Nice way to start off the Military line.  Of course, since each one is different, I have to buy all three.

ya these are cool i'm not into, the 12 inch figs, but i definately would be getting these if i didn't have OCD about the 4 inch line.  why can't habro be more like the side show line?  It'd be cool if the middle one was Rykrof Enloe, but oh well.

Definitely a cool start to the military part of the line.  Sideshow's work continues to impress, and I really wish I could afford it.  Seeing something like this (groups of three figures, $60 each) reminds me that there's just no way I can.  It sure does look nice though.  I wouldn't mind Hasbro taking a cue from this line as well, as far as just making each figure of the best quality - maybe limiting releases a little more, and focus in on making just what collectors want.  I realize the lines are very different, but there are some things that could really be taken from what Sideshow is doing.

I hate to say it but I'm officially trying to put $$$ away for these right now...  I want all 3 too.  This is gonna kill me but the military line is as good as mine.  I won't be doing the rest of the 12" line but I have to have the military line at this point.  Those are just too sweet and everything the 3.75" line should be (relatively speaking) in awesomeness.

Wasn't Leia the beginning of the Military?
I want all 3.

I doubt if I will pick these up even though they are fantastic.  If I had all the main characters from the Endor scenes then I might be tempted but without Han, Luke and Leia (Sideshow versions anyways), there's no point.  I didn't know a thing about this military line so this whole post was quite a shock.  Is there going to be some kind of stormtrooper line??
Title: Re: Sideshow 12" Endor Rebel Soliders
Post by: Paul on September 21, 2006, 08:44 PM
I might snag them to get the uniforms and stick them on one of my Dragon figures, the Sideshow heads have always been a little off for me.  But $60 for a uniform set seems a bit steep.  I really want this part of the line to prosper though, so I will probably go ahead and snag them.  a proper 1:6 scale rebel rifle...how can you turn that down.

I'd like to have the main characters in their Endor gear too, but as I said the heads for Luke and Bespin Luke are not right to me.

Leia Boussh was the first in the Bounty Hunter line I think.

I would think this line would cover stormtroopers and clone troopers.  I think Sideshow is still working on how to make the armor.

I believe I heard once Sideshow got the 12" license, they would have six lines.  We now have:  Heros of the Rebellion, Order of the Jedi, the Sith, Scum and Villiany, and the Military.  Any guesses for the sixth one?  Also, am I remember correctly that they said six lines?

Expanded Universe?  It's the only one that Snowbunny Padme would fit in.

I don't think we'll see stormtroopers/clones from Sideshow directly.  They just announced that they will be distributing the RAH Medicom Clonetrooper - why spend the money on tooling if they can sell Medicom's version?

So far, I have not been impressed with their figure selection.  I've been waiting for classic iconic characters like Han Solo (ANH), Lando (ESB), Obi Wan (ANH), etc.

The line (to date) has been nothing but head swaps with new hands and some accessories.

This is news to me, but i don't know how i feel about it. I think that they are overpriced for generic characters. Seeing three of them worries me very much. If they plan on doing it with the Endor soldiers imagine how many different clone troopers they will do. I am undecided if i will buy these.

Actually as far as I remember the beard guy & the jacket gut appeared in the movie. Not so sure on the first one in the line-up though.

I agree, i think the bearded guy was in the movie too, but still its alot of for them to release at once.

He was in the Scout disguise. These will be the only Endor Rebels I buy from SS.

Sideshow will make Clones and Stormtroopers, but stated that they won't happen in the first year.  They've started with simpler figures that really only involve clothes and heads.  I'm sure the cost of producing clones and stromtroopers will be high, and they need to make sure the line is selling before they get into them.

I can see that logic, but i think after Luke went up for sale, they knew the line was going to do well. I don't buy that excuse. I think they are being smart about it though. They know everyone wants stromtroopers so why not wait a bit. In the mean time some of those people will buy other figures they may not have nomrally purchased.

I agree with evenflow. Well, I don't think SS has done a armored figure yet though, so they're testing it out.

You guys maybe didn't notice but we have a clearer/better scan of the Troopers up in our front page story on the latest Insider that arrived at my place today...  Here's the image for your viewing pleasure.

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/7-06/Sideshow_RebelsTN2.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/7-06/Sideshow_RebelsFULL2.jpg)

Click the image for the full one as it's pretty large but detailed.

As far as the troopers go, all 3 were in the film...  The one in the hooded outfit went into the bunker with Solo and Leia, I believe he's the guy carrying the bomb satchel (or one of them).

The Trooper in the Trench Coat was hard to spot in many scenes at all but he was seen ducking behind a piece of equipment during the battle and the equipment got blasted just as he hid behind it.

The Bearded Blonde Trooper is indeed the guy that steals the Biker Scout armor in the cut sequence from the film.  He's seen with his hands on his head in surrender as Han is led out from the Bunker, and he's also seen very briefly slipping the Scout helmet on as Han/Leia and company enter the bunker.  He is also seen as part of the Matte painting of the bunker battle sequence as a dead guy just outside thebunker doors...  He was killed seemingly just as the fight erupted when the Ewoks attacked.

He's pretty noticeable throughout the Endor shots though, even before they get to the bunker and all.  His beard helps him stand out of course.

I wonder what, if any, exclusive accessory will come with the guys.  I am planning on all 3 figures.  I hope the "exclusive" stuff isn't interesting so I don't have to care about pre-orders on that stuff.

My guess for the bearded guy exclusive would be a biker scout helmet. Other than that I have no idea. Maybe some thermal detonators.

These are very cool but I don't know if I can justify $180 for three Endor soldiers.

Maybe I'll just buy one for the time being.

What's everybody's plan?

Title: Re: Sideshow 12" Endor Rebel Soliders

My plan is to skip these.  To bad as they are very nice.  I just have never really cared for the Endor Rebel Soldiers for some reason?  If I had to pick one I'd take the older guy.
Title: Re: Sideshow 12" Endor Rebel Soliders
Post by: Jesse James on September 28, 2006, 03:08 AM
I'm buying all 3, however I don't collect any 12" figures anymore so I feel it's justifiable really...  I'm also starting a savings for it now to make sure I have the $$$.  It's a big buy for me, unfortunately.  :(  I wish they chimed in at $10 or $20 less but I have to be honest in saying I believe you get what you pay for here.

I've always been impressed with SS's "Bayonets & Barbed Wire" line (I'm a huge WWI enthusiast, it's highly overlooked in the US as a major conflict and turning point in history) and they did an outstanding job on those.  Their Civil War line is really nice as well...  I find their headsculpts to be nice, but Dragon does dominate in that category.  These 3 Endor guys look spot-on to the actos though, as bit parts as they were, but the main character headsculpts are much more debateable I agree.

For Troopers though I'm in on these.  Hell they even got the 3 main Endor costumes down...  :)  You can't beat that kind of detail to what the troops are wearing.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm hoping that if they do exclusive accessories that they will only come in the bundle vs just in the singles. It nice to get the $25 gift card too but won't really do me any good since I only collect their 12" Star Wars line and they never have any "in stock" to make the gift card usable.

I am going to snag  at least 1 bundle and perhaps a couple of the trooper.

I've already un-storaged the Dragon figures to get better head sculpts (I'll have to track down the right one for the bearded guy)...

Now I finally have an excuse to assemble the half-case of Marmit Stormtroopers I got years ago too..

I think I'm gold now. :)  I checked late last night and I was ok, thanks Mike.

This is a huge purchase for me, so I'm kind of anxious and at the same time fearful of the debt, haha.  I don't like incurring this much at once...  Sounds silly I know, I just hate it.  I'm anal about things like this.

Yet somehow I'm giddy...  I just love these figures.  They're exactly what I'd hoped Hasbro would've done a while back but they ignored the rebels for the most part, and wouldn't have done this well anyway.

Sideshow has posted a nice Q&A (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?page_id=2051) on these...

- The "Strike Force" Bundle should go on sale tomorrow between 6-7PM Pacific (9-10PM Eastern).
- No exclusive edition is planned...
- But, 2 of the figures (Rebel Sergeant and Nik Sant) are ONLY available via Sideshow's website.
- Individual figures are $60, the bundle is $180 (the only savings is in the lower shipping cost)

Head on over to Sideshow for the whole thing.   ;)

I did the same thing. Ordered it to be on the safe side but can cancel if I decide I don't want them. I just don't have the "need to have it" feeling like I did with the Jabba set. Not sure If I can justify the $200+ on these.

Well, this is my first ever SSC 12" pass.  I have every single Star Wars 12" exclusive figure thus far, but as cool as these Endor Troopers are, they just aren't worth the close to $200 price tag for background characters.  That and they are pretty scarce with their accessories.  I mean add  sachel/charges, thermal detonators, bundle discount, something to make these more appealing.

I'm kind of glad in a way, I got the completist monkey off my back.  I'm now having second thoughts on the Jabba set, and Bib...

I got a set, my first 12" figures since the Imp Officer from Hasbro actually, haha.  I was happy to buy...  $60 each isn't horrid and you get a bit of stuff (helmet, rifle, detailed uniforms, bandoleirs, etc.)...  I'm happy with these, but I also don't buy any other 12" series.  This'll be my only 12" line I collect since the military is a HUGE part of why I love Star Wars...  It's one of the best fantasy series with military in it.  I really look forward to Fleet and Hoth rebels actually...    And of course some armor-clad Impies at some point.

I caved and got the bundle too.... and will probably get the rest of the line.   As for fantasy with military in it, I really suggest picking up On Basilisk Station by David Weber (yeah it's more Sci-fi than Fantasy)- the whole Honor Harrington series is the bomb!

These are nice figures, but why not start with stormtroopers or clone troopers? Althought the Endor Rebel soldiers serve their purpose, screen time wise and the coolness factor seem pretty low to me.

Woo hooo!

The Fed-Ex guy was there at my house when I pulled into the driveway.

These 3 Troopers are great. The quality really shows when they're displayed outside the box where they can be posed with all their accessories and they're outfits are allowed to hang more naturally.

My favorite is the pathfinder(old timer). He has the least accessories(not by much), but he just seems to have the most character. He's cool, just by repositioning the helmet seems to draw out different moods.

My 3 are in the mail as well...  Forgot to post about this.

Can't wait, they look outstanding and come with a lot of stuff.  I'm gonna outfit them with some extra gear I think for their packs and things once I get them, and spiff them up a bit.  Love these though.  Outstanding figures.

Title: Re: Sideshow 12
Post by: Jesse James on April 18, 2007, 06:33 PM
I got my set of 3 yesterday...  Pretty fast shipping really.

The Troopers are nice figures and I like that SS fleshed out some EU debate by listing the specialties of the troopers as Commandoes, as well as giving them ranks more based on uniform than rank badges (as by ROTJ there was no military advisor helping, and thus rank badges are generic, so EU's playing them off as other pieces of equipment than rank designation).

The "Sergeant" in the trench coat rocks...  Probably my favorite of the 3.  He has the thermal shirt, the coat is really nicely designed and decoed, the bandoleer of goodies shows it's less a bandoleer of grenades and more a bandoleer of parts (for his weapon?  For an explosive?  hard to say).  The helmet's multiple plastic pieces meshed with the cloth center make it a really interesting design too...

I'm a little disappointed that some of the pouches are basically glued shut.  That's ****** for people who want to load them up with equipment or whatever.  I think the backpack can be fiddled open though (Sergeant's pack is the cloth variation).

I see some differences between Dragon/Side Show in how they do things...  They're both pretty good, but I'd like more "function" on costumes in the future (IE: Pockets that open, etc.).  A sidearm on oen of the troopers would've been nice too, as it seems "unlikely" that none of the 3 would have one.

The "Trooper" generic figure is really nice, and it's cool to see he's got a hooded shirt underneath his uniform vest too...  It's a little known costume detail on the Endor outfits actually.  The vintage and POTF2 figures have it, but it's kind of tough to tell that's what it is.  The "Trooper" has probably the neatest outfit though I think.  His pack is also the modular "metal" design used on Hoth which is great because I wasn't sure they'd give us this design...

The Nik Sant figure just makes you long for a basic figure of him in Scout disguise as well as his "pathfinder" uniform.  The figure's headsculpt is true to form, showing that Nik Sant isn't "old" like many mistake him as being, but rather he's just very blonde with a bushy (been in the field too long) beard.  He too comes with the cloth pack...

Again they all 3 have the same rifle, which is the "Rebel Rifle" based on the MP-44 German assault rifle (the predecessor of the AK-47, and really most modern assault rifles).  A nice weapon...  Would've been nice to see removable energy clips though, something common on 1:6 scale figures, and perhaps a sliding stock since that's how the weapon appears to function in a way.  Can't have it all though.

Overall though I'm happy with the purchase but the cost is definitely something to think of in the future.  I may not buy these in 3's if that's how SS is going to do all troop types.  I don't think I can justify it honestly.  One figure, probably the most "generic" is how I'll go forward with this line, as much as it pains me to cut any of them out.  I just love the military aspect of SW so much, but the cost is rough to choke down.

Good figures though...  The "these guys look like GI Joes" tag some have applied to them is pretty baseless since it's a criticism of design for the film and not the toy...  As toys representing the characters, they're outstanding.

Might I also say, the Sergeant and Nik Sant figures are outstanding likenesses of both characters.  Close inspection of the Sergeant's scenes shows he's a spot-on sculpt with the goattee and all.

Like I Said in my news post, if Hasbro did 3.75" Rebel figures this nice, there'd be a LOT less bitching on my part.  I might even have to change my signature...  at every forum I visit.  Ugh.  ::)

I have to say I am very happy with Nik Sant. Happy enough that i got on the waitlist for the one with the goatee.

I noticed that the Seargents rifle is slightly different. Way to go Sideshow for taking the time to make it a little more unique.

Great eye Gamboa, I missed that...

The rifle's not just a little different, it's 100% different.  I'm guessing it might be based on an M-16 base while Nik Sant and the Trooper's rifles are based on the MP-44 base (most commonly known base weapon).  The Sergeant's rifle is REALLY different though.  The rifles did have some variation in what real-world assault rifle they're based on, but I'm not familiar with all the bases.  The one with the Sergeant just looks very M-16-ish to me while the other two have a weapon clearly based on the MP-44.  The Sergeant's is really tough to tell.

I just bought the Trooper on eBay for $52 shipped; I was waiting to get under $50 so this was close enough  :P.  The various pics and descriptions from you guys clinched it for me.  I knew I would never get the bundle, and while each one has some accessories I like (such as the trenchcoat and cloth backpacks) I think the Trooper is the most definitive of the 3 as a good representation of the strike force.  Some folks display him without the tan vest, and that looks good too!

I think the Trooper might be my favorite, though his non-com is pretty nifty too.  Nik Sant is the "dull" of the group...  Like his backstory as a pathfinder though, not a regular trooper, so that's interesting.

Still, there's room for improvement all around with them I'd say too...  I'm gonna do a little customizing to my group actually to make them more realistic w/gear, but at the end of the day I loved the bundle set.  They look good together.  I doubt they do too many more like that bundle of 3 though.

I wasn't initially going to get these 3 so didn't pre-order  ::)

Now having seen the write ups I'm going to pick them up or at least jump on a wait list and see what happens.

Also think a Hoth Rebel set (at least a trooper and commander) would be a good.

I think our very own Paul Mundheim was selling his 3-figure set if you're interested Andy.  I could be wrong but I'll point that out to him.

I just finally got around to taking them out of the shipping box and was pretty impressed.  Unfortunately, my Sgt box was torn at the top but I'm an opener so I really don't care (not worth the hassle sending it back I think).   I can't wait to free them up and display them with the rest of my Endor 12" stuff

Wasn't this supposed to come with a 30$ gift card? I didn't see it when I looked through them.

I believe it's in the box of one of the troopers, the Sgt. perhaps?  I haven't really looked for mine either since I rarely buy anything from SS, but I do recall seeing it somewhere in someone's box.

The gift card came in the box of the one with the trench coat.  It should be taped to the circular part of the stand.  You can see it as soon as you open the flap.

Okay, thanks. I haven't actually opened them up, just the boxes. I didn't see the card like i do in all the others and I got worried.

Thanks for the tip.  Finally got around to opening mine and couldn't find it anywhere either!   ;)
