU Custom Man seemed to work and I like the fact that I can just use EUCM most of the time.

I got "Ook" from Ookla the Mok and have never looked back. :D

I like it because it's monosyllabic and sort of phonetic, like monkeys go "OOK!". It sounds like the name of a gorilla, an orc or ogre. It's very Mok, very ... Wookiee.

Well, mine's kind of self-explanatory. I think  Nirvana was really an awesome band, and it was a shame that Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain, but that's a whole 'nother topic. ::)
