Title: "The Great Unboxing of 2006"
Post by: Oboewan on October 25, 2006, 04:11 PM
Hey everyone.. not sure where exactly this should've gone but...

It's started.....

I'm freeing all of my boxed vehicles, 12" figures, and various other items from their cardboard prisons.

Last night: Kit Fisto's Ship, Mace's Ship, Obi's ship (ROTS), TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, B-Wing, SAGA Green A-Wing, POTJ Snowspeeder with Dak and Luke, and last but not least, Zev's Snowspeeder.

What will be set free tonight..................?

The Force only knows.....

Woh.  Good luck with that.  You should post some pics of the tattered remains of all your boxes, though that'd probably make me faint.  I'd open the Queen's Starship or the Imperial Shuttle if you have either.  Those are some of my favs.

There used to be a thread somewhere that showed pics of carded figs being ripped open.  What a horrid thread that was.

The Queen's Ship is already unboxed and the FAO Shuttle is taking up A TON of space in that huge box... it may be next.........

Last night's free prisoners-
Plo Koon's Fighter
Clone Wars Anakin's Enhanced Fighter (THE coolest of all the Jedi fighters imho)
ROTS Anakin's starfighter
SAGA Luke's Landspeeder (I like the look of it but miss the flip up hood and pegs for the droids)

What will be next?   Wheel of unboxing, turn turn turn, tell me the cardboard that I should burn!

I like the sound of this thread. Recently I too started to liberate some figs and vehicles. Mostly POTF2 ships and ROTS figs. I liberated a POTF2 AT-AT, POTF2 Millenium Falcon and POTF2 Snow Speeder. Then various figures to man them and to place with them.

I get them home and I have to check them out.  Storm the cardboard Bastille!!

I hear ya... that's the way it is for NEW stuff I get from now on!
Unfortunately- I didn't get a chance to unbox anything last night... tonight though will probably see the ROTS Arc 270, ROTS Gunship, ROTS Greivous on Wheelbike, ROTS Tri-Fighter and the OTC Sandcrawler at the very least. I don't think I can bear to open up the OTC Slave one- that's one of my all time favorite window boxes- nor the Falcon Exclusive with the figures on top.

Great thread, I like to see the progress!

Re the OTC falcon with the figs on top: I would suggest cutting the figure display from the falcon box- I kept my figures on that because of the unique falcon interior background. But the ship is nice- I really like what they did with the taillights-

I actually managed to pick up one of the $5 sale varieties of the non-figure version so I'm good with that.   I might just say heck with it and put it up on ebay...

Hey everyone!

For those following the current freedom saga, this past weekend saw much happiness for plastic prisoners....

12" Luke w/ Speederbike
12" Leia w/ Speederbike
12" Leia/Boushh w/ Carbonite
ROTS Obi's Figher (the Red one)
ROTS Droid Tri-Fighter
ROTS Greivous Wheelbike
ROTS ARC-170
OTC Red Y-wing (Stupid Non-Canon repaint!!!!)
Clone Wars Hailfire
Clone Wars Geonosian Fighter
SAGA Red Leader X-Wing
SAGA Anakin/Swoop
SAGA Obi-wan's Fighter (Delta-7))
POTJ Cloud City Carbon Freeze Chamber

Passed up:  OTC Falcon Exclusive w/ Figures, SAGA ESB Luke's X-Wing (I may trade/sell this and then get the current Dagobah X-Wing instead) ROTS Republic Gunship (not sure if I need another loose one), , OTC Slave 1 (It just looks so cool in package and I already have a Slave 1 and 300th Fett loose), SAGA Trash Compator sets (look better packaged and flimsy when loose from what I've seen), POTJ Aniversary two-packs (look good in package and doesn't take up space)

Debating: 12" 100th Figure Luke, 12" Jango Fett, 12" Anakin/Vader Ultimate Villain, OTC 12" Figures (repacks... right?)

That's all for now--  I've definitely freed most of my boxed stuff at this point!

Another plastic freedom update from last night:

ROTS 12" Figures- did YOU know that Bariss and Shaak Ti came with clear stands while none of the others did? I certainly was surprised- these are the same stands that came with the Amidala Portrait Edition ones...

Episode I 12": Watto, TC-14, Mace, Qui-Gon (what crappy hair!), Darth Maul, Battle Droid, Jar-Jar

Action Collection- Electronic R2 and 3P0- cool but you'd think they coulda had R2 make some sounds rather than just light up.

Only a few more shelves to clear out.....

It was insane.  ;D

Nah, rip open Grievous!  To hell with his so-called dollar value, he's way cooler open than stuck in the box.

The smell is a cool aspect of opening, but I recommend a well ventillated area, especially when opening large batches of toys.

EEK! I'm a MOC completist who has just started my own miniature carded fig extermination. the gb obi-wan, two gb tac ops troopers, two gb royal guards, mace windu's starfighter. i know exactly how you are feeling now, oboewan, maybe even worse... :P but i love having more tac ops troopers. i'm thoroughly enjoying posing my jempa fig slaughtering them. i'd love an evo anakin right about now.  :-\ *sigh*

Hey Oboewan, I too would like to see some pics of your unboxing event. Sounds like you're having fun freeing the ships and figures, though.
On a similar note, I decided to open some of my carded figures. I started with  UGH Han, Kenobi, Skywalker, and Cody, along with Celebration 3 Darth Vader. I already had a loose UGH Grievous, so now he doesn't look so lonely. I have a UGH Snowtrooper, Scorch, Vader, AT-AT Driver, and Fett left to open. I can't wait to free them.
Oh, Oboewan, sorry about derailing your thread. I just thought this might fit in here.

I hate to agree with PD but Scorch is not worth opening.  The figure looks nice in plastic but once you open it you are in for a series of dissapointments. :-\
Title: Re: "The Great Unboxing of 2006"
Post by: Greg on November 13, 2006, 05:52 PM
Hey Gatillo, what did you mean with the dissapointments with Scorch? I opened it and I like it. He could've used some knee joints, but I knew what I was getting with him.

Pit Droid- The C3 Darth Vader is really nice when it's open. The figure kind of stinks though, but the base makes the perfect home for my Evolutions Darth. It also looks nice next to the Darth figure with meditation chamber.

I had a similar "unboxing" event earlier this year.  After spending all of last year stationed in Korea, I returned home to pretty much all of the Episode III stuff reeased up to February '06.  My wife was kind enough to track down pretty much all of the 3 3/4" figures as well as the deluxes and a few other items.  I have always been 99% an opener, but found it very hard to tackle such a nice, carded, collection of stuff all at once.  I put it off for quite a while and then, one day....

Now that's the kind of carnage I'd like to see in this "Great Unboxing of 06" thread!!  I'm a boxed/carded collector so seeing pictures like this brings a tear to my eye, yet it shows me how much space I could save if I could just toss my OCD.   :-\

Well.... 12" Greivous has been freed... what a crappy figure it is though!   His weak, tiny hands can't even grasp a single lightsaber... not to mention all 4 of them!   I'll have to get some of the "bands" and use those for posers... err... posES I meant..
Also unleashed my remainng Collector Series 12"ers... Sandtrooper, Modal Nodes, ATAT, TIE Pilot, Tusken, Greedo, Luke Bespin, Luke Ceremonial.   Still holding on to my SAGA Jawas and Obi-Wan.

I'll try and get some pics up this week!

I had the exact same review when I opened mine last year.  I actually turned him into a statue and glue the joints so that it would stand properly.  I'm considering getting the arms casted so that they aren't as flimsy.

Worst figure of 2005 IMHO.

Well... all this unboxing has got me in a fervor!   I'm even thinking about de-carding my POTF/POTJ/EPI/SAGA figures at this point...
I've got my OTC, POTJ, and ROTS hanging from the walls... so those would be the "last".   The others are all not so wonderfully boxed away... think of all the space I could save if I just tore them out of the package?

Methinks I need help....

sorry for shifting this from oboewan to me, and for the double post, but last night I went through my own great unboxing (again), thus the writing under my avatar. I opened:

TSC DSG (very cool!)
TSC Clone Orange (to go with my other opened one)
TSC Cody (what a mistake! not a very impressive fig)
TSC Firespeder Pilot (nice!)

and more is probably yet to come. stay tuned
