The Prequel Trilogy / The EU Character is...
« on: September 13, 2003, 09:50 AM »
Durge :-[

-Lets clarify a little about the "new bad guy" that is talked about in almost every chat. He is not a sith or a jedi traitor. He does wield at LEAST 2 lightsabers at the same time in combat. He has never been seen before (but keep your eyes peeled to the Cartoon Network). He is going to be cool as all heck, BUT he won't steal any thunder from when you see mechanical Darth Vader for the first time.

Watto's Junk Yard / Letterman to be a Dad
« on: September 12, 2003, 03:34 PM »
David Letterman is going to become a father at the ripe old age of 56...

Wasn't Tony Randall 80 something when he had his last child?

Hugh Hefner also became a dad at an older age...

Good Luck Dave :-\

Watto's Junk Yard / So I Drove by The Ranch...
« on: September 10, 2003, 09:28 PM »
I was in California the past few days for business and I finished early yesterday and couldn't get a flight out until today.  So I had a 1/2 day to kill.

I was in Sacramento and could have went east to Reno or Tahoe or went West to San Francisco...I chose west only because the last time I was in SF we didn't really get a chance to get a nice look of the Golden Gate Bridge because of heavy fog.  So I drove west and decided to cut across the top of the bay and wound up in Marin County.

Being the Ultimate Fanboy I knew I was close to the Motherland and started heading south on Hwy 101.  Seeing a sign for Lucas Valley Road peaked my interest and I got off and guessed and went west.  Good choice, but totally lucky I just found out.

About 5 miles up this windy two lane road is the gates to the ranch complete with gate, security etc.  I stopped and looked and thought of ways I could hop the fence and make a mad dash for the Archives to try and seek out the Hoth Han Brown Coat.  But my rational side reminded me that there are such things as tresspassing, jail and the like so I let it be and took a mental picture and said that had to be the spot.

Doing a little research I found out Lucas Valley Road has no relation to the man himself, he just so happens to live on said road.  There was also a huge boulder on the North Side of the road which made my Google search a little easier to find out if I was anywhere near close...turns out I was!

http://www.ptreyeslight.com/stories/oct24/lucas.html

The rest of the mini-road trip was pretty cool, I saw some awesome Redwood Forests...I mean awesome and the coastland of NoCal is truly awesome.  And when I finally got to the Golden Gate...the fog was so thick you couldn't see more than 10 feet above the car.

I love that town, one of the favorite places I have ever been

So...I know where you live George Lucas, better make a good movie!

Watto's Junk Yard / General Malaise
« on: September 5, 2003, 11:28 AM »
I've been noticing a sharp drop off in all things Star Wars not just here but pretty much all around the net.  What do think is going on?  Why is this happening...

To many years of Collecting
People Fed up with Distribution Problems
We know everything about everyone
Post Episode II Let Down
Action Features and Extreme Poses
Boredom
The Economy (Which I think has a bigger impact than people realize)
Other Toy Lines
Other Things in Life
School Started

Probably a mix of everything...I remember being in a lull in 1999-2000 as well and not super excited about SW again until 2001, maybe things will change...

And this sorta carries over here at Watto's and other General Discussion Boards since general lack of excitement filters over to other spots in the Star Wars Message Board world

The Original Trilogy / Most Dated Part of the OT
« on: August 28, 2003, 04:47 PM »
Yoda as a muppet?
Shaggy Hairstyles (although this is back "in" now)
Props?

I say it is this room...

It looks horrible, the hokey blinky lights, the bad old screens.  Although by 70's standards that is the way a ton of control rooms look like in old plants.

I usually think these lists are total BS, but this one about takes the cake.

The Prequel Trilogy / The Duel
« on: August 28, 2003, 09:19 AM »
The set diaries the last two days have both dealt with the thing I have wanted to see ever since I first saw Star Wars, the first Darth Vader/Obi-Wan fight.

Sounds like a bunch of green screen work
Sounds like lava will be invloved
Sounds like it will be windy

Care to speculate as to why this happens...where it takes place and how Obi-Wan gets the upper hand?

Watto's Junk Yard / Last Time You Threw Up
« on: August 28, 2003, 09:05 AM »
Sick or Drinking or just grossed out, when was the last time you woofed your cookies?

For me it was about a year ago on a fishing trip.  Since it was raining pretty heavily me and my buddy decided to play cribbage instead in the comfort of the cabin.  To make it interesting the winner had to take a pull of Sour Apple Pucker and the loser had to take a shot of some nasty whiskey.  Lose/lose my friends.  The next morning after far too many games of cribbage saw me tossing chunks all over the place.  Not good

The last time I was sick and did so was in 1999 right before Y2K.  I was in Arizona for my job, I woke up in the middle of the night, walked in the bathroom and bowed to the porcelain god.  I had a pounding headache at the time as well, not sure if it was a touch of heat sickness, food poisoning or what but it was bad.

Watto's Junk Yard / Gas Prices
« on: August 27, 2003, 11:11 PM »
Any one fell like we are getting the shaft here...

They blame the rising costs on

#1 The Blackout
#2 Pipeline Rupture in Phoenix
#3 Traditional Labor Day Increase

I can stomach #3 as a reason, #1 and #2 are absolute bull****.  I realize refineries did shut down.  I also know that once they go down they just don't start up again.  It takes a long time to bring the towers back up to temperature where they can start cracking crude...

But I also know gas is stored in huge ass tanks all across the country, the dip in production for two or three days did not effect the supply to the point where there was a shortage.  Other non east coast refineries I am almost postive have not been operating at 100%...why this means everywhere in the country has to take a 10% price hike is ludicrous.  There is excess crude around, the blackout did not drop supplies to zero

Why a pipeline burst in Phoenix causes the same thing, again baffles me.  This should effect Phoenix (and it did) and parts of the west coast.  Here the gas did run out so they do have to get existing supplies down to as low as they can go.

And I concede gas prices will go up in the summer especially over busy holiday weekends, which is actually my biggest gripe about the whole system

Oil companies own everything (besides foreign drilling operations) from the derricks to the pumps to the pipeline and tankers and rail cars to the refineries to the gas stations themselves.  Where is there any control over the industry.

Gas station owners make pennies per gallon profit, most of it is tax the rest is the price of gas which is set by a collection of suppliers much like OPEC does with crude.  They set the supply, they set the price, they make the profits.  They also are able to sell many of the chemical building blocks they recover from the oil to the chemical makers around the country and world.  So while we get oil from overseas we sell back the refined products overseas and domestically.

The whole system stinks...all utilities in general stink.  You are at the mercy of a corporate America (and for that matter anylysts in Wall Street) dictating what prices will be and to maximize their profits they will gouge you every damn chance they get.

Nothing in my entire life sickened me more (from what I have witnessed personally) than the night of September 11 when I drove around the city and saw gas prices of $4 a gallon and people lined up to get gas.  It was amazing...that moment right there made me question the whole industry I am inately involved with and I have thought about the whole thing since that day.

Fuel Cells are the answer to all of the problems, but people have no idea how much money that is going to cost us all.  The whole infrastructure change is mindboggling.  The sad thing I forsee is that Mobil, Exxon and BP will probably be at the forefront of this technology as well, limiting and hindering the implimentation every single damn chance they get
