The Vintage Collection / Re: Tonnika Sisters coming?
« on: February 7, 2012, 12:51 PM »
This definitely makes for an interesting discussion.  And over the history of the line we've seen both Kenner and Hasbro source characters from a myriad of different sorts of media.  The obvious ones?

-MOVIES
-TELEVISION SERIES (Droids, Ewoks, Clone Wars animated series)
-HOLIDAY SPECIAL (First appearance Boba Fett)
-VIDEO GAMES (SOTE, TFU, Battlefront & more)
-COMIC BOOKS

But there have also been sources from:
-DELETED MOVIE SCENES (Upcoming TVC wave)
-CONCEPT ART (McQuarrie Series)
-NOVELS (R4-K5 from Dark Lord, I-5YQ from DARTH MAUL - SHADOW HUNTER & Whistler among others)
-THEME PARK RIDES (Star Tours)

Based on all of those genres for source material, we have really run the gamut in terms of WHERE an individual figures origins have arisen.  A commercial would be new territory in terms of sourcing, but would it be all that much of a stretch considering the other avenues that have generated figures?  Considering the overall breadth of source material for figures I don't think source material matters so much.  So again, it comes down to the characters and whether or not Lucas Licensing will sign off on them.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Avengers (and sequels)

Kevin Feige recently stated that the Skrulls are NOT involved in the Avengers.  But the aliens in The Avengers are a race of aliens that have previously appeared in Marvel comics.

Looking at the trailer in still frames, I'm starting to wonder if Loki has enlisted the Frost Giants of Jotunheim.

The extended trailer is pretty awesome.  Especially the shots with the Hulk!

Not to add to paranoia, but I always worry about WM exclusives, they are so hit and miss around here.

That's why I bought the Super Vulture Droid and the Dewback as soon as I saw them.  WalMart may be the largest retailer in America, but they're also the most inconsistent when it comes to Hasbro Star Wars exclusives.

That's a lot of assortments. I'm really looking forward to all the new OT stuff, but am afraid pegs will get clogged with everything else before they're ready to hit retail.

I think once we get past Toy Fair these case assortments will make a good deal more sense.  Especially once the bigger etailers like BBTS and EE get the cases listed with official imagery.

But the inclusion of more Sandtroopers and Episode III Clone Troopers is a definite head scratcher.  The thing is, in most of that list with previously identified figures there were figure numbers next to each figure.  In the case of the Episode III Clone and Sandtrooper they were ID'd not with a TVC number, but the upc number.  Are we looking at different Episode III Clones and Sandtroopers in this instance?  It already seems clear that there's an Episode II Clone, but with the blue Lieutenant markings.  My guess is we'll get a Shock Trooper or Coruscant Clone from Episode III, and an alternate color pauldron for the Sandtrooper.

The vintage 3-packs are under $10 at Target and NO ONE TOLD ME.  ??? Heh. Haven't been Target lately...because they were barren last time I went.

The Legacy Arena packs are like $8 something...still higher than the two sales they had on them the last two years.

I scanned one of the Vintage 3-packs a week ago and it was still full price.  That Hoth Rebel Trooper is pretty awesome, but not $20 awesome.  On sale is another story entirely.

This list gives me the willies now that I've read all the way through it.  It reads almost like a rock band's farewell tour.

That was quite a data dump.  Lots of interesting stuff to talk about.  But I can also foresee the inevitable comments that "there were no surprises at Toy Fair", too.

The EU Republic Trooper from TOR would be a nice addition to the basic figure line.  Although that character does seem to be based so much on the PT Clone Troopers that it's kind of funny.  As for TOR, I've been hoping that we'll get at least one of the Jedi from the trailers.  No luck there, yet.

BTW, since when did Odd Ball get this name Davijaan?

Discover the Force / Movie Heroes / Re: TPM Mid-Size Vehicles

The Trade Tank is a worthy upgrade with the new cockpit and accurate paint scheme but the tool is starting to show its age. It's not that it's outdated looking, its the noticeable weak assembly of the toy now. It's been consistent in the line for a long time, this is it's 5th release! The small antenna on the top is losing detail with plastic flash and looking rough and the turret falls off fairly easily. Plus the large cannon does not stay on that great either.

I picked up two of these and will pick up x2 Naboo Fighters and x2 of the new WM Vulture Droid. Unless there is more new stuff shown at TF that's all I plan on buying. I passed on the redecos and re-release stuff. (On a Mid-Size vehicle side note I have never seen the Mandalorian gunship and guess I won't to even consider buying it.)

Any chance you could take some pics of the upgraded cockpit?  I saw it in the store and passed since I was picking up about $80 worth of battle packs & exclusives (gotta spread these purchases out!), but even when I was checking out the box it was tough to see any details.

I understand the height issue you've got with the Battle Droid.  I think if we can get some photos of the new Battle Droid figure folded up, then this new design might start to make a lot more sense.  Especially with the impending MTT release.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Thundercats, Hoooo!!

Did anyone catch TOY HUNTERS on TLC last night?  It follows the owner of Hollywood Heroes, which deals in some high end collectibles.  And one of the pieces that he acquired from a collector for resale was the ultra-rare Thundercats figure "The Mad Bubbler".  I for one was astounded that a vintage Thundercats prototype would sell for over $10,000!

Getting back to the new Battle Droid...

Has anyone tried folding up the new Battle Droid to get it into the storage position as seen here:

I know there are some gripes about the new Battle Droid design.  But is it possible that the design of this new Battle Droid was predicated on it being able to fold up for storage like this so that it might work in conjunction with the upcoming MTT?  I've got a few Battle Droids, but I haven't had a chance to crack these open yet in order to try this myself.
