Special Action Figure set of Lukes - all of these seem relevant for reasons.
- Jabba's Palace Luke (for your Skiff, Barge, or Adventure Set playset needs)
- X-Wing Pilot Luke (in case of TVC X-Wing re-issue perhaps?)
- Stormtrooper Luke (to go with that new Target exclusive Stormtrooper Han... and something else? :-X)

I'm digging that Jedi Knight Luke... looks like a tidy modern version of the vintage one.
-
Are you saying we might get a trash compactor playset, Jeff? Or hoping? Or can’t say?
-
Ugh... exclusive. FML.
-
Honestly, even though we have gotten versions of these before, this may have been what I was most excited to see from the Hasbro stuff so far. Bummed it is a SDCC exclusive though, so it may be impossible to get. Hopefully they will see individual release down the road.
-
A close look of these in person and Jedi Luke seems just off. I think it’s his nose, might be a little too long. Still want it though :D
-
Really hoping these are single-packed later. That a Jedi Luke would be amazing on the old Jabba’s Palace card.
-

We already have the one that came with the Death Star playset! :D

I positively LOVED the Saga Trash Compactor screen scene that came out around 2002 / 2003. But even something like that could use an update. Especially in light of the Jabba's Palace playset they recently announced.
As for the Luke Skywalker Jedi Destiny 3-pack? It's pretty cool. I like the Stormtrooper disguise and Jedi Knight versions. The one head scratcher is the X-wing pilot version. If the 3-pack is supposed to be a progression of Luke through the OT that isn't even representative of Luke from TESB.
-
Were is Dagobah Luke?
-
WHY?
Why can't we get a proper colored Luke Jedi cape? ???
Set look great, though. Glad we're finally getting an accurate Luke Stormtooper.
-

And here I thought that was a good point. To me it seems more representative of Luke when he went to Jabba's palace than the TVC deleted scene Luke we got. Even though Luke dressed almost entirely in black in ROTJ, the cloak he wore going into Jabba's palace was like a grey/brown.

Anyone know if this will be available online after SDCC? I think they did something similar with last year's set, right?
-
It has better be or this one has $300 written all over it.

Anyone know if this will be available online after SDCC?
Press Release from Celebration (https://jedidefender.com/modx/index.php?id=2942):
"Limited quantities of this item may be available at other select conventions in North America, South America, Australia, and Europe and online at HasbroPulse.com following the conventions. This item will also be available at select retailers in Asia."
Don't expect it to last long on HasbroPulse based on other recent exclusive sales though...
-
'It may be available all over the world' sure makes it sound like they're going to make a lot of them.
-
Don't expect it to last long on HasbroPulse based on other recent exclusive sales though...
The last 3.75" 3-pack convention exclusive was Doctor Aphra and her Droids and that featured a new sculpt, a new Build-a-Droid Astromech, and a black C-3PO repaint - the latter two, according to Hasbro will never be re-released - and that set was EASY to get on Hasbro Toy Shop.
While I get it that Aphra was released on a Vintage cardback a little bit afterwards, I find it hard to believe that this Luke 3-pack of resculpts will be in any more demand than the Aphra set was. I know it's Luke, and I know it's OT, but a new character is a new character and I'll take a new character any day over another rendition of Luke in his X-Wing Pilot gear - and if Hasbro is going to give that to me, then I want it on a numbered The Vintage Collection cardback - I don't want it in this three-pack format. I'm honestly surprised they packaged this set this way instead of like how they're doing those skiff guards. If the Lukes were individually carded The Vintage Collection figures in a single package like the Skiff Guards, then yeah, I agree with you 100%.
The set itself is strange anyway, why isn't it three versions of Luke from ANH? Like Tatooine, Stormtrooper & X-Wing Pilot or a version of Luke from each OT movie? Why is it two versions of Luke from ANH and one from ROTJ? Or did someone at Hasbro think that that X-Wing Pilot Luke was "close enough" for him in ESB?

I'm hoping it's Hasbro rebooting the Evolutions sets.

If only! I'd love to see a Han Solo evolutions set, and make it go from Solo through to TFA.

Is the price for this $39.99?

STAR WARS THE VINTAGE COLLECTION
3.75" LUKE SKYWALKER JEDI DESTINY Figure Set
(Ages 4 & up/Approx. Retail Price: $49.99/Available at Booth #3329 at Comic-Con International in San Diego)
Seems odd to charge $50 for this when the skiff guards 3-pack of carded figures is $10 less, but I guess that's the difference between a 3-pack with two repacks in it and a three pack with new figures?
-
Ugh that will likely make this a pass.
-
$50? Wow. That's some serious sticker shock. Granted, it's the same price as the Dr. Aphra 3-pack that was offered last year. And the upcoming Skiff Guard set is priced at $39.99.
But I was doing some checking, and the 3-packs that were offered during the first run of The Vintage Collection were $19.99 each. Now almost all of those sets had some repacks, and new figures were somewhat few and far between in those sets. This price explosion is bordering on gouging.
-
I will stay away from this set. At that kind of price and the supposed level of exclusivity, this is another set that I would feel guilty about ripping open. I sold off the figures out of the Jabba's Palace playset for the same reason--I have no use for packaged figures, and that is the only thing about these exclusives that make them exclusive.
I will check these Lukes out again as they are released in the Vintage Collection proper down the road...and if the paint apps work out that time, I may buy them.
-
I can't see them not releasing these Lukes on single cards, but I'll probably just wait to see how much FOMO I feel on Sept 10th.
-
I don't love the $50 price, but I'm not shocked at it either. The SDCC stuff has steadily been moving up in price and still sells out instantly, so why wouldn't they jack the price up? Economics 101.

Pictures from Preview Night are up now at ToyArk! Including this set!

Got this set at SDCC!
(cost at the booth was actually $54 plus tax!)

Awesome!!! Can you post a couple pictures of Jedi Luke? And is Luke Stormtrooper shorter than Han?

Jedi Luke is still in the bubble, as I'm not sure if I'm going to keep him or not.
Luke is definitely shorter than Han, but not as much as Hamill is shorter than Ford. Also, the Han figure has a wider stance, making the height difference very slight when posed next to each other.

Ah, screw it. Here he is!

Thanks for sharing the Jedi Luke pic. I am not sure what to think of it - it looks ok just doesn’t match Luke in ROTJ to me. But as a collector of all things JL, I’ll have to get my hands on one at some point.

It's a great looking figure, but it just doesn't look all that much like Hamill.
I still prefer the "lightsaber construction" figure, as it has more personality.
-
Thanks for the pics! I'm definitely going to hunt that figure down. If you get sick of it, let me know!

The Hasbro PR team was kind enough to send me the three Hasbro Pulse SDCC 2019 exclusives. Lucked out and got a really nice set of Luke figures with really nice face deco. No crossed eyes or drooly faces for me. Really nice set. I wasn't exactly hounding Hasbro for yet another X-Wing, Stormtrooper, or Jedi Luke figure but they turned out really nice.

They are really fantastic figures... it seemed to me nobody asked Hasbro if these were destined for single releases either. I wish they were as I’d gladly rebuy them.
-
I hate the leg stance / gap on that Stormtrooper Luke, other than that I'd agree.

It wouldn't shock me to see them released separately.

Just saw the Hasbro Pulse email. Is there a specific time these are going on sale tomorrow?
-
I’m pondering a 2nd set.😬
-
Is there a specific time these are going on sale tomorrow?
Star Wars items are not on sale until September. No official word on time yet. This year they are making more of an effort to spread things out to try to reduce the traffic.
Pulse Premium Early Access Dates for SDCC stuff -
8/15 - My Little Pony
8/15 - Disney Princess
8/15 - Trolls
8/15 - Ugly Dolls
8/20 - Overwatch
8/27 - Power Rangers
8/29 - Marvel
9/03 - Transformers
9/09 - SDCC-box Black Series 6" Sith Trooper, 6" Kenner Fett, 3.75" Jedi Destiny Luke 3-Pack
(also, the Basic-box Black Series 6" Sith Trooper goes up for order on 9/04).
-
Any idea how quickly these sell out? Are they like the 30-45 second sell-out NECA exclusives?

Gotcha, thanks! I'm glad I wasn't furiously trying to reschedule meetings and order on my phone tomorrow.

For the most part they have been "blink and you miss it" fast sell-outs for the 3.75" and then the 6" stuff seems to vary by Character. The Kylo set a few years ago lingered, but recent stuff went fast. I imagine the Luke set and Fett will disappear QUICK.
The 6" Sith Trooper may last a bit longer simply because the cheaper basic box version is supposed to hit Pulse a few days prior so that may ease demand a bit, as well as the fact the figure will be released again in October.
-
Even though they are not taking pre-orders yet, Hasbro Pulse has posted the links for all the SDCC 2019 exclusives.
Here is the link for the Luke 3-Pack so you can prep for F5 mashing on 9/9 if you're a Pulse Premium member (9/10 if you're not) - Vintage Collection 3.75" Jedi Destiny Luke 3-Pack (https://hasbropulse.com/collections/exclusives/products/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-luke-skywalker-jedi-destiny-set)

Thanks. Do they usually put them up at a specific time?
-
Thanks. Do they usually put them up at a specific time?
No. And historically they've never hit the advertised date either. Although usually the date isn't quite as explicit.
Last year Jayson put together a list that showed how it varied widely from year to year.
-
Last year, I had no problem ordering the Aphra/0-0-0/Beetee 3-pack, the Chewie w/Porgs and Centerpiece TFA Rey vs. Kylo - I could have also easily ordered 6" black series item - I think it was Han w/Mynock if my memory serves.
I ended up with five of the Aphra sets - so I want to say that I was even able to go back and place a 2nd order - that's how long that 3-pack lingered.
I don't think Luke will linger as long, I am definitely hoping he will not be a "blink and you miss him" situation either.
I think the 6" Boba Fett will be the tough one.
-
This was the one convention exclusive I was able to get from Hasbro Pulse. I can't believe how fast the others sold out. And this was just with Hasbro Pulse Premium users ordering?!?!?!
-
Just ordered the Luke 3-pack. It's still available to Pulse members.
-
I just ordered one too. Surprised they are still available!
-
Wow still available as of 6:20pm ET - I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign. The Aphra set was easy to score as well, I ended up getting a total of five of those (for the droids) before it sold out. If I see my order from today ship, and it's still in stock at that point, I might grab a third Luke 3-pack.

That's kind of what I was wondering. With all the talk of the 3 3/4" line, 6" figures, and now 5" figures. I wonder if it says anything that both the 6" figures sold out in 2 minutes, and the Luke TVC set is still available. I had the Fett in my cart, but was gone before I could check out.

I don't know, honestly. While I do think there is a new "generation" of collectors that are into 6" figures, I also think it's because it's Fett and the nostalgia factor with the retro coloring as well which makes it pretty desirable. I'm not sure if retro-color Fett will have a general release later, but it would be nice... just change up the packaging some. As for the 3.75" set, there really isn't anything "new" in the Luke set. New likenesses and apps, sure, but we've already seen these figures done before so there's not that big of a wow factor compared to a "new color scheme" Fett on a vintage card. As for the Aphra set last year, perhaps there's not that many fans of the character's comics as people may think (I don't know, just speculating)???
-
I wonder if there are different production numbers between the sets.
-
In my opinion its the least interesting of the three exclusives. Its fairly expensive and you've already got versions of all of these, so I can see how only the more hardcore collectors are going for this set. I know I was on the fence about spending the cash on this one whereas the other two were easier choices.
-
The likenesses on these new versions of Luke are pretty amazing. I personally thought that the X-wing pilot version might have been gratuitous (did this figure really need to be done?), but I get the general theme of each figure - Rebel (Stormtrooper disguise), pilot (X-wing flightsuit) and Jedi (Jabba's palace outfit).

Yeah, I see some folks reading into the slower sell rate of the Luke set and coming back with "3.75 is dead" or whatever, but I think it's what Dave and others said. A $50 set of Luke figures that you probably already have some version of isn't going to be the same draw as new versions of popular Boba Fett or the all-new Sith Trooper, both of which cost less.
I personally thought that the X-wing pilot version might have been gratuitous (did this figure really need to be done?), but I get the general theme of each figure - Rebel (Stormtrooper disguise), pilot (X-wing flightsuit) and Jedi (Jabba's palace outfit).
There was logic to Hasbro's choices for this set - X-Wing Luke matches up to the soon-to-be-released TVC X-Wing this Fall; Jabba Palace Luke was picked because of the recent focus on ROTJ with the Jabba playset, Sail Barge, and Skiff; and the Stormtrooper Luke was designed as a companion to the recent TVC Stormtrooper Han, which would both be nice to have out in circulation for... um, reasons.
-
I think it says something to the narrative that TVC and OT is where it’s at though...
I love 3.75” so I’m happy with what we get as meager an offering as it is every year, but I think 6” is definitely taking off and it’s just a sign of the times. Don’t think TVC is dead and Hasbro sees $ there, but I don’t think it’s the gold mine the other side wants to make it out to be. I think it’s priced out of that territory now, to be honest. I feel like $9.99 it maybe would be but where it is now it’s more and more creeping into premium. That narrows down the audience for it further than it already was.
I love the 3-pack though and people are missing out if they’re skipping it. I wish we got more like this. 😕
-
Like this Luke 3pk a lot. Ordered 2 yesterday. Had one already thanks to Lance Quazar who got me a set at SDCC.
-

I get where you're coming from on the Pilot Luke, Jeff. But the fact that Hasbro also slotted a single carded X-wing pilot Luke into the first TROS wave of The Vintage Collection makes that figure available there, too. That redundancy is a picking point, albeit a minor one.
Given the progress we've seen in these new Luke head sculpts and paint apps? I would like to see Hasbro finally get Bespin duel Luke Skywalker right. And while I know that figure has been covered in both the VTAC and TVC lines, there's one way they could differentiate this figure from previous releases: go with this vintage cardback imagery (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/vintage/ESB_Luke_Bespin.jpg). But if they had done Bespin Luke in the 3-pack? That wouldn't be as much of a thing...
But back to the 3-pack? I got a shipping notification that mine should be arriving tomorrow.
-
I'd like another Bespin Luke and have him come with a removable hand and the tourniquet accessory.
I kind of need that for my Falcon display.
-
We really need two Bespin Lukes:
1. "I'm not afraid and I'm ready to take on the whole Empire myself" clean Luke
2. "Holy **** Vader just ****** me the hell up physically and mentally please save me" damaged Luke
-
Yeah you really can’t have a Luke for All Seasons for Bespin.
-
So this thing is still in stock huh? I didn't see that one coming...
