Title: Finally......The End
Post by: Jim on November 22, 2005, 09:31 AM
Okay, so who has completed the ROTS run and who is as happy as myself that this series is over.  I found it fun in the beginning but the series got old for me. I think this may of been the biggest series for a movie in one style packaging.  Unless you count the first SAGA series which included all movies combined ???

Man, I've been done for a while and quite pleased about it too. I was just saying (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=9820.msg180180#msg180180) that I've been glad to be done with the endless hunting, but now I hear about updated Gree and Bly repaints. >:( Bah! Now I have to go looking for another stinking Bly because he's supposed to be more movie accurate. Gree doesn't sound like there's much difference, so I might pass. But, once again, it seems I have at least one more ROTS fig to find....

I too was collecting the variants but I dropped doing so about a month ago and got rid of all mine.  Too much a pain in the a$$.  Running changes fine, variants ehh.

Sometimes I think Hasbro reads all these sites and sees the desire for people to collect variants and its all part of the marketing plan to suck people dry.  Think about it.  What kid who likes SW gives a crap about some of these minor changes ???

There has really been a lot of great stuff this year, and just a whole lotta stuff overall.  Too much actually, at least for me.  I'm looking forward to being caught up, but I'm not quite there yet.  Aside from the "twins" packs from WM that should be coming up, I need to find 3 more ROTS figures (all from the final 5 - 501st, R4, Wookiee Gunner).  I kind of look forward to getting those last few as well, just to feel "done" with the ROTS line for the most part.  After that, just bring on the twin packs and then onto The Saga Collection.  It has been a great year for collectors with all the product out there, and some real nice figures, but it has been a bit overwhelming at times to try and keep up.

I'm done! I have a complete carded/boxed collection and all my army builders.

Personally I liked this line quite a bit and am sort of sad to see it go.  Not that I think there are tons more ROTS figurses left unmade or anything like that.  I just really enjoyed it.  The last hurrah and all that.  I just liked the assortment of nice Jedis, Clonetroopers, Wookies.  However, I am ready for the OT stuff.

It's been interesting and much to my surprise, the entire first 56 made it to Canada.  Pretty cool as I wasn't expecting it.  Naturally though we got the shaft on the last 12 figures (thanks Jeff) which is consistent with Hasbro in Canada - there has not been a single line where the entire series has shown up in the great white north (flashback cards maybe).

I didn't mind the changes so much, the shock trooper and 501st were great additions.  Even the #33 changes were interesting though I thought they went overboard with the black pilot.

I personally can't be bothered with all the variations, we don't have enough flow of material up here to see it all.  For perspective of my American friends the shock trooper was like the release for the VOTC stormtrooper - if you were out the week they showed up at retail it was positively heavenly.  If you missed that one single week they were around you were screwed.  For VOTC they were available at retail for a period of only 4 days and I drove all over the city managing to gather up 19 VOTC stormtroopers.  They never showed up again.  Same deal for the shock trooper.  I scored 17 total from about a dozen stores and haven't seen them since.  Blech.

My biggest gripe with this series though is and will remain the packaging.  I'm an opener but I try to help out the carded guys and a couple of guys outside of Canada.  I see these cards as a nightmare from the start and only getting worse.
- the small, easily bendable side edges - mint is nearly non-existent, even when pulled fresh from a case
- the tape on the back is inconsistently and carelessly applied giving a crappy, uneven look to the back and bottom of the package
- that same tape is going to yellow with time - it might be 5-10-15 years down the road, but it's going to look like ****

I suppose Hasbro really does believe these are for the kids, since that card was clearly not thought up from a collector viewpoint.  I think it looks nice enough, but have fun keeping it nice in the long run.

I've just got a few more ROTS figures to go from the Final 12 and then I'm done this line (thanks Jeff and Matt).

It was a great line for the most part - great sculpts, improved articulation - but I certainly won't be sad if we never see action features again.

I'm done except for the twins, and then some extras that I want like I picked up 5 more SA 41's for customs etc.
I have to agree with packaging comments. I open also so I know in the long run it won't bother me, but for friends who collect on card, I feel sorry because I think these are going to be very difficult to keep in mint condition.
Overall I have enjoyed this line, new figures, some with great likeness and articulation (Obi Wan Pilot). Have to agree though, NO MORE action features please! Guess I need to break down and buy my Mas Ameddas to close it out though. I have just had a hard time buying that figure!

I agree that the packaging sucks on these.  Glad that part is over. My couple of complaints regarding the figs include the action features.  I did not like any of them.  Both Yoda's blew IMO.  The Obi-Wan Pilot was great and the Anakin Evolution was excellent, although it would of been nice to have this as a basic fig in the collection.  And once again Mace fails >:(  Another thing that bugged me was the final 5 figs.  Most of these should of been running changes from the first 56.    Either that or the Green Cmmdr, Shocktrooper, Black Pilot, Guards and the first Wookie variation should of had seperate numbers.  It just makes the numbering system for these figs out of place.

Regarding the Seperation of the Twins and the StarWarsShop Clone, I still am not sure whether I would include either into the ROTS series due to such a difference in the cardbacks.   Not sure where the C3 Vader falls in either.  Where as the other exclusives shared identical cardbacks.

I've got them all... but keep buying more army builders here and there and a few for customs and diorama filler.  Just can't get enough of this line; to me it's the best line they've ever done.  Nothing else comes close.

 :P

I've only seen ONE of the final 12 figures so far, and that's the Nemoidian Commander. I know they're shipping here, I just keep missing them. Then I'm sidetracked because I find the newest exclusive and/or Evolutions set and have to wait a few weeks to get the cash flow back up.

Sigh.

There are so many good figures and so many customizing options.  I just got another AT-RT driver so I can paint it all white like some of the newest customs I've seen.  I'll still get more #41 clones too.  They are just that good.  ;)  Definitely the best line ever!

Besides, "variations" get me especially when they are good running changes like the Shocktrooper on the #6 body, the "new" Bly with the dark stripe on his helmet (much more movie accurate).  I have 2 Blys and 1 Custom Bly and I'll still get this new version.  They are just that good...Do I keep saying that?  Yep, they are just that good!  Lucas really hit me in the pocket book when he decided to make "proto-stormtroopers" with different colors!  If he had stuck with the plain white all the way through it would be a much different story...

I still don't have the Tact. Ops Trooper, the Holo Figures, and the Wookiee Gunner(s) I want.

Found R4 though so that's a start, but man I need those others...  This is frustrating.  Barely anything is showing up at retail thanks to the massive glut of Darth Vader figures every Wal-Mart store has...  Short of the Neimoidian situation, Vader's really just an anchor on the pegs and has been so since Hasbro decided HE would be better to ship in solid cases than a case of all the various Clones and their variants.

Nice move guys, real smooth...

I'm far from finished...I've only seen signs of the last 12 once here in the NYC metro area.  I'm sure they will show, but it will be a while. Overall, I think that this was the best movie specific line ever.  The articulation and sculpts were good, the character selection interesting, and the price was right.

With the exception of the Covert Ops exclusive, I've been done with all the ones I want for almost a month now. All I'm buying at the moment are Clones for my small, but growing, army.

I picked up some 501st Clones, R4-P17 and the Wookie Gunner yesterday. Since I'm not interested in getting every figure in the ROTS line, I feel I'm now all caught up and done with the line. I think overall it was a good line, a nice variety of figures, some difficult to find but eventually they showed up which allowed for the hunt to continue but not be overly crazy. Onto the 2006 TSC line, which should be less hectic since it's going to have a lot of rehashs I will have no interest in.

I haven't seen the new grey Clone Evo sets yet, but that's really all I'm missing at this point.  I don't think the Twins count, since they're in TSC packaging, aren't they?

I do need one more R4-P17 though, and would like one more Shocktrooper and 501st too, since I only have two of each (never saw either of them at retail).  In fact, there's been a bunch of figures I haven't seen at retail, but Anthony and Jon have been helping me out quite a bit in keeping me up to speed on things, thank God.

The only thing Im missing is a Deluxe Green Vulture Droid. Then I'll be caught up.

This is another item that I've never seen at retail, so good luck with it Robb!  John (Spudtrooper) was able to snag me one from Frank and Sons for retail cost, so you may want to check with him, or scope that show out and see if you have any luck...

I still don't have the final 5, plus a number of pegwarmers I'm waiting to go on clearance (Mon Mothma, etc.) but beyond that, I'm pretty set.  I found the twins and Tarkin, who was the last real big headache for me, so I'm cool.

I'm pretty much caught up and done with the ROTS line I think, after this weekend.  I lucked out and found 1 Tact. Ops Trooper and a R4-P17 at Wal-Mart on "Black Friday".  I was there looking for the Twins sets (they didn't have them), but found remnants of the last five instead.  I was happy to find them.  I'd like to get at least one more of the Tact. Ops eventually, and I'd pick up the Wookiee Gunner if I saw it at retail.  Otherwise, I think I'm caught up at this point, aside from the Twins Sets, which would probably be more of a "Saga Collection" item due to the packaging.  Hope to find those soon though.  It has been a great year of collecting, even if it has been a little overwhelming.  I'm happy to be wrapping up the ROTS line, one of the better lines we've seen overall I think.  Definitely looking forward to some OT goodness in late 2005/2006 now though, and hoping the Saga Collection line will be a great one.

I am pretty much done.  I finally found an R4-P17 so that did it for me.

There was a lot to this line, but I will be both sad and relieved it's over!  Of course this was the hurrah.   So I think over all it was worth it.

Next year, I am only picking up a few things here and there.  Like the new Leia.

I too am finally "done" for the most part...  Black Friday caught me up basically.

I still need:

-Multiple Wookiee Heavy Gunners.  I only have the variation so I'm looking for my openers and extras.

-2nd Tact. Ops Trooper (I'd like 2 and consider more if I just lucked into finding a pile one day).

-Clone Evolution Sets (have the greys on order, but I'd buy extra of the 1st and 2nd sets if I saw them readily available at retail).

-Lava Anakin...  I didn't pick him up and now he's drying up around Pittsburgh so I'll likely have to track one down either via a local buddy or *gulp* online.  Anyone have an extra they wanna sell?  :P

-I didn't get many of the 4/2 release figures.  While not abundant at retail I'm 100% sure I will get them for less than retail on the secondary market.  These are the figures I'll see in bins loose at the local Toy Show probably next weekend for $2 - $3 a piece.  Save me some $ on figures I find subpar anyway.  Mustafar Duel Anakin/Obi-Wan for instance, etc.

And that's really it for me...

I'm gonna maybe fill out my Clone Pilots and AT-RT Drivers too over the holidays...  Neimoidians I have my eye on for a clearance here soon I hope as well, I think they make great trooper builders (both decoes).  I'd also take more #6 Shocktroopers and Black Pilots.  Most all of that stuff listed is my army building habit though, except Lava Anakin who I hate to say it but I'm kinda desperate for now.

I just got word I'm getting the twins for X-Mas. :)  Yay!  I was actually planning on looking for these next week when I started my X-Mas shopping.  Thankfully now I don't have to think about it at all.  Sucks knowing what you're getting for X-Mas though.
