Title: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Dan on February 18, 2007, 07:37 AM
Thought I would start a thread to get this info out there fast-  Toys R Us is having a buy one get one free sale on all SW action figures and accessories- INCLUDING THE BANTHA!

Toys R Us.com has them for 44.99, buy one get the second free- At that price I might have to cave and get a second for all those great VTSC tuskens!

Also, titanium IG-88 and clonetrooper, Galactic Heroes, the big wing TIE, titanium exclusive TIE, and more!

They've got some great deals, including the CW gunship and TIE fighter w/ large wings, 2 for 44.99

They do have the bantha Buy 1 Get 1 Free, but it's not in stock and the preliminary ship date is 3/25/07.

The website has some cool stuff but unless my brick and mortar store runs a "Buy 1 Get 50 Free" on Jerjerrod, he's gonna be around well into 30 AC release.

For some reason, they weren't taking PayPal tonight and thereby lost my $110 transaction. Boo and Hiss! I know they'll be loosing some sleep over that!  :P

I checked our local store yesterday, since they had been getting portions of the Final 22 over the past month or so (the first wave/Wave 8).  Of course, there wasn't much there unless I wanted repacked Emperor Palpatines or Jerjerrods.  Hopefully it does clear the pegs for some new stuff though, that would be great.

I didn't realize, but does this sale include the ships?  I almost picked up a white TIE at our local store this weekend, but thought I'd wait til they hit Target/Wal-Mart for $19.99 instead of the $24.99 TRU charges.  If it is BOGO, I might just go ahead and pick one up (or two).

The ad states it's BOGO for "all Star Wars action figures and accessories", and my TRU had a sign up that said "ALL SW TOYS BOGO", so I'd be going ahead with the TIEs, Brian. :)

I was able to get two Unleashed Geonosis 10-packs for 25 bucks (which was a great deal for me as not only did Target never even get them to put them on clearance, much less regular price, but also since TRU is the only place that still had them), but there wasn't a whole lot more on the shelves to be had.  Some of those horrid day-glo comic packs, a few new Titaniums (the Dewback series), and more Threepios, Jerjerrods, and Power Droids than you could shake a stick at.  I love how these sales are always held at times when the stores have literally nothing that would interest anyone, even a kid.

My store got what looked like one case of figures yesterday, Holo Cody wave, and that was it. I'm on my way out the door right now to see if they break out another case this morning. Now that I know the Tins are BOGO it's worth getting the 2 they have on the shelf since my Wal-marts never clearenced theirs out.

I made a quick trip to TRU today, and picked up a white TIE and got an extra with the BOGO sale.  I think they had pretty much all of the 30 AC vehicles there, but the figure selection was pretty poor - 7 Jerjerrods and 1 Rieekan.  Oh, and three Vader/Trooper comic packs.

The sale works online, too.  Even for pre-orders.  A friend of mine and I put in an order for a couple of the Bantha battle packs and it came to about $28 each.

I went ahead and preordered a couple of Banthas too.  I wanted to get one anyways since I missed the POTF2 version, so I figured why not get another one for free while I'm at it.

Ah, the lucky ones... at the store I got a 442nd Clone and Holo Cody.  Online I got some stragglers: Derlin, Gragra, Endor Trooper and Sora Bulq.  With the Google discount, it came out to being the same as getting them BOGO at the store.  I would have LOVED to have gotten in on those gunships, but I got to the site too late.  Sigh.

I went on a monster toy run tonight...  BAREN pegs at the TRU's I hit.  Not one basic figure to be found, and really not much anything else to be found.  Most vehicles of any size are gone (all the exclusives before the holidays sold out before the holidays though anyway).  The titanium figures were here and there...  I did spot tins at the last one I hit and got a couple.  Not much left though at the TRU's around Pittsburgh.  They're bone dry and ready for major restocking to go on.

Post by: Nicklab on February 20, 2007, 01:02 AM
TRU's have been pretty bone dry around here as well.  This whole BOGO deal seems like a way to get TSC stock out of the way in time for the 30AC line more than anything else.
Title: Re: TOYS R US buy 1 get 1 free sale 2/18 and 2/19!
Post by: Jesse James on February 20, 2007, 01:12 AM
Yeah they did a BOGO last year before TSC if I recall...  We had a good  many figures, and TRU was one of the only stores to stock many "Final 22" figures at any one time.  They're seriously empty now though, at least the two I hit in my area...  I'd say they're a good gauge for the local TRU scene though, and that's the emptiest I've seen the SW pegs at TRU ever...  They could get a major deluge of new stuff and still just look "normal" at this point.

I managed to nab 3 Sandtroopers (added a Green EII clone to get to an even number) and managed to also buy a pair of the collector's tin sets (ROTJ and ANH).

Since I refused to pay $25 or $30 for the one figure in each set that I needed, this was perfect.

I managed to get the EII clone on ebay for $12, the cantina pack for $13, these two for $15 each, and got the hoth contents from Paul... so, I'm only about $43 or so in and I'm 5/7ths done with only the EIII Driver and the EI droid to go.

Not too bad.  :D

I went into a second TRU this morning and found 1 Comic pack... I've been refusing to spend full price (out of principal) on these too but would have snagged them at Buy-one-get-one.  Unfortunately they only had one pack.

Well, I only had the chance to go to one TRU this week-end and it was the one with consistently the WORST stock (and yet, I have had one or two amazing "gold mine" experiences there, so I keep going back despite the overwhelming failure ratio.)

As expected, they had nothing.  But this time, it was literally nothing.  Zilch.  Not a single figure, tin set, battle pack, vehicle...not even the old, reliable peg warmers....

Not to be completely empty-handed, though, I did pick up two "spring action" lightsabers, which I had been considering buying for some time.  Now I have an extra....not a bad deal.

I am so behind the 8-ball. For some reason I thought the sale was week long, so I missed out on the Bantha pre-order. :P The sale did a great job of clearing out most of the SW product at my TRU's though.

I expected nothing, by the time I was able to get to a TRU yesterday it was 6:00pm and yet a TRU where I know collectors are literally sitting in front of the store and run to the SW and Hot Wheels sections at opening I was still able to score a S. Tiin J. Fighter and a White TIE  ;D I could not have been happier.  It's the first time I'd seen either ship and to score them like that was awesome.

I went to TRU yesterday over lunch and all I found were a TON of empty pegs and a store full of whiny kids (Thanks Presidents Day  ::)).

About all they had were some tins (Ep 4,5,6), a few vehicles (2x Vader TIE, 1x Obi-Wan JSF), and a bunch of mini-unleashed junk.  Ah well, at least I tried to find a deal...  :-\

I think so...

I believe last year they did something similar prior to TSC's release to unload extra ROTS stock.  As I recall they had more, but not quite interesting stuff available around me from ROTS.

I was seriously considering picking up two more Ties as well, but I went the Bantha route instead.  One for me, the other for another local.  My order came to $56 - not a bad deal but now I'm thinking I should have gotten the Ties instead.  I had no idea their website still had them in stock, but I'm not going anywhere near that $45 price point anytime soon :-\

If I'd have known that ordering online applied I'd have gotten 2 of the TIE's, maybe some smaller ships, and the Banthas...  Bummer about that.  I had no idea you could order BOGO too...  Saved me at rip out actually had I gone that route.

I didn't connect those dots either Jesse... despite going halves on Banthas with Paul, it didn't occur to me that this would be a perfect opportunity to try to get deals on the repainted vehicles that I've been passing on - Hailfire... Droid Tank... Vader's Starfighter etc...

Rob, I think you could have only gotten the BOGO deal on the repainted midsize vehicles at brick and mortar TRUs.  I checked online early Sunday morning and the only midsize vehicles they had online were the non-exclusive ROTS JSFs.  They also had the large wing TIE, Clone Wars gunship, and Dagobah X-Wing.  There were no Saesee Tiin's, Darth Vader Sith JSFs, or Hailfire and Droid Tank...  So you probably didn't miss out on those online unless they became available later.

My TAC I got this past evening were $7.39, but the one I got at the same store the other day was $6.99...  Guess they realized they could jack up the price.  That sucks...  But $6.99 sucks, honestly, so till I see $5.99 again I'm gonna bitch about the price regardless. :)  No figure this scale should cost more.

That may explain why at least one of my local Targets has 100+ cases of TAC figs in the back...I'm happy enough to have gotten mine early though and it's not that hard to take your receipt back to get a refund on the price difference.  Bring on wave 2!!

The same R2's hanging at my nearby KM...  I'm gonna go on a limb and say he's an early peg warmer. :)  Sure it's way early to label him that, but everything else is going otu the door and R2's chilling so I'm gonna at least give him that title tentatively.

It's pretty easy to predict this **** at this point...  Any figure could become "rare" if he is shipped hardly at all, while almost any figure can become a pegwarmer if he ships too much, but there's figures like Obi-Wan and R2 that you just know are gonna get there at some point. ;)

That's often the case Ice. Except for last year ('06) when this happened, they usually lowered the price after about two months though. And don't worry, they're not going to talk to the other stores. ;)

While the only Target I've gotten TAC stuff at was $6.99, the SAGA2 stuff still varies in price from store to store in my area.  I think most are $6.84, but one store is $5.84 (or something give or take a nickel from that price).  Another is $6.24 I believe.  Weird.

For those who haven't seen it yet, Target has some 30AC stuff on clearance already...

Most stores have a clearance price of 30% off the Vader with Coin Folder ($6.98) and the Battle Packs ($13.98) but a few places, including my local Target, have them down to 50% off already ($4.98 for Vader, $9.98 for the Battle Packs).

It was great to be able to grab two more Tantive IV Battle Packs at $10 each.   ;D

Yeah, I was surprised to see last night at an unfortunately distant Target that the Vader coin album was $7 and the Tantive BP was $13.98.  I think I'll wait until the next drop and pick them up if they're still there.

Our local store had things on clearance as well, but the Battle Packs were all gone by the time I got there.  I think there were 6 or 7 coin albums on clearance for $6.98 each or something like that.

Pitt's apparantly littered with Tantive IV packs actually...  A friend picked up one for me so I managed a couple extra Stormies for a good price.  I'm happy now. :)  I figured I'd miss out on these all together actually.

From what I've heard though people are walking in and finding them in some bulk around here yet.  Dunno how things will be tomorrow though.  It might've been the slow-down of the weekend and people not stopping in on their commutes that allowed them to sit around on the weekend some.

A few local stores still have a couple of Tantiv's for $14 and I have seen a few DV Coin sets for $7, but they are out of both at most stores.  I'm still waiting for O66 to clearance so I can stock up on troopers!  ;D

Found a Target with half price Coin Albums... and the stores the were dragging their feet on clearance final put the stuff on clearance. Had to resist picking up more stormies, but the BP's ones serve a very specific function for me, so more than what I have would be extraneous.

Yeah, instead of waiting and missing out, I got a coin album and Tantive BP last night for $4.98 and $9.98 respectively.  If any BPs make it to $5 I'll get one more, because I'm a cheap (frugal) bastid  ::)

Got 2 DST's, a Luke (hadn't seen him yet) and the E1 Tin...  For $36.  Nice...

I hate the screwjob on 2 figures only, but whatever.  I'd liked to have gotten 6 DST's but oh well.

Got that tin I wanted so I'm done on those.  Buy of the night right there.

Jump on it while you can guys, though Wave 2 and Wave 1 30AC were slim pickin's...  :(

I too landed Order 66 sets for $7 today.  I got a few Marines, few AT-RT's, etc.

And our Target UNLOADED on these...  I'd say at least 3 or so cases worth were at the Target I frequent, and almost all new within the past week.  That store was down to a handful of RT Driver/Obi and Yoda/Spinach Troopers...  really dismal and I expected nothing.  They had many full sets available though, well till I got there anyway.

They're already down to $5 at a couple of the Targets in Mpls.  I was actually heistant to buy them at that price because there's so many left...I'd be shocked if they all sold before there was another price reduction.

That's pretty crappy.  I wouldn't condone this no matter what, but on $5 clearance toys?  How about if the slacker at fault just gets a minimum wage job instead?  I'm sure you'd spend less time and have more money than it took to repack and return items to cheat Target.  >:(

The people who do the switcheroo returns are the ones who really need to be punched in the throat. Not hard enough to kill them. Just hard enough to make them vomit and never do it again. Kind of a Pavlovian thing: They start to think about swapping figs and they start getting dry heaves.

I guess the figure switching is at least better than the guy who's returning the O66 packs with just one figure in them.   ::)

If anyone's stocked up on these, and wants to unload some stuff...  I'll take:

-Camo Clones
-RT Drivers
-Jedi cloth capes

And honestly I'd take others but the more popular figures I figure most people want for themselves, but the RT Driver and Camo Clone are kinda on my want list, as are cloth Jedi capes/robes if anyone is selling those (Mace's sucks though...  Anyone else wonder why it doesn't have a hood while other Jedi's do?).

Anyway, yeah I liked those figures and capes.  I thought the O66 were a deal at $7 honestly.

I don't know if this will go anywhere or not, but on my afternoon toy run I saw numerous 30AC vehicles (V-Wing, Infiltrator, white TIE Fighter) in WM's clearance section.  However the stickers were still for full price ($19.97).  I'm going to keep an eye on those, but considering that the 30+ Vader coin albums are still sitting in the same section for full price, I don't believe they will be reduced any time soon.  They also still had the re-released Obi-Wan and Anakin ROTS Unleashed figures for full price in the clearance aisle...

The reason that you're probably seeing the vehicles at that place in the store is because WalMart's original planogram didn't provide any space for the 30AC vehicles.  Hasbro had to convince WalMart to pick up the vehicles line by making them jealous of Target and Toys R Us's sales numbers.  So now you'll see them in odd places like endcaps and clearance sections.

I know that's true at our local store - the vehicles seem to be jammed wherever there is room (the same goes for the VTSC and Father's Day packs).  They're all crammed at the end of the "extras" aisle (not clearance really, but just a mish mash of stuff in one aisle).  You can occasionally find a vehicle in the Star Wars section, but its usually full of role play lightsabers and blasters.

One of my local Wal-Marts did their big reset about three days after the TF movie toys hit, and it filled me with a great thrill to see all those dust-ridden Threepios, Jerjerrods, and Padmes in a cart, ready to be pushed to another aisle.  There were eight mostly empty pegs (aside from a few Kenobis, R2s, and a single Airborne Trooper) ready to be stocked with 30AC figures after months of nothing.

Then I went back in later that afternoon and found that everything the WM morning toy employees had placed in the carts to be put on clearance were now back on the pegs, apparently put back by the afternoon employees and/or their manager.  You know, because an inch of dust makes a toy even more sellable at regular price and everything.   ::)

Final peg count:  8
Final figure count:
1.  Endor Threepio:  27
2.  Jerjerrod:          11
3.  GB Threepio:       7
4.  GB Padme           3
5.  30AC Kenobi        3
6.  30AC R2-D2         2
7.  30AC Airborne      1

Hooray for the 29th Anniversary Collection!  :P

Rob, did they price check them to come up with $1.24, or did you suggest that price?  I ask, 'cause I've seen a few leftover sets at $0, and just tell the cashiers the final $2.48 clearance price that they were at last week, and that's what they charge me.  But if they somehow went even lower than the 75% off, I'd probably suggest they price check them for me from now on.  I've seen 85% - 90% final clearance prices a couple times in the past, but thought it was just a bizarre circumstance.

That's because all the Legends figures are under the same generic SKU as the TSC figures Anthony.  You'll see the same thing when you buy them at Target, they've got the same DCPI there, so they ring up identical to the TSC figures from last year.  Which of course means, unfortunately, that last year's TSC figures are not going to technically hit clearance at Target for a long time to come (once the Legends line has run it's course).  :-\

Also notable is that the regular 4" Battle Packs (087-06-1707) finally popped back up to full price again, effective last Thursday.  They were still sitting at $4.98 on Wednesday everywhere, but come Friday morning they were all back up to $19.99 everywhere again.  Weird.  Guess this means the newer BPs that we saw at C4 are going to start trickling out soon, hopefully.  Oh well, $4.98 was fun while it lasted!  8)

Are you sure about that?  I thought Wal-Mart set up pricing by UPC for each figure.  They won't let you buy one character and return a different one, and having each character in the system allows them to do that, whereas Target will accept anything with the same DPCI.  They might batch code pricing among a group of items, but i think each one has its own WM code.

You're right. Otherwise all the Legends figures would be $3.50. I had been meaning to compare the individual UPC's on the TSC stuff to see if there's a match to the TAC which is generating the price match. In lieu of that, perhaps the character name is triggering it.

I wish we would have seen those prices around here on the Battle Packs.  Earlier this year I saw some of them on clearance for $9-something (at the time, I think it was Mace's Squad), but otherwise things have been full price.  I don't think our Target actually has any BPs at this time, but hopefully there will be more soon.  I would have liked to get a Tantive pack or two for the Stormtroopers, but the only place in town that has them is TRU - for full price.

I suggested it, $2.48 is the 75% off price, the 90% off price when clearance items really really don't move is completely normal. I see it a lot with holiday stuff.  Thinking that since they were down to $0 they'd gone (in the computer at least) through and past the 90% off price, I told the kid that the lowest they'd have gone was $1.24 (which was me cutting the $2.48 in half - which was actually bad math on my part.  The lowest they'd  have gone for is really $1.02 - I think.

Either way, he checked with his boss and everyone was happy.

Yeah, me too.  I just noticed the sale on Tuesday or Wednesday (I'm not sure when it started), and saw all of those ships for $5.75 (plus some good deals on other lines).  I kind of dislike how TRU is set up, where you can't see if something is "in stock" until you click into each individual listing.  You get excited that you're about to get a deal, only to see the "out of stock" label once you open the page.  I don't know how long these deals were up, or even if it was a mixup, because yesterday the same items were still listen in the "up to 75% off sale" section, but were listed for full prices.  The sale is supposed to go through Sunday, but now I see the "75% off" page has been changed and doesn't seem to include these things anymore.  Oh well, its not like I needed any of those things, but I would have probably picked up 1 or 2 of those ships I skipped (Tiin's fighter, Grievous wheelbike/AAT/Hailfire) for $5.75.  Plus, I would have definitely picked up that 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime for $22.50 :).

I used two of the coupons this weekend at TRU to pick up a 21st Cent. Toys halftrack they got in, 2 military figures, a Galactic Marine, an Airborne Trooper, and a Stormtrooper.  Every little bit helps I figure, so some army building for $6 a figure instead of $7 is a big help.

There's actually a new coupon on the TRU main page. It's more or less in the middle of the page, 20% off any single item from 8/12-8/18.

I sure hope the TIE interceptor shows up before the 18th.

Yep.  It was good from the 12th to the 18th.  That coupon book Anthony mentioned has a couple nice coupons in it too, including the $5 off $25, but even better, there's also a 15% off coupon in there.  Not quite as good as 20%, but still better than we'd usually find from TRU.  I guess all my constant complaining in their online surveys that they didn't have any decent coupons (to negate their inflated prices) has finally paid off...  :P

The B2G1F sale actually was in effect earlier this week, at least at some stores, as my buddy locally got it on Thursday and scored a bunch of UGH on it!  How's that for a deal!?

I stopped by Friday and used my $5 coupon for the Y-Wing to exchange for my $35 version...They said the wheely things were completely "sold out" and that I couldn't get a rain check.  What's better is that none of the cashiers knew ANYTHING about it and they had to radio in with several supervisors before getting an answer...

Gave my one local K-Mart a shot today, and they did have the sale signs up.  But the stock was limited to a couple Stormtroopers, a few Legends Vaders, and 1 of each of Miiyoom and Elis.  So apparently they did get wave 4 and I missed out on CZ and McVader again!  I may pick up another Stormie later in the week, but at this point army builders lose their appeal at $6 and $7.  Give me a $2 to $3 sale and I'll army build again.

Got this e-mail from Hasbro last night:

"FREE STAR WARS FIGURE with $25 STAR WARS Purchase
Free STAR WARS figure with any STAR WARS purchase of $25 or more at HasbroToyShop.com. The free gift given will be HASBRO'S choice and will be automatically added to your cart. Offer applies to pre-tax and pre-shipping amount. Not valid at retail locations or at any other websites. Cannot be redeemed for cash. Offer expires December 13, 2007 at 11:59 PM (EST) or while supplies last, whichever is earlier. Not valid on previous orders. Offer may expire without notice due to availability, error, fraud, or other unforeseen circumstances. Subject to terms and conditions of use. ©2007 HASBRO. All Rights Reserved."

Don't know what we'll get, but it's something...

Went to order some star cases and the Yellow SL AOTC Clones and when my order went over $25, they added a free Vintage Endor Leia to my cart.  Not my first choice of figure, but free none the less.

I think you're the second person who I heard got the Vintage Leia. When they were doing the free figures, I thought basic for sure. Vintage is a nice surprise, even though it's Leia.

Thanks for the bump - I went ahead and ordered a pair of Dark Troopers and a pair of Yellow Legends Clones for $22 shipped.  Now I just need to find the rest of the lame-o sandtroopers and a red clone.

Not bad at all.

I used it last night, code worked...  However, my ship notice was telling me some stuff did NOT ship...  I gotta check it and see what I'm getting and what I"m not.  The way I was reading it (quickly) before I left was that NOTHING shipped, yet I got a shipping notice...

If my order's cancelled, I'm raising hell this time.

Speaking of this kinda **** by the way...

I was at K-Mart to check out the sale.  The sale explicitly states "All SW Basic SW figures $5.99"...  There's no distinction in collections or anything.  There IS a picture of loose Saga figures, however the add's wording is what binds the retailer to the deal.

So anyway, I go in...  Saga and 30AC are not the same price.  30AC got a price hike to about $7.60 or so around me.  I found a bent up McBacca, a Tatooine LUke, and a Stormtrooper...  I go to the register and am told they're $6.92, almost a full dollar more than the sales ad, so I'm not pleased.  They're still ringing up on sale, but not on the sale price advertised.

I usually don't bug management, but this time I was annoyed, so I pointed it out to the clerk...  She said, "I am sorry but I refuse to give you the discount you want.  The ad does not apply to these figures, it must apply to something else, as these are ringing up on sale sir, as you can see, and you should be happy with that price I would think".

Now I'm pissed off...  So I told her to get her manager on duty because this is false advertising...  She sent me to customer service, so I wander over and showed them everything...  The CS lady was real nice, and was being real pleasant.  As soon as I got there, the manager was on her way over by chance, and she caved on the price adjustment immediately.  I explained to her theyr'e all "basic Star Wars figures", and that the advertised price was what I wanted them for.

She didn't really argue but was clearly annoyed.  The CS lady was much nicer as she adjusted the price for me and I left, but regardless I was annoyed.  This is the type of **** that is the direct reason NOBODY wants to shop at K-Mart.  They piss you off, they try to "get one over on you" at any turn, they're ALWAYS more money...  I try to appreciate K-Mart, and I like the competition, but this type of stuff just drives me nuts I guess.

I got my figures, but I shouldn't have had to fight for this in the first place.  I mean, holy hell the people at WM would read the ad and give you the adjusted price without hesitation, and it's not even their ad!  Why in god's name do you have to fight for the price at the store that's advertising it then?  Just such bull****.

I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd check HTS again.  Still no McSnowtrooper. I did check my order status and both of the orders I placed using the code indicated that they were "expected" to ship today.  The only thing that has an expected ship date out later than today were the 4-LOM figures I ordered.

As things came in and out of stock yesterday, I think I ended up placing 4 orders - and since the shipping was free (due to the code), I didn't mind.  Checking the order status page now, two of them are "partially shipped" and two of them aren't.  I really hope that the code still works, although I'm sure they'll try to pull it out somehow.  I definitely don't want to pay shipping for four different orders, so in some of those cases I would just as soon cancel them.  It really isn't our fault that they still had the code working, and heck, with the number of orders they must have had yesterday (just from here alone, it looks like things must have been moving pretty well), you would think they could just honor anything that was still going through with the code.  Then again, we still remember the whole McQuarrie Luke thing, so things might not work out too well.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

My one order I made is listed as partially shipped, and lists all figures I ordered as not yet shipped.  Very strange, as it couldn't have shipped, if nothing shipped...  right?  Or am I getting an empty box soon while I wait on the rest of it?

I got the same thing on two of my orders.  Looking at them closer, it looks like the "new" stuff I ordered has a shipping date of 10/24 - and these orders both qualified for the free gift (one Star Wars, one Marvel), which have shipping dates of today.  So I'm wondering if they are considering them partially shipped because of that, if they are shipping the "gifts" seperately, or we're just getting these confirmations now and it will all ship later this month.

I just caught Jesse's news post (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1192597896,65792,) on the main page, and apparently Target is purportedly gearing up for yet another big Star Wars sale next week.  Pretty strange, considering they just had their 10% off sale two weeks ago.  They must have a big backlog of crap, which would explain the inexplicable absence of new product at their stores over the past few months.  Probably want to clear the old glut out heading into the all-important Holiday season as well.

So it looks like the 30AC basic line will go on sale for $5.99 a pop.  Even better than their prior sale.  Good stuff, as that's back to where the figure prices really should be.  Transformers for $11, and select other SW stuff on sale too.  Time to load up!  8)

Thanks for the scoop Jesse!

Agreed on price matching...

Now's an IDEAL time for people to army build.  $5.99's as good as it's been in ages price-wise to pick up extra AOTC Troopers, Stormies, DST's, etc.

I hope to get a number of "extras" this week if I can find time to do so...  And don't go too ape**** with it financially.  It's a good idea to get it while the gettin' is good, and at the moment my nearest WM's got lots of stock to pick from as far as the men in white armor go.

Everything I ordered showed up except McQuarrie Vader, so I better get that Vader soon or I'm pissed.

I got a notice saying almost everything "rare" on my order was NOT shipped, yet I got most of it save that Vader.  Very odd stuff going on with them this last time around.

I got the wrong colored pit droids, which was disappointing, but for the price I got (plus a V30AC figure), I can't complain much.  I just want my Vader McQuarrie I got at the price I paid.  I passed one locally from a buddy for this one, so I better get it.  >:(

The price reduction is in Wal-Mart's "Wish Guide" for 2007 Holiday shopping.

Just an FYI for anyone ordering from HTS.com.  I placed an order a week ago and did not automatically get the vintage figure.  I placed the order anyway to get the figs before they were gone, but called to request the VTSC fig this week.  I got the run around TWICE, but persistence pays off.  They finally gave me a supervisor who agreed it was a mistake on their end and sent my a Bossk in a seperate package free of charge.  If you didn't get your free fig, it might be worth giving them a call.

As our front page says...

AT-RT is $24.99 starting December 9th (Next Sunday), and "Other Select Star Wars" things are on sale too...  Good time to maybe pick up the AT-RT sets if you're patient on them, and a good chance to maybe get some of the other exclusives at a discount too.

Good luck, and let there be something new for us to find...  Probably not, but eh. ;)

TRU Price Hikes!

I noticed at TRU today the Y-wing & Elite Tie were raised yet again to $35.99 up $1 from the second price hike of $34.99. They started out at $29.99! (Glad I paid that when I pre-ordered) and the Geonosian pack was raised to $61.49 from $59.99.

$61.49 does not even make sense! It was already hard to swallow as is. I never picked it up but I have a 20% off coupon and was pondering buying it. Forget it.

FYI - You usually have 30 days to get a sale price from the time you bought it. If that's the case that they all go on sale I want some money back for the ARC's/Tie Bomber.

Probably not either, but I did just score them in about a 2 minute window.  Last time I went to order them they came and went in less than 5 minutes, and I missed out.  This time, I landed them.

You missed it.  I've posted before when **** has been in stock, and taken out of my cart within a minute before I could even check out.  It just happened to Ice with the Hawkbat clone as well.

Anyhow, my last 3 purchases from HTS have been that way, ever since they instituted that "1 per customer" thing.  I don't know why, but I used to buy many multiples in 1 shot, and not be in fear of it being taken out of my cart 60 seconds later as I was checking out.

Today I got lucky I guess.  If you want I can post a digital pic of me unpacking the box when it gets here.  I don't know what else to tell you.  I've been there, take a look at my post from November 27th - HTS's version of "Gone in 60 seconds" (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=14920.msg335412#msg335412)

It seems like they have been putting infinitesimally small amounts of the newer waves of figures up at a time, of the newer waves, and on top of that have slapped the "1 per customer" rule on them as well.  I have ordered from HTS.com a lot, and I have never been met with these 5 minute windows, and 1 per customer obstacles before about a month ago.  This has been a new thing.

I just read at RS their round up of Hasbro ?'s that the price of the comic packs is going up to 11.99 staring next year. Some dumbass actually asked Hasbro to raise the price sot hey could get "better" articulated figures! I thought the purpose of the comic packs was to give the collector a break on the price since it was cheaper to pack the figures this way, according to Hasbro. Well cross these off my list for a maybe buy next year!  >:(
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jesse James on December 8, 2007, 03:46 PM
A buck on two figures for, essentially, $5 won't break me, but it's annoying for certain...  And any tool asking FOR a price increase is really just not thinking straight.  Sure it'd be great if they follow-through with an articulation increase across the board with this increase in price, but the odds of that happening?  Slim and none...  Hasbro doesn't do anything across the board with price increases...

So that's the way the ball bounces I guess.

"A fool and his money..." and all that jazz.  Clearly he wants people to take his cash.

Ideally the figures would improve slightly, but really most of them were pretty decent to begin with.  Move Luke's ankle joints to his knees and he's suddenly a much cooler figure.  That could be said for several others too.  Relying on Hasbro to "come through" for you on that price increase doesn't seem realistic to me I'm afraid.

I still haven't seen anything after Legends and Wave 4 put out in bulk in any of the Targets in my neck of the woods.  I have a feeling that all through Feb and March, waves 5 through 8 are going to hit en masse.  That's how it worked with the Appo waves last year.  I was buying Appos in Target in May.

Walmart and TRU have been awesome.

Target is becoming less of a stop for me too. Where in the hell do they dig up the pricing numbers $12.07? $12.30? I have even seen some other products at $30.49 a other weird numbers. Round up or round down, this weird pricing may have played into the fact that Target was the biggest Toy loser this holiday season. Their numbers in toys overall was way down from last year.

Anyway back to topic...I found a Vader coin albums at $5.00 each at Wal-Mart & GIJOE 5 packs at 17.49 at Target.

I don't get it either. We have 8 Targets in my immediate area and two of them at the one end of town always seem to flirt with jacking the basic figure price up a buck. I've asked management why that is and they say it really depends on how close the closest WM is, if there isn't one close, they can jack up the price because of lack of competition. This is obviously BS since these stores are closest to one of only three WM's in town. One is in walking distance. My guess is that the Target's in question are in the richer part of town.
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: JediJman on January 9, 2008, 10:27 AM
Target has a set grouping of stores in each region that test higher pricing versus their other stores in the area.  We have 30+ Targets around Minneapolis and you can clearly locate the test stores, which are often 5-10 miles away from a store with lower prices.

There is an initiative to comp to Wal-Mart, but they are also just testing sales rates at different prices.  If they found that profit improved despite a volume decline, they would then have rationale to increase prices across all stores.  Nifty way to test higher pricing, but frustrating for consumers who prefer to shop at the HP stores.

I usually don't let it affect my purchasing if I find something rare, but I try to not buy common stuff at the pricier stores and always try to make my returns to those stores to put them at a disadvantage.

At a few of the price testing stores mentioned above, we had Saga/Legends figs at 7.64 for most of last year, so could be just this subset of stores using that price.  Never made sense to me that they would put Legends $.65 higher than the basic line, which was being priced at $6.99 in those stores.  ::)

Save $5 on $15-25
        $12 on $36-50
        $25 on $76-100

Feb. 1 thru March 23... you need the store receipt but doesn't look like you need to cut the POP for all the non-openers.

I think it because WM, unlike Target, each figure has their own "code' if you look at your receipt from WM each figure is listed by name. They do this so us tricky collectors do not return figures that we did not buy from them. Like last year with the gold coin UGH I did not want the silver coined figures I had already bought  so I returned them once I got the gold coins.

The TRU sale is a good deal for most people/occassions, espcially if you want figures in multiples of 3.  The Target $5 coupon gets you close depending on number of figures desired, so if you want 4 figures or 8 figures and the Target assortment is better, splurge on the few cents extra per figure.  My local Target has figs for just $2.24, but if I buy 12 of them, I can get the price down to $1.82, plus tax of course.  ;D

bull****.  Read it again.

Assuming the TRU price of $6.99 is nationwide, it's 100% exact.

Hoollee panties in a bunch.   :o  I thought you meant $4.66 with tax added in, which to be fair, isn't that big of a misunderstanding based on the way you wrote it.  ;)

I checked our local TRU today to see if there was anything to pick up with the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale, but unless I wanted an army of Holo Vaders, Elis Herlots, or the polka dot clone, there wasn't much there.  Just as well, I didn't really need to spend the money, but thought I'd pick up some more Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, or AOTC Clones if they had them in stock.
Title: Hasbro REBATE deal
Post by: Blue_Harvester on March 9, 2008, 04:25 PM
Click on the link to read the hasbro voucher deal...  (this was in my local Pittsburgh sunday paper coupons)

HASBRO PlayRewards deal (http://www.hasbro.com/playrewards/?CMP=ILC-playrewardsint&site=hasbro&adtype=140)

Basically, for every $3 you spend on SW (and other brand) until 3.23.08, you'll get a rebate coupon
for $1 (33%) of that amount for FUTURE SW purchases...

-BUT- (ding ding ding  ;D ;D ;D ) its *retroactive* back to Feb-1st.   If you're a receipt-keeper (like
I am), then you can send in your old receipts for free bootle...  Ive already got the $150 in receipts
to send in for my six free figs ($50-worth)

Hope this helps the average Joe Collector out there.

-BH

p.s.  you dont have to send in UPCs/Proofs-of-Purchase, *JUST* the original receipts.
Also, you *do* need to verify that each of your star wars toys is in their list of elegible toys, but it
looks to be complete.  Also, you can add all the toys you bought on a 3x5 card, and dont have to fill
out multiple rebate forms for lots of items.

Shitbiscuit. Nowadays I toss most of my receipts immediately, and just keep track via the instant-updated online banking and the monthly statements. I'll do a bit of digging but it doesn't look promising.

But it's a really sweet deal for everyone else who's organized. Thanks for posting it!

The K-Mart ad from the front page would sound promising, only their prices are so high that the sale brings it down to about Wal-Mart level pricing.  I think regular figs are $8.99 and everything else is about $2 more too...
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jesse James on March 10, 2008, 01:08 AM
Mine I think is still $7.99...  The sale at least opens up the possibility of buying something there, whereas I normally wouldn't check because I won't pay the premium price they want...  I only go there generally when I hear they're getting something in nobody else is.  They got ROTS figures weeks before anyone else, so they were great back in 2005...

The only place to get the repaint waves here of years past was KM too...  Thank god for after-thanksgiving sales at that time.  ::)

Today I was Target and noticed a new price sticker on the figure pegs

NCF Star War - 3 3/4 action figures   $7.34

Is that wave 3 figures?
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jeff on April 25, 2008, 03:23 PM
NCF = "Not Carried Forward"

When a store marks the pegs like that, it means that they are not expecing much more and that clearance is coming soon...
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Phrubruh on April 25, 2008, 03:25 PM
So these are new cases of figures. Could be wave 1&2 but most likely wave 3?
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jeff on April 25, 2008, 03:31 PM
"NCF" on the pegs is a way to let the redshirt employees who stock the pegs know that they may not get anymore in stock in case a customer asks about them...

And, there is no "2008 wave 3" for the 30AC stuff.  Wave 2 (TFU) is the last wave of 2008 30AC stuff.

In July, we switch over to Wave 1 (RotJ) and Wave 2 ("old" CW) of the Legacy collection, which has a totally new DPCI number.

If NCF is Not Carried Forward why does it have a price? Does that mean the new wave one legacy figures will be this price?
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jeff on April 25, 2008, 03:47 PM
If NCF is Not Carried Forward why does it have a price?

"Not Carried Forward" means not carried forward to the next quarter.  In other words, it's a DPCI # that is about to die... but it hasn't died yet.  That is why it has a price, because there are still some in the distribution chain to sell.  If the price went up, it's simply a "last chance" to grab some cash before the clearance sets in...

Does that mean the new wave one legacy figures will be this price?

At last check, the new Legacy basic figures DPCI (087-06-0991) was showing a price of $7.99 at most stores...  :-\
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: David on April 25, 2008, 09:49 PM
So what will they have on the pegs then?

I thought they said they were just gonna ship Wave 1 and 2 as well as some of the harder to find figures over the summer?
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jesse James on April 25, 2008, 10:38 PM
If I'm not mistaken, they'll still have Wave 1 & 2 shipping most likely, it's just they won't be seeing anything beyond that.  There's likely some in the pipeline yet to go though, and since they're the last of the line the NCF makes sense then...

At least that was my understanding of it, I could be wrong on it.  Jeff I'm sure knows more than I do on all this.

Also, this has no bearing on Wal-Mart or Toys R Us and their orders.  Hard to say what they'll get in May, June, and beginning of July.

I believe all of the last four are going to be released in the new packaging.  I'm a little surprised to see these on clearance as well - none of the Target stores around me have had stock for the last month or more...maybe could have sold those for full price if you actually had them on the shelves Target.   ;)

Went to 2 other Targets in the area yesterday after work and none had them clearanced, and none actually had them out on the floor either.  ::)  But there would've been a shelf tag if they clearanced them and they'd just been bought up then.  Went back to the store that I saw the original clearance at this morning and notice that the box was ripped were the accessory area is on the box, though nothing was missing, so I'm wondering if it was marked clearance because it was "damaged" but then again why the shelf tag and don't they usually put their clearance items on the back end caps?  So now I'm thinking this might've just been isolated to that store and to that 1 box.  They didn't have any other Evo's to check the price on either.

And you'd have a nice inexpensive rancor to boot.

I think I'm actually all set.  After I posted I ran up the street and managed to find one.  The question now is do I try to sell the rancor or do I keep it.  I probably won't know until I get it out of the box, but given the almost certainty that an OT rancor will be on the way in the next year or two, I think I'll probably part with this one.

Was at a Target saturday and saw a couple of these sale items.  They had a ton of the order 66 packs, but I have a complete set so I passed.  They had two of the Rancor packs for $19.98 a piece, but I didn't have the money to spend on then, so I walked passed them.  Later, my Wife was in the magazine/computer game isle and an older guy comes practically running through with the two Rancors and a hand basket of other toys.  He was in such a rush to get these he was knocking stuff off the shelves.  I'm sure his plan was to get to the next Target, so I understand what he was thinking, its still funny to see an adult in such a rush for toys.

I've seen it noted other places that the basic figures are on sale too, but they were regular price, along with the Mighty Muggs and I think the comic packs.  Though i think the Muggs are carrying the same packaging through the Legacy/Clone Wars line.

Re: your story of the older guy in Target, Keonobi, it's always shocking to me how many times I've been in the store at exactly the time another collector buys the last of something.  I mean, I'm probably visiting a store once every 3 or 4 days, and I'm in the toy section for about 5 minutes, yet it happens to be exactly the same time as the other bozo  :-\.  Strange phenomenon!

Just an FYI, people are starting to report that Target is posting notices that they've canceled their $5 coupon. Apparently some are altering the coupons to make them general coupons, not just toy coupons. >:(

There is no alteration required.  Their system does not require a toy purchase, just a purchase of at least $25 or more pre-tax.

How did Target flub this so badly?  They offer a coupon online, don't limit its use or distribution and then don't even limit it to the areas of the store it specifies.  Seems like they didn't really think it through.

Official announcement from Target:

July 02, 2008

Target Coupon Fraudulently Tampered with and Transferred

Target no longer is able to accept the coupon
MINNEAPOLIS, Jul 02, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Unfortunately, due to fraudulent tampering and transferring, Target no longer is accepting coupon offers for $5 off a $25 or more toy or general merchandise purchase at Target. The coupons state they are valid through October 1, 2008.

Target sent the original coupons for $5 off a $25 or more toy purchase via e-mail to approximately 85,000 guests during the months of February and March. The altered coupon had an image and the word toy removed to make it appear to apply to any purchase.

Kathee Tesija, executive vice president, merchandising, Target, said, Our goal is to always surprise and delight our guests with great values, and we are disappointed that some of our guests may be inconvenienced by our need to respond to this fraudulent tampering and transferring.

Guests who originally received the coupon will be notified via e-mail that the coupon no longer is being accepted, and they also will receive a $5 Target GiftCard by mail. In addition, Target stores are posting signs at all check-out lanes alerting guests that these coupons are no longer valid.

So all of us that have a valid coupon that has the word "TOY" on it are just out of luck?  ??? >:(

What a crock! They figured out that this thing has circulated around billions of times and are loosing a crap load of money because of their screw up. I am still going to try and use mine to see what they say. Since 90% of cashiers don't pay attention to what they are scanning for coupons it is possible to get it to slip by.

Red the article, if you were one of the people who received the initial e-mail, you will get a $5 coupon in the mail. Signs are supposed to be posted in each checkout lane alerting not only cashiers but consumers of the cancellation of the coupon.

If you used it once, then count yourself lucky as that was supposed to be the intended use.

I'll count myself even more lucky as I'm certain I used them 6-8 times or more. And gave away a good dozen or two to people in the store at the time.

Lame indeed.  I just got back from Target before reading this and I tried to hand over the coupon on some Transformers, but sure enough - there were pictures of the coupon up at every register explaining the "fraudulent activity"  It never did work for me on a general purchase, but I can understand.

I am betting it has nothing to do with it being altered for general purchases.  I think it was probably used more than 85,000 times and Target recognized that it was an issue.  It was sweet while it lasted.

I just used one the other day too.

Bummed to see this go, but it was good while it lasted.  What I find funny about all this is that they claim coupons were "altered" to take away the message that it needed to be a "Toy Purchase."  While I used most of mine on toys, I've not had one cashier refuse them or even question their use on products outside of toys.

I guess the claim that someone tampered with their coupons makes for better publicity than...
"Our cashiers didn't take the time to read the coupon or weren't properly instructed on how to use it" or
"Whoops! we don't know how to code this type of offer into our registers!"

I think someone in finance just finally caught on that they were getting a heck of a lot of these coupons and wanted an excuse to shut it down. I wonder if they truly lost money on this - while it was running, I was almost exclusively buying everything I could at Target and frequently bought more than I would have to get over the $25 hurdle.

Well, if it was indeed shut down because they were tampered with or folks were using them for non-toy purchases, then those people are a-holes. Sorry if that's some of you here, but I NEVER had a problem using these coupons - but then again, I never tried to use them on a purchase for anything other than toys.

The timing of this change certainly sucks, couldn't it have lasted just one more month? Of course not! Star Wars collectors are coming in droves on July 26th, heaven forbid they let us use a couple of these coupons to offset the price $1 price increase in the figures.  ::)

Ultimately it wasn't supposed to be a repeatedly used thing, so everyone who used them more than once used them "fraudulently", technically.

However, I do think it sucks...  I'm disappointed, but I also think it was fun while it lasted.  Ultimately I wouldn't have shopped much at Target without them though, and actually considered writing to them and letting them know that.  Their toy selection is dismal most of the time, and short of exclusives I find nothing but disappointment at their stores generally.  Not that WM is much better, I just would avoid both those stores if I didn't have a hobby to keep up with actually.

I wonder though, how much did the card drive actual sales numbers up?  I'd love to see that, not that I ever will, just to see if the coupon actually helped them.  If I were a betting man, I'd bet it actually bumped them up while it was available and valid.  I'd equally like to see if things won't drop off a tad for them afterwards.  I know I personally did most of my IJ shopping at Target because of the coupon...  Now, why wait?  Just go to Wal-Mart and get what you want since they seemingly have had "it" (whatever "it" may be) in more routinely than Target does.

I like Target for their cleanliness, and some other points like open checkout lanes and all, but ultimately I'm disappointed in them for a variety of other reasons I'm not disappointed in WM.  They're pretty equally dismal places to shop.  I will say I'd rather be ignored by WM's employees than looked down on by Target's.   :-\  Sad, that that is the choice you are left with.

I actually prefer to shop at Target over WM any day of the week.  Outside of the fact that there is a Target every 5 miles in the twin cities and you have to drive to the outskirts to find a WM, Target's are cleaner, they have wider aisles, faster check out, better guest service, AND you can actually check the inventory at most stores.  I don't know of any other retailer of any kind where you can actually do that.

All that being said, I still shopped more often and Target while the coupon was running and I rarely left without making a $25 purchase, so I'm sure they saw an increase in volume over this time period.  The question is whether the increase is enough to offset lower profits...

Yeah, I agree with you there.  It seems like it must depend on where you live, as far as store experiences go.  For us, the wife and I really like to shop at Target - and pretty much buy everything there (if they carry it).  The Wal-Mart closest to us is almost always a nightmare (dirty, super busy, etc.), so we avoid it if at all possible.  I try to give the majority of the business to Target or TRU, unless there is an exclusive or the price difference is huge.  Actually with so many TRU stores shutting down the past few years, I've tried to give our local one the business when possible.  I'd like for stores like that to be around for our daughter and future kids - I remember how much fun it was just getting to go in a store like that when I was growing up.  Sure, being from a small town that only happened like once a year, so that could have been part of the excitement, but its nice to see some of those simple pleasures around for this generation and beyond.  They don't seem to appreciate that stuff the way we did, in some ways.  In general, our Target stores here are really nice to shop at.  We've never had trouble with check out waits (even on Black Fridays), the stores are always clean and well organized, and there's plenty of room to get around.  Comparatively, we always seem to leave Wal-Mart angry, because the whole process is frustrating.  Again, it might just be a regional thing.  Plus, our store has taken away the self checkers (maybe that is nationwide), one of the nice things they actually had there.

Anyways, back on topic, that does sort of stink about the coupon.  I think we used one two or three times.  I hadn't actually found much SW stuff since the coupon was available, but used it on some Indy stuff - and we used it when shopping for our nephew and daughter's birthdays the past couple of months.  Its too bad that some people had to abuse it, and now that option isn't there.

Bummer about the whole thing, but I had no idea that the coupon was handed out to only 85,000 people and intended for one use. I've actually bought more than $50 worth of toys a couple of times and asked if I could do more than one transaction to use two coupons and never got shot down.

Target was kind of lazy to their detriment about the whole thing though. They could have easily keyed the coupon to work with DCPI 087 (toy) purchases only and should have not refunded customer the value of the coupon back upon returns. Not hard to do technically.
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: JediMoses on July 3, 2008, 10:38 AM
The coupon really did not suggest it was a one time use coupon.  It was a one coupon per transaction.  I used the coupon often, but always only for toys and always for purchases more than $25.  If I wound up returning something, they never deducted the coupon, but that is their computer issue, not my use of the coupon.

I am grateful the coupn worked and I am sure Target benefitted a great deal.  I have not bought a toy elsewhere for four months, exclusives excepted.

Ya know what's weird?  I found out that half my entire department were using the "fraudulent" coupons after this story made the rounds yesterday.  I had no freakin clue it was being abused past the toy collecting community.

I think the "one time use" thing was more a technical aspect of the coupon...  When you got it and printed it out, you couldn't open it up again to print another.  Someone found a way around that though, obviously, and shared it with the world.  (Yay for them by the way)

That's where the "one time use" deal came in...  It technically was something the 85,000 people were to get, print, and never be able to print out again, but they'd at least have the original to go use.  There's obviously ways around that though and people used them.  It is, without a doubt, all Target's fault...  The "removing 'toy' from the coupon" thing though that was going on, was what seemingly ultimately screwed the pooch on this one, and so that is annoying.  Target may have been able to take greater steps to stop that from happening, but ultimately it was people doing that who seem to have stopped all the fun for the rest of us...  Unless of course Target would've caught on that people were using the coupon a ton, and ultimately cancelled the whole program anyway.  I'd love to know if that would've been the case, or if they simply would've just let the good times roll as long as it was used on toys?

Well, I guess I disagree with a lot of you on this.

#1 - anyone that thought this coupon was just randomly thrown out there for everyone to use as many times as they wanted is pretty niave in my book.  Pretty much any coupon that reprinted in the forums was not meant to be delivered to a broad audience and certainly something that offers $5 off a $25 purchase is not intended to go to millions of homes for multiple uses.  People can claim to have not known the details, but I'm betting most people at least suspected they were getting a deal that they really shouldn't be getting.

#2 - I can't believe people think that it was the use of this coupon for non-toys or the actual change in wording of the coupon that caused the coupon to be discontinued.  I used this coupon a lot and sometimes not on toys, but each of the coupons said "toy purchase" on it.  I never had a cashier refuse it - they just scan the UPC and if it works, it works.  Changing the wording on the coupon is a scapegoat for Target - a reason for them to cancel it without admitting their own fault in the process.  Companies need to plan for any kind of coupon in their budget, so if more are redemmed than estimated, they go over budget.  I can guarantee you that if they really only intended this to go to 85k people, they didn't budget for anywhere near 85k of them to be used and they obviously started getting in excess of this number rapidly, so they shut it down.

Maybe I'm just too sensitive this week, but I find it shocking how many people are trying to blame each other for this coupon going away.  It was a great deal and lasted a long time.  99% of the people that got it and used it, probably were never intended to have it, so if you used one even once, just be thankful that you got a good deal.
Title: Re: 30AC Prices - Sales, Discounts, Price Hikes!
Post by: Jesse James on July 5, 2008, 01:27 AM
That's pretty much what I said...

Except for the part about the "rewording it to work with any purchase"...  I have no reason to believe Target didn't get altered coupons in, and decided to shut the whole shebang down.  There's no real need to scapegoat...  They could've just said the coupon is being reprinted online, and left it at that, and voided all future coupons...

So, yeah I do believe some were altering the words on it to suit them.  I used the coupon extensively, and sometimes I tried to eek over the $25 mark to use it by getting a candy bar, and I got denied...  I had to get something more pricey.  Case in point, I got an Indy truck at Target and I picked up a FOV figure...  That didn't come to $25 before tax, and so I tried to pick up a candy bar, and the girl said it had to be a toy purchase...  So people did get denied that.  So likewise I can see people tampering with the coupon in photoshop (why not?) to get around that...  I could see people who didn't give a **** about toys doing that actually, right from the get-go.  I can also see the "altered" coupons being what really ultimately alerted them to what was going on in the first place.

I agree on the first point at least though...  There wasn't anything random to this coupon till it got leaked out by whoever first saved and distributed it.

It was fun while it lasted...  That's my stance on it.  I'm not irked, but I do believe people tampering with it ultimately brought it into the limelight.  I don't see a reason for Target to fib on that, and part of me thinks they were letting it slide for a while.

If target wanted to do a promos like this here is what they should have did instead of doing this internet/email thing which is just like low hangen fruit for people that would take advantage of something like this.  They should have radomley picked stores throught the chain and have someone at the door handing out coupons like this, kind of like they do at Disneyland with their "dream teams" that hand out goodies at the theme parks.

So target has basically cleared out it's shelves around my neck of the woods, but the Walmarts & the 1 TRU around me still has plenty of stock left over, I'd have thought that by now both of these stores would've cleared shelves by now to make room for the new product coming out.  This is way more then a new wave coming out or even whole new packaging, this is for a new movie and the animation stuff is basically a whole new line in itself.  I just don't understand how these stores are going to stock up and have the room.

Well that's my neck of the woods how's it around everyone else?

Well the TRU I got my Falcon at seems to have no room. They moved the SW stuff to a smaller section only to be replace with wrestling toys  ??? They went from more than half of an aisle to the corner of another one. And the front of the store display is Batman with a ton of product littering the shelf and no where else to put them. WM on the other hand just hasnt stocked in 3 months...aside from putting the Falcons out early. No store that I know of has put the 30AC on sale yet...and knowing CDN TRUs it will be 5 years before they do that.

Went to Walmart over the weekend and found where they moved all the 30AC stuff they'd had stocked before Legacy/Clone Wars stuff had dropped, it was in a isle with all the other discounted items were but the figures still scanned at full price.

That kills me. They always do that. Clearancing stuff out without putting it on clearance.  :P

Ya I was all excited considering how many tri-droids were there

I was at FYE (a music/dvd type store, I think they are mostly in the northeast) over the weekend and they had some 30AC on sale.  I got a couple of the Rebel Honor Guard and a couple Death Star Trooper for $4 each.  They also had pilot Biggs, but he wasn't as interesting.

I went to Suncoast (same as FYE) and they had some old figures for $12.99. BIggs, Death Star Trooper, etc. Nothing new or cheap.

The two I've been to had some of the 30AC, like Maris Brood & the Kashyyyk Trooper still at $12.99 or so, but Biggs, DST and Rebel H Guard were $4.  I also got the C-3PO set of nesting dolls for $5.  I think I saw the Grevious set as well, which I'll try and get, they didn't have any others that I recall.

My wife and I needed a few things from WM last night and while we were in the store there was an announcement that for the next hour all clearance toys were 50% off.  They had "marked down" a few clean, white pauldron sandtroopers all the way to $6.63, so I got two for what was essentially the regular price for one.  Not bad.

Funny gobs of Tantive IV rebel fleet troopers have appeared from China sellers recently. You army build these guys for $2 a figure, no guns (assume they have helmets, since the stock photo pictures them)....if only they were vintage RFT's.
