Found this (http://www.potf2.com/potj/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15414) over at POTF2.com. Nice to see it coming, but as an exclusive? Oh, well. I want a couple for sure.
-
Yeah, I was glad to hear he will finally see the light of day. Looks like a good sculpt.
Little bummed that he is a TRU exclusive because I strongly suspect the TRU's in VA do not order these things anymore for some inexplicable reason. We have never gotten the STAP or Speeder Bike Deluxe Vehicle Fig sets and those have been out for WEEKS.
I'm planning several trips in the coming weeks to WVA, NC, and PA to try and hunt these bastards down, since we obviously won't be getting them here.
-
Kind of an odd exclusive IMO.
-
Not a big fan of exclusives, but TRU has handled theirs very well. If this is only $10 or free witha $25 purchase, I'm all for it.
-

Not really when you look at the recent Joe TRU exclusives. (Bench Press, Snow Serpent, snow Doc and Snow Shipwreck)
I wish I was excited about this but I do not collect them. However this can be a great way to get the previously known as the 2010 comic pack figures that got canceled (Darth Nihil, Deliala Blue etc).
-
Joe is a different ballgame though - this is Star Wars we're talking about. Nikto is not a Jedi/Sith/Clone so it just seems like an odd choice to me considering past store exclusive releases.
-
I kind of thought that, too. He's not much of an incentive as an exclusive, unless you get him with purchase, at which point you may not really care.
-
I agree, this is a rather odd choice for an exclusive when it comes to the Star Wars line, but I'd take this any day over another Clone repaint.
I'm sure this figure will be offered in the same way that Holo Grievous and Commander Ponds were - free with a $25 - $30 purchase or $10 straight up.
I'm sure Hasbro sold TRU on the fact that (a) it was a unique sculpt i.e. a NEW figure; and (b) that collectors would be interested since it was originally promised as part of that Jabba battlepack.
-
Wow. I really wanted this figure when I first saw images of it. Actually, I think it's a decent idea as an exclusive, because, unlike Ponds or Grevious, I might actually buy 2 or 3.

I really like this guy too - not sure why everyone is so down on him. He is a trooper figure instead of a character - I would much rather have this than the silve R2, Holo Yoda, Holo Emperor, Holo Grievous, etc. that have come out previously IMHO.
-
Looks like one of the better CW figures to me, I'd like to get a few. Love the removable helmet too.

I like the figure as well - I think the gripe is the figure selection for the exclusive as this amounts to a "redshirt" character for a premium price - not quite as palatable as a more recognizable character. In a perfect world, I think the exclusive should have been a Death Watch Warrior. As it stands, I think they'll have another pegwarming Ponds on their shelves.
-
Has it been confirmed that he's at a premium price? The GI JOE exclusive figures at TRU aren't priced differently than the regular Joes...
-
I don't recall a SW exclusive figure to retail for anything below $9.99.
-
I don't recall a SW exclusive figure to retail for anything below $9.99.
Yeah, this is the kicker... And from a perspective of possibly wanting a couple, that's some possibly ugly buying in the future if these roll out at the $9.99 like Holo Yoda, or Ponds were.
-
I would hope that Nikto follows the grid for TRU Joe exclusives, but that's not going to happen - would be nice though. :-\

Okay, but when was the last TRU SW exclusive that didn't have an offer of free with $25 purchase at some point during the promotion? I'm not a fan of exclusives in general, but I think TRU has had the best prices/offers out of all of them. And even at $9.99 you'd only be paying a few bucks more than Target prices on basic figures ($8.24 at my local stores).
-
I'm not sure as I haven't bought an exclusive at all at TRU in ages... Still, what if there's nothing you want? That makes it even worse really. :)
It's a long drought on new things for some time it seems... at least as Legacy goes.
I'm not even really interested in the figure myself, I'm speaking clearly from the perspective of someone who thinks, "boy it'd be nice to have 2 or 3 of those" for a Jabba or something.
-
I think the deal on Ponds was $9.99 every day and for a week or two you could also just get him free with $25 Star Wars purchase. Like I said, the $10 isn't bad at all for an exclusive, but the free is a super deal. If you were going to pay the $10, you're now getting $25 worth of other stuff for 40% off. Or, with their $7 basic fig pricing you could buy up their basic figs and return them to another retailer to get even more money back.
-
Still, what if there's nothing you want? That makes it even worse really. :)
It's a long drought on new things for some time it seems... at least as Legacy goes.
This was the exact problem I had with the Ponds release. The timing was horrible. They had already released all their other exclusives and other new stuff before Ponds ever hit the shelves, so there was never anything I needed to get him free. I had to pay full retail price as a penalty for not waiting around to buy the other stuff.

Okay, so at full retail you paid $10 for him. If it were a Target exclusive you would have paid $13 and online it would have been $15 + $8 shipping. Take the amount you "saved" by getting it at TRU and apply that to the $25 deal where you get the item for free. If you factor that you "saved" $13 by getting this free at TRU instead of having to buy it at Target, then apply those savings to the $25 worth of stuff you say you don't need. Is there anything at TRU that you would buy if you had a coupon for $13 off? I'd pick up a spare battle pack or exclusive vehicle or even stuff you already have and can return elsewhere.
-
I don't see the $10 as too outrageous for an exclusive and I don't think you can blame TRU for not having stuff you want to buy at that particular time.
-
For what it's worth, I think this is a much more desirable figure than Ponds... how many Nikto figures do we have in the CW line versus clones?
-
I don't know, I don't consider $9.99 figures a plus I guess... Exclusive or not. $7.99's not even pallatable most days. So I can't say I look at $9.99 as a value. And as far as blaming TRU for not having stuff, that's to each their own... It's like KM running a BOGO sale and not having anything in stock worth buying (which they've done in the past, though they've also done the opposite and had stuff nobody else did in stock as well).
My main point was, like CHEWIE just said, it's a desirable figure... Not just one, but a couple. So $9.99 kind of stinks, and buying $25 of things you may not want that badly to get it "free", equally stinks.
I'm more curious to see what the now exclusive last wave of EU Legacy figures chime in at.
-
But not having anything in stock for BOGO isn't the same as not having the newest releases arriving right at the same time as your free exclusive.
-
I'm more curious to see what the now exclusive last wave of EU Legacy figures chime in at.
I asked about that very thing for the next round of QnAs, so hopefully we'll get a clear answer versus the "we don't set retail prices" answer. :P
-
I haven't said anything about them having to have new releases in though... KM just happened to. What I'm saying is having anything you find desirable or want, to get a free figure. If you're buying things you don't want to get a free figure, you're not getting a free figure. You're buying a $25 vehicle or whatnot to get the $10 figure, but you still are buying something you don't want really.
And if you're buying a $10 figure, that has its own downside obviously.
Of course TRU's usually pretty easy to find something (for me anyway) that having a second of wouldn't bother me, like a Droid Fighter or something, but for others they're buying a $10 figure... That's usually sucky to people, but that's the way the exclusives go unless the Nikto guard is out when all the new blue packaged stuff comes out for Clone Wars, which is entirely possible. Then it becomes more a race for the figure than anything.
-
So, hypothetically of course, can you buy 3 Niktos and get a free Nikto during the promotion? That's 30 bucks for four figures. Nope, I guess that still doesn't sound like a deal.
-
That's $7+ per figure... if you wanted 4 Nikto's, I guess that's fair. Not sure if TRU allows that or not? I'm guessing first week of the promo, probably not. I haven't gotten a promo figure there in ages.
-
Very lame that its an exclusive. It should be made widely available since it was originally meant to be distributed to all retail outlets.
-
I don't know, I don't consider $9.99 figures a plus I guess... Exclusive or not.
I don't think any of us wants to pay more for a figure, but it's very rare to get an Exclusive for the same price as non-exclusives. I'd rather keep my $2-3 and have it part of the basic line, but I'm just saying it could be a lot worse than $10 or free with $25 purchase. Lesser of many evils I guess.
-
Funny how at the SDCC slideshow presentation the Hasbro reps didn't have too much to say about this figure.
"Uh, and this is the TRU Exclusive Nikto Guard... with, uh, removable hood."
"Oh, yeah, he was originally meant to be included in the Jabba's Palace BP!"
I don't blame them. Look at this figure! What is there to be said about it?!
-
Did Hasbro have much to say about anything? This has to be the weakest convention from an info perspective in quite a while. Understanding they are holding back for CV, but usually Hasbro has some color commentary for their presentations that involves some more than what we got.
-
From the Hasbro Customer Relations Manual:
"When asked a question regarding upcoming product by consumers, Hasbro staff should respond as follows:
-If the question is asked between March and July of the year, your response should be, "We will be revealing more at ComicCon in July."
-If the question is asked between August and February of the year, your response should be, "We will be revealing more at Toy Fair in February."
-If a secondary convention (such as a con dedicated to a particular property, such as BotCon, JoeCon, SW Celebration, or My Little Pony Horse Fetish Ball-O-Rama) takes place in the interim between ComicCon and Toy Fair, your response can be "We wanted to save something to reveal at (insert convention name here), so you'll have to stay tuned until then!"
-If anyone asks any question regarding Tonnika Sisters, piss-poor case assortments across all lines, Human Alliance Mudflap, the nonexistence of anyone not wearing a suit of armor in the Marvel Universe line on the pegs, and/or extended, nonsensical six-month long droughts in new product, you are hereby authorized to shout, "Look, it's Jesus!", throw a smoke grenade, and jump out any open window to avoid unruly fanboys."
:)

This is up now on TRU.com, albeit under the wrong description:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4020327
Yep, not a Transformer, guys. Price point and item # are hopefully accurate though.
-
Nice find - so I guess now we have two TRU Item numbers to have them check.
From McMetal's link.....
Item #: 492490
UPC: 653569517498

Stopped by my local TRU this morning and they had a peg and sticker designated for this dude, but none in stock yet. $10.99! :o
Figure he will be arriving next week for the new planogram reset, but since my TRU gets their truck on Tuesdays, I am hoping to see him before the 9/23 changeover.
-
Both local TRU's had the new front TCW display, but neither had the new Nikto Guard. >:(
I do see he is In Stock now on the website. I'm kind of debating it, the shipping would not be free unless I ordered something else and they don't even have Wave 3 up yet.
Hoping he shows up next week at least.
-
Hoping for a "Buy ______ get Nikto guard free" sale like they did with Ponds. Then again, I didn't get Ponds when that had that sale (and despite his price tag, all his figures eventually vanished...weird).

same for me all around.
I didn't get the Ponds figure just for the fact that I have enough clones. Throwing this guy in a similar deal might be enough for me to take the bait.
-
I'd love that as well, but I'd also love a free Kul Teska figure too. Odd that they haven't run any kind of promo for that dude yet. He is pegwarming big time around here. I love him but would prefer to wait for the price to dip before buying another for openers.

buy a couple other things you are intending to buy and use a $5 off coupon before it expires - thats what I did. Same for goes for the nikto if you want him that bad. Heck, if they are both in stock you can buy one of each exclusive and use a coupon. then it would be like getting both for $21 ;D
-
Personally. I love this figure. My favorite types of figures are Aliens, and Tatooine aliens always welcome. And, it seems the the CW line doesn't really want to make background figs, so this guy is most welcome. In fact, I think I'll get two and use my Clone Cash for 5 off, so he'll be a bit cheaper.
Oh, and I saw som Kul Teskas the other day for 17.99!!
-
Found this toay here in KC. Not a bad figure, but shoulda been in the Jabba BP
-
I did not find this at TRU today, but I did find something interesting when I asked about them. Someone at the service desk was able to find them on TRU.com and said that if I paid in the store, I could get free shipping direct to my house. So, for $23, I now have two of them in transit and can avoid repeated trips to TRU over the next few weeks. 8)
-
That's cool, I did not know they would do that. Seems like a service they should promote a little more.
I'm still leery of their shipping though...I ordered some stuff from them back in late July and it arrived pretty well beaten up. I had to exchange most of the stuff in the order actually. Apparently they have no knowledge of "bubble wrap" and everything just smashes up together inside the box.
I'm content to wait another week or two and grab this in the store, but then again I live like a mile away so it's no hassle.
-
Aw yeah, snagged my Nikto Guard today, courtest of the neighborhood TRU. Looked like they had about 5-6 on the pegs at least.
I found it interesting the cards all had a reinforced J-hook. Wish all the figs featured that, but I guess that's the kind of premium packaging you can only get for $10.99. ::)
He DOES have a tiny head too. Must look better with the cowl.
-
Yakface says that this might be part of a promo - free with a purchase of $30 or more.
-
That's what a local friend told me yesterday...
Here's all I know... I was at a local TRU yesterday, and they had 23 of these guys on the pegs. I didn't buy any, but called him and he went up there.
He gets there, and grabs one and then walks around the aisle. Two employees then go to the pegs and remove all but two of the Niktos. They say they are pulling them for next week's promotion (spend $30, get the figure free).
He's very reliable, I have no reason whatsoever to doubt that's what he heard. So, I'd expect on Sunday for them to ring up that way?
-
Hmmm...I'm going to hold onto my reciept and not open my second one. I bought two tonight, 12.99 in NY area! Anyway, he's one of my favorite figures from the CW line. I really like his design, he comes with the hood, two guns, and that odd holster pouch. Too expensive, but I'd rather have the option to buy oddball background charcaters at higher prices, that to not have that choice at all.
-
Picked up a pair of these this morning. Good enough figure. If I get more it will be during the $30/free figure promotion next week.
Not much else that I need right now except the new battle packs and so far my TRU hasn't gotten them in, so that would be a great way to pick up a couple more - grab a battlepack, an army builder and get the Nikto for free, rinse and repeat.
-
Received a Nikto Guard in the mail from TRU.com today. They actually still think it acceptable to send a carded figures through the mail in a bubble envelope. ::)
-
Picked up my free Nikto tonight (since I purchased the vinty AT-AT last week) Kind of a lame figure and one that I would have passed on if I would have had to pay for him. Did Hasbro ever explain why we're paying $5 more for battle packs and getting less product? That change never made sense to me.... :-\

Heh, I'll agree with this post completely. I'd likely not have bought this figure, but since it was free....
And spot on about the battle packs.
-
Does anyone know if the UPC from this guy would be acceptable for the mailaway promotions? I assume so, but wasn't sure since it is an exclusive.
