Title: Chronicles of Narnia toys and collectibles
Post by: Nathan on May 12, 2005, 06:06 PM
Is anyone else planning on collecting this line that accompanies the upcoming movies?

Hasbro is making various toys including

5" scale Basic Action Figures (Approximate retail price: $6.99)

Deluxe Action Figures ($14.99)

Basic Battle Scale figures ($6.99) (apparently something like the Armies of Middle-Earth series)

Deluxe Battle Scale figures ($14.99)

They certainly look cool Nathan.  While I enjoyed the books, and will greatly enjoy the movie(s), I'm sure, I'm going to have to refrain from the actual toy line.  I've already got more than I can handle on my plate as it is with just collecting all the Star Wars stuff, so I dare not start meddling in any other lines.

It pains me, as I'd love to delve into these, but as with the Muppet and LOTR lines, I'm just going to keep a safe distance, admire from afar, and not get involved.  Better for my marriage that way...  ;)

But I do enjoy seeing the new stuff though.  Looks cool, and makes me very excited for the movie to come out.  What's the date on that again?

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be released December 9, 2005. If/when the others are made, I imagine they'll be spaced a year or two apart.

Not a big fan of their choice of scale :-\  I'd much rather they went the 6" route

I was hoping they'd go 3.75", so my Narnians could mingle with all my SW characters.

Looks like there is a few more pictures up of these toys, with the listings over at Entertainment Earth (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?theme=CHRONICLES+OF+NARNIA).  Here's a pic of the first wave of basic figures:

Hey all,

I guess these are hitting now because I saw a bunch of them at TRU today. I didn't realize they're out already.

They looked quite cool! Unfortunately, at the moment I don't have enough $$$ to get any yet. :'(

TheGD.com (http://www.thegd.com/Toys/narnia.asp) has some pics up of the first wave of the 5" figures from Chronicles of Narnia.  Unfortunately, they don't look too great really.  Articulation is next to none from the looks of things, and the paint apps don't look like anything to write home about either.  Who knows, maybe they will get better.  Just as well I guess, not like I need another line to tempt me to collect anyways.  I haven't seen this scale here yet, but our local TRU had the smaller scale stuff a week or two back.  Pics of wave 1 at the linky, if interested.

These have been out at TRU for a little over a week now, I just kept forgetting to post about them.  I was never really that interested in them and having seen them in person, that feeling is reinforced.  Your overall impression of them is pretty accurate Brian.

These do look very cool, as does the movie. I'll probably get a few.

Yep, saw them 2 weeks ago and they are an easy pass. No articulation, poor paint jobs. They remind me of some of the toys I played with in the 70's, almost like Hasbro wanted a retro view to them. Bad product and they offer no temptation.

According to the info and pics found HERE (http://www.narnianotes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=273#post273), there seems to be another (better) line of Narnia figures...apparently available at Disney stores.  This is the first I've heard of this, but from the pics it looks like they fit in very well with Toy Biz's LOTR line (there are some comparison pics available).  Interesting...more pics at the linky.

EDIT:  Looks like carded pics (http://www.lordoftheringsguide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18466&highlight=narnia) are available in this thread as well.  Sounds like they run about $9.50 each at Disney stores.

Amazing stuff, to say the least.  Looks like a great source for custom fodder.

Just remember they are the wrong scale, although that doesn't matter so much for the creatures.

I bought one of the 5" scale minotaurs and he completely towers over the SW 3.75" for an even awesomer effect. Then I got one of the "battle packs" with a minotaur and some sort of pigman that end up being about Jawa size. So all three are well within the scale reference for other GFFA aliens.

I'm sure with some imagination you could also pull off some nine-foot humanoid customs.

Chewie and I are talking about the New 3 3/4 line coming out for the new movie this year. check out action-figure.com for the details.  I think it is playalone that has the licence now.

Gotcha ... I looked at the pics but just assumed they were in the same scale as the previous line. Color me a lot more excited now.

I'm really interested in that castle mostly.... could it maybe be tweaked a bit for a Rhen Var diorama?

I Like the Knights and Minators and the Castle too.

Pretty nifty stuff...

I can't tell what is and isn't 3-3/4" scale, but looks like the above items are... I'm thinking that castle would make for a good custom Rhen Var set.

^ Good thinking Chew. I think it could also be a decent Galidraan Castle (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galidraan) if you are into the bounty hunter stuff.

Or even, I suppose, Tir Asleen (http://www.starwars.com/databank/updates/401/location/tirasleen) from Willow if you wanted to get even further afield.

Those are some really good ideas Nathan...

Also, I saw these figures at TRU yesterday.  Pretty nifty but I didn't get any.  Not sure if they have as much customizing potential as I originally thought...

They didn't have the castle on the shelf yet... I probably would have bought one if they did.

Yep - seen them at two TRU stores now.   :)

I guess they had put them out too early, and put all their Narnia stuff in the stockroom for a while because both TRU stores in my area removed these for about two weeks, but I saw them back on the sales floor today.

Has anyone seen the castle playset from this line in stores yet?

Not yet Chewie
I just found them at TRU and not much at that was able to pick up a few figures and deluxe sets but no playset or bigger boxed items
will keep looking
I want the castle too.

Thanks... I also looked on ebay last week and didn't see them yet, so I guess they haven't been released (and I hope they don't cancel it).

I did see the catapult with soldier at TRU the other day - not bad for $19.99.

The creature figures from this line are really nice looking.  There are a couple I'm tempted to pick up but haven't yet.  Decent prices as well.

Haven't seen the castle.

Saw the castle, latest wave of figs, and deluxe figs at TRU today.  They appear to be close to SW scale, and I almost bought the man/goat thingie for a custom jedi, but chickened out at the last minute.
