Modern Classifieds / WTB for my daughter
« on: July 20, 2006, 03:18 PM »
Hello all,

Looking to buy a few loose figures for my four year old daughter:

POTJ FX-7
POTF2 Gonk droid

She absolutely loves Battlefront and any of you that have played will recognise the significance of the figures above.

She would also love some Buzz droids so if any of you have any spares out there I would appreciate you letting me know.

She has saved her pocket money so I am looking for these as cheap as possible.
Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone had been receiving final edition size plaques.  I received one for my elite edition Luke Jedi saber, but haven't seen any others.  I emailed MR and they said they would be coming out automatically.  Anyone been receiving any that I may have missed?

No I haven't received mine yet.
Apparently they are shipping in February/March.  This obviously means more on the March side of things  ::)

Yeah, GS, I didn't mean for it to sound like I was accusing you of something. I wasn't sure of the context you were talking about, and since you didn't mention any kids, I just assumed (wrongly) that you were alone. But I wasn't accusing you of anything; I was poking a little bit of fun at it, too, because I often am the only dad at parks...surrounded by mommy groups. I just wasn't sure of the whole context of your peeve.  Sorry if my post came off that way.

OK, cool.
Thanks for straightening that out.  :)

If you don't have a child, what are you doing at a school playground? When I take my two daughters to the playground, you bet your butt I'm going to look suspiciously at anyone that's childless and lurking at a playground.

However, I will agree that sometimes those mommy groups are like gangs. Well-intentioned gangs.  :P

Did I say I didn't have a child?
No I didn't think I did, so you took it upon yourself to assume  that I don't and that my being there was for some other reason than dropping my kids off.
I have three children which is why I am sometimes there, not that I have to explain anything at all to you.
Just what are you implying with your post Stormie?

Other Collectibles / Re: Most Valuable SW Item???
« on: March 7, 2006, 03:45 PM »
My most valuable item doubles as the piece that means the most to me.
It is the MR 1:1 ANH Obi Wan Kenobi Weathered.
It may not be expensive to some but at £320 it is definately the most expensive SW item I have bought.
I like to think that I offset the cost somewhat by paying way below retail on all my other sabers.

School Playgrounds.
Man, those places are like prison yards. You walk in and there are gangs of mothers grouped together sneering then looking up giving everyone who walks past the once over then it's back to the huddle.
By the time I walk out I'm damn near a quivvering wreck.

Listening to The Kaiser Chiefs - Employment. An excellent album.
Will probably go on to some Stone Temple Pilot, possibly No4, another beauty.

I am doing this at the moment, a little later than most people.
Have any of you played once trying to good and one being bad?
I keep trying to be good but I don't like to leave missions undone and have done a few things thsat I shouldn't of.

The best thing about the prequels was the Lightsaber duels.
To see Jedi and Sith in their prime was excellent.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Buzz Droid????????
« on: March 6, 2006, 03:22 PM »

That is a real pain that it comes with two larger items

The Vulture Droid w/ Buzz Droid is only $10...

Yes, but to a four year old who doesn't actually want the vulture droid  it is a lot in a relative kind of way.

I think that George was doomed to fail. Here is my reason:
Everyone expected the prequels to make them feel the same as they did when they saw the first trilogy when they were children. This was impossible, it was never, ever going to happen and when it didn't the whole thing got blasted, ripped apart, dissected and analysed.
Now is that the films fault or the over protective viewer who will never have their expectations matched?

Did anyone do this kind of analysing when they were 9,10,11 or however old they were when they first saw the OT. Vader was bad because he was bad, I know I didn't analyse every single line of dialogue, every movement or every motivation or whether his lightsaber swapped hands mid duel.

You have to remember that it was not the same as seeing something for the first time like when the Star Destroyer chased Tantive IV across the screen.
The FX in the OT was innovation and cutting edge at the time and the PT still is progression in a film making field, but perhaps people are more jaded now, less able to be fooled than the 9 year old and seeking FX that DON'T look real instead of reveling in what are arguably most believable FX ever seen so far.

IMO CG is being bettered in every new film that is being released, look at the CG in TPM then ROTS (also LOTR to King Kong) and you can see that in the what is it, six or so years how far it has come.

Anyway, enough waffling. Am I happy? YES, the whole SW phenomenon has allowed me to relive my childhood through toys etc. and experience it with my family as my daughter has now inherited my Geek.
Only today I have been trekking around toy shops looking for a General Grievous (with no luck I might add).
The films could have been a little better in places but I am now 31, but to my 4 year old daughter, they are the best films she has seen.

Yeah, these have just hit the shops over here.
The problem with these magazine series is that the shops only ever carry the first one or two then the only way to get them is to subscribe.
After christmas about 15 different magazine series started but  I bet that not even half of them actually finish.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Buzz Droid????????

MAybe do it variation style: a red Battle Droid with an opened buzz droid and a tan Battle Droid with a closed buzz droid, or vice versa.

That would be absolutely ideal for me.  ;D

Good question  ;D

IMO there will never really be another character that everyone knows so little about that becomes a fan favorite. What with comics, novels and cartoons etc. almost every character has been fleshed out somewhat. There are no more mysteries.

That said, I guess that I would have to go with Aayla Secura. She seems to be the most talked about 'minor' character.

Darklord, that is one excellent piece.
I have never even seen on of those before, so thanks for sharin' and thanks for the history.
