http://sideshow.directtrack.com/z/45691/CD996/
wonder if it looks like the Medicom one, only at Sideshow's prices...
-
This makes no sense whatsoever.
Why do a high detailed figure of a character that is already done to perfection - via Medicom!
???
-
probly cause not everyone can afford $200 or thereabouts for a Japanese figure...not to mention the cost of shipping...I could be wrong about it tho, but I think the Sideshow one will be just as good <what? i can hope can't i? I just hope they're available up here in Hoth Central>
-
Looks like the first 12" figure will be this (http://sideshow.directtrack.com/z/45691/CD996/).
-
Doesn't it look like his hand from the 18" ANH Luke they made?? It looks like it doesn't move. I guess we'll have to wait and see but why the contest if this is the first one? And why ROTJ Luke???
-
I'd love to see a 12" stormtrooper, clonetrooper, Vader and Fett. A nice ANH Han Solo would be cool too.
-
I know it's just a teaser image, but it's making me think about getting back into the 12" line again.
-
If they are less than $50 retail and somewhat limited, I think I'll bite.
I laugh everytime I get out my Hasbro 12" figures - they are quite lame minus the few exceptions (Deluxe Jango and Count Dooku come to mind).
The 12" stormie is by far the worst - he needs to go on a diet.
11/11/05 - Okay, I'm ready to see pictures!
-
Jedi Luke goes up for preorder at noon Pacific Time! This will be the Exclusive Edition only available from SideshowCollectibles.com (http://sideshow.directtrack.com/z/12943/CD996). I'm very eager to see pictures, especially the sculpt for his face.
-
Sideshow usually has alternate versions of their releases… if they offer it for Jedi Luke, how so you think it would be different?
-
Exclusive version will include the cloak, regular version will not.
-
I'll guess that the exclusive Sideshow version will include a bone and rock for "Rancor Battling" action!
-
Good one Jeff!
So who's on board with this line? Is everyone waiting for images before they make a decision?
-
Is everyone waiting for images before they make a decision?
I'm waiting until I see it. I am hesitent to get back into the 12" stuff (having abandoned it a long time ago), but the Sideshow stuff is amazing.
A friend of mine has the 12" Highlander figures (Connor and Duncan McLeod) that Sideshow did and they are amazing likenesses, amazing articulation, amazing accessories.
I could totally find myself sucked into buying some of these depending on who they make and how often they release them...
-
It's up:

"SIDESHOW EXCLUSIVE EDITION
The Sideshow Exclusive version of the 12-inch Jedi Luke Skywalker figure includes an additional accessory available nowhere else, the skiff guard blaster!"
I was expecting a little more for the exclusive, but it's a cool idea nonetheless.
His likeness is amazing!

-
I don't care for the face. :(
-

Good call Jeff! The cool thing is the bone will be included with both versions.

Great articulation and poseability:

-
It's nice, and the face sculpt is pretty darn close. I can only imagine how difficult it is to get Hamill's face perfect.
I think I'm going to wait and take my chances when the figure hits the online merchants. I may be able to get it cheaper.
Skiff guard gun is not worth the extra $$ IMO.
I'm a little disappointed with the exclusive aspect - but it's a nice figure for $50, no?
-
I think I'm going to wait and take my chances when the figure hits the online merchants. I may be able to get it cheaper.
Me too. If I decide to get it, I'll look for a better price. How soon after the exclusive version do they usually go on sale at other dealers?
-
Ordered. ;D
-
I never was a big 12" figure collector (maybe 5 or 6 total), but I've been curious ever since I heard Sideshow got the license. I personally think this Luke looks pretty amazing, and although I'll wait for now, I'm halfway tempted to start collecting some 12" here and there as well. That is, until I mention it to the wifey :P. This first figure (Luke) does look pretty great though.
-

I'm right in about the same position as you, Jeff. I'm looking at the pictures right now, and though he looks really good, I have to seriously consider whether I should get into another line or not.
I'm leaning towards at least doing the preorder just in case I decide later on to get in, and have to pay secondary market prices on the first figure in the line.
-
Excuse me for a probably stupid question, but is this "exclusive order" the only way to get this Jedi Luke figure? For example, will it be available elsewhere later on without the "exclusive skiff blaster"? I guess I'm not overly familiar with Sideshow's products other than some pictures I've looked at online, and I didn't know if that was the only way to get a hold of figures from this line.
Also, has anyone read/seen anywhere how many figures would be released a year in this line? Just curious how expensive it would get if I dared start in on another line ;). If I can somehow talk the Mrs. into it, I think I'll have to stick to OT here as well, just to keep things in check, depending on releases.
-
I'm not excited about their focus for the line. It sounds like they are going to start off with Jedi only.
I want bad guys!! ;)
I'd love to see a Shock Trooper, Boba Fett and a Stormie from these guys...the Jedi Luke is nice, but doesn't kick ass like a Fett would....
-
I've only had experience with the 1/4 scale statues from them, but generally they show up on the Sideshow site first in the exclusive form right alongside a standard release, the exclusive version is only available through the site and it goes quicker than the standard version. In the 1/4 line, I've been careful to order the exclusive version right away, since the windows are so short. However...
If I recall correctly, on the first 1/4 scale figure, they used preorder response to gauge the production run. This looks like what might be going on with the 12" line as well.
If you just want to order one without the gun you could just wait until they show up at other retailers.
-
Sold Out.
-
I think it's a pretty darn good likeness. I haven't really taken the time to get to know Sideshow's stuff. I'm really hoping they pump out some good stuff with this 12" line. One thing I don't like though, what is this about an "exclusive" you can only get certain accessories with? Is this typical of Sideshow? I don't like that one bit. Needless to say I was too late to get an order in for the exclusive one so I ended up just putting myself on the waiting list for it. I don't know if I'm getting into this line or not just yet but I put an order in anyway so I don't end up regretting it later.
-
It's a good likeness, but the expression looks lifeless. I'm disappointed by that. :( Something about the outfit looks kind of pansy too.
-
I have no problems with how it looks at all. I am put off by the fact that they made an "exclusive" version. I mean come on. You spend $50 for either version but one does not include a gun? I get tired of that crap anymore with Star Wars stuff. Although I am not in the best mood right now so that could be a part of it. Also it sucks that you have to be sitting at your computer the moment this stuff is available or you have no chance of getting the damn thing. Sorry it's just annoying as hell to me sometimes.
Anyway, the figure looks fantastic. I am definately looking forward to more of these. Not sure if I will scrape up the cash for them or not but would love to.
-

Here here! I was kind of shocked to see the exclusive one sell out in a day. Oh well. It'll make it that much easier to not get into the line.
-
Damn. What did they make, 50 of the Sideshow Exclusive versions? How long was it available for? 3 hours? Gimme a break.
-
There were 1250 exclusive ones. Welcome to the world of Sideshow.
-
Ouch. That was fast. Not really fair to those who collect but can't access a computer during the course of the day, is it?
-
Ouch. That was fast. Not really fair to those who collect but can't access a computer during the course of the day, is it?
Yeah, exactly. What was I supposed to do. Take the day off and sit here? LOL! Heck I did not even know they were going to have an exclusive version. Granted that's kind of my fault for not reading more closely....I guess? Even so didn't they only give about a 2 days notice that it was even up for order on Friday?
Again I am not in the best mood tonight. I know it's only a gun that would be missing but for crying out loud why even make it an "exclusive" without a gun? What's the point? I don't get it. I am sorry but for some reason that really bugs the hell out of me.
Again the figure looks fantastic and worth every cent of the $50. But I just shake my head at that.
-
What was I supposed to do. Take the day off and sit here?
I guess we were... or at the very least I'm guessing that some people did. I want it, but now I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. Put my name on the list for the exclusive verison (which you now have to give your credit card info for?) and then order the regular version, and then probably get stuck with two? Or just put my name on the want list for the exclusive version, and not order the regular version, watch the regular version sell out and then not get an exclusive one, and get ****** double? And then get ****** a third time by having to go to ebay and get one? Man what a joke. Are you sure Gentle Giant doesn't have a hand in this? It sure sounds like their M.O.
-
I got the exclusive one. Had my girlfriend order it from work for me ;D
-
I could live without a stupid gun. Either they need to make more of the exclusive versions or just drop the idea altogether. The last thing the world needs is more pissed-off Star Wars fans, and this is the perfect thing to piss 'em off.
Now if I could find a way to afford each one of these...
-
Is it just me, or is the exclusive gun waaaayyyy too tiny? Looks like a pea-shooter.
-
Well, I don't own any Sideshow items and decided against ordering the exclusive version since I have the Medicom version of Luke anyways. I do like it, but I am assuming I might be able to pick up the regular version a bit cheaper somewhere else (not sure where but someone mentioned that in this thread so I gues BBTS might carry it??).
I'm a little on the fence about his facial expression though. It looks ok for the scene with the Emperor and Vader but it still is a little "babyish" to me. I think it's the lips but I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is. The extra hands are very cool and, if I do buy it, I will display the blaster burn one.
-
I absolutely LOVE the fact that today at around 3:30pm I got an email from Sideshow telling me that I can be one of the first to pre-order the new exclusive version of the 12" Luke. How ******* stupid can these people be? Don't they check out their own website before sending these mass email newsletters out?
-
I got the same e-mail, late last night. Pretty piss poor timing, it's like rubbing salt in the wound for those that wanted it.
-
The same thing happens with SWS.com. I got an e-mail the day after the Covert Ops Trooper went on sale, and were already sold out ::). Luckily I ordered it the day they went up for preorder.
-
Is everybody really so caught up in ordering this thing that no one wants to talk about the actual figure? What do you think?
-
I think the face is off. It seems that Mark Hamill's face has always been difficult to capture, no matter what scale.
I love that he comes with extra hands and multiple accessories. The lightsaber hilt looks amazing.
I'd like to see side by side shots of this and the amazing Japanize one (midi-com?) released a while back to compare quality.
-
I was comparing the pictures of the Sideshow Luke to my Medicom Luke and they are too similar for me to get the Sideshow one.
-
So how many people here are going for the Sideshow line, or at least with this Luke in particular? Like I mentioned, I've never really been much of a 12" figure collector, mainly because I didn't like much of what Hasbro offered overall. This first Luke looks pretty great to me. Although the face is a bit off, I still think it looks pretty good, and as a figure overall is very well done. Looking at the pics of Jedi Luke is tempting me to get into the 12" line, at least in a limited fashion. I'd probably just stick to my favorites, and likely with the OT characters for the most part, but it might be neat to have a few of these if they will be this well done. It also depends how many figures we'd see per year, to see what the budget would allow. Anyways, is there anyone jumping into this line, or maybe visiting/re-visiting the 12" line for the first time in awhile?
-

My post got split out of this topic, but I have been upgrading the hasbro 12" figures for a month and a half and I was just about to do a Luke Jedi Knight version. Luckily, I held off and now Sideshow released their own version. I will definitely pick this guy up, although I have held off on pre-ordering him so far because I want to see how much he is on other sites and at my local comic shop.
I did pick up a loose 12" Endor Luke (with hat and poncho) on eBay so I can swap the Endor accessories onto Sideshow's Luke ;)
Hopefully my other upgrades won't be too obsolete...

It looks like a great likeness of Hamill to me, but the expression seems lifeless. The Medicom outfit looks better, but I think the face stinks. I hope SS improves this thing before it goes into production, because I'd like to get it.

AFX has Luke up for preorder at $49.99 (http://www.shopafx.com/stwaacfijelu.html). No different than direct from Sideshow. :-\
-
$42.00 (http://store.darkshadowcollectibles.com/005400.html)
-
His expression looks like he did when Yoda died :'(
Mark Hamill didn't look consistant throughout the Trilogy either so I'm not all that concerned with how dead-on the likeness is.
-
I think they need to make his eyes a little darker and close his mouth, and he'd be bang on.
-
Now that i see that comparison pic, i think the Sideshow Luke looks much better than the Medicom one. The Medicom one doesnt look like Hamil to me and i think the hair is all wrong. I actually like the Sideshow one better, glad i got the limited one. ;D
-
Anyone else preordering this figure? I got to thinking about it yesterday again, and thought I should maybe go ahead and preorder one just in case, and if I changed my mind I could just cancel it. When I visited Sideshow's site, it looks like the "regular" version is sold out now...then I headed to BigBadToyStore, which was also presold out. Looks like this is getting grabbed up quickly. Where is everyone ordering this from (if you are)?
-
$42.00 (http://store.darkshadowcollectibles.com/005400.html)
Wish I'd ordered from them...
-
Just got an e-mail tonight stating that my waiting list order for the exclusive Jedi Luke was bumped up and will be changed to an official order tomorrow for processing. Anyone else get an e-mail like this? Sounds like these may ship pretty soon here.
-
Have any of you guys ordered with AFX? I am waitlisted for Luke (didn't decide I wanted him until I got the Kit Fisto pre-order) so I'm wondering how reliable AFX would be on these things. Is it just a "chance" at one, or does ordering it pretty much guarantee me one?
Do they take money now, or when it's in?
-
Here's Luke in his packaged form (click on the thumbnails):
(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox1tn.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox1.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox2tn.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox2.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox3tn.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/SSC12inchLukeJediBox3.jpg)
There's some interesting info in their blog about the production of the packaging (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=694) as well.
Even more interesting is the fact that the packaging is collector friendly (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=695)! No twist ties, but rather a double clamshell for easy removal. Pretty slick.
-
Indeed Jess, the more I look at this the more I want to order... I wish I had the $$$ to get into this series, much less the space. These look really nice packaged and loose even to a guy like me that opens damn near everything.
-
I hate the fact I paid so much for the Medicom Luke and had so much trouble with it and this is 1/4 the price and just as nice. I'm stuck with my Medicom one so I won't be getting this but it sure looks good. I also love the packaging. Hasbro's twisty ties were always a nightmare (Collector Series Queen Amidala had more twisty ties than any other item I have ever opened!!).
-

I thought the same thing, this packaging looks really nice. I'm a collector that opens just about everything I have as well, but something like this would be neat in case you ever wanted to put it back in the packaging (for display, storage, moving or whatever). Plus, the elaborate packaging with pics and all that is pretty neat too. I missed out on the order for this Luke, and I'm sort of regretting it at this point. I kind of like to see a company go all out with a Star Wars line like this. The figure has all the bells and whistles, is packed with accessories, and now has a real nice (and collector friendly) box to bring it all to you. Part of me wouldn't mind seeing the basic figure line go somewhat this route eventually (like maybe when the retail side might be drying up), in the aspect where we get nice VOTC-styled figures, with lots and lots of accessories, and a nice, collector friendly package that allows you to have your figure loose, or carded, and a little bit more limited number of figures for the year so that everyone could afford them. Instead of having 60-70 figures in a year (over half of which are usually rehashes) having a much more manageble number.
-
So does anyone have any recommendations on where to get these things? I'm still waitlisted on Luke, but I want one. I'm looking for a site that you've shopped with before and can vouch for.
-
These are the only two that I could find that still have some of the 12" left.
Bid Bad Toy Store (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=619) only has Kit Fisto now.
Entertainment Earth (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?spotlight=&collect=&theme=STAR+WARS&company=&rpp=20&filter=0&premium=0&nm=0&coming=&clearance=0&justone=0&SearchOrder=thm&searchfield=sideshow&pref=0&pg=0&orsearch=0&wrid=0&tree=0&sort=0&new=0) has Obi-Wan and Kit Fisto
AFX (http://www.shopafx.com/stwa12acfi.html) has all four but it's been a while since I have ordered anything from them - no troubles though
-
Yeah, Luke and Anakin seem to be really hard to get. I really wish I would have ordered Anakin. Luke, I can make do with the Hasbro attempts I suppose even though SS looks much better. Sigh. If only I was made of money :)
-
There's no way AFX will receive enough Lukes to fill everone's order.
Everyone else on the web has been pre-sold out of the Luke for months!
He's the only I've missed out on...
-
He's the only I've missed out on...
You and me both. I'll forever wish I ordered it just because it's the only one that I won't have in the Sideshow collection. Why I didn't learn from making this mistake with Master Replica, I'll never know :'( :'(
-
He's the only I've missed out on...
Ditto. But I'm quite sure we'll see another Luke down the road with a better face sculpt than the Jedi one. I just don't like it, so I don't feel bad not ordering it.
-
I did not get it because I have 2 versions of Luke in his Jedi garb from Hasbro. But boy that SS version looks nice.
-
Just recieved this email from SSC:
"Dear Valued Collector,

Looks like Luke will be shipping within the next month or so. ;D
-
Yep, got my notice too.. I can't wait to see it in up close!
-
That's great news guys. 8)
On the other hand, call me selfish, but I'm hoping this figure doesn't look very good so that I don't feel bad not pre-ordering it. :-[

12" Sideshow Luke Exclusive (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Sideshow-Luke-Skywalker-12-in-Exclusive-1250_W0QQitemZ6043744113QQcategoryZ2474QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Yikes, $100 for a blaster...
-
Well mine was delivered today by Fedex. Absolutely one of the best 12" Star Wars figures I have seen (in person anyway). Love the detail! No regrets about getting into this line ;D.
-
God, that went for $162. That sort of secondary market should help reduce the amount of scalpers and speculators preventing fans from getting orders in as the line continues. ::)
-
I got my Luke in the mail and i have to say i am very happy with it. The facial expression still isnt my favorite, but it is still a great item. I can't wait for the rest to ship, I want them all now. ;D
-
It's great to hear you're happy with Luke, because the facial sculpts seem to get better into the next figures. So you're bound to be even happier with the next ones.
-
Mine shipped, but I might not keep him. If there's anyone interested in the exclusive version at cost, let me know - though I may want to take pictures of the figure for JD before passing it on.
Jared

I'm still interested Jared. I'll shoot you a PM.
-
If anyone else is looking to get rid of their 12" Exclusive Luke, let me know, I would be happy to buy it from you.
Thanks,
Ed Solo
-
Nice shots you've got up at Yak for this guy, Jayson!
-
Thanks... I'm particularly proud of the nudes :D
-
Totally HOT. ;)
-
So Jay likes to take nudes, eh? I hope Sideshow releases a Padme or Leia soon... ;)
-
If they do... I hope Anakin comes with an interchangeable "shocker" hand ;D
-

HAHAHAHAHA! Nice! ;D
-
LMAO! :D
I think the Luke is astounding. Without a doubt the best likeness of him I own.
-
I just can't get over his eyes - they seem to be staring off into the distance. This is based on what I've seen online, so perhaps he looks better in person.
-
He does have the deer in the headlights look in the photo and in person.
-
I'm also glad that Sideshow got Luke's height correct. This line is gonna kick some major afterburner. They will look so cool all standing together.
-
Found this at a local collector shop today. I am very impressed by the presentation. So much so that I'm hesitant about opening it.
-
Yeah, I too saw one at my local comic shop. It was $60, and it took much self-control to not buy it.
I'd be ashamed to open such a nice thing, though. Somebody put a lot of work into that, and it'd almost feel criminal to open it (and this is from a guy who opens nearly everything.)
-
$60 is a pretty good price.
I got mine from Dark Shadow comics and I absolutely love it. You have to open it because it is too nice to keep boxed.
Plus, he is real easy to put back in - no wire tires!!
-
I got suckered by this website (http://www.thingsyouneverknew.com/website/store/product_detail.asp?UID=2006041512512200&item%5Fno=81434&keyword=luke+skywalker&cat%5Fkeyword=&search%5Fpage%5Fno=1) which claims to have the "Exclusive" version in stock. I ordered one last week, thinking I had gotten a steal at $70... but when it showed up, it was the regular version. Not that I'm too shocked by it. But now I'm just pissed off about it. $70 + $10 shipping for the exclusive version would have been a good deal, but for the regular version, it kinda sucks. I think I'm gonna return it.
-

I think I'm gonna go for it, if it's still there. I already put myself on the Wait Lists for Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Vader, so I might already be into this line and not even know it. ::) :)
-
Who online has the best price for the Luke?
-
Bought that Luke at my local comic shop today. Hopefully they get the rest of the line, since I missed the preorders on everything Sideshow has offered thus far.
-
What do you think of it Ben?
-
Pretty much just this: :o
I'm hooked on this line now. I doubt they'll do stuff like armored characters, but if they continue to do humans and aliens, I'll buy what I can.
It makes me wonder if Hasbro could have done this type of work at a higher price point like the Ultimate Jango Fett. But I'm glad the ball isn't in Hasbro's court anymore and that the 12" line is in the hands of those who want to make it into the art form it deserves to be.
-
I knew you'd like it! :D And like I said before, he's real easy to put in/out of his packaging for those who have limited space and like to rotate things.
I gave all my old 12" Hasbro versions to my three year old - the Sideshows will be for me.
God I hope they hit Darth Vader, Boba and Storm/Clonetroopers.
-
Yeah, I am thinking about selling some Hasbro 12 inchers off just to fund a couple of these SS ones. I know Vader, Maul, and the Emperor will be too hard for me to resist. Among others of course.
-
I just got one off ebay for $74 shipped. With shipping, that seems to be around the going rate right now. I was bidding around $60-$64 on each auction I saw and got outbid on each one until acquiring this one. I'm excited to get it.
-
Just wanted to give props to Jared on the excellent photos for the database. Can't wait to get this figure from him.

Those photo's are incredible. Number 25 and 43 are two of my favorites and the close-up's of his had are awesome. Hear that??? That's the sound of me kicking myself for not getting this one.... :'( :'( :'(

Just received this yesterday from Jared and finally got a chance to open it and play with it a little. Absolutely blown away by the presentation, quality and overall coolness. I was a little late to the Sideshow party, but I'm glad I got on board with this line.
Now bring on Anakin.

Finally got around to opening my Luke up. Here are some crappy pics:

Another one I just picked up off of eBay. Even after all of these years, this is one of the best figures Sideshow has done. I love being able to change the attire around - a lot of value in that. I know a lot of people don't feel too sure about the sculpt, but I like it - it's the paint that could have been better.
