From the Q&A At Sandtroopers (http://www.sandtroopers.com/smf/index.php?topic=5183.msg246553#msg246553):
Finally, the half-cyborg Darth Maul from Visionaries, with the cool lower torso, was a scratch from our coming pack line. The good news is that he *will* be coming out next year as a Comic Con exclusive (still in the Comic Pack format but with a special treatment). The second figure has yet to be announced and we'll save that for an update next Spring.
Any guesses on the second figure in the pack?
-
I'd be really surprised if it wasn't Obi Wan. I'm also surprised this particular pack was a scratch - I'd think it have more appeal to kids and collectors.
-
Well, Obi-Wan is certainly an easy addition, but Visionaries had a number of different stories (http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/comics/news20050315.html), so there's lots to pick from. This is a pretty far out guess, but one of the stories is about a young Rebel trooper on Hoth...what if they include Maul and the previously planned beardless Hoth trooper?

The problem was not so much the pack content but the entire Comic Pack SKU seems to be near dead from all Q&A's. Wasn't it a big hit not too long ago? Within the last 3 months comic packs stalled. Xizor struck back and peg warmed once more. I hope they get the Cammie/Fixer pack out the Noroghi and a Dash Rendar before this line croaks.

Some of the issues with the Comic Packs not selling well do occur to Hasbro's odd production and distribution schemes for the last year or so. The first 3 sets in the TLC Blue line were over-produced like seemingly everything else from that July 08 push - some stores you can still find many of these sets (Jack, I'm thinking the Golf Mill Wal-Mart) - and while they fit the Clone Wars theme of the time the sets were not overly interesting (to me at least) and contained mostly resculpts/refreshes. Then yes there was the Xizor pack which is still rotting in many stores, while the set is interesting it's the worse set of the 4 new ones from that wave (Thrawn/Karrde and the 2 Legacy sets) and it too was produced in high numbers though it contains a well known pegwarmer from years past and a female figure which historically is an indication for poorer sales. Also that set, much like the Thrawn/Karrde set, is not very action-oriented so it's less likely to sell to non-collectors. Then we get to the first wave of the TLC Red line where we get 3 great new outstanding sets, but the rest of the 8 set case assortment are re-releases of previous sets including Marvel comic sets which much to my chagrin were also not great sellers.
The comic packs are my favorite aspect of collecting today and I get excited to see new product hit, but if Hasbro is to maintain the line I think they will need to re-think their strategy on it. Limit the number of new sets made in a year, perhaps making them exclusives or lowering the number of sets per case, until such time where the market corrects itself and the comic packs become the hits that they were in 2007. Unfortunately, history shows that Hasbro will likely scrap the line similar to what they've done in the past to Cinema Scenes and what they're currently doing to Evolutions. But hey, don't fret we'll still get Plo Koon and Saesee Tiin re-released in the SAGA Legends line for the 30th time...
-
Maybe they'll do a box set instead of a straight comic two-pack with one figure from each of the short stories, and include the full graphic novel? They could do as Jman suggested and use that as a route to release the clean shaven HRS, cyborg Maul, a Bacta Tank Grievous, a new Wat Tambor, a super-articulated Palpatine/Sidious, a new Amidala, and a new Durge. It would definitely fall under that "special treatment" mentioned in the Q&A response.
Or, maybe they'll use this as the opportunity to do a real "Disturbance at Lars Homestead" pack using the Maul, a retooled "middle-aged" Obi-Wan, and new versions of (older) Owen, Beru, and toddler Luke?

Those are really great ideas. I'd prefer the first option if there was a choice available, just because it would cover a lot of characters. A few could even be kit-bashes or retools, so it wouldn't be too difficult for Hasbro to manage.
I think the exclusive will just be Maul and a graying Obi-Wan. One new figure and one retool seems pretty easy for Hasbro, and Hasbro likes the easy stuff. As for the special treatment? Probably some shiny text on the package. And a $25 price tag.
-
If they go with a character from one of the other Visionaries stories, I'd love to see a really good Darth Sidious from the "Sithisis" story.
-
I think I'd most like a version of Kenobi between ANH and ROTS... It's an era that happened, just not really documented, so getting a figure of Kenobi in his years between the films would be really nice to me, actually.

I'd kind of dig that too, for the exact reasons you mentioned. It is a simple enough figure for them to do, and it would be a "new" version of Obi-Wan from an era that is largely unexplored. As a fan of the character in general, I wouldn't mind seeing that as the "other" figure in this set.
-
I expect they'll make Obi-wan as he'd just be a slight update to the figure, so it's minimal cost to Hasbro. However, if they choose to do another character from Visionaries, I'd like to see this one:
The girl, not the Rancor

I really am horrified at Hasbro's choice to scratch this set :o I don't go to Comic-Con, so now I'm gonna have to look on the secondary market. *Sigh* Thus is the way of life ... :-\
I'm actually thinking that Owen might be in this set. I don't really see how a character outside of "Old Wounds" would make it into this pack. I don't think either that Hasbro would include Beru, but maybe, just maybe Obi-Wan.

They typically offer these exclusives at HTS and SWS now within a few days of the show ending.
-
Even when the show's in full swing.
-
Looks like we finally have an answer here... Visionaries Maul and a new "old" Uncle Owen. Looked like he re-uses the AotC Owen sculpt with a new head and a new paint job.

Pics PLEASE! Or at least a link. Many people are talking about all this new stuff, but I don't see pics or links. I can't seem to find it on the homepage...

It's a decent looking set, but I think the story is ridiculous, so I'll pass and wait for the "true" OT Owen and Beru.
-
I like it, I am down for one.
-
I'll get one - two if I can find a loose one at a good price...
-
I've been waiting for this Maul for a long time, so I'll get one of these packs. :)
-
I am very happy to see a 100% new Old Owen. I will be buying several of this pack to make some Mos Eisly losers for my custom Cantina. Same goes for the Cammie Pack, I like the generic characters.
The Maul is an interesting version so all around this is a great pack. Hopefully it will not rum more than $15.
-
I'm definitely getting this set. And I'm interested as to what Hasbro's gonna do w/ the packaging.
-
Sweet! Never read the comic, but looking forward to the new cyborg Maul. :)
Glad to see some pics in some of these threads as well. :-*
-
I'm down for one or two of this sets. Thanks for posting the pics.
I still haven't seen the complete Hasbro slide presentation yet.
-
I am just a lil bit scared of the "Very Limited" quantities Hasbro is emphasing on both of the slides for the exclusive comic packs. I really would like to get both packs - but I am affraid this is gonna turn into some crazy hunt...
-
The limited quantities statement is no doubt a response to overstock that Hasbro has wound up with following some recent cons. They wound up having the Holographic Emporer with Vader long after the 2008 Comic Con. And there were plenty of TFU Stormtrooper Commanders left following last year's Comic Con. It seems that Hasbro is trying to avoid that kind of situation going forward.
-

Yeah, they basically said there would be enough for most folks to get them, but not enough for a clearance blow-out 3 months after the fact. Should still be easy to get, but don't count on buying they for $5 in December or anything like that.
Hopefully it will not rum more than $15.
Uh... don't hold your breath. :-X
-
I like the 2 pack quite a bit. It's too bad it will most likely be at least $30 given the exclusive nature of it. Maul looks good in the photo. It's kind of hard to see Owen's headsculpt but the rest looks good to me. It will definately be better than that piece of crap cinema scene version. LOL!
-
This set, I just don't know how to feel...
I like seeing an older Owen figure that doesn't look like ****, but that Cyborg Maul's probably one of the lamest things. I get the media it's from, the concept, but I guess I just feel like it's a wasted figure slot.
That said, I'll wait to see what the price will ultimately be... Can I justify a lot plunked down for an older Obi and a Maul I really am going to cringe at putting on my shelf? Eh, we'll see I guess.
-
So that Owen isn't meant to be an OT figure? Is that right?
-
"Old Wounds" was supposed to be set about 10 years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith. This Owen looks like it was built on the AOTC Owen body, but with more of an OT Owen head.
-
Very good... he gets tossed up onto the EU shelf then.
Still waiting for an OT Owen.
-

This is not the AOTC Owen body at all. I have used that figure several times on customs, I know the parts very well. I am 100% positive this Owen does not use a single part from that figure. The only carry over from that figure is the cloth robe. This is a 100% new sculpt, OT style with a slight color change. I am so positive I made this nifty 30 sec Photoshop pic....(He looks awesome!)
I am more excited about him than Maul.
-
Yeah I was thinking it wasn't the same figure either JACK, and that side-by-side clinches it. I'm not sure of the parts being perhaps from another figure, but I am thinking no... Redecoed and that could be a nice upgrade to Owen from ANH. A future repaint? I'm betting so. Other than the coat though, that's a pretty much new figure I'm guessing.
The thing that made me think it was at least partially new was Owen's pants being over the boots on the AOTC figure, and this one having articulated legs with pants in the boots... The side-by-side clinches the torso though being new too, as well as the head it seems (you can see the hair's different as are the facial features and their placement).
-
Is it a redeco/predeco of the Fixer body from the Cammie & Fixer CP?
Scratch that. :P
-
When someone asked about it in the showroom, Hasbro said it was a re-used prequel Owen, but yeah that appears not to be the case. I'm guessing since they said "re-used" it must be from someone somewhere in the line and they just got confused on who it was originally.
-
I'd like to see him released on a Vintage card as that Maul is L to the AME.
-
I can't place who it would be re-used from... The legs are generic, but the upper body's a little distinct. I'd look at Cantina characters as a possibility but beyond that it looks new. The legs could be from almost anyone they're so generic though.

Glad to see that I was wrong. The coat looks like the only common element between this Owen and the AOTC Owen. I think I'm probably suffering from a degree of information overload in the aftermath of Toy Fair. It's a lot to take in over the course of a couple of days.
-
The sculpt on the Owen looks really good. With a little dry brush you can age him up quickly. The only difference I see from the ANH version is the color of the collar and a little less Grey. I am so happy I have another POTF2 era figure that I can purge!
-
I was pretty certain that the Owen was new, this confirms it. Thanks Jack!
-
so, while I cannot see the comparison shot posted above at work, and you guys are saying this Owen does indeed appear to have an all new sculpt, do you think Hasbro is intending to release him on his own individual vintage card? repainted of course.
-
I was pretty certain that the Owen was new, this confirms it. Thanks Jack!
No worries, I just saw the clear pics over at Yak of this and the Cammie set. Wow!
The sculpt on Own is dead on! I really am more excited about the Owen as I dais before. It's kind of a hilarious match up with these two. Crabby Old Guy with a Gun vs. Pissed off Horny Cyborg Sith Lord with double Lightsabers. That would be some mess to clean up after......
-
I'm hoping Owen gets re-released soon. I really don't need that Maul in my collection.
-
I'd like a single-carded Owen, too. He and Beru are due, in my opinion, for OT release, especially on vintage cards.
-
Well, Hasbro's never met a mold it didn't want to use twice, so I'd say the odds of seeing a proper ANH Owen are pretty good. I'd love to see him on the vintage card as well.
-

I would have to agree.
-
I am just so happy I can be done with the 1997 version, I love ditching POTF2 sculpts.
I think I will give him to my 15 month old daughter. When she walks in my SW room she refers to him as "Baby". He is one of her favorite figures next to "Slonik" (Max Rebo. Slonik mean Elephant in Ukrainian.) Not sure why she thinks he is a baby he looks like a newborn hamster due to the molding color of his skin but at least he will still be loved.....
I would not mind seeing Owen on a basic card but not sure if he will get there. If he does, great!
Beru is not as terrible as the Owen figure so I can still tolerate that sculpt.
-
Jeff got a cool close up of this pack

What's the silver accessory in the lower-right corner of the image supposed to be?
-
What's the silver accessory in the lower-right corner of the image supposed to be?
I noticed that too. I read the Visionaries comic yesterday to figure it out, but I have no clue - perhaps it's a wire that connects to Owen's rifle. In the comic, Maul smashes Owen's rifle in half over his head, so perhaps it's a wire for the "damaged" version.
-
That Maul is blech, but I love the Owen...
Judging by what you CAN see exposed from the coat, it looks pretty true to his ANH digs, and perhaps a good repaint figure down the road? I like the headsculpt, the shirt collar looks about right... I'm down for a repaint on that one I think.
-
I don't read comics and will likely never open this set when I get my mitts on it, but can someone give me a quick rundown of how/why Maul got robotic legs and decided to "battle" Owen (I get the Luke thing - I guess)? Also - what's up with his lightsaber and unshaven horns?
-

Well, the story had Darth Maul surviving his little pitfall. If you recall from TPM, Maul lost his lower half. So like Lt. Dan, he got some new legs. If I recall this portion of the story, Maul attacks Luke to lure Obi-Wan out of hiding and exact revenge. Well, Owen doesn't like strangers (Maul) on his farm, so he attempts to blast him away. It didn't go too well for Owen, whose gun was cut to bits.
As for the long horns... if you had nothing below the waistline, would you really bother any longer? I know for me that I'd really let myself go... sweatpants, never leaving the couch, no showering, shaving, or brushing my teeth...
-
I like this set. I'm actually more excited about Maul than Owen. Not a big fan of the Infinities "What If?" storylines, but he's a very cool and different figure than anything we've seen before and looks pretty well detailed.
Mike - the story indicates Maul has been following Kenobi for some time and often just missing him. Laying in the shadows and constantly chasing Old Ben has probably not left much time for grooming. I'm not sure about the lightsaber, but it makes sense that he had to build a new one after TPM. Looks like he just picked a more curvy design to work with.
-
The ending of the story's pretty cool.
-
I am TOTALLY down for getting this set!
I thought it was a cool What If kind of story. I think the Maul rocks!
-
I like Maul more than Owen (I'm a big Darth Maul fan).
As for the storyline, it's interesting that Maul had followed Obi-Wan to Kamino, Geonosis, Mustafar, AND Polis Massa. I just don't get why he has an Asajj Ventress-esque curved lightsaber.
-
The ending of the story's pretty cool.
Because you can finally say "Wow, that pile of ****'s over!", or something, right? ;D
-
Because you can finally say "Wow, that pile of ****'s over!", or something, right? ;D
No because after the heated battle between Maul & Obi-Wan, it's pretty cool who ends up defeating Maul in the end.
-
I'll be happy to get this, but even happier if this Owen ends up on a vintage card.
-

I agree - even if they end up being exclusives, I would love to finally see Beru and Owen on ANH Vintage Cards.

Looks purdy. I might have to pick this up now, even though I originally had no desire. Love the packaging!
-
^^ I really like this set now! The packaging is absolutely beautiful, and the paint apps on Maul are very good. I expected this to be around the $19 range, but its only $14.99!!
-
I had no clue this is a "box" set. Kinda neat I guess, but unnecessary IMO.
-

The Cammie/Fixer set is coming the same way. I saw a preview of it on a G4 Special on Celebration V - one of the segments on the show was about the Hasbro memorabilia and they showed off the Bounty Hunter mis-name pack and the Cammie/Fixer Comic Pack.
I kinda like it - it makes the set stand-out from the others. I think they may have gone ahead and done this box packaging 'cause they probably have even more Comic Packs that were in the pipeline and a comic pack makes total sense as far as an exclusive for a show like SDCC. I would totally be happy if each year we got a really great comic pack as the SDCC exclusive.
-
That Owen needs to be given a Vintage Home!
The packaging for this set is very nice -the concept ? To each their own.
-
I just realized Uncle Owen has no articulated ankles. And this is definitely the year of Cyborg Maul - first an action figure, next an incredibly beautiful Premium Format Figure.
-
So who is supposed to have this online? HasbroToyShop.com or StarWarsShop.com or both?
I know they said that quantities were limited, but they say that all the time and then figures like the Stormtrooper Commander are still available a year later... :-\
-
Both HTS & SWShop
-

I know they said that quantities were limited, but they say that all the time and then figures like the Stormtrooper Commander are still available a year later... :-\
It seems this time, though, that quantities are EXTREMELY limited. They were making a limited run in the first place for attendees at SDCC, but I think it's any leftovers that are getting sold on HTS and SWS, if there are any.
-
Well - if quantities are "VERY limited" - I hope thast means that they aren't so "VERY limited" that Brian's toys can sell plenty of sets at $40 and HasbroToyShop.com and/or StarWarsShop.com sell out in minutes after they're posted online. >:(
-
Every exclusive at shows like this have "extremely limited quantities", and I think they probably are a shorter production run. However they've rarely proven difficult to get online, so I wouldn't worry.
-
It's actually available for order now from StarWarsShop.com
http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?topcatID=1300264;product_id=1321850&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001
I just placed my order, so I'm happy, this is one less convention exclusive I have to worry about.
-
I went ahead and nabbed it now, rather than wait to see if there was anything else on HTS to get with it. Rarely is.
-
I nabbed my set as well... At best you'd save 10% at HTS, and that won't even cover the $7-ish shipping, so I figured screw it. I'll just buy it now and forget about it.
-
Picked up my set at SDCC. Very nice presentation, not in a hurry to open it.
-
Secured my order on SW.com!
I'm expecting to *hopefully* get this soon, because I had ordered a Krayt/Dare CP with standard shipping, and I got it just one week later! If I recall correctly, the receipt said it would arrive around August 3rd.
-
I ordered two sets from SW Shop and they should arrive tonight.
-
FINALLY got this today! The box is a lot bigger than what internet pictures showed it to be, and the packaging is very nice. I don't know if I should open it or leave it boxed, I only ordered one, and the packaging is unique from all the other CPs.
