Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Transformers Live Action Movies
« on: October 17, 2018, 08:23 AM »
I saw the trailer yesterday and I've gotta admit I'm pretty stoked.  I loved seeing the actual Transformers of my childhood...it was even better being able to actually recognize them!!  I've got high hopes for this.  I was not really a fan of the movies beyond the very first, and slightly for the third.  The rest of the series was terrible.

I can't wait to see this.

This exactly!

Venom was OK.  A better film with similar themes is Upgrade.

Huge news that Comcast has pulled their bid for Fox and Disney will now acquire them.  I'd say that Galactus is now the next mega-heavy for Marvel.

PLEASE let this mean that we can get a 4K version of the OOT!

Wait a second...  Does ReAction have Macross/Robotech?  That is a Zentradi BattlePod in that pic...

That cultural flap is nonsense, IMO. Any parent will get the gist of that short.

Her character listing on IMDB gives it away to a degree, too.
But this image confirms that she appears in the film in more than just a flashback.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILERS)

I liked the arc they had for Poe where he becomes the leader. I also get what they are building with Finn / Rose / Rey.  I just felt that the Canto scenes dragged it all down a bit. That could have been edited a LOT tighter. I also appreciate the big theme that comes out of this sub-plot,  it it’s all a bit plodding.

Please don't misunderstand me... I really liked TLJ and I completely appreciate the new directions that RJ introduced.  I actually LOVED the way he sort of had Luke throw out (even in a meta sense) all the pre-conceived stuff about the Force, the Jedi etc.  Luke is evolved, and it seems that Yoda, after being one with the Force has also come to the same conclusions.  I can't wait to see where they go.

Now space horses are another story...

I just thought the way a few specific things were erased "just because" was a little jarring. Was there a JJ-RJ spat?  I don't recall hearing that.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILERS)

Honestly, Lucasfilm needs to take a page out of Marvel's book and layout a road map similar to what Marvel did with Phase 1, 2, and 3.

THIS!!!

I liked TLJ, but afterwards I felt it really went out of its way to **** on a lot of stuff from TFA.  Kill most of the resistance.  Kylo ditches helmet.  Snoke offed.  Rey's lineage ignored.  etc.  I'm not saying I hated any of these choices, it just seemed a little... vindictive to me.

They can give creators freedom, but that freedom should be somewhat constrained by an outline.  For better or worse, there is an arc in Eps 1-3 for Palps and Anakin leading to where they are at the start of the OT.   I rewatched all three leading up to Solo, and while TPM and especially AotC are not the greatest, they do have several hooks that make what happens in RotS more rewarding.

Realizing that there is no pre-set destination for the end of Episode 9, there still should have been some basic story laid out.

Worst part is the victory lap these jerks are taking.  Like an unsuccessful film is good for anything.  Not to mention that their "revolt" or whatever you want to call it had little to do with this film's lack of box office performance.

I think this one was maligned with bad pub from the beginning.   I really can't figure it out. People will say "releases too close" but tell that to Marvel who have 2 films over $1B in four months.  It's too bad because the film was pretty good.  Definitely a head-scratcher.

I like that in the JD community we may not always agree, but I don't feel like anyone's opinion is crapped on in a personal way.  We can have a civil discussion about things.  I think it's funny that TLJ is either the best thing ever or the worst.  I think that most probably fall in the middle somewhere.  I liked most of it, but it wasn't perfect.  Nor was it worse than AotC.  BUT it certainly is not worth all the hatred either way.

Honestly though, we have seen this since 99 with a greater and greater intensity.  All the bashing that TPM took but it was still a monster success.  People saw it multiple times.  If something sucks hard, why see it over and over again?  Then they started to extend the"crappy movie streak" back to RotJ.  It's just laughable.

I read yesterday that Comcast may be getting back into the fray for acquiring Fox.

March 8, 2019 Captain Marvel
May 2019 Avengers 4
July 5, 2019 Spider-man 2
May 1, 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie
July 31, 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie 2
November 6, 2020 - Untitled Marvel Movie 3
May 7, 2021 - Untitled Marvel Movie 4
July 31, 2021 - Untitled Marvel Movie 5

February 18, 2022 - Untitled Marvel Movie 7

I agree that the Fox merger... complicates things in a good way.  I would say that FF will be fast-tracked.

You gotta figure there will need to be at least 3 films that are fully in production during late 2018 through 2019 if they want anything in theaters in their typical August/November/February slots after Avengers 4.  I can't imagine how they'd ever keep a lid on that.
Good point.  Maybe the Nov and Feb titles are Spidey and GotG?

The simplest answer to releasing new movies is that there are only two on the schedule before Avengers 4.  Ant Man and the Wasp is next, which I believe takes place before the events of Infinity War.  After that is Captain Marvel, which will be set in the 90's.  All future movies will be released after Avenger's 4, so the next Avengers movie will set the table for what comes next.
Exactly.  Marvel has announced that features for GotG and Spidey are in the works.  One would also have to imagine that a Black Panther sequel is slated as well after the mega success of the last film.

I think once A4 releases that Marvel will detail what's next on their slate.
