I was talking about this on another SW board I'm a member/moderator for.
Even though this would be yet another coincidence, how would you folks feel about having the Falcon at some point replace the Twilight as Anakin's ship?
I mean seriously. Not only would we get to see it in the cartoon (whic would be ultra cool to me), but Hasbro would then have a REASON to rerelease the ship, just with a different deco. Bam, repaint and instant dollar. This means the Falcon is not just an OT ship anymore and would have appeal for the kiddies.
This would bring the Falcon further into the prequels than just a glimpse of similar ships in AOTC and ROTS. In fact it could have that neat greenish pinstripping it has as seen in ROTS. That would be yet another way to rerelease the BMF, just in different colors!
Hmmm, now why didn't Hasbro think of that and talk with LFL about it. Perhaps it's still possible.
Maybe we could start a movement towards that!
I think it would be ultra cool to see the Falcon in the Clone Wars cartoon, and more than just a cameo.
Maybe near the end of the cartoon, a certain Sabaac player would find his way to it???
Thoughts?

I always had a feeling that the Falcon would be in the toon especially since it was released along side the AT-TE. I don't really care what route they take. Just looking forward to some more animated goodness. :)

My 2¢
Hella no!
-
how would you folks feel about having the Falcon at some point replace the Twilight as Anakin's ship?
Personally, I HATE HATE HATE the idea.
I love the existing Lando/Han Solo EU and to start screwing with the Falcon's history at this point would suck balls IMHO. To me, that's the sort of constant tinkering that needs to stop. You can mess with Luke all you want, but leave Han and his ship out of it... :P
-
....screwing with the Falcon's history at this point would suck balls IMHO.
Well said.
-
Well the history of the Falcon BEFORE Lando owned it hasn't been told, that I know of. So this "could" be it's history.
Anakin's current ship, the Twilight, is a funky design. It's a cross between a B-wing and an OT Imperial shuttle. I don't like it all that much.
With exception to the cockpit on the Falcon, the rest of the ship is basically symmetrical. I prefer symmetrical ships than asymmetrical.
Also, I was talking about Lando not Han. I'm still in total agreement that Han should win this from Lando. When I said Sabaac player, I meant Lando.
IIRC, in an EU novel Lando aquires it on a shiplot. I think it was the Mindharp of Sharu series. From what I've seen of the Clone Wars trailers, there are those large space faring Manta Rays that can be construed as "The one, the other, and the rest" that is part of that Lando series, again, IIRC. So that could be a tie-in...
-
I think the Clone Wars 'toon needs to focus on bridging the events of Episodes II & III and not introduce extraneous elements that further dilute the PT/OT lore by having everything linked by some cosmic version of the Kevin Bacon Game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degrees_of_Kevin_Bacon).
I speculated (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=18266.msg395612#msg395612) in the CW series thread that the Twilight could in fact be the "spice freighter" the Luke heard about from Owen regarding his father's history during the Clone Wars. I think that scenario would "be enough" to further link the two trilogies together without being overly obvious/coincidental.
-
I hate the idea as well.
I think the EU already pretty much sucks ass, with it's constant crisscrossing of stories. I don't need IG-88 to download himself into the Death Star 2 computer, I don't need Boba Fett to be the best man at Dengar's wedding, I don't need every person in the cantina to be directly helping Luke and Obi-Wan in some way or another.
-
Add me to the "Bad Idea" list. Star Wars is too much of a Galactic coincidence as it is...and to have towards the end have Lando aquire it is even worse...what age would he be? 9?
-
It would explain why Darth Vader wants that ship so badly...
-
He doesn't want the ship, but it's occupants.
-

I can't think of any better words than those. Thanks Jeff! :)

I liked the fact that there was a Falcon easter egg in AOTC and ROTS. But I had trouble with the EU notion of the Falcon being a Jedi ship, and that according to said EU backstory it was used for covert missions on behalf of the Jedi.
I think it's best to leave it alone. I actually like the Twilight a bit and would like to see one developed for the vehicle line.
-
I'm with the crew that says, "HELL NO!", to this... My reasons are as follows:
a) it totally bungles existing EU for the Falcon's history... My level of caring about EU trumping EU is usually fairly low, but on things like a major element of the OT such as the Falcon, I'm firmly against it. Stick with the existing material rather than using it as a merchandising ploy.
b) I dig the Twilight a lot and think it's a unique enough ship on its own to warrant a toy, not to mention it's clearly getting enough play that people are recognizing it now as the ship from the movie. It even got a new paintjob and I think it makes a nice, unique design that gives Anakin a Falcon-ish type vehicle.
c) how many vehicles should Anakin own in the span of a 3 year war? There's the 2D fighter he had, there's the upcoming modded atherspite fighters, the Twilight...
d) Crowbarring the Falcon in just to repaint a toy is really going to be annoying.
& finally e) I absolutely 100% cannot stand it when EU has to tie something we remember clearly and that's so unique, such as the Falcon, into every major character. it's just an unbelievable "coincidence" that would not only be an insult to the (so far) very good story telling and overall EU that the 3D cartoon has been, but it would really just insult fans as well to me. I think the fans can get by without seeing the Falcon... There simply isn't a need to jam it in there, and make this unbelievable coincidence ruin an otherwise fantastic line of stories about the Clone Wars.
What they NEED to do is focus on intertwining the CW3D cartoon with existing EU that takes place during the Clone Wars (such as the 2D cartoon, the comics, etc.) so it gives these other stories a nod and gives the EU a little cohesion for once.

They can do what they want, I'm trying to ignore the 3D cartoon's existence.

Okay, well sorry for posting this. I saw it on another forum and thought it might be a good idea. It's readily apparent that's not the majority opinion on this forum.
I won't post any further on the matter.
Apologies for wasting anyone's time on the idea.

It's not a waste of time at all Sal. Nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion. Just because others don't agree with it (myself included) doesn't mean it won't happen. Would I be disappointed if it did? Most likely, but perhaps there's a way that none of us have thought of that could bring the Falcon into the CW that could be kinda cool.
-
PURE BLASPHEMY as far as I'm concerned. >:(
But you're certainly entitled to your opinions.
-
Put me down in the Hate This Idea group. Its creative, but in a galaxy with millions or billions of ships, having Anakin own the same ship as Lando/Han doesn't make any sense. I know Anakin is good at tweaking ship, so it might make sense from that perspective, but there are too many other flaws in it for me.
#1 I always got the sense that Han and Lando made the modifications to make the ship faster and more maneauverable. If it was Anakin, then hat just further dilutes the character and use of anyone who's not a Jedi in the SW universe.
#2 Anakin seems to prefer fast, sleek, 1-man fighters. It doesn't seem like a bulky, "ugly" freighter would be his vehicle of choice.
#3 Its bad enough that Vader doesn't recognize threepio. He certainly would have recognized "his ship" aiding in the destruction of the first Death Star. Not having any reaction to the ship in the movies if he truly owned it or had anything to do with it before is a problem.

Best idea since New Coke.

Best idea since New Coke.
Can't top that. But honestly, I don't think anybody wants to see the BMF mold redecorated at this point, too. Just do the one, and be done with it.
-
I recall hearing that Hasbro conducted a focus group about the BMF at Comic Con. They asked collectors what they liked about the BMF as well as asking what they would like to see done to improve the BMF. I could only think of these things:
-The "Lando-vator"
-The electronics bay from TESB where Leia and Han smooch
-A passageway into the cockpit
New deco? Honestly, I don't know what could be done deco-wise to make me want to buy another BMF.
-
I don't know of many who would have the room for one, let alone multiple, BMF's.
-
I'm not going to defend my suggestion any further, than this last comment:
The redecoed BMF would NOT be geared towards we collectors. As I eluded to, it's the KIDS that this would be redecoed for and a way to get parents to buy a large ship for them as well as get more use of the mold for Hasbro.
The redecoed version would not be marketed for us...
Now can we please stop the bleeding...lol.

"Yes, this is (still) horrible, this idea."

No worries from me Sal. I don't want to see Lucas try to make the Falcon's history that important before the Han Solo days, (it makes the galaxy seem too small in my opinion)... but I think that anytime someone has an idea, it's worth discussing as that's what forums are for.
-
Yeah, why not have another of the Falcon's type flying about. It's not like it's the only model ever produced. But I agree with the others about this. EU can have a stand-alone history, not necessarily being connected with someone important within the SW story.

C'mon Sal that's what the whole point of the forums are to discuss your opinions. I wouldn't mind a repaint version that we saw art for in ROTS I believe it had blue markings, but I wouldn't want it to play ANY SIGNIFICANT role in the show. Maybe just a flyby like in ROTS or how they inserted the Outrider in the opening scene to Mos Eisley.

I guess it's that I didn't expect overwhelming negativity to the idea.
As well I'm dealing with a huge amount of negativity on a different site I'm on, so the feeling just migrated over to this thread when the positive responses didn't happen.

I just think most people don't want the Holy Trilogy to be touched. I guess that's fine for some, but what sucks for some is great for others. As long as they don't do it just for the sake of more $$$$. The director seems to be a big fan of SW so I hope he remains that way and doesn't give into the greed. Although I'd probably buy it but not use as the Falcon there has to be other YT-freighters of the same design out there.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing one of these. (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YT-2000_light_freighter)
Probably the coolest part of X-wing Alliance.
-
The only problem with the Otana styled ships is they are "newer" than the 1300's I think... I don't think they existed in the CW era if I recall their background. I'm not a fan of EU pooping on EU, but I do love the design regardless. It'd be neat to see something similar at least, and a clearly Corellian designed light freighter.
-

^ That is awesome.
I'm not concerned if every vessel designation falls in order with what's "established" either... if they want to make a different design that falls into something more "era specific" that's fine... and if it's a cool design, I dig it.
-
I actually thought they would have the Falcon show up at somepoint during the prequel films themselves. They never went that route. I thought at somepoint before the prequels began they would use it to as a disguise to transport some important characters someway somehow. I kind of missed the Falcon honestly. Now that the prequels are over I am glad it never showed up and just kept it as Han and Lando's vehicle. I know it made it in as an easter egg but that does not really count in my opinion.
Anyway as far as it showing up in the cartoon. It's fine with me. This cartoon is just a bonus in my opinion. I feel like they can do whatever they want with this series and it won't offend me at all. I really don't want it to have some odd paintjob though like bright red and 30 cannons all over it.
-

Exactly, there is too much good sci-fi on tv to watch to worry about the cartoon's existance.
