Watto's Junk Yard / Christmas Songs that Suck
« on: December 3, 2003, 12:07 PM »
The local oldies station plays Christmas music 24-7 from right before Thanksgiving until New Year's.  A guy in our office insists that the station be played 8-5 (8 hours 5 days a week)...this week alone I have heard such classics as Feliz Navidad one too many times but my all time teeth grinders are:

Barbara Striesand Christmas Carols of any kind (can someone explain that to me???)

The Snoopy/Red Baron Song...

The news had come out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again.

Twas the night before Christmas, 40 below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron, fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings Snoopy knew he was caught.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out, "Merry Christmas, my friend"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy, our hero, saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Watto's Junk Yard / Cup o' Joe?

Anyone here drink coffee?  I never used to until we had our son...it was the end of the winter and I sorta got hooked.  Well with winter returning again I have gotten into a coffee habit again.  Warms me up on the way to work plus that added caffiene buzz starts the brain working

Watto's Junk Yard / Favorite Coen Brothers Movie
« on: November 24, 2003, 04:17 PM »
Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
The Man Who Wasn't There(2001)
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
The Big Lebowski(1998)
Fargo (1996)
The Hudsucker Proxy(1994)
Barton Fink (1991)
Miller's Crossing (1990)
Raising Arizona (1987)

Having just watched The Hudsucker Proxy last weekend for the first time and having Bad Santa opening this weekend (they wrote the story) I thought it would be a good time to see what you think of the Coen Brothers (Joel and Ethan) who hail from Saint Louis Park, MN.

My favorite has to be Fargo.  Great movie, great plot, good farce on MN life...but a close second is O' Brother.  I love the look and feel of this movie so much, the soundtrack is great and George Clooney is awesome.

I can honestly say I have never not enjoyed one of their movies...genius

Watto's Junk Yard / The World's Last Great Mystery...Solved!!!
« on: November 21, 2003, 03:44 PM »
So...

We have all known Bounty Hunter GNT (nee Gasgano Never Talked, GNT etc etc) for many years now.  He has wrapped himself in an air of amonymity and secrecy not wanting to divulge anything about himself other than that he was from the land "Down Under" Australia

Well, being appointed President of the GNT Fan Club by the big guy himself it has been my goal to find a picture to frame and place over my computer.  I wanted it there to remind me "There's still time to vote" and "ISE" and "I predicted a Animated Clone Wars Yoda" and other nuggets of information that have benifitted posters at SSG, CSW, RS and GH for the last 5 years.

I thought the dream would go unfulfilled...but I finally got that picture...Ladies and Gentleman, I give you GNT

IMAGE REMOVED per request

Now I am sure he'll deny this until the cows come home...but I can say with 100% certainty this is Gregg in all of his glory

Now my question, what is that a sculpture of?

Watto's Junk Yard / Top Ten Albums of All Time...By Rolling Stone
« on: November 20, 2003, 01:36 PM »
Just read this over at a Gn'R Website...to be announced in the 12/11/03 issue of Rolling Stones

1. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles
2. Pet Sounds – The Beach Boys
3. Revolver – The Beatles
4. Highway 61 Revisited – Bob Dylan
5. Rubber Soul – The Beatles
6. What’s Going on – Marvin Gaye
7. Exile on Main Street – The Rolling Stones
8. London Calling – The Clash
9. Blonde on Blonde – Bob Dylan
10. The Beatles (The White Album) – The Beatles

4 Beatles, 2 Bob Dylans :o

Don't you think they could spread it out a little better ???  Although I won't really argue on any of the Beatles ones, all are great!

AS usual this stuff is BS but it does sell magazines and generate discussion

#4 is a sentimental favorite...Bob Dylan was from MN and Highway 61 is literally 2 blocks from where I work and my house.  If you see my location at RS, that is what that means :-*

Watto's Junk Yard / Hanna-Barbera Appreciation Society
« on: November 19, 2003, 11:23 PM »
I never really cared for the Looney Tunes bunch...oh sure I laughed when Daffy got his beak shot off continually or when Wily fell off the cliff.  But it wasn't really my cup of tea

My cup of tea though was the Hanna-Barbera crew

The Flintstones
The Jetsons
Scooby Doo
SuperFriends
Yogi Bear

Make up a pretty impressive 5 of all time great cartoons...

Their reach is amazing and it time we all recognize what William Hanna and Joseph Barbera mean to all of us

1. Ice Cream Maker Guy

How can they make Antilles, Dodonna, Dignitaries, Bespin Guards etc and say that Ice Cream Maker Guy is "getting too obscure"???

2. Celebration Amidala

One of the most beautiful gowns Padme wears in all of the prequels...I'd love to see this one made.  Unfortunately Hasbro is ignoring TPM

3.  Tonnika Sisters

We all have heard the BS, it is stupid.  Make these girls already

4.  Klaatu Jabba's Palace

This would be a great figure...cloth skin, cool and prominent background alien.  I just don't have much faith H will ever make one :-\

5. Wulf Yularen or General Tagge

For some reason I love this scene, it was cool that they gave us Motti, but the silent Yularen and the bald Tagge don't stand much of a chance.  It took forever just to get Ozzel for cripes sakes

Looks like MJ is in trouble  :'(

LOS OLIVOS, Calif. - Investigators conducting a criminal probe swarmed Michael Jackson (news)'s Neverland Ranch on Tuesday, a sheriff's spokesman said. The purpose of the search was not disclosed.

Authorities from the Santa Barbara County sheriff's and district attorney's offices served a warrant about 8:30 a.m. as part of an "ongoing criminal investigation," Sgt. Chris Pappas said in a recorded statement on a media information line.

The district attorney's office had no comment, said legal secretary Debbie Popp.

It was not known whether Jackson or his children were at the Santa Ynez Valley property, which has its own zoo and amusement park with bumper cars, a merry-go-round and Ferris wheel.

Nearly 10 years have passed since the 45-year-old singing superstar faced a child-molestation investigation in a case that never resulted in criminal charges.

The singer who had international hits with the albums "Thriller" (1982), "Bad" (1987) and "Dangerous" (1991), saw his career begin to collapse in 1993 amid allegations he molested a boy. Jackson maintained his innocence, and charges were never filed. He reportedly paid a multimillion-dollar settlement.

Jackson is also connected to Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano, who has begun serving federal prison time for possessing illegal explosives, and is being investigated about whether he secretly taped conversations of celebrities and their lawyers.

Pellicano, 59, reportedly worked for Jackson while the singer was under investigation for child molestation in the early 1990s.

As the raid was under way, Court TV reported that the warrant was tied to allegations brought by a 12-year-old boy. That could not immediately be confirmed by The Associated Press.

Jackson's spokesman, Stuart Backerman, did not answer his cell phone and did not immediately return messages Tuesday.

In a television documentary broadcast on ABC earlier this year, Jackson said he had slept in a bed with many children. "When you say bed you're thinking sexual," the singer said. "It's not sexual, we're going to sleep. I tuck them in. ... It's very charming, it's very sweet."

The search came on the same day Epic Records released "Number Ones," a greatest hits collection featuring Jackson's new single, "One More Chance." On Nov. 26, CBS is scheduled to air a Jackson special consisting mainly of old concert footage.

Jackson has three children, and caused an international uproar last year when he displayed his baby, Prince Michael II, to fans by dangling him briefly from a fourth-floor balcony in Germany, where he had gone to accept an award.

Jackson called the incident a "terrible mistake," and Berlin authorities said the actions were not punishable.

Not much is known about Prince Michael II, whose mother has not been identified. The singer's 6-year-old son, Prince Michael I, and 5-year-old daughter, Paris, were born during his marriage to Debbie Rowe, his plastic surgeon's nurse, which ended in 1999.

He was also married to Lisa Marie Presley (news), Elvis's daughter, between 1994 and 1996.

Jackson routinely keeps the children's heads covered with cloth while escorting them in public — and he usually sports a surgical mask himself when out and about. He has said he wants to protect them from the public eye.

Other Toy Lines / Ghostbusters Figures!
« on: November 13, 2003, 09:29 AM »
These were announced in Toyfare #77

Quote
NECA first got a sense of how much fan-demand there was for Ghostbusters action figures when they releasedtheir Ghostbusters "Body-Knockers"--bobbling figurines of Slimer and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man--earlier this year. "The reaction was huge," Chris Farinas said. "Action figures seemed to be the next logical step. The fan base has always wanted the line."
The first line of 7-inch scale action figures will focus on the creatures of 'Ghostbusters', including Slimer, with an ectoplasm display base and munching action; Gozer, with interchangable head and hands and translucent energy beams; terror dogs Zuul and Vinz Clortho, each with light-up eyes and a temple base; and an 18-inch rotocast Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, with a city street base, an altenate head and movable eyes.
In addition to the ghost figures, there will also be a line of Ghostbusters Genomes, featuring block figures of the original foursome--Venkman, Spengler, Stantz and Zeddmore--with a Slimer figure thrown in for good measure.

Watto's Junk Yard / Thanks to the Veterans
« on: November 11, 2003, 12:43 PM »
Just wanted to say thanks to all of those who have served the US in our military.  Thank you so much for serving and protecting our country...

Also wanted to say a word of rememberance for both of my Grandfathers who served in Europe in WWII and have both since passed on.  I often think if faced with a similar situation would I do the same thing that millions of others around the world did.  I hope so, but I am glad because of our military now and their efforts I haven't had to.

Thanks again... :-*
