$10.00 each? Count me in, I can use extras of a lot of these for customizing fodder... look it's a VOTC 3PO in the Jedi set... and I love that Obi Wan being repacked!
:)
-
Don't get too excited. The prices aren't confirmed. I was just predicting what we'd see.
-
Nice call on the 3 packs, and not too bad of choices overall. I don't know if I'll pick them up or not, since I already have those figures, but they are a nice exclusive. I just think of collectors or kids who don't have these, and assuming they are priced at $10, its a pretty good deal for some decent figures. When parents see these alongside VTSC figures, they probably figure "well, I get 3 or 4 figures for the price of this one". Anyways, some of those figures aren't too bad of choices, but I still cringe when I see that Emperor and his giant hoody :).

Haven't all of the other Wal-Mart DVD three-packs been $10? No reason for that to change now.
(Two Lukes, and no Leia? Strange.)
-
Hmmm.... 3 more boxes of repacked figures?
Good news for those who like cheap figures, bad news for the completists out there.
(Two Lukes, and no Leia? Strange.)
Kinda funny that while the figures are slightly re-organized in the boxes, the figure selection is basically the same as the last time (2004).
- 1/2 the figures in these sets (ANH Luke, Bespin Han, CT Stormie, Chewie, Emperor) are the same versions used in the WM 3-packs the last time they did this for an OT DVD release.
The other half are the same characters, but different versions:
- Vader - 25th Anniversary instead of PotJ
- Ben - 25th Anniversary instead of PotJ
- R2 - 2004 Saga instead of PotF2
- 3PO - 2004 VOTC instead of PotF2
The last time through (2004), Leia was in the ESB pack. If I had to take a guess, I'd say they swapped her for Jedi Luke since they were already using that mold for the upcoming "Carkoon Battle Pack that they showed off at Toy Fair this year... :P
-
You're right, but things have changed.
We're paying $7 for basic figures - I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if these packs were $12.99-$14.99.
-
Well, the VSTC figures are still $10.00 at Walmart, while the basic figure shot up in price. I think if these are Walmart exclusives we'll still see the $10.00 price.
I wish they had substituted the ANH Luke with the POTF2 Commtech Leia, that would have been a nice nod to people who never could find one.
And I like the ROTJ set the most, even though the Emperor is pretty bad. But it's easy to switch his cape/hood with the ROTS Emperor Palpatine, which I know a lot of us have extras of because of the Skirmash in the Senate set. Then he looks cool.
:)
-
I think I'll get two of the Jedi pack, since I don't have a loose VOTC 3PO.
-
Hasbro is trying to unload their surplus of Emperor's it looks like. But actually those are some choices this time around IMO. I am tempted to get the ESB set for another Han and stormtrooper. Of course they will probably turn right around and offer an awesome SA Han Bespin version. Anyway they are decent for the price...if that stays at $10.
-
I only picked up the ESB set the last time around, because its my favorite of the Saga and it had Han and Chewie in it. I'm half tempted to get that one again, but we'll see what else is out at the time. I don't necessarily need more of those figures though. I might grab the ROTJ one though, because I've always sort of wanted to get an extra Jedi Luke, plus there would be an extra VOTC 3PO as well. That R2 isn't too bad either. We'll see I guess.
-
If these are $10... count me in on at least one of them. I don't own any of the original versions of these figures... not wild about Vader, Palpatine, C3PO, or R2D2; I find it funny that they're repacking 3PO in such a cheap set, considering the exact same figure with the exact same complete-lack-of-coolness-or-accessories was pushed out for $10 originally.
But it couldn't hurt to own another Vader really, and Palpatine has potential if the hood could be fixed (...or removed along with the head, since I think I might have a spare POTF2 Palpatine head in a few weeks), and I could even find something to do with R2 and 3PO. And I can't frown at another Falcon Mechanic Chewie, either, plus he's got that groovy- even if it is assembled backwards- bowcaster.
But both of those Lukes- I like the look of that lightsaber Commtech Luke has- Han, the stormtrooper, and Obi Wan are all on my "want and don't have" list. So if they hang around I might buy all three one-by-one; I'll probably snap up the ESB set first if I have a choice.
-
The ROTJ pack is kinda screwing the people who paid $10 for the VOTC 3P0 when for $10 they can get that and three other figures...

I would think they are throwing the 3PO in as a bonus for the people who missed it and the fact that it is the worst 3PO made to date.
-
I've been called crazy many times and will probably be called that again (or worse) for saying this, but that 3PO is my second favorite one ever made, behind only the ROTS version.
:)
-
SW and ESB looks great, but I'm not sure about ROTJ. I mean how many times are we going to see the Emperor repack?
-

It is an okay C-3PO. The problem with it was that all the other VOTC's had quite a bit of articulation. Supposedly that was one of Hasbro's big reasons for pushing the price up on those. That and the packaging. Plus, most collectors have wanted a 3PO with bendeable knees. It was disapointing to pay $10 for that version. I am not really complaining though because I like the cardback.
-
I'm kind of amazed, yet not to surprised that these are similar to the previous OT DVD 3-pack release. A waste, but I'll still pick 'em up. The great thing is, there doesn't seem to be one particular pack that seems more desirable than the other.
-
Agreed. All 3 are equally ******. I did not get the previous ones and I am not getting these. So more for the masses.
-

Not to pick nits but Chewy's Bowcaster is assembled wrong. I'm a stickler for details.
-
Would it have been so difficult to pack in the VOTC Stormie? We shouldn't ever have to see any new product with the commtech or older Stormie.
-
I agree, it is high time we start seeing the VOTC Stormie get put out there in some way. Its like salt in the wound when we see other VOTCs like R2 and 3PO re-used in various spots in the line as well now. It still baffles me that we rarely even see Stormtroopers on the pegs at all, specifically in the basic line. Whatever sculpt it is, VOTC or commtech, it just isn't a figure that is put out very often - and that seems silly to me.
-
Stormtroopers are dull... I'd rather make a rainbow out of all my cool colored Clones!
-
The ROTJ set is tempting for that Luke, R2, and 3PO--time to upgrade from my POTF2 versions of said figures. A definite pass on the other two, though.
-
Only want ESB & ROTJ.ANH set sucks.
-
The more I think about it, the more I like the ESB set. Chewie's bowcaster might be fixable but even if it's not it's still nice to have, and I wanted one of the TSC repaints all along but couldn't justify paying $6 for the thing. But with two other figures I've really wanted and don't have, the whole thing is worthwhile.
I'd love to see the VOTC Stormtrooper out there again in any form, but I can totally see why they wouldn't be here; where they should be is a simple repack in the basic line, released in droves. These sets are predisposed to average-and-worse figures- remember the madness of those ROTS sets, especially the "Jedi Heroes"!- so I can hardly expect anything SA to show up here.
The ANH set really appeals to me too- I need at least one Commtech Luke, and an Obi Wan with the hood up another Obi Wan besides the POTF2, period. Vader isn't great, but he's useable.
That ROTJ set though... I've needed one of those Lukes for a while and the other stuff is essentially what I'd call "swag," which is to say moderately decent stuff I could stick somewhere or customize.
Argh, I sadly want all three sets, but I probably won't buy them all unless they hang around for a while. If I see an ESB set I'm grabbing it though.
-
One can only assume that we have not seen the VOTC Stormie in situations like this because of cost reasons.
I would imagine that he is more expensive to use than the Commtech version because of the higher piece count.
That and the collector uproar would be quite high if they sold us a three pack of figures for the same price we paid for the said figure originally.
-
Ok... I guess if the money situation is ok at that time, and I doubt it will be, I will try and get the following of these.
ANH - two, mainly for the Obi Wan, which I really like for custom fodder
ESB - one or none, I really don't need these figures
ROTJ - three or four sets, all openers, all of those figures can be good custom fodder
:)
-
Actually I thought of something else that I think they should have done.
Since they are throwing in an R2D2 in ROTJ set, how hard would it have been to add a Jawa to the ANH set and a Yoda to the ESB set?
Or would that set a precedent that Hasbro wants to avoid?
:)
-

Blasphemy!
-
Um, if we're getting the original movies, why is the first box still marked Episode IV, A New Hope?
Isn't the whole point of this exercise to get us to buy the original - OT on DVD? I know the remasters are coming with it, but shouldn't it just be called Star Wars?

Been following the DVD thread at all?
They're selling the 2004 versions. The original versions are just "bonus features."
It's Lucas' little childish way of getting around the whole "the originals are dead to me" thing.
-
Oh.
Wasn't following the DVD thread I'm afraid, so I'd deluded myself into thinking this was a release of the originals, not a re-release of the 2004s with bonus stuff ::) Childish indeed.
-
Incidentally, are these supposed to hit at around the same time as the new DVDs? If so, I've been keeping up with the thread but haven't heard any dates- does anyone know when that might be?
I know not many are excited about these sets, but that just makes me slightly more hopeful I'll find them :) I really could use all of these figures in one way or another, and $10 wouldn't be bad for three, much less four, figures, especially ones I want.
In any case, since these are low-interest, old stuff, and not part of the main line, will they still be reported on JD when they hit stores or anything? Or maybe on the forums rather than the main page news?
-
These always come out the day of a DVD release (if not a few days earlier in some cases) and sometimes they can be a real bitch to track down at certain WM's.

You can count on it. :)

Just a reminder that these Box Sets are rumored to be available next week at Wal-Mart, priced around $10 each...

for 10.00, I think I need to try to grab a couple just for X-mas gifts.
-
Now that Luke is available in the Sarlacc BP & there's a rumored VTSC Bespin Han next year, I'll pass.
-
I'm going to get one of the ROTJ sets, and customize the Emperor into another UGP senator. I still need a VOTC C-3PO.
-
I couldn't any more uninterested in these. Sadly, if I see 'em, I'll probably pick them up. :(
-
Too bad the Stormie is Commtech. It would be worth it if it was VOTC. But then Id have a ****load of Bespin Hans and Chewies.
-
These are great for kids - my son is missing a lot of the main characters so I might pick a couple up.
-
Anyone seen these yet?
-
I expected to see these today, but I have a feeling they're packed with the DVD's in a display.
-
I saw these today. No where near the toy or movie section. They were on a center island display near the garden center ??? Left them all for some other sap. The only differece I could see was that Palpatine's face was a different color.
-
I've yet to hit a WM today, and I wasn't planning on picking these up, but gotta love the packaging + the price. Any other saps out there having luck finding these?
-
I have not seen any and I am only trying to nail the ESB pack :(
-
Checked out WM yesterday and they were in the front of the store on a display stand. (They will most likely NOT be in the toy or movie section at all) Had to pick one of each up. Cool packaging and at $9.99 each, why not?
-
My local WM is remodeling, so it took me some time to find these, but I did. They still had pleanty two hours after opening.
-
Wow, what a great deal the ROTJ set was. I bought it for the Jedi Luke and gave the other three figures to junior.
Four decent figures for ten bucks isn't too shabby.
-
If R2 had the bar thing I would of got it.
