Announcements / Re: JD 2008 Loot Giveaway #1 - Order 66!
« on: June 27, 2008, 09:27 PM »
My wife just called to say the Order 66 sets were delivered today, thanks again!

Congrats on winning Keonobi and my condolences on apparently getting kicked out of your house.   :o

The poor little boy that muttered "Master Skywalker what are we going to do?" has got to be one of them they will make.

Will be interesting to hear more about this.  As a father, I think one of the most disturbing parts of all six movies is that scene with the kid coming to Anakin for help and him igniting his lightsaber and closing the door.  They obviously had to kill off the younglings somehow, but they really didn't have to show it in my opinion.  Making a figure of a young child character who's only role is to show that Anakin killed off a bunch of little kids just doesn't sit right with me.

That being said, I certainly hope that its something like the Solo kids, though I'd much rather have versions of them in their teens.

Not sure what prices you listed, but if JJ thought they were ridiculous enough to close you down then you're a moron scalper anyway.  Good riddance.

Obviously Minnesota is the only place these have yet to show up at.

I don't think we'll have "real time" tracking like this in our lifetime or least not for a long time.  I doubt companies will make their shipping logs for distribution centers and stores public.  At best you might get a read on what's in stock as of 8am if a retailer chose to offer this, but who knows if a customer or employee bought it at 8:01?  Product can still sell between the time that you saw it online and the time you get to the store.

I think Target would be the most likely to offer something like this given their current aisle checking machines, but Target codes their toys under a DPCI, rolling several UPCs into one code.  At best, you would know that more TAC figures came in, but not which specific ones, unless they decided to totally revamp all of their item coding for some reason, and I just don't see a good rationale for that in the near future.

I think its far more likely that stores start selling more of their merchandise online.  Target has avoided smaller ticket items thus far, but I think they'll increase the menu over time.  Think about the advantages of ordering from one or more distribution centers versus the much smaller inventory available at a single store.  They could also adopt Wal-Mart's ship to store program, where you wouldn't even have to pay shipping.

If anyone finds an extra battle rancor all cheap and can sell me just the rider for like $15 I'd love you forever.

And you'd have a nice inexpensive rancor to boot.

I might have picked one up for you, but you're showing too much affection for this stage of our relationship.

If anyone finds one and could pick it up and just sell me the rider, that'd rock.  $15 for the rider?  It'd leave you with a nice cheap rancor.

Anyone??????

I don't really need a spare drooler, but if anyone wants just the rancor, we have enough of them around here that I could pick one up and split between yourself and Rob.

I think Hasbro might be going a little too far with the large items being sold on day 1 lol. As cool as this ship may end up I already have the other clone wars one and ultimatly have no more room for another.

Looks pretty cool and like JT, I'm not getting one.  Waaaayyy too much coming out at the same time and really don't need yet another version of the exact same thing.  This might work on the $20 stuff like starfighters, but I just don't see a lot of demand for this.

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:08 PM »
Marvelous News has carded and loose pics up of the first wave of 2 packs (Wolvie/Forge, Ult. Fury/Ult. Cap, Elektra/Ronin).

That wolvie head does look a little silly.  I'm just going to get Ronin for my 'vengers collection...not sure if I want Elektra at this point or not.  I'll have to see it in person I guess.

Wasn't sure where to post, but the Rancors, o66 sets, and TAC/Legends are starting to get clearanced out at our Targets here in MN.

Just to add prices to this - we're seeing Rancors as low as $19.98 and Order 66 as low as $4.98 right now.  I personally haven't seen the TAC or Legends on clearance yet - not that there are any figures left to get.

Around here we are actually swimming in han. The popular one seems to be Watto.

I would have not guessed that could ever ever happen.  That is the one I want the very least.

Found these at $19.98 at several stores in Minnesota today.  I wasn't as impressed with these as others, but great product at $20.

I bought a set on ebay. With a free shipping coupon it was pretty much store price. Not bad.

How do you get a free shipping coupon for Ebay?  ???

The Legacy Collection / Re: Hasbro profit question for you guys
« on: June 23, 2008, 01:14 PM »
I've actually seen several articles interviewing people in the toy industry that suggests that retailer margins on toys are more like 30-40% rather than 50%+. And that's only at the big box level. On a recent Smodcast (Kevin Smith's podcast) they talked about running a specialty toy/comic store, and referred to 25% margins. And that's on what gets sold, never mind the items that languish on shelves and end up in bargain bins.

The reason there isn't an amazon for toys (ie toys.com) anymore was that the margins were actually too slim for it to be profitable, even with advanced warehousing and just in time inventory.

Certainly, both Hasbro and Target are strong, profitable companies, and their stocks are both buys at present, so that's a good indicator of who "wins" in these situations.  However, I'd never call something like the BMF Falcon a "risk"....we Star Wars fans are too rabid about our collections to ever let that one slide past...it will sell out within a week and dissapear before showing up again as a re-issue a few years later.

No offense, but I don't buy any of this.  Would love to see the "several articles" stating retailer margins on toys are that low.  If anything, comic book shops take a 25% margin on stuff they buy at other retailers!   ::)

Who is Amelia?

Are you asking about Amelia Karanthes, the Judicator of Ryloth?  If so, then the answer is: A Smokin' Hottie!  ;D
